A company doesn't allow you to arm or protect yourself, therefore they are legally obligated to provide for your safety.
I don't know where you live, but in the real world there are all kinds and levels of security. At high risk locations where workers may be robbed or attacked, it's usually off duty police who are in their uniform and armed. Even though they are acting in a capacity of private security, they still retain their full police powers.
Never did I say that every fast food place should have security, but in at risk areas, they often do. Clearly, this is an at-risk area.

It's standard operating procedure and you can and will be terminated, even if you provide it to the police without management's approval. It's stupid, but so are frivolous lawsuits and employer liability. Our judicial system created the minutia we all have to swim in. It sucks, but such is life.

They and the store owner are doing HER and themselves and even their customers a disservice by being such COWARDS and not standing behind this employee's brave actions. I would sue just on the fact that a franchised national store only had her working alone which made it more likely a robbery would happen.
Sue them? Was this the first time a worker worked alone? Was it standard operating practice? Was it because of an employee shortage, due to the government program of taking hard earned money from hard working people and giving it to people who'd rather sit at home than participate in gainful employment?
I do feel the employer is wrong for not contacting her- my guess is their attorney advised due them not to.

Subway will try to say they suspended her because their policy probably says that employees are not supposed to fight or try to protect the store, to just give them what they want. But someone please tell her that the robber was taking her belongings not the stores and that she has every right to fight for what's hers and to defend herself!!! If corporate policy was to not fight an armed intruder and they suspended her unpaid for 3 days (garbage outcome in that situation anyway), then at least you would know where they drew a line in the sand! This is the reason I avoid shopping at corporations. They only care about the money and couldn't care less about their employees. I may pay a little more but it's rewarding keeping mom and pop shops going.

You say defend the company, but they have a policy of compliance when faced with armed robbers. They have insurance which will cover any of their losses. By the employee putting herself in danger she created liability for Subway. The fact that she successfully disarmed the would be robber is the only reason this story hasn’t taken a more tragic turn. What if she got shot or others got harmed due to her “heroics”? Not only would she be in the wrong, but now the company is on the hook and has to assume liability, when their policy clearly states that in this situation, they are to comply. It sucks but the right thing to do is fire her. It’s just a subway job, which I’m sure she could easily get a similar job

Almost all corporate and individual store policies will state clearly to just give the robber the money and let them go, not to confront the robber. But if the robber attacks you they cannot tell you to not defend yourself. I haven’t seen the video yet so I can’t give an opinion one way or the other, other than a personal opinion that people should be armed so they can defend themselves and any company that says otherwise shows how much (how little) they value their employees over potential lawsuit. And that is due in large part on left leaning state laws that allow criminals to sue their victims if they are injured during the commission of a crime.

There are times in retail you will have to fight back to survive. I know I’m not one to back down either. I work front desk at a hotel late night shift mostly alone. I always have a weapon with me just in case.
