you are talking to a heavily brainwashed moron. you have convinced him that trump is bad, but in 12 hours he'll move back to his echo chamber and be sucking up lies not caring about real. I'VE BEEN THERE.
Ignorant is not an insult or cruel word to use, it literally means uninformed. If I asked someone about how to play cricket I could say that I’m very ignorant on the subject because I have no idea how to play cricket. It’s not an insult.
Jesus christ, I just realized that I, as a swede, living in Sweden, with no affiliation to the US whatsoever, know more about Trump than a Trump-supporter.
It's not hard to learn more about Trump than his supporters. They have 1 mode: Take in everything he or his people say, get really good and reciting only that, and then everything else is wrong.
This young man is the epitome of a Trump supporter: all opinion, little information. At least he's listening, and doesn't immediately dismiss information that challenges his opinions. Now if we could get all the others to do the same....
😂😂😂😂😂 you people genuinely have no idea how insanely ironic you all are lolololololol. How do you see what’s happening to this country and the world and say, yes, more of that please
Actually he’s not. Many of the MAGA folk when confronted with facts double down. He is more of a center right rational person who was algorithmically entrenched in MAGA propaganda and now that he’s exposed to rational left wing arguments outside of the bubble is willing to change his mind.
This guy was open, far from the usual Trump voter you see on YT or on tv. For the trump voter it's all about emotion, that emotion being hate. This is intelligent and he just didn't know what's going on.
Honestly, kudos to both: the interviewer for humbly admitting his ignorance about mostly everything, David for not being arrogant or humiliating the kid.
I agree completely -- Sean was open and willing to listen; David was not condescending or lecturing, but instead kindly mentoring. But Sean's professed low information about so many issues that one would think a supporter should know about their chosen candidate is so telling, as is the fact that he has never voted. I think it in part goes to the recent emphasis on STEM classes, which are important, but the declining focus on Civics and history education in public school. When I was a high school student in the seventies in my county, we had a full year class on Civil government. Today in this county, the students have only a semester class. I hope this visit with David will shape Sean's research habits going forward.
This particular kid seems less contaminated. That is new...If he became aggressive with the insane party line I would vote him into the dumpster. He is one in a hundred. So far.
We were taught Trump supporters are really this informed. It's insane to me that in the era of Trump we have had to actually take these people seriously. Packmans patients teaches us how to manage these people. There is no choice but to have to address these people unfortunately is what I have learned over the last 8 years. Btw, I get you mean it was a teachable moment for this guy.
@@ironicirony2938Maybe I'm too cynical, but I don't think that will happen. This kid won't research, and will go back to his ignorant way of thinking as soon as the cult bombards him with lies, which he will believe.
@@charlesedward5047 It doesn't matter if he actually ends up researching what David has said. We can't just give up. We got to keep trying to get the truth out. If we don't, democracy will die. At least this was a civil discussion. Don't forget that old saying; "You catch more flies with honey, than with vinegar."
I couldn't make it pass on the first 10min but he seems more new to this and a victim of the con and misinformation rather than being willfully ignorant like most MAGAts.
@@TPG1 Ignorant isn't necessarily the personal attack you think it is...I understand some people use it as a pejorative, but at base it just means lacking knowledge or awareness on a particular subject...in fact I've seen plenty of people who are highly intelligent refer to themselves as ignorant on certain topics, because they are actually intellectually honest, and dont want to attempt to speak as if they're knowledgeable on something they are not...basically the exact opposite of Trump and a lot of his supporters.
More like that’s what it means to be a great Teacher lol. The Young man will be thankful to David all his life for patiently and graciously educating him in this manner.
this is a great way to accomplish this! David is educating and presenting these 'arguements' in a logical and approachable manner. his calm attitude and willingness to have a calm conversation and back and forth is so refreshing. This is wonderful to show people.
Has nothing to do with education. Has to do with GRIFTING. Most of these grifters know that they’re spewing BS, but there are people literally PAYING them to spew it. If someone is paying you to be a Trump / conservative culture influencer, then that’s your job. And you do it like any other job. Ask Dave Rubin.
David reasons & delivers facts. Interesting is the Military equipment that has to be sold out. Does it influence starting wars to sell them ? Also the algorithm - Ai influence on the opinion. Knowing the real facts would change the general opinion.
