I have 9 small to medium size goldfish in a 65 gallon tank. Many people talk about the hormone released by goldfish to prevent others getting big, and also over feeding. Here's my thought : Last time I fed them twice a day, I got 2 sudden death. Then I heard from a professional groomer in Asia that he fed 10 times or even more in a day. Since then, I feed my goldfish peas at 10 am, then feed them every hour until 10 pm. I fed them Hikari lion head and hikari color extreme (red), and I never had any swim bladder stuff. The point of overfeeding is don't feed to much pellets in one feed, so every feeding only give them one mouth full, but feed every hour. My fish are now so fat, super shiny, and very healthy. Actually if you look at the show fish, they are fat. And feeding like this will make them poop a lot, so I change 20-30% of water everyday. That also prevents the hormone stuff. So don't listen too much to the so-called goldfish experts. You need more fish to make your tank looks good, and you need to fat fish that look cute.
My brother in law gave me 11 small gold fish (ranchu) around 2-3 inches per fish, since he cannot take care of it anymore. I bought a 120 gallon tank (48x24x24). My filtration is an undersump measuring (30x12x12) filled with filter media and an overhead sump measuring (24x6x6) filled with filter wool and plant (Pothos). I also placed two sponge filters on each side. I didn't put any substrate or decoration in the tank. My question is, would this setup be good enough for all those gold fish so that they can live a long life and grow to their maximum size? PS: I also have a 4 inch pleco in the same tank to clean algae. and the total gallons per hour of the two pumps for the two sumps is 1320 gallons per hour.
It sounds okay for a few months, but for a permanent home (if you plan to keep all 11) would need to be 220-250 gal for them to grow to their full potential and live a good, long life. The 120 would be fine if you kept 5 or 6. Also, that's not accounting for the pleco. Plecos aren't good tank mates for goldfish. They'll eventually start to suck the goldfish's slime coat off. It's always okay until it isn't. You are the best algae cleaner. 😉
Biggest mistake for me was not knowing the gallon per goldfish rule. I started with a 29 for two and they began displaying overcrowding symptoms such as chasing during feeding and stress symptoms like bottom sitting. However, I just got myself a 75 gallon though and I have one watonai and one oranda and am soon going to be adding a ranchu. Possibly a fourth down the road but that would be about 19 gallons per fish.
If u have plants as much as the plants need. Other than that I wouldn’t say there is any hard number that matters. If you are getting a lot of algae just cut back the light. My tank is in a room where it gets plenty of sunlight from a sliding door so I could literally not ever light it.
Good information. Just bought a used tank with the fish. I had to refill and start over when I brought them home.Have to top up . Should I add additional chemicals while topping up. The Goldfish are eating the wafer for the pleco regardless of time of night.

1-2 minutes? They eat a LOT in 1-2 minutes. I could literally throw in half a hand full of pellets and they would devour that in 1-2 minutes. LoL. They're pigs.
I'm tired of watching people torture goldfish, and am going to elaborate on this. They can live to be 20-30+ years old. If you ways end up with a dead fish after 6-12 months, it's because you're doing something wrong. I don't like the 20g per goldfish rule at all. That is what I'd consider the upper limit unless other steps are taken. I have a degree in biology. So, listen to me or don't, I don't care a that much and will sleep fine. Most of the tanks I see on RUclips are WAY too small. The 20g rule needs to be updated to 40g. There also needs to be a push on how to properly filter a tank, because what you get from the pet store isn't enough for these. Here's what I do with my filters. Take all the media, other than the foam, and throw it away. You only need 2 things, foam and ceramic/sinted glass biological ftration media. Set up the flow so that the water hits the foam first and gets all the big particles out. Then, the foam filtered water needs to go through all the biological media, back out to the tank. I like Biohome filter media from Great Wave Engineering. They have a website you can order it on. Or, spend 4x what they charge on Amazon for the same thing. The big thing is having the flow going through the foam first, then the biological media. Otherwise all the little pores where the bacteria live will clog and not be able to do their job. 1. You can feed them a lot. You just need a heater to avoid the digestive issues. I feed mine as much as they want. But, I do two water changes per week as well, and it's a 125g, triple filtered with tons of extra biological ceramic. That's the key. Biological filtration. 2. Get a good fish breeder. Stop buying from petsmart and petco. 3. I keep my tank heated at 78 degrees. It helps them digest the extra food I give them by increasing metabolism. 4. You should be running multiple filters. 99% of people have under filtered tanks that are too small. 5. Duh. 6. Yes! I have 2 ranchu in a 125g. They're both 6in+ and still growing. 7. Back to running multiple filters... I not only clean the glass every time, I mix the sand up, let it settle, and then clean it up. You're bacteria should be in your filter, not on the aquarium. 8. Yes. They have the newer led ones that mimic a daily sun cycle. 9. I think the 20g per is a dumb rule. I'd say more like double that. Sure, you can do it. But, they're not going to thrive and will be unhealthy. I shoot for 50g per fish. 3 in my 125g max. 10. Fish have immune systems. In general, they will stay healthy if everything else is on point.
@@adamk8961 why would you want to do that? I can't think of a single positive you'd get from doing that. Do you mean, a water mover/power head? Something that just adds extra water movement? Yeah, that's fine. As for waves, that's a waste of money that would be better spent improving the things I've outlined above. Bigger tank, proper filtration.
@@adamk8961 Yeah, go throw that toy away and get a real tank. It won't matter what filter you put on that tank. It's too small and the ammonia will constantly be too high, or fluctuate too much between water changes. Not to be a dick, but this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. That fish will eventually be 8-12+ inches. It will NEVER make it in a tank that small and will die in a year, like I said in my original comment. Do you expect that to work for a fish that large? If not, why do are you using it? Let me guess, temporary until you can get a bigger one, right? I've heard it a million times. You need to either give the fish away to someone who can properly care for it. Or, get a bigger tank. No filter will help you when you're starting from that point. Your fish will always be suffering light ammo burns, and never thrive like it should. I said 40g minimum per goldfish. You're about half that with one. Sorry I'm not nice about this. But, people are abusing their animals and need to be told exactly how they're doing so. 1) Get a tank at least 3X that size. I recommended just going straight to the 125g if you want these fish. 2) put this or an FX5 or 6 model in. But, you still have to buy the right media to it inside or its worthless. www.amazon.com/dp/B095G3WHL2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_YW2JY7YP5NHDXP7MGR7N?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The fish had a bent tail fin from day one. So I expect it to grow back the same way.
I also noticed one of it's eyes are gone. No hope for a new one 😕
bro you forgot getting fried in a pan
Lol ya
It looks like two live one dies
I have to give the fish medication
Can I ask a question can you install wavemakers for a oranda tank .
