I recently realized its what some NBA players do as to finalize the game and I guess eliminate chance for either replay or the teams to reassemble to come back to play. Look into it. I'm just not sure what the actual term or rule is.

@@skinnie2838 i know that when you touch it with your hand when the buzzer goes off it doesn’t count, put it on .25 speed, it’s released right at the buzzer, and it’s not an nba final, so they’ll slide it and it’s an impressive shot for high schoolers.
I am the official time keeper of the game, and I am still trying to track the team down to let them know the shot did not count.

I think it did, I replayed it a few times and haven't managed to hear the buzzer until the ball was in the air
@@intheplums the buzzer goes off, and if you hit the pause button at precisely the right time, the ball is still in his hands. It might help to change the playback speed to half of regular speed or less.

Yeah, I wonder if the buzzer was right by the camera guy. We're talking about 1/10 of a second, which is about how long it takes for the buzzer sound to reach the referee. If you watch the ref on the left, he was watching the player and signaled that it was fair if it went it in.

It shouldn't have counted. If you set the playback speed to 0.25, you'll find the ball was still in his hands at the buzzer.
I thought since he was in the air when it went off it would be legal? not a huge basketball guy so i could be wrong. but its a HS game so its not gonna have the best officiating lol
Nope, the ball has to be out of the shooter's hands before the buzzer sounds. And you're right about that last part. LOL.
I mean it's in the act of being shot from his hands as the alarm buzzes. I set it to 0.25 and you can see the alarm sounds as the ball is moving forward out of his hands. I'd say it counts because the ball is already going towards its location.

Back in the 70's before basketball practice we'd have contest shooting from halfcourt. We had this cubby pine rider named AL and for some odd reason he couldn't dribble or run or much of anything but he always won. We'd all put in a quarter. During the season we made a furious comeback and they threw the ball away on our end with 3 seconds and we called timeout. Coach was drawing up a play and Barry our starting guard said, "coach I need to tell you something" He told them about the contest we have everyday before practice and give AL a shot. Coach thought it was crazy and he said, well no one will expect it so he sent in AL. Al caught the ball and took one dribble and was about 5 feet from halfcourt and let it fly. BOTTOM. We won and no one could believe it. LOL and those were the only two points AL scored all year.

This video is so great on many levels. The best is the master escape from the dude that dropped the shot. He makes the shot, goes very deep into the mob then beats everyone to the exit. It was like out running a wave. Nobody got to him. On his way his teammates blocked the students rushing him. Then he barely makes it through those hard doors unscathed. The dude in the orange got crushed on the crossbar of the door.
Number 5 literally saved him too by opening door and pushing him through it lol