@@errollkleinwassink8847sooooo many people don’t know that most of what Ukraine gets from us is old equipment. It should make a difference to those that don’t want so much money going overseas. Especially considering it’s a triple win for us. We get rid of stuff that would be junked, we’re protecting democracy without actually going to war AND we are paying our people to make new equipment to replace what’s sent to Ukraine! It’s creating or at least keeping more people working here at home. I cannot fathom wanting to stop supporting Ukraine, at minimum, in this manner.
Exactly right. Incredibly respectful and leaning on a confidence in his preparation. Pakman could run for office with his rare brand of candor and preparation.
The kid is beyond ill informed but seemed to be willing to listen. I just don’t get how he has a show or an audience unless this is the only time he’s talked politics on his channel.
I like the fact that Sean Kelly was willing to listening instead of rebuking David Pakman. Kudos to Sean and David for having this discussion in a way that the listeners were able to enjoy the interview.
Everyone is ragging on this young man, but he's the smartest Trump supporter I've seen. He was honest about what he didn't know, he listened to David's point of view and was open to learning. If more of them had this mindset, the political climate would not be so combative, imo.
He was polite and non-combative I agree. I would wait and see if any of his views were changed or was he just nodding and saying he would look into things that were brought up to avoid having to engage in a back and forth. I would see if his future interviews with people on the right who discuss these same topics are any different than what he has done in the past.
The fact that he chose ANY side despite his admitted level of ignorance then started a podcast knowing that he’s ignorant on the subject is what’s disturbing. It’s arrogant ignorance to do all that.
I'm an economics professor. Thank you for correctly explaining the impact of tariffs. You would have likely received an A on the exam I'm about to give my class
He was correct on all his arguments, but I wish he would have been more clear and on point on how it impacts the price of consumer end products and drives inflation. That's the key issue people care about and vote based on.
@@marcuskissinger3842 He could have also explained why Trump thinks tariffs will positively influence the export deficit (as exporters might have to lower their prices to stay competitive despite the added tariffs). I think Trump's approach is not a good one, i.e., I'm against tariffs, but at least there is a theory as to why they could work to address an export deficit and create some income for the government. It does not seem warranted to insinuate that Trump does not know how tariffs work at all.
Im black. There's this "thing" going around that blacks support Trump. I was surprised to discover one being my nephew (under educated, easily influenced by opposite world) and my brother (ex con, also ignorant to politics and easily influenced in opposite world)... Say that to say, the like-minded company that they keep, are NOT voters.🤷 My nephew is surrounded by ignorami that repeat the brainwashed mantra "I don't care, my vote won't count anyways!...same breath, "trump really did do a lot for black people " 🤦 My bro, "aye, he stole those documents cuz he was gonna expose the hollywood cannibals that were listed in those documents...i hope he wins the next election" 😒 Me: can't convince them...but they don't vote anyway...😑
They're young and will eventually start voting at the very least may one day. These are the Joe Rogan/RFK fans who are highly misinformed and a little lacking in self-awareness, but not yet ideologically captured and still able to respond positively to fact and change their ideas. Compare this to people like Nick Fuentes and his fans who are tied to something very concrete and much more extreme, you're never going to win them or the QAnon/MAGA voters over. These people think the whole game's corrupt everyone's corrupt and don't realize that there are still good people in politics on both sides of the aisle, and where there's not we can still change that. They need trust in our institutions and to understand how important that trust is to maintain. They need a source of accurate information, continued genuine appreciation for factual evidence-based arguments, and maybe a break from Rogan and Musk, who both generally offer none of those things and in Musk's case is consciously and intentionally pushing more and more extreme, misinformed views.
I have so much respect for this guy. I can tell he’s not dishonest for his support of Trump, but is endlessly willing to simply just converse and listen. It’s clear David was educating a person much more unfamiliar with the political landscape than him, but it’s insanely refreshing to see someone have an open mind. This is genuinely one of the most informative discussions I’ve seen in I don’t know how long.
The more I get to hear Trump supporters speak the more I realize how little they understand the things they are supporting. This is so sad. Truly the uneducated support him.
