Nobody in the business has better "NOOO! I'm loosing!" faces than Andre.
0400 seems like a great time to upload a video to me as well. Those of us working the night shift salute you.
I work day shift and it works for me as well
Unless both your jobs are watching RUclips videos neither of you is working any shift.
The Ridgeline is the truck nobody wants, but all that most need. Supremely comfortable, good road manners, good mileage, awesome V6 sound and power, towing up to 5,000lbs, an excellent AWD system, and Honda reliability to boot. There's literally nothing to not like... except our trucks are rolling status symbols, and this "crossover with a bed glued on" doesn't carry the same status as a body-on-frame midsize truck.
I was raised with a Chevy truck family, but when it's time to get rid of my Colorado, my local Honda dealer will likely be my first stop.
I have a 2019 ranger 4×4 . Just towed 2 1972 ford f100 trucks! 340 miles total! 18mpg. Went up a steep hill at 85. Nothing overheated! Love my ford.
Ronald Hagadorn wait hold up!! How the heck did you pull that off? You towed both of those trucks at the same time on a long gooseneck trailer or were they attached with tandem hitch?
Edit: Actually none of your story makes sense. Are you saying that you towed two F100 pickups up a steep hill at 85 mph and achieving 18 mpg? Get the hell out here!
@@jaysson1151 sorry I meant 2 trucks the same day.
Ronald Hagadorn okay. And you said you were getting 18 mpg while towing each of those trucks? That can’t be possible either. I’m lucky to get 19 mpg in my ‘12 F150 Ecoboost with no trailer.
@@jaysson1151 in the summer I get 25mpg. 22 empty in the winter. Most of the time I barely touch the gas. Lot of low end torque.
If I was in the boost all the time, I would get 15. But I usually do 65mph. I would get even better if I didnt have hills to go over. I would choose the f150 if I needed a full size. Better value for the dollar.
That spec and color on the Ranger looks really really good
The Ranger has an ECO Mode and it didn't get used. It's my experience that they actually get even better mileage in Snow Mode. Way better then in Normal Mode.
On the normal daily drive going through gears that is true. But on the highway in top gear at constant speeds, the engine will use what the engine will use. Don't matter the mode
Sorda like 0-60s. Around town sport will make a difference, but at full throttle the engine will make peak power no matter what mode
@@colelockridge5816 actually on hills the transmission will stay in 10th longer . It shifts less and revs less. I find on my truck it makes the largest difference in mileage on the highway between 35 and 55 mph.
How do you engage eco mode?
@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 that makes sense. I have a cvt in my car so it's pretty obvious how it makes a difference. Eco holds revs at 2200, normal at 2500, and sport at 3500 when accelerating at the same pace
Ford makes the prettiest red paint.
Ford makes very beautiful paint all around. Had a 2013 Ford Fusion a year ago....called ford green. Almost looked like diarrhea but it was beautiful due to the flakes etc.
If it ain’t red it’s dead
Fords Race Red beautiful. Got a 2014 F-150 tremor in race red and it’s gorgeous
Owning a Tacoma, I will not test drive a Ford ranger.. I know I would love the torque and power lol
Yeah i just got a 2019 XLT ranger and dude, damn thing is fast for a 4 cylinder.
Supercharger your Tacoma and you will be happy
@@DEPOT1DEPOT1 there is not one offered for the 3rd Gen yet.. a couple of companies are supposed to release one but I don't know if it would be worth the $$$$$
Tacoma should be faster. V6 does 6.5
@@davevolz6138 6.5?
In South Africa we get a 3.2litre inline 5 Ranger wich comes with a 6 speed auto/manual, wich is extremely powerful, we also have the Ranger Raptor
That inline 5 sounds awesome.
You guys also get a deisel we do not 😪
Wow that Ranger is a beauty in red!! ❤️
Looks good from a far but it's far from good.
@@scottfurlong5475 how so?
Well I can tell you 100% I would take the Ford Ranger it’s a very capable vehicle very road worthy and with minimal upgrades quite the off-road vehicle also for decades people have use these for the Baja and off-roading with modifications great video guys
Exactly! Ford Ranger for the win!
Yup, I have a 2019 ranger and I go to work in it and offroad and it hasn't disappointed me yet. Plus half a tank is like 25- 30 bucks which is cheap for a truck.
The ranger is perfect for me
I got one and with a tune and exhaust the thing screams.
