    I bought a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X as a daily driver, is that a terrible idea? Quite possibly, but I thought I'd do a review on my experience so far. Make sure to check out my previous video below where I took it out on a track day at Donington Park in the UK and ran into a few issues...

    Coming from an 8 to a 9 to a 10, I must say... while others hate on it with "ItS NoT A rEaL EvO", I'm love it a lot. But then again it is probably because I am a dad of a 2 and a 6 yr old. My family would have hated my 8 and 9 in the past. Evo x is really an amazing daily. It is comfortable, great handling and overall an attractive looking car. congrats on your purchase and don't forget to update your relays.

    Hello Piers,
    from Alberta, Canada…
    here in Canada , only the 300 is available…
    I’ve grown up most my life around domestics…
    The evo X is my first import , and really enjoy it! ❤️👍
    domestics (V8’s) will always have a place in t my heart, but imports are so much fun.
    With current mods , just under 400hp,
    I do have the the SST, they are amazing, but need upgrading to be reliable,
    and are now capable of being tuned through Evoscan.
    It’s taken 10 years for these semi auto transmissions to be competitive with their manual brethren.
    Upgrading and maintenance is still less cost for the manual thou. 👍

      Thanks for the info mate! Still learning the ins and outs of these things! I was fully committed to go for an SST but at the last minute got tempted by the 360, really happy too

    Daily drove mine for a while. Very reliable and took it to the track a few times. Just had to replace the usualy stuff that wear out like tires brakes and scheduled oil changes. And did the preventative maintenance. Tuned and can go into full boost any day with 0 issues.

    Fellow EVO X owner, the main thing I would advise is to check the timing chain, they usually stretch on the 4B11.

    Hey love to see someone falling in love with an Evo. Regarding your concerns on Ayc pump relocation, mine was relocated by the previous owner and it sits behind the trunk liner on the right side, so you won't lose any space only a tiny bit. And regarding your gearbox shift issue try changing the gear oil and get a good synthetic oil as it should help. I drive an sst which is oem from factory not touched and is currently at 198k km and putting 350whp. If you service and take care of it properly it will last you a lifetime. I would also suggest you change the manifold before the baby as it will crack and its just a matter of when. If it cracks you will start getting exhaust fumes into your cabin, will suggest artec performance manifold.

      Thanks mate, all great info! I believe the gearbox oil was changed in '22 but I'll do some digging and see. My plan is to head to a specialist at some point soon and have them check it over and see where I stand with the common failure points so it's good to have a general idea of what to ask them about

    Dont put the engine cover back on, people take them off because its plastic and sits very close to the exhaust manifold. It can melt or catch on fire. More than likely fine to DD with, especially in traffic, but if you are ripping on it on the streets or on the track def take it off. Also if the OEM manifold is there, be prepared for it to crack. All OEM X manifolds crack at some point.

      @PiersBailey  5 месяцев назад

      Great advice thanks mate, hadn’t really thought there might be a reason other than aesthetics for removing! Will get the manifold checked out when I get it serviced, few comments mentioning them being prone to crack!

    Great review man. Since having my daughter late last year I’m also looking at getting an evo in time for the summer. Although my favourite’s are either the evo 6 & 9. I feel the Evo X is the best of both worlds with also being the most practical. So this review was extremely helpful thanks mate

      The only practical thing about the 6 is that it has a bigger boot than the CT9A platforms and X. Otherwise all you get is a genuine homologation special from the 90s. You feel and hear everything and you feel like a absolute knob while driving it on the street. I daily drove my bone stock 6 GSR for a year and a half and put 10k km on it. I enjoyed every bit of it, but the car truly is a track/weekend car even if its not modified. So now it only gets to go to car meets and the track on weekends.
      If you want a practical vehicle go with the X. If you want practicality with a bit of nostalgia and some amazing performance go with a CT9A (7, 8, 9) model. If you want to feel like Tommi Makinen and want every single bit of performance, feel every clunk and hear everything from dust being kicked up into your wheel arches to wind noise go with the CP9A (5, 6). One more thing about the 6 and other homologation evos. Even stock suspension is monotube... so every small bump on the road is a vertibrae breaking, disk herniating bump.

    I put 670bhp through a stock sst. the fastest ever evo is an sst the fq440. Its not true what your saying about the sst not handling power it comes down to mapping correctly

    • @turbosydney
      @turbosydney 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, the SST can actually hold more power than the manual. Although for 670hp I wouldnt dare running it for too long without upgrading the clutch plates

    • @PiersBailey
      @PiersBailey  5 месяцев назад

      The FQ440 has upgraded clutch plates and sump pan etc though, all my research points to you living on borrowed time at 670 on a standard box with no upgrades

      @@PiersBailey both manual and sst clutches start to slip at the same torque. Around 400ft lbs. Both gearboxes will hold more torque when clutches are upgraded
