Would you like to see a 'Pro' version of iPadOS?
Yes even though I doubt it
@@youtubepro2323 I think apple are listening that we dont see the point in a powerful iPad if a cheaper far less powerful one that they sell can do the same job
Of course I’d love to see it🤩😍
I would like to run the full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams on my iPad. Then it’ll be my primary device. But, that will NEVER happen so I’ll go back to drinking bourbon.
@@ChristianZafra-xj2jq Me too! It would be great!
Would be cool to run Mac OS Applications on iPad
It sure would!
@@MattTalkTech I just want to play bg3 on my iPad and some render software
Crazy how there's absolutely nothing stopping you from running Mac OS software on an iPad (same ISA, same chipset, practically same OS), but apple doesn't let you because it wants you to buy another device.
wait until 2077
I would love for you to improve your sound quality. Having a mic somewhere across the room won't cut it.
Just give me a terminal app w/ bash and access to most of the file system because that's what I use 50% of the time on macOS. Well, hopefully I'll get that at least here in the EU with side loading. Also Xcode would be nice, too.
bash is old coding. New architecture runs zsh
@@beniofisial6316 No, the default is now zsh but I still use bash because I have used it for decades.
I’d also prefer zsh but given so many servers run terminals only with bash, I wouldn’t mind stretching my bash muscles.
So while the patent idea for a hybrid OS system would be cool do we know if something like this coming soon to the iPad Pro? Patents can be filed and sit for years before they are rolled out.
Thanks for the Information ♥
Thank you for watching
Is it me, or is there no link to the Lexar SSD storage device in the description?
Great video Matt! 🎉
Thank you @MattTalkTeck! I appreciate the update!
Will I get it for iPad m2 ?
Now THIS is interesting!
I really really hope we get something like this at WWDC
THIS is Pod Racing
So do I!
Yes for sure. Thank you Matt
Awesome!
This would definitely be something to look forward to. Hopefully it will run on my non M chip iPad pro.
Like dex mode ??
Dope video
Well I am hoping for a new Macbook Pro now that I got an Ipad Air M2 13 inches. I love it and I am getting use to a larger screen. I am exploring now what I can connect to it.
I just ordered the 13” 1TB if they bring macOS I’ll be so excited
I’m sure I missed it but I can’t find the link for the external drive you showed. I’m sure it’s just a me thing.
I didn’t see it either
Sorry, it is there now but its here too; amzn.to/3U2Pp8I

No issues my friendly. Glad you were able to add it. 266.04 Canadian is pretty good for 2T drive.
The answer you are looking for is kind of what mkb hd said in his decision to buy one and use it like a laptop, its because it is far more intuitive than any thing they release final cut 2 that only works because well of apple pencil integration for the most part and overall the software being hard to impliment, stage manager is a big step i don’t doubt another could be taken but it needs to feel natural.
I need to decide between the two as my uni starts in a few months and I don’t have any capable device.
I'd 100% recommend the new 13" iPad Air for pretty much all kinds of students (except software engineering). Unless daddy is paying, in which obviously go for the Pro.
Just started back at College and went with the iPad Pro 13”. Reading textbooks is much more enjoyable on a iPad than a MacBook. Taking notes (Nebo) with the new pencil is also better on the iPad. The new keyboard is awesome, but does make it quite heavy.
Just get the m1 MacBook Air for writing assignments and a basic iPad for reading textbooks and annotating articles…
I totally feel the same. Checked out the M4 ipad at the apple store couple days ago, amazing hardware but I failed to imagine how i can take it into my workflow, nothing really justifies the $2500 price tag if they dont make it useful, instead of a bigger phone to me.
Phone is more useful than this toy
😮
Thanks Matt.
Thanks for watching
Dual boot please!
The problem is that say an iPad Pro M4 with 256GB, Both OS would take 100GB of that together
@@MattTalkTech Apple could always limit the feature to devices with enough storage or (although very unlikely) make the OS downloadable so that you could install the MacOS on an external drive.
