    went to florida to see my grandson graduate from the police academy, later my son takes us out, we end up at a bar and my boy wants to play darts with me. i am 67 , he is 46 and we believe we can beat each other in anything. i knew i was way out on a limb with darting. he walks me through the process and in turn whipping my ass. my wife gave it a shot but quit right away as she did not like people watching her. we got back to colorado and i ordered a sisal board and will be getting it april 18th. i'm excited, my wife is excited and since we are both retired we can go and toss multiple times per day. watching your videos is giving me a good foundation with arm placement and muscle memory and i am a firm believer in muscle memory being a martial artist. i called my kid and told him to expect some different competition the next time we get together. thanks for putting these videos together. Lars

    Just started darts 2 weeks ago. Great instruction. Looks alot easier than it is. Definitely requires patience. So many things to conscious about. Like the muscle memory. When i bring my arm up my elbow is out a little and than bring it in anticipating it will be automatic after a while. Notice a difference in the cheapy 18g darts that came with board than the 24g darts i bought at the dart store

    Your style is working very good for me. "Throwing through the board" is the advice that always helps my follow through when I find it going awry.
    I have experienced better flow/momentum, and more stacking opportunities, and overall better accuracy because of your advice. This video is the one that got me there.

    When i began learning the basics of Darts it was frustrating it would land all over the board. I began watching watching the different styles of stances and release took me awhile then i perfected to my satisfaction by playing clock wise 1-20 the same for doubles and trebles, now i enjoy playing feeling like Robin Hood. Great Video, Peace.

    I noticed how Luke humphries while winning the recent world championship would look at the board, keep his eyes locked on where he was aiming, and then slide his lead foot forward up to oche without taking his eyes off the board .
    Instead of looking down to see where he was placing his lead foot .
    Obviously, this helped him as a fundamental and consistent routine.

    Biggest tip you had IMO is not caring when the dart hits (yet). During the follow through practice, do you try to hold it pointing at the board? A drill I try to do is on the follow through count to 2 while keeping my arm pointed at the board so when it comes to actual darts it hopefully has the muscle memory of not falling.

    I always recommend the practice games called 28, and 420.
    28- 1 visit at each cricket number and the goal is to get 28 points in the end. Comes out to scoring 4 on each number (or however your luck goes) my record is 24. Ive added my own twist where after i play through, i go backwards (B up to 20) only shooting at those doubles (which are Cricket Doubles) so now i call this game 28 CD’s
    -420 is a doubles practice game where you have only 1 visit per number, and you shoot at double 1, then D2, D3 and so on all the way up to 20 and then Bull.
    I like to play cricket afterwards, and then 501 after that (to see how that practice has helped). So for me, one round of practice is playing all 4 of these games.
    Cheers! And lets go CHAMP MICHAEL SMITH!!! BULLY BOY FOR THE WIN!!!

    Love the steel tip dart videos for some reason I just can’t get into the plastic tip game even though it’s more convenient to have real life players consistently I just can’t get into it the same?
    My ex girlfriend would throw a Robin Hood often im not even joking every couple of days but she throws left handed she don’t follow through but she is good really good. 3 years ago I would literally beat her 50 60 times in a row she never quit never wanted pitty a true student of the art of darts except the fact she WILL NOT LISTEN TO MY ADVICE.. I tend to do that also...along with every other possible wrong thing you can ever possibly do. Idk what happened, but this last season was so horrible I was ready to quit. Playing cricket, I actually walked up on my first throw and closed bull, and on my second turn...hit a 6, a 12 and missed the entire frigin board with my last dart. It's like I had a seizure between turns. Or in 301, I get in on my first throw then take 30 darts to get out.

    Quick question. I've always got a low and right dart in me, and it comes randomly. I can go T20 T20 and then skinny 18, seemingly without changing anything, but surely something is happening to throw that differently. How do you recognise what it is you're doing wrong in those situations? What do you do to rectify it? Darts throwing happens so quickly with minute changes in the body that are imperceptible. How do you amplify the signal and listen to your body?

    • @IronmanDarts
      @IronmanDarts  6 месяцев назад

      Clearly, I don’t have it dialed in because I’m not a professional, but I try to treat each dart individually and do my best not to let the previous start distract me, and focus on two or three mechanical elements per throw. And that can be the follow through, it could be finishing with my finger down and it could be throwing through the dartboard. If I have a dart that veers off two or three fingers wide, I know it’s because I lost focus on one of those three elements. Every dart counts, so even one simple distraction, or lack of focus can be the difference between a triple 20 and a triple one.

I was throwing religious 90-100 average day in day out until I lost my big sister to cancer, I then was throwing mere 60-70 average. 8 years later I'm back to hitting 80+ average and I feel my mental state is back to what it used to be I just need to put the hours on the board as I did before then the averages should be back to being respectable.

    My inconsistency comes down to my drawback. It is very short. I simply seem to stress it a bit too much. Any advice on that?
    Keep up the good work!

    Bro I’ve been playing for 3 months and I still suck it makes no sense I can’t learn to throw at all it’s so aggravating, I just wanna be half decent, I’ll throw 3 20’s then miss completely or hit the 25 bull 2 times of 3 and then miss completey , I just don’t get how to hold a dart at all

      Who do you know locally that can watch you in person and give you pointers? Who's one of the top 10 players in your local league. Pay them $50, buy them a beer and spend an hour working together?

    Tentatively, provided I get the nod from Ironman, To me breaking bad habits has to do with speed. You've got a new routine now, slow everything down., Like Jay Leno said to comedians on the tonight show, if you think you're going too slow, go slower. Provided you're practicing and not shooting with your buddies in a pub.

    Grouping is alright ye but if you group on youre target no point having 6 darts at double 18 and missing all 6 but lovely grouping and the bloke behind you on double tops for the match

    Been practicing alot with soft tips it's been good and I've only been playing for about 5 months but I'm in a league for soft tip and I shoot a 17-20 points per dart in 501 just having trouble finding what's comfortable and consistent witch makes me throw all over the board sometimes.

    Just try one time to set your body position blind try at zero force to the body. Like people who learn precision shooting 😉

    right about the follow through, but your body as way too much movement during your throw and too much head movement

    I'd be interested to know why you think there are no American giants in darts? Most bars have a board, yet its dominated by Europeans.

      @@IronmanDarts no, you get me wrong. I'm asking your opinion on as to why there are no American darts giants? It's extremely popular and there are some good US and Canadian players. I just wondered what your opinion on why there are no North American darts megastars?

    • @IronmanDarts
      @IronmanDarts  Год назад +1

      I think we have a handful but I'm not sure why they're not more popular? Maybe it's because Baseball, Football and Basketball are the big sports in America? The challenge will continue to be Pubs and Bars. Kids and young people can easily play and practice the big 3 without having to go to a bar or pub. Yes, there's online but it's not the same. It's a good topic.

    1 hrs good practice is worth 10 years bad practice., the trick is being able to identify whats preventing you from pitching good darts, I will tell you confidence and good psychology is 80% of good darts, and 20 % practice. You can hit whatever at home the real work is doing it in public under pressure same with any sport really mind set, belief in winning and being okay with failure.

      I agree... playing in public is where you can really get better. I'm starting to make that a habit in 2023.

    Just to clarify, a bullseye is the red circle worth 50 points and the outer green is worth 25 points. You said you had 3 bulls at the end but you only hit the outer green so you didn't get not even a single bull as the red circle only us a bullseye. The green is just 25 points. Not sure this is an American thing but in the UK the red only is whats called a bullseye
