Mr. Ishmael Well, it definitely accomplished a lot more in the short term. Also, Kittan's death was kind of necessary. If he didn't sacrifice himself, they would have all died. If Kamina survived the fight with Dai Gunzan, the series would not have changed that much. His death made Simon stronger, so you could argue that they would have lost against Teppelin, but that's hard to say.