It is both sides... and it is more radical now then Ever Before... For this election if you feel you are ALL-IN on Trump or Kamala, the propaganda bug is sucking the life out of you. It sucks being a Democrat now because they rolled out the most unqualified, worst ticket in Presidential history. After Hillary, they didn't even try to bring a great candidate to the table... Just a puppet running with the same strategy "Trump is Hitler, Trump is so bad that is means Kamala Harris is somehow qualified and rhe best person for the highest position in Politics"
As a non-American, it's crazy how "low information" Trump voters are. This guy has a show and knows so little, imagine an average MAGA member, but at least he listens
Totally agree. I'm from the UK and this guy absolutely blew my mind. He has a channel and knows nothing, likes Trump but 'doesn't know if he's registered to vote'? Good God
I was thinking of the same thing! I'm from Sweden and I knew more than him. And to take your right to vote for granted and not even vote... that is INSANE to me!
That is a HUGE problem in this country! 80% of Trump supporters have little or no education. Most live in rule America with schools being miles and miles away so people homeschool their kids. Even though they have no education in teaching kids. What can go wrong?
David, from a 65 year old boomer, That was so smooth the way you brought the facts and opened his eyes. I try to do the same with friends and family, while trying not to become confrontational. Thanks for all your insights.
I think the issues always happen when the conversation goes to a whose right or whose wrong bc ppl's egos get hurt and some ppl's pride doesn't allow them to be receptive to being the wrong ones. I always go into a conversation to learn how ppl have come to such a conclusion bc then you lead with understanding vs a debate. It's always with a "Well, why do you think that?" And then I interject facts to lead them to a conclusion. Ppl are funny, they can't accept someone telling them they are wrong but if they come to the realization that they are wrong themselves, then it's okay for them to change their mind. That's what David does and what I appreciated about his presentations. He's always upfront and says: here's my belief on the subject and here's other information. Or it's understanding what the other side is saying and debunking it -well, if they let him get a word in..
i'm literally 3 minutes in and am wondering how this child has a whole podcast set and what looks like employees when he doesn't know....anything at all?????
He definitely hasn't. He is most likely the typical young person with above average intelligence who naturally wanted to learn more about the world so he started listening to talk radio and podcasts. I'm not sure if you've listened to talk radio at all lately but there are WAY more right-wing talk stations than left-wing or neutral stations.
Like marthapackard8649 said, I also think he wasn't fully secure in his support for Trump, probably just got most of, if not all his info from Twitter and/or other various unverified sources. It's part of how they get their claws in them, the often exaggerated and disrespectful comments and headlines from the far right are particularly eye-catching and entertaining, to say the least. And the ignorant just eat that shit up because it's said with confidence and they often dislike critical thinking, especially when it involves putting in others' perspectives. I've found most who call themselves red, tend to focus really only on what they think will affect them personally. They also don't frequently crosscheck the information they find with other sources, simply read or hear it once and take it at face. Trump has truly found a way to almost weaponize the mass ignorance of American citizens.
Same. I can no longer speak about anything remotely political because they don’t accept any fact, anything that doesn’t conform to their world view is main media lies and Trump derangement syndrome.
This kid is soooooo brutally uninformed. How do they grow such large platforms? Its almost terrifying, but I love David took the time to educate him and hopefully his young maga audience.
That's what the right follows... pseudo intellectuals who don't actually know shit but sound good to lazy idiots.. this guy is a joke...the embodiment of knowing enough to get yourself in trouble
100% accurate. It's embarrassing how little research and education Sean Kelly did for this interview. It scares me how uninformed folks at his level are and yet they're so willing to make an unassailable judgement for the election.
@@carensc7973, should say “Harris” anyway. I have noticed that we tend to say women’s first name but men’s last name, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
So agreed. A campaign like that of just David talking to Trump supporters committing to keep an open mind could single-handedly win the election. Particularly when he goes meticulously into how much better economies work under Dems, it's such a closer.
I do have to give this young man credit for absorbing the information and not reacting like most trump supporters who typically become angry and aggressive when presented with facts.

Sean Kelly seemed legitimately interested in what David was saying, asked thoughtful probing _good_ questions, and when challenged on his assumptions, didn't blindly stick to them. He also froze aid funds to PR and didn't let international ships bring supplies directly to the Island because of the Jones Act. The Jones Act was temporarily lifted 10 days after the hurricane struck. This is something Puerto Ricans will never forget about Trump and his administration.
I'm from Puerto Rico and I will never forget what Trump that. While I agree with the message of the statement, it is always best to not bring up statistics without any proof. It shows a closed mindedness to the world at hand. If you had said something more along the lines of, "majority of the people I have run into don't understand how tariffs work" then that would be better stated. But to throw around numbers to confirm a belief solves nothing and will only do more harm.
