  • I do extensive testing of video and photography with the Canon EF-M mount versions of the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 and 33mm f/1.4 lenses with firmware v1.0.5. The two focal lengths are compared side-by-side so you can decide which one might work best for your needs. I talk about features such as the included lens hood, click-less aperture, and manual focus ring. I show how the lenses work in practice for photo and video by taking you along for an outdoor excursion. There are tests such as manual and automatic large aperture video autofocus, digital stabilization check, click-less aperture in video, photo servo AF, photo aperture comparison, self portrait test, and a lot more! Keep in mind that Viltrox sent me these lenses to make a video on. I will be keeping them so look forward to future videos on these compared to other equipment I have on-hand. This video took me around 5 days of intense non-stop work to produce. Pause the video as needed and watch in 4K if possible because the images are zoomed in for that resolution.

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  3 года назад +2

      I haven't tried the two lenses side by side yet, but I don't personally think going from f/2 to f/1.4 is worth the cost of a new lens. Plus, the 22mm is a very small lens which has its benefits. If you have the 15-45mm kit lens, set it to 33mm and see if you like the field of view. There would be a nice upgrade in available aperture with the Viltrox compared to the 15-45mm kit lens at 33mm.

    It's odd that they chose these focal lengths as we already have choices in this range (22mm f2, 30mm f/1.4, 32mm f/1.4). What I'd really like to have is a lighter/cheaper 15/16mm f/1.4 or a cheaper 50-56mm f/1.4. Oh, and not be in cheap robot from the 1980's color scheme. :-)

    • @ScottJWaldron
      @ScottJWaldron  3 года назад

      Yeah, I'm not sure what they are thinking with the focal lengths. They just released a 56mm for ef-m as well that I'll probably get for testing. I do think there will be a wide angle. "The Crowley Crew" channel posted a lens roadmap he found... I think it was a 13mm but I can't recall exactly.

    • @GrantMcWilliams
      @GrantMcWilliams 3 года назад

      @@ScottJWaldron I just saw and added the 56mm to my lens database. It seems that Viltrox is trying to match Sigma spec for spec. The 33mm is almost identical to the Sigma in every spec, even lens thread diameter. The 56mm is quite a bit larger than the Sigma 56 though
      Current choices seem to be
      Adapted 50mm f/1.8 $165
      Sigma 56mm f/1.4 $429
      Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 $299
      There's a 10% off code over at Todd Dominey's channel putting the Viltrox at $269.
      The Sigma is smaller than the 50mm + adapter and only slightly heavier. The problem is that the Viltrox is pretty much the same size as the EF 50 f/1.8 with adapter and is actually heavier. Unless there's a big advantage over the adapted 50mm I can't see buying it. I'd really like to hear about the rumored Canon 52mm f2. If that lens was smaller/lighter than the adapted lens (and is should be) I'd choose that over either the Sigma or Viltrox. No word on if it will ever exist though.