Even without a tune it's a rocket ship. My wife wants to drive it all the time for turbo noises lol
If you can get one for under $30k.
Justin Luttrell you cant get any good midsize truck for under $30
@@kevinortiz1210 Yet you can get a full size one under $26k out the door. Interesting.
You guys always put out interesting content. You keep making the vids and I will keep clicking on them
The more I see it...the more I love the Ranger! It’s a freakin rocket and still off-road capable. I’ll admit I was a a huge skeptic at the “turbo 4” in a truck, but wow....color me impressed. 😎💪🏻 (ps I wonder how the 2.0 turbo from Chrysler would fair in the Jeep, compared to the V6) in this test.
Good fun and actually confirms my thoughts before the start of the video,.....I won't say what the outcomes were, you have to watch to see, like I did! :)
I have pilot and i can concur that the honda transmission controls everything, and takes its sweet time to decide what it wants to do. Good power though, once its got shit figured out. the awd system is actually probably on of the best out here, but again, takes its sweet time figure out what to do sometimes -- eventually figures it all out though
Any way you can make it so it shifts faster
@@samoansojah3886 It would require a computer tune to adjust both the shift points to a bit higher RPM and relax the aggressive control the transmission has over the throttle. They obviously catered it all to "smoothness".
Since no one is really modding the Pilots, I don't imagine a commercial one exists. Maybe a shop with expertise in such things could do a custom one ... dunno.
too bad ... to me it just feels like wasted engine power. The 3.5vtec is a superb engine otherwise and has a nice growl to it at higher RPMs.
@@WaspMedia3D thank you I appreciate it!
Excellent test. Keep on making great videos and btw, wash your hands Lol
This test consisted of,
2 Trucks - Ford and Jeep.
1 Car - Honda
Whoa... that Gladiator is almost as fast as a Honda Ridgeline. Smh.
Lol. It's much slower
Go figure, an actual truck that weighs hundreds, if not thousands of pounds more? Weird
True, also can tell the Gladiator has higher torque at lower RPM. Gladiator is tuned to have grunt down low for offroading, while the ridgeline is tuned like a car/mid sized SUV.
@@brandonbouchez7195 Ridgeline's curb weight is between 4,242 lbs and 4,515 lbs while the Gladiator is between 4,650 lbs and 5,050 depending on trim and options. So, hundreds? Yes. Thousands? No. Both have nearly identical horsepower and torque numbers. The only real disadvantage the Ridgeline has is that its front-wheel dominant, but it's obviously not enough of a crutch to offset its weight advantage.
The 'real truck' argument really doesn't hold up. There have been unibody trucks in the past, and there will be even more unibody trucks in the future (see upcoming Ford Courier and Hyundai Santa Cruz). At the end of the day, the DMV and insurance companies consider any vehicle with an enclosed cab and an open bed with low sides and a tailgate to be a pickup truck and it must be registered and insured as such. Legally, therefore, the Ridgeline is a pickup truck. Not necessarily a 'traditional' truck, sure, but a truck nonetheless.
@@dave3682 so if weight is an argument doesn't that make a challenger a truck with a curb weight of 4000+ pounds? Unibody vehicles are great for everything but towing as the ridgeline can only tow between 3500-5000 pounds. The ridgeline would be literally be the last what you call "truck" (which it's not since they just cut the back off of a pilot and extended the frame). I'd call an expedition or any other full size and some midsize SUVs a truck before I call a ridgeline a truck. I wouldnt use the DMV for information either because they'd need a map to find their own ass
Can't break torque the Honda, gotta stab the throttle off the line. ( wife has a pilot)
Daniel Gilbert same with my wife’s Subaru ascent.
Came here to say this. Honda's ecu/trans programming kills the power when you try to brake torque, even with traction control disabled.
A lot of modern vehicles don't give you full throttle instantly when you floor it anyway.
James M GM’s 6.2 won’t go full throttle for about 2 seconds. Ford’s 6.7 diesel won’t go full throttle in the first 3 gears. Most cars today would be much quicker if it wasn’t to appease the picky consumers who want to use cheap gas and have butter smooth shift and throttle.
@@Treyk901 Some of that is to protect the drivetrain also. I do know when they were changing the tuning on the Ford Rangers they were snapping drive shafts.
The cheapest I've seen a gladiator around where I live is 38-39k. Rangers are the best value really.
