I had no lights or power on my KitchenAid. Did some RUclips research (including this video) and ordered a thermal fuse from Amazon for 8 dollars. All I did was pulled the leads off the old thermal fuse, and replaced it with the new one. Worked! Didn't use the new wire harness or anything, just replaced the old one. Saved hundreds of dollars on repair technicians, and lots of hassle. Thanks for the video!
Thank you! We opened up the door panel and saw the wires that were attached to the fuse were all melted and were black. Moved the wire a hair and it sparked. Unplugged dishwasher right away and having to call an appliance repairman. Thank you for your help. FYI, I did notice a slightly different smell to the dishwasher over the last month or so when I ran it. It did smell like something getting too warm/hot but it was a mild smell. I should have picked up on that sooner.
Great video.. straightforward and clear. Thanks for posting it. 🎉Same symptoms you described. My dishwasher also has a wall switch so easy to kill the power. 10 screws in the door and the electrical panel was exposed. Located the thermal fuse and carefully relieved the pressure from the clips as you described. Removed the thermal fuse, placed in the jumper wire and the panel lights lit up as they were suppose to 😊. Using a multimeter I checked the continuity of the fuse and there was none...it was shot. LEARNING: there are 2 different designs for this thermal fuse....be sure to order the EXACT design for your (Kitchenaid/Whirlpool) dishwasher. ..one has the lugs extending horizontally from the fuse (like mine), the other style the lugs are 90° to the fuse...one style is not interchangeable with the other...Amazon sells both kinds so be careful ordering. The cost of either one is about $6 to $8. Good luck. I happy to have a working dishwasher again....the scheduled AHR/Sears repair tech is not due for another 10 days 😂 (which I am canceling today).
This happens to me two or three times a year. 1. If yours dishwasher is plugged in to an outlet, unplug the plug completely and then plug it back into the outlet . 2. Then press the START button genlty; I found if you over press the Touch Buttons they will not work. ???? 3. If this does not start the dishwasher then check your circuit breaker in your main power panel. (NOTE: Even if your circuit breaker looks like it did not trip off, still shut it off and then reset it.) ALSO always check to see if the appliances has power first before you start taking it apart!!! That has always worked for me.
For me , removing the plug from socket and keeping it back resulted lights and long press on start & reset controls did the magic. All lights up and it started working back.

Hi I messaged you yesterday and took the door covering off lucky for me it turn out that wiring had come loose but thanks again for showing this video you saved me from calling someone out.
After purchasing a new LG dishwasher and using it about 6 times successfully ,the control panel would not light up at all when touching " power " . ....ie , the machine was useless . LG responded to this news by insisting that the machine was not getting power from my home's electrical grid . LG demanded that I engage an electrician to determine that the machine was getting power before they would do anything about the problem . I did what they demanded and the electrician verified that the dishwasher was getting full power , reliably . It was two more calls to LG before they finally would arrange for a local service person to represent them in solving the problem . The serviceman assumed the problem required the replacement of the whole control module . He appeared 4 days later and replaced the module in c. 5 minutes , which restored the machine to operating condition . What is wrong with this picture ?? ....simply that LG should have sent a repairman to resolve the issue upon my report of the machine's failure to operate , which would have meant having it back in operating condition within a very few days ....instead of some 17 days because LG chose instead to " jerk me around " for as long as possible , instead of taking proper corporate responsibility ....
Fuse is good. Jumped leads like in this video just to make sure, still nothing. Before I order any parts what would you change? Thank you in advance for any information.
@@TallFamilyFilms Thank you. I have to look again. When I opened it up I only checked 1 side for burns etc. was not sure how to remove back without breaking anything. What do you mean by " listen of the k "?

Take a close look at the control board. Usually (but not always) a capacitor is swelled when they fail. I’ve had decent luck buying the capacitors from Mouser and soldering them if you’re good with that kind of thing.
It’s not a fuse it’s a high limit . A metal snap dish that deforms at a certain temperature and would normally reset when it cools down . If it reads open on a multi meter just replace easy fix
Thanks for that info. I went to the parts place with my model and said I needed a “dishwasher fuse” and he gave me that. Had you not mentioned it, I’d have never known. You also helped me understand why some people say that sometimes you can slam it on the counter to “reset” it. Thanks!

