HAM: A Musical Memoir starring Sam Harris | Trailer

HAM captures Sam Harris's critically acclaimed, multiple-award-winning live stage show in which Harris plays himself at various ages - as well as ten other characters. The show is based on Harris’s popular book, “HAM: Slices of a Life.” We follow the true story of Sam Harris’s life growing up in Oklahoma’s bible belt during the 1960's and 70's as a 'sissy boy' who dreams of playing Helen Keller at age 5, wishes he was Jewish at 10, finds his voice in the black church at 15 and falls in love with a boy “who looks just like Cary Grant” followed by a depression that leads to a suicide attempt. At age 16, Sam flees to Los Angeles where, after singing at every dump and dive in town, finally ends up on a new TV show called Star Search (precursor to American Idol) winning the hearts of America. Fame ensues Broadway, television, platinum records, Carnegie Hall. But for Sam, less is…less. And more is never enough. After the highs and lows of a life in show business, Sam is finally forced to confront the merciless question: what is enough? With a score made up of original and well-known songs, HAM is the journey of a life lived at a time when being true to oneself was impossible on the outside and dangerous on the inside. Armed with the tools of talent and sheer chutzpa to survive, Harris ultimately travels an arc of personal triumph and inspiration by finding love, having a family, and learning what actually is enough.