Smaller than the ridgeline though
@@aronjohn84 Doesn't seem like it. The both have tiny beds and the Ridgeline is a front wheel drive based vehicle too. Nothing wrong with Honda per se, but I find their products appliance like. Lacking character/personality. Functionally they are very good. SO, if there's any difference in size, it doesn't make much difference. With the Honda too, the back doors don't open all the way, at least with some of them. There is a mod to make them open more. Shawn Smoaks did it on his. Not in the market for a truck anyway.
@@nokoolaid ah...im a ram boy so trust me. I k. The ridgeline corrected the rear doors on the 2018 2019 model. As far as the 2021 version is what I'm looking into currently. I'm extremely torn. Thanks to Obiden......and rising gas prices and God know how long that'd going to last I want something good on fuel. Granted....im still looking at the ram 18 mix 23 24 hey. I currently have a durango. Just looking to get into a truck. By anyway. I like how easier is is to change fluids on the ridgeline than the 3.6 ..funny the v8 is better than the v6. I can easily check the transmission fluid on the ridgeline. Can't on the 3.6 or the hemi. It also is more reliable. NOW...im looking at a 2018 2019 rams. They have come up in reliability which is good and love the room in the ram. So....im very very very torn on what I want. Remember..2021 ridgeline
@@aronjohn84 If I was getting a car, it would be a Challenger with some sort of hemi and a manual trans. No MDS, no sealed transmissions. I also don't like no solid connection between driver and transmission. Electronic control of the gear selection is bad. Ask the guy who played Checkov on the new Star Trek how it worked out for him. If I was getting a truck, I would probably get a Tundra or a F150 with a 5.0, but I'd lean towards the ford with a regular cab.
@@nokoolaid see that's the thing... dont care for the aluminum body's and don't care for ford's sync. I was looking at another durango with a hemi though. But if going that route I may go chevy traverse blacked out. But durango pulls more lol 😆. Omg shoot 🙃🔫 me now.
Nathan, you shaved. TfL thanks for all your real world testing. It's nice too see trucks in comparison.
I enjoyed the video. I looked up 0-60 for my new Tacoma.....it said, " eventually". It may have a lawn mower engine...I'm not sure? But it's a tough little truck. As far as mpgs....about 21. A mostly highway trip ...about 24.
I loved the two Rangers I owned but that was a long time ago. I hope the new one is decent.
Get one. You won't be disappointed. At least not in the acceleration department. It's insane. Trust me.
Yah, the Explorer Sport trac was a truck too.
Hell of a lot more of a truck than this POS. It was body on frame AND had a real rear axle and RWD
I have one with the 292hp-310trq 3v 4.6 V8 and 6spd automatic, 0-60 in mid 6 seconds all with the growl of a v8, averaging 16mpg tho 😂 but at least it cost me $8,000 and not $50,000
@@mr.boostang2064 had that year explorer 4.6 3v. Nice vehicle decently quick but my edge would destroy it
@@tybailey9428 yeah it ain't no speed demon that's for sure, what it does do is sound great under load and it can tow up to 7,200lbs which is great for a small truck.
@@mr.boostang2064 thats was my favriote thing the sound and the capacity
Always a pleasure watching you fellows put vehicles though their paces. On a more serious note, may I ask what happened to poor Nathan's leg? Feel better buddy! :) Kindly, Graham.
The old 6-speed transmission in the Ridgeline doesn't have that hesitation when you punch it from standing still.
The internet has complaints about the 9 speed. More gears are not always better.
Neither does the 9-speed if you first shift to S mode then select first using the paddle shifter.
That 9 speed is awfull. I can't believe they trust it enough to put it in a truck that may need to tow.
Should have used sand mode in the honda, it has more aggressive throttle and shift mapping and puts 70% of the power to the rear and locks the rear differential. It is a beast like that. I've surprised a few people at stop lights that way.
@@jg8263 70% to the rear and locks the differential? Really? Maybe I should use that mode in deep snow next time just to see the difference.
I like the production value here. It's getting better. Cool video, I prefer these.
Can’t take anything away from the Honda but The Ranger is the evil stepchild of the Tremor and the Raptor combined causing hate and discontent thru the truck world . Good job guys 👍🏻😎🇺🇸
It would be nice if you actually drag raced trucks at a drag strip ... for a 1/4 mile
they need to find a better place to drag race
I agree.
Jack Powell! It’s very biased towards Fords EcoBoosts with it being 1000ft above sea level.
