    I bought my 1st ///MR in 2008...I had to let it go when I lost my job...I bought the last 2014 ///MR (fully loaded) with RECAROS...till this day...it puts a smile on my face when getting inside and driving it...I enjoy the paddle shifting so much...it is so accurate and FAAASSST!! It is my baby so I only drive it from time to time and only have 2,500 miles actually a little less LOL!
    EVOS just loves to hug the road man! Super glued like it's on a railroad track! 😊

    I concur with Will's statements, RE: MR vs GSR. Those who say the MR is inferior really don't know much about the SST at all. First off, yes, it is "easier" to drive because you don't have to relegate one hand to a shift knob upon each shift. HOWEVER, to properly drive an MR means shifting through all 6 gears. Important note that everyone knows by now: *6 gears* versus 5! I never drive in Normal or Sport mode, and in fact, Kozmic Motorsports (the one shop that truly specializes in TC-SST upgrades) recommends that you never drive in anything but S-Sport due to premature clutch wear in the other two modes. And, mind you, shifting in S-Sport actually increases throttle response as the mode does have their own maps, accessible via the learn-in procedure with the MUT tool. This is also the case if you manually shift in S-Sport, and you will immediately notice the difference when comparing between the N, S, and S-S drive modes, whether you shift manually or automatically.
    On the usual criticisms of the SST: there are TONS of things you can do to upgrade that SST to address many of the issues identified earlier-on when the SST was first released (temps, clutch wear, limitations on upgrades due to tq cap, etc.) In fact, Kozmic builds customer cars to beyond 800+hp, daily driven reliably. (And no, I'm not getting paid to say that.)
    I have two Evo Xs: a 5-speed FE and MR-SST. I enjoy the SST more as I get to focus on my driving than having to figure in shifts, rev-matching, clutch, brake boosting, etc. It truly is a different beast - but in a good way. Best of all, once you're in boost, you're ALWAYS in boost thanks to not having to clutch-shift. And that's regardless of whether you're using letting the TCU do the shifting, or using the paddle shifters yourself.
    A few final things to consider: as Will says, maintenance on the SST is costlier than on an M/T. You have to figure in A/T fluid changes and clutch replacements pretty much require A/T teardown service as access to the clutch packs requires disassembly of the housing itself. Finally, for those who do care about creature comforts, the MR has slight perks you don't find in a late-model GSR or USDM FE: a sunroof, sill plates, BBS wheels, standard 10" subwoofer + premium Fosgate audio, and softer Bilsteins. (I say USDM FE since the Canadian FEs are built like an MR, with the added bonus of gold-centercap BBS'. And, of course, CA FEs still have Recaros :) )
    I say: don't knock it 'til you drive it. In many ways, I wish that all my cars have a TC transmission now. Having two similar Evos with two different transmissions makes for really having two different cars. Both handle exceptionally well, and both look awesome. In truth, driving the MR doesn't make me less "connected" to the car. If anything, it spoils you.

    A manual is never inconvenient. If having to shift is interfering with your ability to eat or text and drive you need to re-evalute your life. And unless you’re driving a Hellcat if your leg gets tired in traffic you need to see the gym (and that’s an understatement). My wife dailies manuals in Denver, you should too.
    DCT are fun but they get stale fast. I just want to hear from 8/9 owners who went to the X if going 6MT to 5MT drove them crazy. I got the new WRX because I couldn’t stand the idea of going 6MT to a 5 speed, but everytime I see an Evo I question my life decisions.
    A 6MT 4G63 X would have been such a no-brainer..

      I just went from an 8GSR go an XMR.
      The MR is no where near as fun to drive. However in traffic it's really not even something that can be compared. I simply started to hate the 8 due to the commute. Where as the XMR is just amazing to drive in traffic.
      That being said the 8 is now under a car cover and will come out on weekends which really is how an Evo should be used. 👍

    currently in the process of buying a ralliart sportback with the SST. it is being worked on and the transmission had issues that are now resolved. I am getting a great deal on it trading my 2014 lancer SE for it. Im taking a hit on the miles (10k more) and the year (2010) but it seems well kept and Im getting a warranty on the drive train and the trans. My question is reliability, ive heard bad things and that they are expensive to replace etc. Did you have ANY problems while you owned your MR? plus this will be my daily so any thoughts on mileage or not putting premium in it. Thank you.

    • @_Jesus1221_
      @_Jesus1221_ 5 лет назад +2

      Grant Fisher it’s a great trans bro, it’s fun and you’ll tbh love it regardless if you like stick too. The ONLY problem you’ll have with it is if you’re pushing over 400, I have a big turbo mr and my trans couldn’t hold it nor keep up so I’m currently am getting a built tranny, it’s expensive/ tedious process but worth it when it’s done. If you plan on just doing minor mods like exhaust and cold air you’ll be fine, it’s a super fun trans

    • @nuclearfallout96gf
      @nuclearfallout96gf 5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I plan on making it my own as it is bone stock and doing minor bolt on so just rims tires and definitely a new spoiler as it's just gonna have to be my all around daily/show car/meet. So reliability is the highest priority but thank you it's nice hearing from owners not just people mad at their cars breaking in forums haha

      @@willsanders187 is the same DCT470

    • @slippercream
      @slippercream 4 года назад

      You'll need to put 92/93 RON gas in it. Don't make the mistake of putting less than premium as you're going to put the engine at risk for premie detonation.
      As for the DCT470, the only advice I can give you is... TRUST THE FEW shops who can actually work on it. Do NOT expect your local Jiffy Lube to know what the hell to do with it.
      The transmission is fantastic, though it's geared for performance. I mean, yes people just automatically assume it's an automatic, but be thankful that Mitsubishi actually put this in a Ralliart! Proper performance DCT in a high (er) performs variant Lancer. Last of its kind. And I don't give two shits that auto "journalists" and vloggers say this transmission is "rough". I say... IT SHIFTS FASTER THAN YOU CAN THINK! (So yeah, drop that clutch, mofo!)
      I digress. You can beef up the SST to handle in excess of 700... even 800 AWHP. But, again, only few shops can actually do this correctly. There is a very strict maintenance schedule needed for this as well, though it's no different than most other DCTs.
