- Replacing the transmission fluid and filter on my 2008 Ford Fusion 2.3 with the 5 speed Mazda transmission. This resolved the slight whine noise and shift solenoid code.
- Авто/Мото
Would have been useful to see the filter removal and install.
It is simple, pull the sensor off of the filter if equipped then just pull down on the filter, watch for the release of fluid, push the new filter in until it is fully seated and won’t go up any further making sure locations g pin goes in the right spot, reinstall the sensor if equipped, done.
Mazda FNR5 5 speed auto was standard on the 2.3. The V6 models used an Aisin TF-80, rock solid gearboxes, both of them.
3:45 Nice ! Same for me. 160k on my Camry and no metal shavings. I was quite impressed.
I just bought a 2008 with 106,000 miles. Feb 24. This is just what I needed. Thanks.
Nice video, excellent production.
What was yours doing and how much did you pay for it? I just paid 3200 for 08 with 105k
I always love how you document everything when working. It shows that you have pride in your work, as well as proof. Keep up the entertaining videos Daniel!
It would have helped if you would have shown how to remove or install the filter... properly fill trans fluid... or put on the gasket the correct way. The only thing u actually demonstrated was moving through gears.
The filter is a simple pull straight down type of unit
Your fusion sounds amazing
I've always wondered if the pan would clear the brace that's welded on the subframe. looks like it does.Did you have any small shift problems before dropping the fluid and changing the filter. My 1-2,2-3 is acting up, speedo fluctuates as well. So just wondered if this fixed the problem or should I change shift solenoids. Thanks
Can you please let me know what tool used to remove the bolts from the driver side, it is very difficult due to the frame. Thank you. I have P0766 code which says the D solenoid stuck on. I want to change it and I never change the filter or transmission fluid so I wanted to do all those. I contacted shop and they said around 500 for changing fluid, filter and solenoid. Thank you very much for your help.
Great video :). Do you have the transmission fluid temperature (what it should be at) for proper level check?
How many quarts of fluid does it need if I just pulled the drain plug and did not drop pan and replace filter? Need to know asap, and would great appreciate if you could help me out
Hey man changed the fluid in 2010 fusion when I check the level the dipstick gives me a half full reading when I insert it one direction and a full reading when I insert it another what do you recommend
My transmission container looks different underneath than what you showed. I have 08 fusion SE? Is yours a different model Fusion?
Have two of those lights. Love them.
Have you done this service on a Chevy Cobalt? 2.2L with 4T45E 4 speed auto? There's not dip
stick on mine.
I have a 2007 Mercury Milan Premier 2.3l. I couldn't get to 1-2 bolts on the transmission pan near the driver side wheel well. There are metal diagonal cross members in the way. Can't get a socket or closed end wrench on the 10mm bolt and no room to ratchet a tool. Any suggestions?...I'm working in my driveway on my back.
How many quarts of transmission oil do u refill with?
Hi, great video, but i would like ask about as the oil was replaced? I read that for change the oil, usually should to use the external pump to drain out the oil while other conection in the pump should fill up the transmission. My question is, can i complete the oil using only the level rod? I bought the ford fusion 2.5 with Frn5 transmission, with your experience, what are could said about this transmission? thanks for your attention.
My 2006 fusion has a rough time changing gears sometimes. But I also read that year didn't had some issue with it
Excellent video👍...
Is this the same trans in a 2008 MKZ? I would assume so. I have one thats starting to run like shit and it only has 70k miles on it. I bought it at 55K about 3 years ago so it defintely sat awhile im assuming. I had the transmission fluid flushed but that didnt help. Im thinking I need to change the filter. Any thoughts?
What does a vibration while in gear and not moving mean with the 2.3l i4 and 5 speed auto
Where would the TCM be on your fusion thanks for the video
Do the 2009 with the 2.3 have the same transmission? Or is it the trans with the filter you cannot change?