Doc's Stim Pistol have no fear, It’d still spank them both at sea level
Doc's Stim Pistol aren’t they 5,000 feet above seal level?
My dad and I went to look at trucks in 2005 and I remember him being appalled by the pricing of trucks. When we left he told me that it was only going to get worse, and here we are with a 46k ridgeline and a 55k gladiator.
More Ridgeline please
Vehicles in general are reaching dastardly prices. I paid $52,000 for my first home in 1978
Inflation + Stagnant wages = Today's prices on well, everything.
That's a good looking Ranger
That is a race red lariat with the black pkg
The mpg was interesting for sure. The old ridgeline was a gas guzzler
Gas guzzler? Just did a trip with my 2019 Honda Ridgeline and managed 26 mpg according to the trip. I had 300 pounds of cargo at least plus the whole family (roughly 550 pounds). Highway driving, but not flat ground in the least with the longest stretch being the PA Turnpike (I-76) from Breezewood to I-376.
Mmmm not so sure. I have a RL 2010 and has better mileage than v6 tacoma.
@@FrancoCastro that's not saying much though lol that's like saying its faster than a Toyota Yaris. I'm sure both of those are true, but compared to fullsize ram hemi & silvy 6.0L of those years even got better mileage, hp, towing, room, price etc. Don't get me wrong I'm one of the few that liked the 1st gen Ridgeline but so many factors just made it not a good choice. New model seemed to improve greatly in all areas ,besides appearance.
@@UltraSS-nj8kd My brothers work truck is a 15 Ram 1500 4x4 with the V6 & 8 speed trans. He runs around with a 100gal diesel tank and tool box in the bed. I have a 10 Ridgeline and the best highway mileage I've received was 10.1L/100km (23.3 US mpg)......his best is 8.9L/100km (26.4 USmpg). Considering the size difference, considering the Ram engine is 300+hp compared to the Honda at 250hp, considering his truck is loaded down and mine was empty, I have a hard time not wanting to replace my Honda with a Ram. But I still love the Ridgeline.
@@codeman99-dev You don't have the old ridgeline. I'm guessing you figured that out.

So what makes it a truck?
They call it one. They called the PT cruiser a car but it was also classified a truck. People can call things and themselves whatever they want but it won't change what they are.
So as you left the track to check fuel economy the Jeep was in front and as you arrived the Jeep was still in the front. Could part the fuel economy difference be from the Jeep breaking the wind while the others drafted??
The Ridgeline did not *look* 2 seconds 0-60 faster than the Gladiator in the race itself (they looked pretty close) but then seeing the Solo DL time at the end blew my mind... "that's a 2-second difference?!"
I love the Ranger
I think it's adorable how emotionally engaged some get over truck brands, like it's core to your identities. Is this comment section full of the engineers that designed the vehicles? Must be.

Some expensive midsize trucks
I have a new Ranger. It's a base XLT with no options. Sticker was $31k, but with all the rebates and discounts, I was out the door for about $26k. I bought it labor day weekend as hurricane Dorian was bearing down on Florida. The dealer was literally boarding up their windows while I was in the showroom. Labor day weekend is supposed to be a big sales event, but instead the dealership was a ghost town. The sales manager put everything on fire sale, so I got employee pricing.
All the RUclips reviewers crow about how expensive the Ranger is, but optioned correctly and purchased at the right time... It's a great deal!
@@a2d thanks. So now we all have to wait for the next hurricane bearing down on a Ford dealership and hope our luck goes the same as yours to get a deal!
@Bill Madd It's a 4x2. I don't need 4wd because I live in Florida where winter and hills aren't a thing and I don't go offroading. I mostly use it for hauling.
Just bought my ‘19 lariat 4x4 with rear locker for $32k. Bought used from Carmax with 22k miles on it. Dollar for dollar you can’t beat the ranger.
@@a2d Yeah, I got my XL FX-4 for $34k. Reviewers review the top of the line luxury truck and act like that's what they all cost.

Notafrkin mini van ....
I was just reading the 2020 Ridgeline Owner's Manual and I found out you did a drag race without using the top gear. Basically 'S-Mode' is the equivalent of turning off overdrive. Here's the relevant info found on page 388 of the Owner's Manual:
Each time you press the D/S button, the mode switches between Drive and S position mode.
