  • This DNA mutation lecture explains about types of point mutations like nonsense mutation, missense mutation, silent mutation etc.
A mutation is a everlasting exchange somewhere in a DNA sequence. DNA is the unit of heredity of all organisms, so this means that mutations can most often be handed on to offspring. Mutations do not have got to be bad. Some are worthy, whilst others are impartial or don't have any effect. There are a lot of one of a kind categories of mutations, however in this lesson we can center of attention on factor mutations, or these attributable to a metamorphosis in a single or a fewnucleotides at a single area in a DNA sequence.
A mutation that includes a single nucleotide and may consist of lack of a nucleotide, substitution of a nucleotide for another, or the insertion of an extra nucleotide.
For instance, sickle-mobile disorder is triggered with the aid of a single factor mutation (a missense mutation) within the beta-hemoglobin gene at role 6 that converts a GAG codon into GTG, which encodes the amino acid valine as a substitute than glutamic acid.

When talk genetic code and codons, please refer to RNA codes, so A,U,C,G. Cuz transcription goes 5' to 3' reading the template 3' to 5'. That means though UAG is a stop codon, TAG on one DNA template would be read as 5'CUA 3' on mRNA, which is not a stop codon. People like reading codons in 5' to 3' direction, but it's confusing if you don't know which strand is being talked about. I know you're talking about the coding strand, not the template strand. Anyway, the rest of the infos are pretty informative. Peace

Sir in any type of mutation ..is the base changed in only one strand of DNA or in both strands ?...
For example if one strand of DNA has certain sequence and lets imagine A is replced with G in one strand ..will the other strand at same position be replaced with C ,since G pairs with C ?

Each of six populations of Drosophila in
different geographic regions had a specific
arrangement of bands in one of the large
    autosomes:
    a.12345678 d. 14322678
    b.12263478 e. 154322678

    a. Assume that the arrangement letter a is

    b. What type of structural aberration is

Shomu Biology, thank you for a clear presentation. Change in nucleotide in a codon changes the amino acid as well as the protein.. GMO technology incorporates a foreign gene, the protein are likely to be changed? Does the change of mutation in nucleotides, be equated to GMO transformation.

You can go watch his frameshift mutation video, but basically, in Frameshift, one nucleotide is inserted or deleted, causing the entire reading frame to shift. Instead of only changing one codon like in point mutation, all the following codons are changed.

Only those will get it who listen carefully, and if you're even getting doubts you can google them,
Understanding the concept and then reading the question is better
