That painting was such a beautiful and I’m sure therapeutic project for you to do. I may need to do one as I’m going through a divorce after 28 years and it ain’t easy. Anyhow I had never heard of this method but I think I would like it. When you described your mentality when it comes to all or nothing….that is totally me too. Anyway I just found your channel and subscribed. 😍

I do like the theory of "backwards declutter". Instead of deciding what to get rid of, choose what you DEFINITELY will keep. The things you adore. Then build around that. Knowing you're ALLOWED to keep your loved things relieves the stress of "TOSS IT ALL"!

...YES. ! As a Former Professional Organizer/ Assistant/ Housekeeper.... I did not ever tell my Clients " what they HAD to get rid of, this is a Personal Process , but it still had Guidlines. There were two boxes, ... DEFINITELY KEEPING and Give Away/ Donate. And a Trash bag. This simplifies it so whatever is going to the Donate / Give away can be processed after things are decided on. Same with the Definitely Keeping. People can become easily overwhelmed, as she stated ...so not putting " too much to do " at one time helps that process. I had not heard of this Book, so I'm interested, even though I'm mo longer in the Field of work...Life is an " always learning " proposition. 🙂😊✨️

Choosing what to keep is the Minimalist approach. It highlights the top 2, 5 or 10 things that matter most. Either by what you use often, or has positive emotional association. Not just aunt Susie gave me that, so I have to keep it. No, no you don't. Builds skills at boundaries, as well.

The painting. :( Why are people so cruel?????
You clearly are an amazing human being…
You opened your home to us as is.
    You were transparent.
    You were vulnerable.
You shared what worked for you in hopes of offering help to others.
You are a threat to the cruel ones - the ones who could never open their home or heart to others.
Thank you for the work you do. It matters. More than you will ever know.

My therapist and I are doing "just one thing". I'm recovering from illnesses and major surgery and other huge things, so doing just 1 thing a day, and then letting go, has helped. Some days I CAN do a few things, and some days just eating is the 1 thing. Progress is happening and I'm not dying from stress and fear!

Go Vegan! 50% of the kids are now because they want to live another generation with clean air, etc.. Give up meat , dairy and eggs from cruel animal factory farming. This is 90% of our pollution to our environment . Don’t drink almond milk. Many documentaries on this. Once they die, people are soon after. Go vegan for the animals, our environment and your health is just the bonus for considering other sentient beings. Also- adopt don’t buy. They are euthanizing perfect animals in your local shelter. Animals have 1-3 days before euthanasia due to people buying bred dogs and cats.

I love the FlyLady technique of setting a timer for 15 minutes in one room and doing as much as possible. If you have two messy rooms, go to the next one and set the timer for 15 minutes. Return to the first room, 15 more minutes, then take a 15 minute break and feel good about how much you just accomplished. I will take FOREVER if there's no timer. I also use this for doing things I don't want to do (paperwork) and challenge myself to do as much as I can as quickly as possible.
Also, I love your channel, you make great videos and have great ideas! You're awesome and very inspiring!

Looks so great! It's interesting to me that almost ALL "clutter clean up methods" I hear about ultimately come back to FLYLady methods for me... "Little Chunks" or as she recommends, 15 minutes per day decluttering... Then, once the clutter is gone... 15 minutes each day cleaning a specific room (or area)... It's how I get through it, too... Bit by bit! Whatever works... Let's keep tidying up and making LESS things that future generations will have to deal with or throw away! Thanks for the inspiration!

One little section at a time that I focus on till satisfaction. Then I can have a sense of accomplishment and then move on to another section of each room. And I'm getting my house together.

This looks like a good way to pick a spot to start in if the whole room is a mess and you don't know where to begin. I've been following Dana K White's 5 step decluttering process and it's been a heck of a game changer. It's a great way to declutter without creating a whole new mess to clean up later, which is great if you are easily distracted or often get interrupted by life. It's also great if you're not doing so well emotionally because steps one and two involve the least amount of emotions and therefore the least amount of executive function (trash, things that do not belong in the space they are in).

What a fun way to approach a project - I also do better when I work with 'just one area' ... and usually set a timer for 15-45 minutes, then take a break! If it's a big project, it can take more than a day - and that's OK too!
I love your roses as a visitation reminder of with - I teach Intentional painting, and we often do a 'word dump' as we begin - I love using Neocolor 2 watercolor crayons for that! And approaching healthy eating and actions with that same piece-at-a time attitude is great!
    - When she was in her 50s, my mom's doc suggested that she 'budget' for holidays and outings, as we do for special purchases: eat a little less the day before and after, rather than seeing having more one meal/ day as breaking her healthy eating plan!
She was on crutches from childhood polio, and knowing if she was too heavy, she'd need a wheel chair motivated her! (She didn't need one 'till she was 85, and getting unsteady on her feet!)

