I really love your super chilled method in these videos. It's like watching a video a buddy who's better at darts than you made to help you understand. It's still high quality, precise and, excuse the pun, to the point but it's just got that friendly feel to it.
@@tatsdgreat8886 I caused me to let go of the dart at the end of my follow through, instead of releasing 3/4 of the way through. That gave me a repeatable follow through and allowed me to make it muscle memory. When I felt I had the stroke I was comfortable with I was able to practice normal distance. The object isn't to actually hit anything persay just to get a comfortable follow through because you have to throw it harder. I hope this explains it better and I apologize my original post was vague. If you're still confused please reach out again.
The short stroke you described is and has been my bane. Sneaks up and keeps reappearing. You answered my question when you transitioned from 20 to 19. Was thinking about that last night if I should keep the elbow parallel to the ground. I notice you from going N to S of the bullseye, your elbow remained the same. Thank you for that
Your grip is exactly like mine, your stance and your game as a result is much like mine as well. You just popped up in my feed about a week ago so it's cool and a bit of validation to find someone who's form and game is like mine. I subscribed mainly because you seem like a very grounded and cool guy and I just think your videos are down to Earth and connect with all those newbies trying to find their game......and I still pick up a thing or two from you as well. I'm 55 and always learn something new. Thanks for your work and keep doing what you're doing brother 👌
My Dart Board set just arrived today. It is my first time to play this game. Then I found your video. I tried it. It's very accurate, thank you. It helps me a lot. Now I can hit the bullseye 😊
Never thought about this too much. Your index and thumb are directly across from each other. My grip is very similar but I have my index and middle finger on top and the thumb in between them. It sort of makes a triangle. It's how I've thrown for years so it just feels natural and stable. Cheers
You nail it every time on the advice, well done!! I've noticed that licking my fingers while eating or drinking makes the grip vary (unless it's water), so best to avoid that.
That is exactly how i hold my dart, it took many throws due to the dart landing low or high. i placed the edge of the middle finger at the slope of darts barrel which joins the point and this made a great difference where the dart lands I also feel it's not as much about the stands but more of the point of release is it eye level, nose level or chin level. Peace.
Follow through is absolutely needed but as you play you will notice yourself following through worst things to do is overthinking things like follow through because instead of focusing on your target your more focused on that follow through hand and extension I do it one motion like so relax were I hold the dart like a feather it's just smooth and relax not tence but love these videos keep them coming buddy peace out 👌👌
The grip is the most unique thing in darts imo. Most important thing is it feels comfortable. For new players starting however they hold a pencil is a good starting point. There is no standardised way of holding dart, all the top pros all hold all minds of different ways. Tip for developing that follow through, point at something with no dart in your hand. Point your index finger at a spot on the wall or something, extending your arm when doing so.
Solid stuff. Keep’ em coming, Dave! Btw, all board manufacturers (definitely Anarchid, GranBoard, and DartsLive 200s), with the exception of target, recommend not using darts heavier than 20g total weight. Those darts look possibly like 22-23g, which may be a reason behind your Gran3 getting beat. Should weigh your darts, if heavier than 20g you may want to consider the Nexus board for your next purchase (which I’m so excited to see 😊 - you should do a big reveal whenever you replace your board).
Great insight again m8. Your throw looks so solid and smooth and defo something for me to work on. Keep up the content Mo Chara and until next time Adios 🎯🇮🇪
What I'm interested in is the angle between the dart barrel and the palm of the hand. I've not seen a video with it. My guess is having that angle smaller would improve accuracy.
I like your grip. Mine is similar, but I haven't been putting my middle finger on top. I think I will try your grip and see if it works. Currently, I feel like there is something not quite right with my grip as the darts will wobble sometimes.
Can you do a video on stacking and when you should move your stance to shoot I’ve been playing for about 10 yrs off and on the last yr I’ve been serious about it I’m not getting any better
I've talked about stacking in a previous video... I don't remember which one but it does come up in my Medley matches and Cricket tips. Ive been making small adjustments to my stance based on the number I'm aiming for... I've also talked about that in recent videos. I appreciate the feedback.
A couple of methods to make your board last. 1/ Spin the dart as you remove it and you will find that the bristle does not pull as easily as a straight pull, also don't grab three darts and yank them out all together, guaranteed board wrecker. 2/ rotate your board frequently, I worked out a pattern which promotes even wear. You just have to give it a little thought !!
I kind of grip the same but since I'm still a kind of a newbie I'm getting used to it. However, my one problem and hopefully you can answer this pain in the butt issue is my dart at times drop off the board, would this be because my follow is dragging downward or I'm letting the dart go too late, it's so frustrating in a game, I'll be doing well then "drop", let along embarrassing. I might be still new but I should know how to keep the dart on the board.
Imagine throwing THROUGH the number. Imagine the target is 1-2 inches BEHIND the board. It sounds like you're not throwing with the same effort each time. You should throw with the same force each time.
i think you might be more accurate if your stance was a bit upright head level in line with your toes,i use the same grip and my darts land straight.thanks for the tips
Question. Do you feel any difference when throwing soft tip vs. your conversion steel tip? 🤷🏻♂️ I feel it somehow affects my throw and I’m trying not do anything different.
I was gonna ask the same question. I've had mine for about a month and it's holding up great. I'm still only like a 30-40 avg player so I'm not really stressing one area more than others, but I love it
My finger tips are very dry and smooth so gripping has always been an issue. Tried the licking, found it very inconsistent, wax caused a build up. Then decided to try rosin, the same type as when i pitch fast pitch soft ball. Great improvement. A few years ago found the rosin that rock climbers used. You buy it by the block and crush it, for me it is the perfect solution. Very fine consistency, no build-up. and a consistent grip. Also a side benefit, at the dart shop the small, plastic bag of rosin costs 3-4 dollars, Cdn. The brick of rosin was 5-6 but recently went up to 10 dollars, but a brick will last for years.
I've been practicing for about 6 month's and still haven't found a consistent grip or technique. I find I'm tensing, almost like I'm holding my breath,I can't stop doing it. Because I've noticed if I stare at my target and really focus I get success, but seems like I run out of focus after 1 throw! If I relax, my focus doesn't seem as powerful.
I can tell you why your last granboard quit working. The weight of your dart is the root to your evil. You shouldn’t throw anything over 20 grams. If you’ve heard of an event called BullShooter you are not allowed there with darts over 20 grams either it’s because of the board. You risk breaking and damaging the board (which we’ve seen with your last board it was the case) the weight doesn’t make a huge difference some of the best soft tip players in the world play with 16 and even 14 gram darts. Keep up the good work man!

i once had a pro player recommend standing 1-2 feet back from the line to practice follow through. That one tip made the world of difference.

Question. Do you feel any difference when throwing soft tip vs. your conversion steel tip? 🤷🏻♂️

It’s probably an issue of weight distribution, the front of the dart might be heavier which will throw off the flight path of the dart?