@@MattTalkTech Make a rule to install MacOS on an external drive from apple themself with a special chip so you cant use any external drive. Its a win-win for apple selling external drives like apples.
Were you speaking from a non-artist point of view for an artist with this upgrade for the pencil and the extra power that you could do with 3-D modeling and such I think it’s a very tempting deal. I almost bought it, but I’m waiting a while. I got the M2 terabyte right now.
Yes! Since I just bought the IPad Pro
I would really really love that. I've been wishing for an iPad Mac OS device for a while now.
Why?
I’m not really clear what you are saying. Maybe just that it will have Finder?
My suggestion is the M4 iPads be able to run 1 Mac app at a time. A Finder Mac-like environment and single app operation like it has now only also for Mac apps. This would differentiate but allow specific work to get done on the go…
You are right 👍 Sir
For designers, it would be a gamechanger ❤ most designers use both because of different OSs.
Can’t wait, the future is exciting!
If this comes to pass this June then WOW
I really hope so Matt, it's an expensive inversion for the future but it'd be worth it for me if that were the case!
@MattTalkTech Thanks for the great video content! I have an M2 iPad Pro and really feel like it’s over powered and underutilized! Makes sense to put MacOS Hybrid mode in all the M-Series iPads! 😊❤👍
Bro, Very helpful info as always 👌. Also appreciate you helping people to save money in purchasing instead of people wasting money when these expensive devices are not needed.
The iPadOS on an iPad should evolve to incorporate features of macOS, fully utilizing the hardware and creating a new hybrid OS. This would eliminate the need for dual booting, offering the power of macOS in the form of a remarkable iPadOS on a tablet.
Awesome👍
I agree. Hybrid pls
I don’t understand how it is so elusive to many people: iteratively, Apple is building a Mac Surface device. The writing is so plain upon the wall that it’s now written in 84pt font in red with a giant neon blinking sign around it.
Haha, totally agree
There's a lot more to it. Designing an interface suitable for both touch and mouse+trackpad+keyboard is very difficult to do correctly. Apple does have insanely good designers but the design by definition will be a compromise. That is important because ever since Windows designed it for both tablets and desktops, windows has been terrible at both. It still lags in opening the start menu, notifications tray, windows overview... Opening file explorer, everything. This isn't completely the 2-in-1 design's fault and can be ironed out. But it does feed to the compromise and this will exist since both interfaces will need to be catered to. Additionally, the surface line is not a success or a compelling product to this day. Its nice and great for many users. I really wanted a windows tablet when the ones with windows 7 came out. But using windows 7 on a tablet didn't work because its not designed for touch. Windows 10/11 also don't work well with touch because again, not designed for touch. They are usable, but not as good as they used to be. Finally, what's the point? Using a touch screen makes sense for a tablet, but as soon as we take the touchpad and trackpad away from the ipad and surface laptop, using the surface laptop instantly becomes a chore. It turns out that users mostly use it as a laptop replacement which they can draw on (the drawing isn't that good on surface, definitely when compared to the iPad). If we're going to use the tablet as a laptop, use a laptop. Touching the screen of a laptop is only useful or fun when you've got the laptop on your belly while laying on the floor, or have the screen in your lap (keyboard on your belly) while sitting upright. I have had a few touch screen laptops including 3 surface devices. Surface laptop 2, 3 and surface book 2 15inch. The surface line to this day has not been worth the investment and the majority of them are really underpowered. I wanted to buy the surface studio (desktop) and came really close to spending a lot of money on it. It was really underpowred and users would say well its a small form factor in the base. How? The base was 3x thicker than any laptop (minus the lid) which would help with heat management significantly. You can easily fit a much larger heat sink in there and let it handle the extra heat. It was cost saving decision on the part of microsoft and fair enough. I love the 3:2 aspect ratio to this day. Fast forward to today, microsoft has replaced the surface studio (after a huge amount of r&d plus marketing), with a laptop called the surface studio. brilliant. and that laptop sucks too. They killed the surface book, killed the surface studio and windows has been dead since they stopped charging huge licensing fees for it. Having said all of this, iPad OS and iOS need a huge overhaul. They're too cluttered and not useful at this point (the software). It does need an experience which can parallel the laptop experience (as close as they can get with touch input). Finally, macos, ios an ipad os need their bugs fixed. It's long overdue. I find it hard to convince myself that I'm using an official release these days on ios and mac os in particular. My iPhone goes from insanely fast flying through everything to pentium then threadripper then celeron then i9 with every official update. Macos is not as bad but the hardware allows the os to be unoptimised and go unnoticed for a while. No heat, amazing battery, no noise, easy to forget those 0.2s extra delays on simple tasks. harder to ignore the visual bugs which are now plaguing ios and mac os. edit: I 100% support allowing mac os apps to run on the iPad. The experience will require a trackpad and mouse for it to be good, but would make a lot of iPad users really happy and be able to switch over to iPad os. This is made possible by the apple silicon as they're now all running the same architecture.
