Yes, but with an if. If you want best fuji jpeg, shoot with fuji lens. This is because fuji designed lenses for the xtrans system, not for normal bayer. If you do raw, do with whichever lens.
Hello Pav 👊... I got into this production when I have been using this glass for several months :), this is the first player from this manufacturer that supports my Z50 ... I think I will gradually expand the Vili herd because I am very satisfied 😉👍
Nice review, some reviewers says click at F5.6 for sharp pics, then why bother buying f1.4 lens, stop at f2.0 and most issues are mostly gone. Very nice review. Its a winner in my opinion considering price. Going to get one now.
Why buy an f1.4 lens if you plan on stopping down to f5.6 for more sharpness? Well, it still gives you the flexibility to have shallow depth of field for portraits or low-light shots. I use my Viltrox 23mm f1.4 at f5.6-f8.0 for sharp images in streetbphotography and at f1.4 for low-light shooting at events.
I am a video maker, I think the viltrox would make a great video lens, to me it has a "film" like quality to it. If I was strictly photo shooter I think I would go with the Fuji.
Was tempted to get the Viltrox 33 but also have the Fuji 35mm 1.4. Took the Fuji for a real testdrive the last days but can not fault it. At 1.4 already very sharp. Yes the edges a bit soft wide open but this also happens with my 35 and 50mm lenses on my dslr. And 35mm on apsc is not my most favorite focal lenght. So the Fuji stays.
Great review! I've bought the lens and am very happy with the pictures i'm getting with it. However, I do experience an annoying bug when using it on manual focus on my X-T20. I like to use focus peak highlight, but the aperture is not being set when turning the ring when on manual focus. It stays at 1.4f and it only sets it correctly when half-pressing the shoot button, but then the peaking is gone. Release the shoot button and you goes back to 1.4f while the screen says 2.0f. You can hear the aperture change when half-pressing the shoot button. This makes focus peaking not possible, since you'll always be peaking at 1.4f and never on a set aperture.
it could be an issue with the lens. Have you tried updating the firmware? not all firmware versions are compatible with this lens with all of the cameras - it could be issue with a version of firmware on the lens and firmware of your X-T20
@@PavSZ I found out it's not a bug, but a design choice of the camera. There is a feature you can assign to your quick buttons (continuous aperture or something) which enables constantly showing the right focus plane instead of just darkening the image to show you a resemblance of the exposure. It probably costs a lot of battery to constantly hold the lens on the set aperture since the feature will disable after taking a shot.
I only found out when I was researching the lens before making the review. Very dumb design - why did they put that button so close to the lens mount??
Great review! Liked how you got to all the points that I was looking for. Quick question, once you dial in your AF speed/smooth settings on native fuji prime, when switching to the viltrox, do you find the AF results to be the same? Or do you find yourself having to tweak those AF settings again for video. With my Fuji primes that’s one thing I noticed and love, that the desire AF results felt consistent when swapping primes. Might have to test the viltrox myself to see the results lol
Great video. I bought the 23, 33,and 56 for my Sony A6500, and using the manual aperture for video works perfectly fine, so it may be the a characteristic of how Fuji focuses?
great video, I like your clear explanations of things, great pics also, and the blond model, I don`t know she is a pro, but then she have to bekome one, you have a new subscriber!
The XC 35mm f2 is good for silent focus and does a great job for shooting in sunny conditions like summer, but indoors in winter months is not fast enough for light capturing so that’s where f1.4 lenses would help.
Some other Fuji reviews state that the "stepped apperture" in video is a camera related thing ... So in your opinion the performance at F1.4 is good enough? I still can't decide between the Viltrox and the Fuji F2. The Fuji is perfectly sharp at F2.
Thanks for the review. Looking to buy a X-T4 and a couple of primes at the moment and I just found out about the Viltrox lenses. I was thinking of Fujinon 56mm + the 23mm. But now I'm considering the Viltrox 56mm instead since it's almost half the price. But I really wanted to ask you what lens you would recommend for food photography with the X-T4?
Good question. Both 56mm and 23mm will be good for food photography on XT-4. Viltrox lens quality is really surprisingly good. If you are going for Viltrox use this link: viltroxstore.com/?ref=me--StPDWyTYI and PAVSZ code for 10% off
Are you satisfied with the lens? I've used the demo fuji 23 1.4 before, it was very good. Are there any serious differences? I will use it for indoor portrait photography. GYM's, Kitchens, Homes.
No problem with auto focus in video at all - apart from XT-4's focusing on the background and back to the person issue (not lens related). I had that with every Fuji lens that I have tried. All my video samples in the review have been filmed with AF on without any problems or surprises. Solid
I have the Viltrox 23mm, 33mm and 56mm. I love the 23mm and 56mm however, the 33mm is hunting constantly in video so I am now thinking to sell it. Are you having autofocus issues with using this lens for video?
Hi I have v2 of all viltrox lenses for Fuji and they have no problems i use them on the Fuji xpro 1 and xpro 2 and xt3, xe3 and xs10 and they all work great very fast autofocus and no problems.
@@Nightshade1881 yeah I picked it up a few weeks ago for decent price, used. It's a very nice lens, apart from a little heavy vignetting. And yeah, a little more on the close focusing would have been nice. But hey, it's a realtively budget lens.
