That's why they say love God with all your heart, mind and soul. The older brother followed the other commandments but not the first and great commandment. We should always pray for God to cleanse our hearts and help us love him as he loved us.
My dad asked me to watch the prodigal son on RUclips a couple years b4 he died smh I am just now understanding what he was saying to me in full now. Ty for this, u just changed a lot for me.
Thank you for explanation and i identify myself with an older brother judging people who are doing wrong forgetting that I'm not perfect myself and I pray to God yo give me a heart of love and compassion
I finally understood the story, after having turned away from God and feeling guilty about my behavior. Today I understand that he is waiting for me. thanks
This is a remarkably well explained version of this story. I cried a little at 14.29, the father there is god, and it’s a profoundly impactful statement re finding faith and beginning a journey to redemption at any stage in your life
I'm returning to God after the sufferings I had while battling with depression for 3 years and doing wrong things - by relying only on myself and sinning. I felt so bad, the devil ruled my mind by telling me I was unworthy of living every single day. I felt emptiness and heaviness in my soul and millions of sad suicidal thoughts. But I still had hope, that someday I would be healed. Because the world of God is perfect, but I couldn't see it that well with chaos in my mind and heart. Now, I'm finally healing by forgetting these traumatic times and becoming better and kinder to myself and others every day. Life is perfect and beautiful with the peace God gives. That was the first chapter I read and I cried. I see myself in the younger brother, who thought that the Father would be angry at his son that didn't listen to him. I want to celebrate. I want to come back home and embrace my Father, my Jesus and finnaly be happy and found. And you helped me to see it. Thank you so much.
I identify myself as a younger brother because i strayed away from GOD on the year 2021, and do things that against His commands😭😢💔 and also an older brother because back then sometimes i got jealous even though i know its wrong i can still feel it.😢 Thankyou for this video😭
Excellent interpretation! I also draw a parellel between the two brothers that this life is neither fulfilling nor fair. The only truth and meaning are found in God and we have to denounce our pride to come to that realization
Thank you for sharing your heart with that astonishing story... I am related to the two of His sons. But I would love to become like the father, MORE... loving, caring, inclusive, a party thrower for those kinds of sons. God bless u. 🎉
I wish you would make many more videos, Jeffery. I really love the intelligent, thoughtful way you handle scripture- even a simple story/passage such as this one. I like your approach so much more than any others I've been able to find. I also find myself tired of the Old Testament sermons and want to focus more on what Jesus taught. I really need to hear the words of our Lord from someone who doesn't misapply/misinterpret the meaning and you do an excellent job of that. God bless you and your family.
Thank you for making this video. I have some follow up questions. First are both sons supposed to be unsaved sinners or do they represent born again Christians? One person told me that the younger son represents a born again person, who backslides into sin and then repents. They quoted the passage where the father says, my son was dead and is alive AGAIN. I also noticed that the next phrase the son is described as being lost and then being found (saved) by God. Any insights you could share would be appreciated
Can anyone explain why a parent would receive help, gifts and blessings all the time from their own children, when they themselves would never do these same things for their own parent. I thought understanding this parable would explain this but no. It's not this. The 'do as you would be done by' rule just doesn't apply to them somehow. But why?
Prodigal Son ~ A "Certain" man. That man would be Issac. He had two sons. Those would be Jacob and Esau. Younger one leaves home, tends to animals, returns home to someone running to greet him.
In some ways it is harder to identify as the older brother. The younger brother is in the right heart space. I am more commonly in the role of the older brother.
You are right, it is harder to identify as the older brother. But I think most of us will end up there at some point if we follow Jesus for some time. It's easier than we think to start looking down on the younger brothers around us. That's really good that you can see that in you and identify it. It's when we bring our brokenness and shortcomings to God that he brings us healing and a new life.