Great video but i have a different issue, my dishwasher has a rotary switch to power it on and select a program. In it's off position it will randomly just power itself on multiple times a day, fortunately it doesnt do a wash by itself as there is a physical button to start the program. I guess i just need to replace the board but hoping there is a simpler fix out here on youtube.
Hello, I have a Samsung dishwasher (model DW80M3021) with the same problem, was working fine and then 2 days later the panel buttons don’t light up anymore.. any recommendation on how to tackle the issue with this brand.. 😓
I replaced my fuse and it worked for half a cleaning cycle and stopped working... ive done that 3 times now... What would cause the dishwasher to keep blowing that fuse??
Awesome video! unfortunately I have the Kitchen Aid model kdfe204kps0 - and I've taken everything apart, and I'm not able to find the fuse anywhere. Can anyone tell me where the fuse is on this model?
I don’t know that model I think this will help - I was wrong to call it a fuse but it acts like a fuse. It’s sometimes called a limiter or high limiter I am told by others. So, for you, go the searspartsdirect.com and put in your model number. Then search for your model and start looking at the diagrams. It will definitely be in the door or control panel diagram. I saw there is a thermal fuse for your model but I’m not sure if that’s your problem. Once you have a part number, check eBay. Your fuse part was W11397505
wait, so you replaced the fuse, righ (instead of putting the same one back in?) Where did you get the replacement part for the fuse, and how did you know which one to get?
Yes, I replaced it. Technically it’s called a high limit when you go to buy the part. I have a local appliance parts place near me that I used. I’d suggest you call them regardless as they will tell you the part number for yours based on the model number. Foxatlanta.com (770) 446-8446
Yours is having a different issue. Check to see if the control board has burnt wires attached to it. Remove the control board and look at the back of it for burn marks. If so, replace the board.
Curious if you had a power outage that caused the fuse to blow. My dishwasher has lost all power following a storm with power outage a few weeks ago. This seems to be a likely solution.
I did not have an outage but this is the cheapest thing to start with. There are other videos on RUclips that show how to “reset” the fuse so you could try that for free. Read the comments below near those videos to see other tips on how to do it.
We had a power outage - My Bosch DW now accepts water but wont heat - the timer works but the system does not do a wash cycle - water just sits there until you hit reset. I'm hoping it's a fuse that effects in this way instead of a total power loss as in this vid.
@@redrock1963 so, many months after I this video, I had the problem you describe. I researched it and in my case it was a burned logic board (the main board where the fuse is located). However, I saw other things that could cause it in my research. One was a jammed chopper the prevents the wash motor from turning and the other is failed wash motor. Since yours is after an outage it might have zapped the motor.
By chance do you know what kind of specific fuse or is there a universal one? You have the EXACT situation I'm having. Water sitting at the bottom and lights not turning on.
It’s probably universal in function but they come in different shapes and sizes. I’d check it against the model number. I also saw on RUclips that you can smack the old fuse against the counter to “reset” it. You can also “straight wire” it for a few seconds to make sure it’s the fuse (or check for continuity on the fuse with the multimeter).
Mine had a plug too. It was melted but not through the insulation. I replaced the high limit (the fuse) and covered all the wires in heat shrink tubing and the. Replaced my control board which was pretty burned up on the power terminals. None of that was part of this video.
I replaced the fuse in my dishwasher and it blew again. I bought two fuses and used the second one to drain it. It's twelve years old so I bought another one. Oh well had to try to fix it at least.
That’s unfortunate. You could use a multimeter to determine the amperage draw across that link. Clearly, something is drawing a high amount of amperage for it to blow like that. In my case, the logic board itself was deteriorating and causing excess heat. You could look at yours and see if you see any obvious black marks on it.
It's bad, dishwashers at all, I had one for Costco, before In 3 years broken down 6 times it's repaired and replacement most of parts but not working probably (water from kitchen sink go inside the dishwasher ) I paid for 3 years extending warranty with Allstate after 2 years manufacturer warranty Allstate refused repair Don't buy this brand for every body
So you missed highlighting the most important aspect of video...did you go buy a replacement thermal fuse? Seems so but you completely left that out other than casually referring to good fuse and bad fuse which would be the most critical point of video that was overlooked. Is there 2 thermal fuses and you just switched them since one is back up? Where did you buy new thermal fuse all important information totally omitted.... otherwise helpful video but only got us halfway there.