I thought the idea was that even if they aren't literally paying for the tariff, it increases the effective price and decreases the demand. So they "pay" for it in a way by having to take less profit to maintain a competitive price. Is this not right, at least in theory?
I came across a tick tock yesterday of a former conservative influencer. One of the things she said that aligns with this interview, actually learning about the issues is what changed her mind on political issues. She didn't realize how little she knew about the reality of the political landscape until she started venturing outside of her conservative bubble. Interviewers like this are absolutely essential.
Yes, absolutely 100% true. Slapping people down who are venturing outside their echo chamber might feel kind of satisfying in the short term but you’ve just lost a teachable moment if you do that. This guy learned something from this exchange. If nothing else he knows to Google how tariffs work and he’ll see that Packman was correct.
Duning-Kruger.... its rife across politics. The people who shout the loudest and are more entrenched in their position are almost always the least informed about the very things they think themselves informed in.
Remember: you, too, may have been influenced - only slightly, of course - in exactly the same way you believe conservatives have been. I have my doubts, but you may be capable of learning something. Again, I doubt it. It's also funny to see you use a word like "absolutely". I was sure you leftists believed that absolute truth does not exist.
To a massive degree. The interviewer was literally corrected on every single point he brought up,surprisingly it seemed he was taking in the information and not getting combative.
No he's not a typical Tump supporter. He admitted that he did not know what he did not know. No Tump supporter would ever do that. They would simply lie or repeat MAGA talking points. I'm Canadian in Canada. We have 'Trump supporters' here. But it's the same. "I like what he says" but don't actually know what he's saying. The way they look at you when you educate them on his actual policies and issues, is shocking
@@senikau78 I don't think it is just MAGA there are plenty of uninformed people on both sides, mainly due to News Media choosing what stories they can 'both sides'
Amazing civil conversation and I really hope someday we have David Pakman as our future president to unite our Country again. I was a CNN watcher before then my mother told me to watch shows like the meidas touch and now I will never go back to CNN ever. And thank you so much for giving me my faith back in humanity because I really did lose hope on everything when tRump won election.
This kid is the clearest example of the problem with TikTok’s influence over GenZ. They believe ‘the algorithm’, don’t read or research, they talk a big game and at the end of the day couldn’t bother to register to vote. This is why I decided to raise my kids in Europe. They still have access to TikTok but schools actually make them read and they learn to form their own opinions. You won this “debate” David, through preparation and articulation. Thank you for kindly educating the uneducated. Also I figured out how to vote from abroad and cast my vote for the only person fit to be president.
GenZ actually has a better BS filter than many Boomers. I teach high school chemistry and they actually understand how algorithms work and KNOW that what they see is being fed to them. Most negative stuff about GenZ that you hear in the media is older people not understanding how they think or why they think that. You’re kind of showing your own ignorance by the statement you’re making. GenZ knows what TikTok is doing and they like what they like. It’s a lot less influential than older people think. I talk to GenZ every day and it’s my literal job to understand how they think.
@ I hear you, I think they know things are being served up to them, but they don’t question it or look for other sources to validate or invalidate what they are seeing. It’s clear by this kid’s responses in the interview-he’s also not questioning what his interviewee is telling him. That’s why I loved when David said, “don’t take my word for it, fact check me.” That’s the valuable step kids are missing. I just want people who consume content, whether it’s The New York Times or a streamer, to research and validate what they’re hearing or reading. I also have teenagers so I dialogue with them a lot about what they are seeing and what their sources are when they tell me about the life hacks they heard about on tiktok. My niece developed an eating disorder from watching content creators tell young girls how to get skinny quick. To say Gen Z and Alpha aren’t being influenced by creators is to deny a fairly clear truth. Just look at Sephora sales. Brands have been banking on social’s influence over teens for almost two decades now.
It's not even a GenZ thing, my mom is almost 60 and is a diehard trump follower. She even compares him to Jesus. All of her political opinions are sourced from Facebook posts, Rumble, Truth Social and Fox News. This election was decided by engagement algorithms, not an informed voter base.
@@vanontom So what you are saying is that this young man goes with the flow and promotes support for Traitorman, simply because it gives him views. An empty shell - trying to make money on a hugely important issue.
You are great at this! I hope you appear on more right podcasts as long as they are as open and willing to learning as this guy is. Props to him for listening and learning!