I got code P0771 for shift Solenoid E I changed it but same thing is happening tho what do I do! ? Hey
Would this be the same process for a 2007 Fusion SE with the 2.3 engine and automatic transmission ?
?
is the same filter for fusion 2008 v6 3.0 SEL?
Thank you for the video. I'd like to see how the filter was removed and put back in place. Did you purchase a new pan or just wipe it clean, it looks brand new. Do I need to remove and wipe clean the magnet? I'm a first timer DIY on my Fusion. Thank you.
Use the old pan, and magnet. Just wipe down with shop towels and mineral spirits. Just don't use any metallic scrapers on any parts.
How do you get the 2 rear bolts out cut the frame? What tools do I need to get the 2 rear bolts out closet to the driver side frame
I was hoping someone had asked this... and I was really hoping someone answered 🤣
Swivels & extensions
I have a cuestion of magnet u take off. Still u have to put back on sr
Is this drain plug 10mm hex?
On one side of the transmission i cant take of the bolts. I was wondering how you did it.
Ford put the tranny pan in a spot where you need to use a 'wobbler', (a socket attachment that allows you to get it form different angles....I needed several sockets, extensions, etc...to remove the pan because the crossmember is in the way)….
Have this scheduled for Monday at the dealer, along with 4 open recalls lol
Jason Koneman recalls are common nowadays & basically proactive type thing. Thank Toyota for hiding defects & getting biggest fine in history.
How easy was it to refill the transmission? My Volvo S60 has an Aisin Warner AW55-51SN (F33) and I have to take off the air box to get to the dipstick and fill tube. Thankfully I have the cylinder style filter so I just stuck it on the MAF sensor like I had the airbox on and checked the fluid like that. I know that's slightly unorthodox, but it works.
This one has a dipstick tube that I used to fill the transmission, super easy.
Is hard to. Change of tranmission fluid sr. I have a 06 ford fusion.
Hello Daniel do you, or anyone, know how much fluid needs to be replaced with just a drain and fill? My fluid is dark at 60,300 on a 2009 car not really as dark as yours its more of a light grey/brown but I ordered 5 Quarts of the Mazda MV fluid, it says in the owner's manual 4.7 quarts but not sure if that's total capacity or just a drain and fill, and, will a drain and fill be sufficient in getting most of the old fluid out and having some new good lubricating fluid in? theres no problems with the car by the way no rough shifts or codes, just want to perform some preventative maintenance.
so i used reline d4 since it met the mv spec and ive been having terrible shift shock i spoke to a local dealer's service department and a tech told me 'i know im supposed to push the motorcraft stuff anyways but not using the specifically designated fluid marked fnr5 on the bottles can lead to serious issues' wonder if thats my case there wasnt any shift shock before but now there is hopefully i didnt permanently botch anything
Should you add some additive with it?
How many quart of trans fluid did you add?
and what kind of filter did you use is it the OE filter?
When I removed the drain bolt...approx. 3.5 quarts came out. When I removed the pan and filter... another 28 ounces came out (I measured it). So if your only doing a drain a refill...3/12 quarts...if you remove the pan and change the filter...almost 4/12 quarts...
I have this same car except it is a 2006, it just rolled 104K miles and the fluid has never been changed. Would you recommend me taking it to the Ford Dealer and changing it or wait until 150K like the owners manual says?
Devin Yockey do in now! It's cheap & easy.. relatively speaking. Make sure dealer does pan drop (replace filter etc) like Daniel did.
What kind of transmission is that and what kind of gasket and filter is that
I cannot figure out how to get the pan bolts that are directly above the frame. Everyone skips videoing this step and doesn’t mention it. Please help.