Drive Position
[is for]
● Normal driving (gears change between 1st and 9th automatically)
● Temporarily driving in the sequential mode
S-Position
[NOTE: they never use the word 'Sport']
[is for]
● Automatically changing gears between 1st and 8th (8th gear is used only at high speed)
● Driving in the sequential mode
And from what I've learned so far, other Honda models with active suspension systems can have the suspension behavior changed by switching to S-Mode. I'm curious to know if the Ridgeline changes anything besides the throttle response and shift points in S-Mode. I think it should give a little more rear-wheel bias on the AWD. I'm just speculating about that though.
The Owner's Manual does recommend S-Mode when towing a trailer up steeper hills, and I imagine that engine braking would be better going down steep hills in S-Mode. Both modes allow for paddle shifter inputs at any time (as long as the computer stays happy).
I look forward to seeing the rematch where you use all the available gears of the Ridgeline. Especially the high gear. This really wasn't a fair race with the drive mode you selected. If I find any other computer tweaks that maximize drag race or towing performance I'll probably come back and edit this comment or make a reply to it.
I will add one more thing here real quick. I THINK that by revving the engine before the launch you may have made the computer 'think' it was on a hill and it applied the parking brake to prevent rollback. That's a complete guess though. I haven't searched "drag launch setting for 2020 ridgeline" or other similar terms yet. I'm sure someone has played with everything and probably figured it out.
The ranger is almost 2 seconds quicker to 60 than my 2wd frontier
55 mph to 70mph ?
The results may surprise you.
I need to pass on the highway not pull out in front of traffic..
In Maine it’s 40 to 80!

For real. Idk why people focus on 0-60 so much
Those turbo charged engines perform best at higher speeds..torque rules on the top end, not horsepower
@@roadgliderocketss8368 Other way around. Torque rules off the line performance and pulling. High horsepower is better top end performance hence why Sports cars are always tuned to favor HP over TQ.
@@DragonKnightX12 , that has not been my experience with deisels, slow of the line and good top end. Especially on older diesels.

Technically it’s an SUV, mid size truck and crossover
When I worked for Honda we couldn’t give away Ridgeline’s
If it was designed like the old one it would worth buying. I can't stand the cockpit or the front end styling
When I saw the redesigned Ridgeline I decided to keep my 2008 RIDGELINE.
Now I'm looking at Nissan Frontiers.
Is Honda still the King of backseats? I haven't seen much regarding the Gladiator's backseat.
Let's not forget elbow room the new Ford ranger hits my arm when I close the door
Yep ridgeline still largest cab and bed in segment. It's like the transverse engine is better space packaging than longitudinal and unibody offers better interior space due to not accommodating a frame (looking at you Tacoma). Great for mid sized truck, but admittedly not full sized. I think in a few years the mid sizes will mostly be like the honda, given the upcoming Ford maverick and Hyundai santa cruz.
Damn. That Ranger goes like scalded cat.😀
I'm shocked! The turbocharged engine beat the NA engines in a 0-60 race 5000 ft above sea level. Who would have thought? ;-)
Steven Rhodes probably faster at sea level too....
Turbo is always faster at high elevations...
@@erikturner8687 - the NA engines definitely would be. I imagine the difference won't be quite as big for the Ranger. Turbochargers can compensate for a lot. Come to think of it, I've not seen a dyno test of a Ford Ecoboost that far above sea level. It would be interesting how close it comes to making it's rated hp and torque up there. In the video, they said the Ranger was between the Honda and Jeep in rated hp and higher than both of them in rated torque so the end results, like you suggest, may well be the same but I promise it'll be a lot closer!

Very happy with my 2019 Ridgeline. Great all round vehicle. Especially, with the cabin, tailgate, trunk, and bed. It's more reliable and cheaper than the competition with nearly same or better performance.
A car vs. a turbo-charged truck vs. a 5,100 lb. offroad machine. Seems fair...
I wouldn't call MPG results from the "Trip Computer" real world results. In your own videos you know that the trip meters are off by some. Once you know what the consistent results are for a given vehicle you can estimate what the real mileage is. I have seen on some of my vehicles that the trip meter can read up to 3 MPG better than the actual mileage I was getting. Thus I have a fairly low confidence rating for trip computer MPG.
"Spank you like a red headed stepchild! Classic, lol
Fair enough, I love my Ranger Raptor
Something I'd really like to see is a drag race with a trailer. Between similar trucks like these but also between heavy dutys and 1/2 tons, or even mid-size. Obviously the f150 typically runs away in a drag race with the much heavier f250 or 350, or a similar gm/ram with just the truck itself. Did you know that 90% of all Chevy trucks are still on the road?