I was mortified seeing your beautiful workspace in disarray but then so very happy to see the chaos, as I stare at a pile of mail on my floor, purposely, so that I address it now, not later. 😉. 2) Happy to see your approach in improving your organization process. I’ve ordered the book via my library. 3) Let’s give ourselves a pass…LIFE happens, and the shot of chaos you showed us ONLY confirms LIFE in motion. You are a CEO of a thriving business…why would your workspace it always look perfect? Parallel example…we don’t look picture perfect while exercising, our kitchens don’t look perfect while making meals. Why would our workspace look perfect while working? 4). I have been cleaning/organizing like this for all of my adult life, doesn’t everyone, I mean unless you have go go gadget arms, all you can do is one spot at a time, and someone wrote a book about this lol shaking my head … Although, I’m happy for you, that it gave you the incentive that you needed.

It's hard to believe that some would make such nasty comments to you and for what purpose. This is a channel to help others get organized and decorating. I would say I'm shocked but unfortunately I know people can be cruel. We tend to remember the bad stuff rather than the compliments. I love your channel and watch every video. I especially love that you are a fellow Canadian. You are beautiful, articulate and create professional quality content. Thank you for your hard work to bring these to us. We appreciate you.

I did this the other day, the house was a mess and so I basically got all the really messy areas first. I started with my little recliner table, folded the living room blanket and put that in its spot, hopped to the smoking table near the door and cleaned that up, jumped to the dining table, and then cleaned the kitchen counters next, and in between all that made tiny adjustments to as I passed by them to things that were in their place but off centered. It was sort of a zig zag impulsive cleaning with no specific plan in place, but within 15-20 minutes the place looked much better.

Oh! Christina!!! This week’s video speaks to me … I’m the same … tendency of all or nothing … through the years without knowing it I adopted that method … at 60 I finally celebrate my small or bigger successes … I tackle projects in blocks … I turn around any negative comments coming from me or others by positive statements and most of all I list 5 things I’m grateful for each evening … thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and for being so truthful with your life challenges… not only do you benefit from what you learn but your kids will thank you for the « mama » role model you are for them, for us all! Cheers! 😊

Absolutely excellent video that pleasantly surprised me in different ways. Over the past few years I’ve been dealing with prescription opioid addiction, overcoming it, learning to how to live again with new found sobriety but also struggling to handle the emotional and physical disorganized disaster that addiction has caused. Can now very proudly say that I’ve been clean and sober for 5.5 years! but have never found a cleaning and organizing solution that worked for my family and myself. I sincerely believe that this method is what I’ve been unknowingly searching for as it matches the way my brain functions, quickly becomes overwhelmed so throws the towel in or just completely mentally fatigues to the point I don’t know where to start…so don’t. The wonderfully unexpected painting in this video has shown me a brilliant way to not only release personal negative thoughts and emotions but also those hurtful labels others have attached to me. An excellent way to literally turn all of the hurt and negativity into a beautiful piece of pride. Thank you so very much for sharing this. Am truly blessed!

I love the idea of doing a piece of artwork to help deal with bad things that people have said to/about you. I think it's really sad and speaks volumes as to how pathetic these people are. I was told something once that I believe, "HURT people, hurt people." And, even though I agree that it's true, I think it is pretty pathetic when they get on social media and start attacking you. I think the thing that amazes me the most about it is the fact that these people probably wouldn't have the courage to say these things to your face, but they feel perfectly safe doing it on a social platform. Labeling them as "Trolls" is more than appropriate in my opinion. What you're doing is very hard! Everyone only sees the highlight reel of your life or your projects. Behind the scenes, however, you are a wife, a mother, and a full-time content creator. That is more than exhausting! You are doing a great job! I enjoy watching your videos and hope to see many more! Keep both your chin and the good work up!

Thanks for explaining and illustrating this method and outlook. My library has this book and I will give it a go!
I am also a person who tends to be all or nothing and gets overwhelmed. I remind myself not to let perfect be the enemy of good, and that something done is better than perfect not done, but sometimes I need more than words. A practical technique like this sounds like a good way to put those words into action!

The reason why for the painting, how wonderful! Why people have a need to say disparaging remarks confound me. It is beautiful, Christina, just as you are. You give so much of yourself and deserve respect.
I think we were separated at birth! Your challenges with organizing and incorporating healthy goals and staying with them, is just like me (as with many others, I would imagine!) Jillian Michaels, fitness instructor, once said, (paraphrased) - if you had a flat tire, you would not flatten the other 3, nor stop driving. Which makes sense in not sabotaging ourselves to give up.
I wish you well on your health journey.
    Enjoy your day!

Yesss! That’s such a cool method! I think it gives me “permission” to do what I’m already good at: be all over the place! But with a little bit more control, one small section here then there, with blinders on to not get overwhelmed by the rest! SIDE NOTE: i accidentally found another one of my favorite ways to tidy a space: at night with the lights turned off, you can literally barely see the room, and you just keep grabbing “just one more thing real quick”… then when you go back the next day you get a surprise like someone else secretly tidied a big layer of the stuff for you 😆 it works! Hahaha