Do yk how
Do you have a link to where I could obtain this filter and gasket kit? My wife's 2009 Fusion is at 107000, and has been flushed a few times. The next one will be myself doing it and I want to coincide a flush with a new filter, if possible. I have read that it's not serviceable but it clearly is. Also, what fluid did you use? I can't seem to get FNR5 fluid anymore for less than $20 per quart. I'm thinking of putting MObil 1 ATF in. Thoughts? Thanks for sharing this!
Castrol Import Multi Vehicle ATF worked well for me....
Do you know if is the same procedure in the Fusion 2009 6V 3.0 AWD?
Yes, but different bolt locations.
Some of the pan bolts are directly above the frame. How do you access those to remove the pan?
Just had that problem, no fucking clue, how did you do it?
@@kaysonjones840 all you need is a Swivel and a 1/4 extension like times 8x able to get to all the bolts no problem and put em back in that way gravy work
what fluid did you use?
You have tire machines in your home garage. Thats awesome!
It's been one of the best investments I've ever made. SO nice to be able to do my own tire work!
Ur da man Daniel.
@@DanielJaegerFilms how much fluid did you put back in?
@@frank-bmtz 10 gallons
what size tool to remove Trans drain plug?
10mm
What does a little full mean?
What size wrench did you use to unscrew the transmission drain plug?
5/8 hex key (Allen wrench)
Hi there, I just picked up a 2013 Ford Fusion 1.6L auto, 124K and the tranny fluid looks very dirty similar to yours. A local mechanic warned against changing the dirty fluid because it might cause trans to go inop? Your thoughts?
Change it
Do you know if that’s the same transmission in the 3.0L version???
No it's not. My v6 fusion doesn't have a drain plug.
A Ford Fusion 2007 3.0 v6 automatic transmission has its filter in the transmission right not in the pan ?
Fusion V6 has a 6 speed transmission NOT the transmission in this video
My jeep didn't have a drain plug, such a big mess
What kind of fluid does the Fusion use ?
God bless
Wyr
I used Castrol Import MV and it worked great....
so I put transmission fluid in my oil and ran it idle without actually driving it for about 3 or 4 mins till I realized what I had done. I plan on changing the oil tomorrow in it. Have I screwed my car up or what?
Cody Walters Did you ever figure it out?
FUCKING dumdass!!!
THANK YOUUU!!!!
What tool did you use to unscrew the bolts on the subframe side of the pan? Man, it's pretty difficult to get to those bolts. Tried a couple times with a regular ratchet & extension but it just doesn't work.
did you ever figure out how to remove the pan from the subframe? if so how did you do it.
Yo, I know this is an old comment. But for the case of my Camry, I can't reach 4 bolts. They are to the side adjacent to the wheel. What do you do?
Unscrew the two or three bolts from the plastic frame in the wheel well that keeps dirt from getting in. Push it away or take it off and now use a regular Allen key to slowly unscrew the bolt. It takes a long time but you will eventually get it off.
I just did mine I removed the tire, removed the plastic covering an was able to access the bolts.
You need to use 'wabbling' sockets which allow you to get the bolts from an angle....it's difficult but not impossible....
Is this the 3.0 fwd?
Justin White nope but similar
What tool did you use to get the drain plug out? An allen wrench?
Did you find the answer?
@@omarbakhaty6400 yes, it was a Hex Socket.
@@DadJokesAllDayLong thank you for your reply. Di you remember what size? Thank you.
@@omarbakhaty6400 I bought one so I have it around here somewhere. Let me see if I can find it
Yes please i really appreciate that
Hey Daniel do you know what the torque specs were for the bolts thanks
rick C I think 106in
Ok thank you do you know were I can double check that I cant seem to find anything online anywhere thanks
What year Fusion is this
I think 2008
Still strong 😃.
I do not like the b5 mazda transmissions in cvt automatics. They arent like the the Aissin Seiko. My Aissin has gone 250k no change and running normal. The mazda manuel transmissions are great however.
That Aisin Aw-f21 is horrible in the 2006 fusion, thts why they only used them for one year then switched up
If i only watch this video can i change my tranny fluid?