The other 10% made it home
The Ridgeline is NOT a truck. lol Oh.. Nathan you just said what I was writing...lmao. The Ridgeline is a car with an open trunk. lol Anyhow, there is nothing to add here. Except I would take the Ford every day of the week. But maybe the Gladiator for weekends.(as long as I had a reliable vehicle following along)
I cant wait to see the real world pump to pump on those 3. Even though the Gladiator is a long term test. I want to see if the mpg changes.
The Ridgeline MPG meter is a crap shoot at best. Probably one of the least accurate cars I've ever owned. Not sure about the others. Mine can be +/- 2 MPG compared to computing at the fill up. Still like it though.
Come on Andre, you should be an eco-boost lover by now with all you've seen from Five Star tuning ?
No no no... If you're talking about mpg you had to do the mpg loops. The 100 loop, ok?!
@TheFastLaneTruck Just waiting for the drag race between the Ranger and Colorado. Can't find one anywhere!
Don’t worry in the future if you can’t get a ridgeline just get the pilot it’s the same damn thing. The turbo in Ranger is very good and a good compromise. The Jeep has Rolls Royce power “Its Adequate”. Good comparison gentlemen!!
Ford is king!👑💪🏽
Off road the Ford is Garbage!!!! It's like comparing that New Bronco to any Jeep... Ford's Suck!!! LoL
Ford is king of the 💩pile
@@mikefoehr235 so is your dad and he had you so that makes u the prince of 💩🤔😭
It's amazing how many people think the name "Jeep" means tough off-road vehicle. They're junk. My '69 Bronco 302 is tough. Jeep's are over priced junk.
1LOCKNLOAD if it makes you feel better I had some dude tell me his Jeep could take sharper turns on a track and have better lap times than a GTR and NSX on Iap times on insta lmao
My 2020 ford ranger xlt has the same engine as the FX4 its awsome! By far faster then expected. My XLT can out speed a Tacoma TRD Pro, A GMC Canyon, Honda Ridgeline, older big Trucks and 4 cyl cars. The 4 cyl eco boost is really great turbo charged. I can go 0 to 100 in comfort and enjoy that turbo even if its small. I smack Tacomas and there V 6 and i do it all saving gas lol Im impressed with ford. I have owned a 1998 Ranger xlt 2 wheel drive v6. A 2001 Ford ranger XLT manual V6 2 wheel. A 2005 Ford rangee Xlt 4x4 automatic old orange highway truck. Had over 300,000 on it and still starts. Now my 2020 is a whole new animal. Feels more like a full size truck with some of the benifts of a mid size. City driving is great compared to a f150 or full size. The fact I can go 0 to 60 in less then 8 seconds helps lol. Im so happy i didnt buy a 2017 Tacoma TRD pro for more then i paid for a new 2020 ranger. Yes its not the fx4 but shares the engine and tow power. I wake up in the morning and I wanna go to work for the drive no joke. My Ranger makes me proud to have stuck by The rangers cult like following. 2020 was the pay off for all those who loved thr brand
TFL does the best tests.. No doubt about that!!!!
Why is that minivan on TFL Truck? 🤔
Shawn Levin I can’t speak about the current gen Ridgeline, but the original (2006) was a cut up MDX.. there is a video of how they (Honda) made the transformation. Pretty cool actually.
Why does that minivan tow and haul more than the Jeep truck in this video???????
Still waiting for new gas 3/4 ton drag race !!! Come guys !
Props to my man wearing the Vikings hat. SKOL!!
When are y'all posting the off road comparison for these 3?
Unless you use the paddle shifter on the Honda it starts out in 2nd gear. It hesitates if you floor it from the line until it finds 1st.
Everyone is saying that the Ridgeline is a minivan with the back cut off, well I don’t think your mom’s Dodge Caravan has a torque vectoring system
that can send up to 70% of the power to the rear and 100% either side...
At our altitude, the Jeep 2.0L turbo 4 walks away from the 3.6L V6. Shame I don't think Jeep offers it at all in the Gladiator, though.
It's not the trip meter, you have to reset the mpg meter...correct?
Otherwise you can skew the mpg very easily by one guy usually driving Highway and the other guy usually driving City/lead foot before the test.