Really nice to see a young “Trump supporter” willing to adjust his views based on information he didn’t have. Makes me hopeful that more young men are like him. I truly hope his large audience is just as willing to take onboard new facts when faced with them.
He nodded and said "right" a lot, but did he actually adjust his views? He didn't really express any views other than asking questions. He never had a counterpoint, he would ask, listen, and then move on.
I agree, but the kid doesn't even know if he's going to vote. He doesn't even know if he's registered. I get the sense that he doesn't really care that much about voting himself. Which makes the whole thing pretty bizarre. He needs to wake up and learn about all the American soldiers who have died in war so he could have the right to vote.
To me, saying he adjusted his views, but still wouldn’t vote left, just means he would vote for Trump. So really, his views weren’t ultimately altered to any meaningful degree.
@@GreatOutdoors1 One could argue that being willing to ask, listen, and then admit that he didn't know something, is a sign that he could be adjusting his views. Someone who didnt/had no intentions of adjusting their views would have argued either the opposite point to what David said or whatever belief they already had while negating David's point. Him going 'Oh okay I didnt know that' may show current ignorance but him not wholeheartedly regurgitating talking points or lies is actually a good showing that his mind can be changed by simple facts being presented to him.

Great exchange between these two. I thought there was some great info shared here. Very positive. 👏
Impressive way of tackling questions that could have elicited a very different and unproductive approach.
And he still is a MAGAT.
Only thing is he's constantly uninformed about all the topics they cover in the interview. Like show some professionalism.

@Tedoco50 perfectly said 💙
I think the issues always happen when the conversation goes to a whose right or whose wrong bc ppl's egos get hurt and some ppl's pride doesn't allow them to be receptive to being the wrong ones. And the ignorant just eat that shit up because it's said with confidence and they often dislike critical thinking, especially when it involves putting in others' perspectives. Exactly! Man has no idea on the most basic facts.
People that support Trump are the political peak on the Dunning-Kruger effect, what do you expect?
Outside of this interview, it seems like this guy doesn't know how to ask (the right) questions about the things he's watching/reading/hearing. Like, never having taken two minutes after hearing about any topic to Google it. That's really bizarre to me as an info seeker... 23:38 I'm from Puerto Rico and yes, Trump came to the Island after hurricane María and threw paper towels at a Puerto Rican crowd during the humanitarian crisis. Its on video. He also froze aid funds to PR and didn't let international ships bring supplies directly to the Island because of the Jones Act. The Jones Act was temporarily lifted 10 days after the hurricane struck.
This is something Puerto Ricans will never forget about Trump and his administration.
Interesting, never heard that!
But were they at least Bounty paper towels? It’s the quicker picker upper.
@@capprimenttotally true. Check it.
That was awful. 😢
I'm from Puerto Rico and I will never forget what Trump that. He didn't just throw the paper towels and block aid, but as people on the island suffered and died, he was saying Puerto Rico was dirty and that he wanted to swap it for Greenland. He also said that Puerto Rico will never be a State as long as he lived--I'm not saying I'm pro statehood, but I believe it should be up to us. Anyway, my dislike for Trump isn't only because of what he did on the island--of course, that alone would be enough. However, he's the most vile subhuman to run for the presidency, at least in my lifetime. He's a Racist. Immoral. Repulsive. Misogynist. He is a rapist.. He put children in cages, some were toddlers. He wants to deport every single Hispanic, citizen or not. And, believe it or not, that includes us. Oh, but we're citizens, I hear you say. Our citizenship is statutory. Puerto Rico is a territory and Congress is the one that decides our fate. Guess what would happen if he gets back to the WH? If you need to have an idea, check out the fascist manifesto, Project 2025.

You are so sad I have no words. Maybe you should stick to words instead of numbers, and economic policy.
Yes, absolutely 100% true.
Slapping people down who are venturing outside their echo chamber might feel kind of satisfying in the short term but you’ve just lost a teachable moment if you do that.

Genuinely curious, do you know who it was?
Duning-Kruger.... its rife across politics. The people who shout the loudest and are more entrenched in their position are almost always the least informed about the very things they think themselves informed in.
Remember: you, too, may have been influenced - only slightly, of course - in exactly the same way you believe conservatives have been. I have my doubts, but you may be capable of learning something. Also I figured out how to vote from abroad and cast my vote for the only person fit to be president.
in Europe the news arent on Tik tok our X. lots of differences over here.