There's no reason to wait until 150,000 miles to change the fluid, especially if there's a drain plug.
Yes there is. Neglect. It's a perfectly good reason. The car still runs and shifts OK so it must not need any service. Someone told me the stuff last forever. All kinds of stupid reasons why not to service your transmission when there's a freaking drain plug at the bottom of it!
Yeah but a filter change is necessary!
One question can you take off a tire to easily get to the transmission pan if you don't have a lift?
Did it ever slip after?
i bet it did
do you have your 84 epiq at home?
Yup! They bumped me up to a supervisor at work, so I brought all my tools home!
+DanielJaegerFilms I got moved to electrical from heavy line so my cart is at work and my Macsimizer is at home
Ese motor tiene fallos ?
How many quarts of new fluid? And why is FNR5 fluid so hard to find?
Michael Baker it's a Mazda specific fluid. I got mine direct from Mazda dealer (it was about 50 cents/qt more expensive from Ford).
Capacity is 7 qts
Benny Lara no big deal u don't do this often.
Is it a mazda m5 fluid?
I'm here because my 06 Fusion is at around 148,000 miles and it just started to rev high when taking off and needing to get to 45 mph asap. If I'm turning onto a road where I just need to do 25, it does fine, shifts like it should. Anyone else getting this? I see in the comments not to change the fluid at this point but wondering if about 140k does the trans start to call it quits. I baby the car and never stomp on the gas if I don't have to.
Just saw what yours did at the end of the video. I was typing before I watched, and it was similar to that, almost redlined when I didn't want it to.
Gregory Woodward take to local Ford dealer and have full transmission service done! Like Daniel explained.
Is that gasket built in does anybody know?
Sealed from the factory with RTV (the pink stuff in the video)
Most aftermarket filters come with a rubber or cork gasket you can use to reseal, probably could use RTV as well but would need new application
Good Afternoon @DanielJaegerFilms, in the cold starts, you remember if this Fusion rate 2.000Rpm?
Quite a dirt on that magnet it looked like
Damn bro you be smashing I would love to drive a 5-speed too bad mines an automatic
Yeah same with mine. The automatic transmission is freaking horrible on this car. Shifts hard and erratically, misses/floats around gears when accelerating hard, ugh. Makes me wish I had the standard
his is an automatic... it just has 5 speeds...
@@Big_Red_Dorkmines does the exact same! Just got it a month ago from Santa Rosa, Ca. I hate how it drives. The fluid is dark. So many problems and i dont have much money. If you have any tips can you email me: spartanking1@hotmail.com or just respond on here. Any help would be very much appreciated.
@@dextercooper3364 sure thing dude, I'll send you an email later today
Video Doesn’t say which motor, what fluid, or how much to add.
That fluid is toast , and what about the rest of the old fluid
Do all the fusions have a Mazda tranny
why is your snapon epiq at home and not work?
I was promoted to a supervisor.
+DanielJaegerFilms in that case congratulations
+camtheham13 thanks! I gotta say I will miss working on cars at work but I can always turn wrenches at home!
so is it a myth or a fact that replacing your fluid at this mileage can cause the transmission to slip?
llSubSpacell just make sure u refill to the right amount or it will cause problems.
Chrisfix did a vid on it
If it has never been done then no dont replace it..... but if it has been changed at the recommended service intervals then you are good to change it.... Reason for saying not to replace the fluid if it has never been changed over 100k is the fact that it will most likely be burnt and full of clutch material... their will be little clutch material left on the clutches disks themselves and they are relying on the fluid which is mixed with this clutch material to allow them to engage and hold properly.... draining out this fluid and replacing it with new fluid will possibly make them start to slip and have no engagement..... sure you already have figured this out tho... haha
Gatorsrok changed at 130kmine still running like a champ good theory tho.
i never said it is certain that over 100k you cant change it...... take out the dipstick and smell if its burnt or drain some into a container and see what it looks like, burnt silvery looking fluid should not be changed and the fluid be put back in the trans.... otherwise change the bitch!!