I'm with Nathan...that Honda is about as much a truck as the Subaru Brat was!!! N O T!!!!!!!!
I have a feeling Honda is going to put a turbo 4 in next gen Ridgeline
Was the gladiator on 2 wheel drive?
I think can only lock in when 4x4 in dirt but if jeep was AWD it would have beat Ridgeline
@@brianmodum5312 you have a point. Idk I personally have a Jeep GC with the penstar and yes it's not fast but with the 4x4 it does pull a little when you floor it
i might lease a ranger for 2 years then buy a Bronco when the 2nd year models come out. Always have loved my Ford vehicles
Ranger drove out of the Honda’s life
Honda will still be driving hundreds of thousands of miles after the Ford is in the junkyard, though.
We're still relatively early in the world of high-volume turbocharged engines from Ford, and I don't trust that 2.3 to last like I would a V6 of similar power.
@@RyanKiefer No...LOL it won't. Ford is up there with toyota and honda etc. Ford is just as reliable if not more than honda at the least. Got 900000 miles on my 02. Got 300000 on my 2010 f150. Ford has been doing ecoboosts for a while and it's actually not new to them...interesting thought process, though.
@@PrivateBeeBop - I kind of agree with you. Back in the 90's and early 2000's...Toyota and Honda walked all over every domestic brand with regards to reliability. But in the last 5 years or so...the bean counters finally got a hold of Honda and Toyota as well, sadly. I'm not sure Ford is better than Honda...but I can confidently say that the playing field is fairly level today with reliability. I knew someone would chime in on Clint's comment like that. But it's true that EB's have been around a while. They started designing them in the mid 2000's and started putting them in vehicles over 9 years ago. There are many examples of even the early versions lasting well into the 300-400 thousand mile territory. There are those saying a turbo engine won't last as long. That could have some truth but turbos have been around many decades...and diesels have been running them for hundreds of thousands of miles. Every generation of EB gets better and the current ones are pretty darn good. My wife bought an Escape with the tiny motorcycle-sized 1.5 liter EB and that thing is quick for such a tiny little power plant. And even though Ford was early on turbos like the EB...every brand is going that direction so competition will only make them all better in the long run.
Ryan Kiefer well I don’t trust ANY automatic that Honda makes. They made absolute fools of themselves producing the odyssey with the most failure prone transmission in the minivan industry. Their automatics take a back seat to Toyota any day. The accords and civics both had high failure rates. And the k series is nothing special with its timing chain failures either. Now Honda’s dealing with oil dilution issues. All cars have issues these days. No manufacturer is truly safe. But that ranger really did sail straight out of the pilots life. Considering most cars are not in use more than 200k I think the ranger will be fine. Especially considering that 10 speed was built for a much heAvier truck and the 2.3 is in multiple applications.
Brandon Petek An 02 Ranger? They had engines made by Mazda and Mitsubishi. No turbos either. This four banger currently in the new Ranger was a total POS in the Escape over the past few years. No long term results quite yet with the new Ranger.
Ecoboost need a few thousand miles before there peak mileage and you have to stay out of the turbo. That’s hard to do, it’s too much fun.
Great mashup👍🏾
Great video, results just as expected. That being said no one buys a Gladiator based on these factors- its really still in a class by itself.
All three are very different. That's what makes it interesting.
Testing at higher elevations is always going to benefit the forced induction vehicles. It's still a relevant test, but the majority of the continent lives at far lower elevations where the NA vehicles will see a big improvement (they're down about 20% power at 1 mile of elevation). And yes, don't brake torque the Honda. Honda's torque management for transmission protection has been ridiculously conservative since their 5spd AT failures.
Lol Do people actually still buy the ridgeline ?? ima jump onboard the whole "it doesnt have a frame so its not a truck" wagon ..
J D yeah it has a cult following for the people that don’t need to hide behind their egos and know when a vehicle is perfectly suitable to fit their needs.
Alan Bowers
Well said.
Alan Bowers so grandparents
J D if you mean individuals who may have the most wisdom and the least care for their vanity, then yes.
@@ALMX5DP people say that about stock Jeeps though which sucks. Some people don't need to ford deep rivers in their Jeep and they get made fun of for it being stock lol
Nathan, as a red headed step child I am totally offended!!! 😂👍
I love Andre's stopping face
The Ranger is nice. Optioned out it costs wayyyyy too much. Is Andre the guy who says ‘duet’ for dude?
