I love Dave Brubeck's laid-back style here, as he literally leans back in a standard upright chair appearing to relax, but the beautiful intricacies that he works on the piano keys are a lot more than laid back. Paul Desmond's saxophone compliments this well, as at first Desmond seems to be just happy-go-lucky about what he's playing, but again his intricacies on the saxophone that play against Brubeck's cording and keyboard work, along with Dave Morello's consistent percussion work, and Eugene Wright's base lines - everything here is just superb.
I love the angle of the camera that changes at about 3:32 on the time bar. The vast expansive spaces of the modern concert hall in Finland, above in the shadows, as you can see the audience sitting in a low balcony, nearly adjacent to the quartet performing.
I fondly recall hearing music like this on my parents kitchen counter AM radio some days in the early 1960s, when I was in early elementary school.
Our Father eventually played the Time Out album on the living room stereo often, at about the same time we discovered the Beatles on Ed Sullivan one night.
Just the appearance of the Time Out album cover was a lesson to me in visual abstract art, that I transcended into a esoteric sketch at the beginning of 6th grade, in the Autumn of 1965, as I produced what looked like an MC Escher etching.

This and “The World’s Fair” are my favorite Brubeck Quartet tunes. Glad to see they included improvised counterpoint after the second solo-as on the record. Wonder why Desmond sat out the first statement of the head.

What time signature is Joe playing? It doesn’t sound like 5/4

Hello. Everyone here is playing in 5/4. Maybe try counting 1+2+3 1+2 rather than 1+2+3+4+5, I find that it's a valid subdivision.

It's so funny to see Desmond's absolute lack of emotion, Brubeck's concentration and appreciation, Wright's nonchalance ... and Joe Morello who even looks bored as if to say "Too easy to do..." he'd cook scrambled eggs while drumming!