How can that 2008 fusion look more rusty than my 1999 peugeot? :S
They might use salt on the roads where he lives, which leads to rust cars. But I've noticed American cars rust out pretty fast though.
Like he said ^ Lots of salt used here, and if you don't wash them frequently during the winter salt eats these cars alive from the inside out.
i thought you shouldnt ever empty and flush the transmission fluid after that many miles thought it created problems for you
Andre Robinson many transmissions only loose 3/4 of the fluid with a pan drop. This new fluid will be introduced into the trans just fine. Never perform a harsh flush.
Vincent Martens Ford Fusion will last much much longer than any Peugeot friend.

Man normal? Look at all the metal shaving in the trans fluid.
I don't know what ur talking about those transmission r piss off shit i already replace my twice. Even the ford dealer agreed with me on that.
You didn't show us how to put in new transmission fluid. That will be helpful.
Joseph Dan you fill it through the dipstick
@@chandlercompton5478 some people don't know where dipstick is on vehicles
On the 2.3L, it’s to the left of the battery, toward the firewall. it’s red on top, and should say ATF on it, not too sure where it is on the V6, but it should be somewhere on the drivers side of the engine bay since the engine is on the passenger side
If you dont know how to poor the fluid in chances are you shouldn't be working on cars.
How to find out which filter I need? It's not I. The manual or the hanyes 2012 car manual.
Derek Foulk get the kit at parts store or preferably use OEM Motorcraft from amazon or local dealer.
Where's the kubota
What ATF fluid did you use?
Make sure you use FNR5 fluid only on that transmission
If it were an Italian car, you could give it tomato juice and it would love you for it. I've heard the higher-performance models prefer Arrabbiata sauce.
genius you didn't show how to remove the filter
Ford did own 20% of Mazda at one time.
Didnt show how to put the filter on and didnt show what fluid you used... nice.
“Fluids pretty dark” well then change it more. That’s disgusting. Also you worked at a GM dealer and still didn’t change your fluid for 150k miles? My 2014 Malibu got it changed at 30k miles and it was still very red
Danggggg that's some nasty fluid
Looks like your AT is still slipping.
Nonetheless your vid 🎥helped.
Mines does the same way it’s suppose to shift like that these transmissions go for long time only issue they might run into is the solinods
You didn't show where to put the liquid in. Kinda makes the video pointless
I notice the motor is rocking back an forth an can use a mechanic to tune it up LMAO
Probably motor mounts or something. They're known to be problematic on this car.
Ok
Why do you practically red line everything you drive? I don't understand the need for a hard take off
It's not necessarily hard on a vehicle to open the throttle up all the way periodically. It's actually good for it, helps clean carbon deposits from the engine. Plus, I wanted to ensure the transmission wouldn't slip under heavy acceleration before selling it to the new owner.
***** I've never seen transmission fluid that dark before. I don't quite understand having the need for rust inhibitors. If a transmission has oil in it, then why would it need rust prevention? Wouldn't the oil itself prevent any rust?
Haha I've thought the same thing, perhaps internal transmission components that aren't submerged in fluid?
Cause it's fun...
DanielJaegerFilms good man!
...frivolous commentary. No mention of allen size or how you got the hidden pan bolts out. Glad you told us you like your flashlight. Useless
Daryl Fresno: did you ever find out how to get those hidden tranmission pan bolts out? Glad I did a little walk through first realizing I couldn't get a tool on them. I thought of drilling a hole through the metal frame cross-members but opted not to. For now: just drain, replace, drive and repeat 2-3 times.
Kinda bad you didn’t explain how you got those bolts off the driver side, that would’ve been helpful 😒👎🏾
Skipped the most important part. Removing and replacing the filter. Lol.
