Why do people always put dielectric grease, an insulator, directly on contact points??
@@KTMjs449 well, in this application, it was used because it’s: Non-corrosive, Heat resistant, Waterproof, and a good overall moisture barrier. Is it conductive? No. But it’s serving a very different purpose here. The metal-to-metal contacts take care of conductivity. I needed those contact points to be protected against what had happened to them in the past.
@TallFamilyFilms so you put it around the plastic parts of the connector to seal the opening. I had a car with intermittent fuel pump issues I had gotten cheap because it sometimes wouldn't run. Well when they replaced the fuel pump they packed all the connections with dielectric grease and the pins weren't making good contact
@ I can see how too much grease could cause an issue. But one of the most common uses the manufacturers advertise is directly on battery terminals. It works great when used properly. Fuel pumps are generally a PITA so I’m glad you didn’t have to replace it.
Thank you so much for making and posting this video! You saved me a bunch of money.
@@ryanhie2829 these are the best comments I get!
Good job
Good jop
I'm pretty sure my Bosh series 500 has this limiter issue. But my limiter is not so easy to identify on the control panel. SHPM65W55N. Seems to be a gob of wires running to one connector on the panel. Says Silence Plus 44 dBA on the panel next to the Start button. I guess I'll have to find the limiter part in order to identify on my machine. Any idea? I was hoping it looked like yours.
@@ScottAlanReed-p4s as far as I know, they all look similar - even in other appliances like dryers. Your unit should have a wiring diagram inserted into a plastic pocket on the bottom or on the back that might help you
@@TallFamilyFilms I found what looked like a likely candidate for a fuse. Two brown wires running to large connector about a foot below the Start switch then wires to the Start switch connector. Tested for continuity and got 725. Jumped it and plugged the dishwasher in. Panel did not light. But I'm wondering if for my Bosch machine, the door needs to be closed. There's a sensor on that too so won't start if door ajar, which it has to be in order to work on the panel. Guess I'll have to work on that next. I hate putting that door on and off. Oh well.
That door thing is not true. My door is in two halves meaning the facia comes off yet the door is closed when doing work. Jumped what seemed to be the fuse and nothing. Will get at it again tomorrow. If fail, it will be time for repair guy or new power board or both.
👍🏽 thank you
This was actually super informative and helpful. Thank you for doing what you do. You had an effect on my life today. I have been experiencing high levels of anxiety and stress over this car bullshit and you just gave me a little relief and restored some hope that I can retrieve my truck from the parking lot I had to leave it two days ago. I got no bread and no way to fix the starter especially since it is stuck. I have hope that I will be able to start it now. Wish me luck, Brother. Thanks again
@@mcyeti460 Amazon has lots of cheap starters and they’re usually easy to replace (assuming it’s not a Tacoma or Titan). They aren’t hard - I have videos for a few trucks I’ve done. But you can keep tapping it for a while as well until you get the dough.
@@mcyeti460 oh, one more thing. If tapping works, it’s just the brushes inside the solenoid that are worn. And you can replace just those on some starters. Amazon has some universal replacement motor brushes as well. Just take allots of pictures and have a video running as you take it apart since there are springs involved and sometimes they go flying :) Some say It’s helpful to have someone turning the key while you’re tapping - I can see how that might functionally be helpful but it’s much more risky since the engine will turn over and start with you under it. The engine is not forgiving and will gladly eat your fingers or entire hand and arm if you let it. So be careful with this approach. I’d say having someone in the driver seat while you are underneath is helpful, but not actively turning the key while you’re tapping. Lastly, to locate the starter, it should be around the transmission housing - if it’s a truck, its rear wheel drive which means the housing will be the the large semi-circular aluminum “bell” hanging down under the back of the engine - sometimes near the oil pan. Remember, it has to turn the flywheel so it will be near the engine itself. You got this!
Perfect video 👍straight to the point barely any talking just explaining just got my truck done same year and model.
Thanks for the detail video, really appreciate it. Hard to find videos on this truck(2nd gen Titan). What starter replacement brand did you go with? Amazon or your local automotive store (Autozone, Oreilly and/or NAPA). Appears that Amazon have the lowest price on these starters compared to local automotive store. Wonder if there is a quality difference.
@@JDMTitan Amazon - so much cheaper and doing great. Good warranty too. Less than $100.
@ those engineers of Nissan needs to do some services on stuff they design so they can understand what a pain it is to get to those 2 bolts behind the starter.
@ yeah - they’re tough. Once I got the right combination of sockets and swivels it was a lot easier. Be sure and check the description of this video to find the re-assembly video. Lastly, I was shocked when I saw Autozone prices were almost matching dealer for the starter. Insane.
So, you dont have a reassembly video?
@@andreworozco6976 I mentioned in the description that I was only showing disassembly, but this guy did the opposite and has a great re-assembly video: ruclips.net/video/MQ8RtPcQhiA/видео.html I don’t remember what was going on that day, but there was a reason that I wasn’t putting the starter back in immediately to finish filming. Overall, reassembly is pretty easy.
What year is this armada or titan? Anybtricks on fixing c1179 code other than reflash and new booster
Wow! Thanks for the video. I was convinced my issue was corroded paint on the passenger side and was looking to have my roof and hood repainted since there is corrosion. This saved me a lot of money and now I can plan to have the truck painted instead of taking it in as an emergency. LIKED AND SUBSCRIBED!!
@@renimartin1359 glad to hear it! Make sure you replace the small strip of insulation between the windshield and the plastic cowl. It needs to go all the way across and if your truck is old, it’s probably gone. Otherwise, too much water comes down the windshield too fast and it overflows the drain.
@TallFamilyFilms got it on order and thanks again
I have a very similar model and symptoms. Although my thermal fuse was bad, replacing it did not solve the problem as it still loses power mid-cycle, but gets power back again after it cools back down. I wanted to point out that the black stuff on your wires is NOT from the electrical tape. It's actually melted insulation from the door panel. You can see the melted marks on the black honeycomb insulation at the 2:15 mark in your video. I have the exact same marks on mine. I'm still trying to figure out the root cause of the overheating.
@rocklob and you sir are 100% correct. I updated the description of this video a year or so ago when I realized the entire main board was overheating and needed to be replaced. I suspect yours is doing the same?

I had an 08 Titan SE that I replaced the blend door actuator in and it wasn't too hard but it is in a very tight space so be patient and it will happen. I crashed that truck and bought another 08 Titan but an LE model this time. Again, I had to replace the blend door actuator and it was much more difficult due to the amplifier being in the way as well. The more options your truck has, the tighter they pack them into this small space under the dash board. I was considering removing the drivers seat but the sub woofer is in that space as well and would require removal as well. I HATE engineers! They do not consider the poor mechanics at all where it comes to ease of repairs.

@@4u2nve hi there - if you read through the evolution of comments, you’ll see where I mention that. It’s a must IMO. Home Depot type is fine
@@TallFamilyFilms I’m not talking about a thin piece of insulation, mine is a narrow thin piece of finish trim that’s plastic. There may have been insulation under that with some kind of two sides tape at some point but there isn’t anymore. But again that’s not my issue, I’m looking for the piece of plastic. Mine sits on top of that cowl and is broken.
@@4u2nve I know the piece you’re talking about. Mine cracked into many pieces. I could never find a part number for it.