God’s love is unconditional. The Bible presents a different perspective, depicting God as a wrathful being who punishes sin by burning both body and soul. This notion is arguably one of the greatest lies ever told, crafted for religious purposes to control the masses. Additionally, the concept of a devil is a fabrication We must not deny God's love. We are all children of God, regardless of our actions, as there exists a spark of light within each individual, no matter how small. This light is enduring and cannot be extinguished The key lessons of the prodigal son are 1. Unconditional Love and Forgiveness**: The father in the parable symbolizes God, who is always prepared to forgive and welcome back those who repent, regardless of how far they have strayed. 2. Repentance and Redemption**: The younger son's return signifies the importance of acknowledging one's mistakes, seeking forgiveness, and striving to return to a righteous path. 3. Grace and Mercy**: The father's actions illustrate that God's grace and mercy are offered freely and abundantly, surpassing what we may feel we deserve. 4. Rejoicing Over the Lost**: The celebration for the returned son represents the joy in heaven over a sinner who repents and returns to God. 5. Lesson for the Faithful**: The older brother's reaction emphasizes the need to understand and embrace God's boundless grace, reminding the faithful to rejoice in the salvation of others rather than harbor resentment and condemnation This parable highlights God's Perfect love, encouraging us to forgive and celebrate the return of those who have lost their way. ..
Thanks for a well thought out explanation. However, the audience of the parables is not 21st Century men. It is not just saying God loves us whatever we do. No, Jesus is saying it is not too late for Israel to understand that they must bow down to him. If anyone had understood who Jesus was. But they saw him from their own perspective.
Guy Richie on the Joe Rogan podcast sums this story up the best. Also it’s nothing to do with religion or the bible… it’s a parable created substantially later than the bible text.
While interesting, his take is simply wrong. Assuming you believe the Bible is God's word. If you don't believe that then I suppose you can still pull meaning from this parable, as Guy Richie does. But that doesn't make it accurate. He rips God out of his spot and puts us in. That's pretty close to heresy, again assuming the Bible is God's word.
Why didn't the father ever through a party for the elder brother? A simple thank you would have made the elder brother's day ! The problem in this stroy is that this is about rewarding a loser that came back coz he had 'no where to go'. If the younger brother had somewhere else to go he wouldn't have come back. Sadly he had no option. Having said that, the father is being unjust to the elder brother. The elder brother gives the reaction he gave coz of the excitement he saw in the father when the younger brother came back. I deduce that the father never showed the same level of excitement / love / gratitude to the older brother. The elder brother is right to get angry. I read this story when I was like 7-8 years old ( in a Church Sunday School). The villain in this story is the father. The character is dum. He is so engrossed in the younger son (who is a failure) that he forgets the elder brother. The reaction from the elder brother is just and perhaps that is the reason why the father gave a week excuse that your brother was dead and has now come back. If he was dead, the father should have thanked the elder brother to stay with him (take care of the family business - farming I guess) This story is not about how god's love it's about how God selects complete idiots (younger brother) who have no place to go but God. And forgets the treasure he already has (older brother).
@@RethinkwithJefferyPoor : The older brother didn’t join the party because it was a party thrown to celebrate the prodigal son. Not the prodigal sons. I relate with the elder brother, and if the elder brother has followed every rule then he already has a place in gods kingdom. But sadly it’s not true. God wants more. He want the elder brother to keep his dignity aside and join in a celebration for the younger brother who till things were going well didn’t want to do anything with the father. I see this as an insult to the elder brother.
I agree. Why didn’t the father ever throw the elder brother a party? I see this all the time. The older brother who obeyed is cast to the side for the desire of the younger brother. Well put.
The elder brother was just as lost as the younger brother. The reality is we are ALL lost and in need of a savior. Some of us get lost at home, other are lost in a land far away. Either way, we all need to recognize our sinfulness. This is why the religious leaders butted heads with Jesus so often. They thought they were good enough, Jesus showed them they were just as broken as those "sinners" they looked down on. The notion that the older brother "obeyed" is false. He might have done the right actions, but with the wrong heart. He need to repent just as the younger brother did. But whereas the younger brother came to his senses, swallowed his pride, and admitted his sins, the older brother refused.
That's why they say love God with all your heart, mind and soul. The older brother followed the other commandments but not the first and great commandment. We should always pray for God to cleanse our hearts and help us love him as he loved us.
Great explanation. The great thing about this story is I can see myself as both brothers at different times in my life.