@@ZeerakImran I would be far more interested in your arguments as a person with Blindness if Apple hadn’t broken all third-party accessibility software in 2017, but being as how they’re still making all of the MacBook Pro and Air and iPad Air as well as the iPad Pro, I care about as much about all your personal experiences as I’m sure you care about those of the Disabled community.
I think Dex has an almost perfect idea of how this should work.
@@jamesmarkham9740I agree; it is an imperfect bridge solution, particularly the 1.0 or 2.0 that we’re in now. I also think Dex is right. I also know that using an iPP as a laptop now, in this early stage of the product lifecycle, will be a compromise. But, as it appears the vast majority of these tech social media influencers are deeply ignorant of the issues of the Disabled community (which as of 2019 - pre-pandemic - were estimated as high as 1/5th the entire US population; so figure that the same estimate now if the data existed would potentially be 1/4 to perhaps 1/3), I am going to say that despite whatever small issues exist the huge game changer (which I suspect a few Apple Bros are actually pushing against if they were really honest, and if so for them they can collectively suck my …) is having ostensibly an Apple personal computer running iOS accessibility software.
i was thinking of getting the new air or should i go for the pro ?
Wait for the new os to release and see some reviews. Then purchase.
Yeah wait for the new os event in mid July. But wouldn't have high hopes, every year I remain disappointed and would say you can do everything on the air you would on the pro ie watch netflix and browse the internet.
Ask yourself how will I use it?
Build your systems around how you use it rather than what they sell .
Nice
0.16 Ummm... Where's the app dock? The UI wouldn't have the MacOS vibe without the dock.
IPad Pro M1 It needs to be hybrid to take advantage of Adobe programs, paying for an Adobe subscription forces you to use an imac or macbook pro if you work video
I use my M1 iPad Pro mainly for reading books. I use it during flights to check/reply to e-mail and texts, take notes. I occasionally use it to take notes or markup documents and images using the Apple Pen. It serves its purpose well, but I will never need or want a tablet to replace a far more powerful laptop.
Why do you have the pro version for these basis tasks?🙄
@@lacafaca100 Why not? I can afford it and using an iPad is more convenient than a laptop to use in flight. Also, due to the potential to disclose confidential information I can't perform meaningful work in public settings.
@@gaiustacitus4242 i asked why pro version and not basic ipad or air (was not mentioning laptop…)
@@lacafaca100 As I said, I can afford it. I typically don't buy low end hardware. If I encounter a task I need a more powerful device to run, then I already have it. Why buy something you may outgrow?
BTW, due to an abundance of caution when it comes to cybersecurity, I never sell off old equipment. This decision is based on having run a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) for more than a decade. I'm aware that vulnerabilities in an OS are often detected after security updates have ceased and someone could access confidential data stored on the device. I find such risk unacceptable.
@@lacafaca100 The MacBook Air is a laptop.
I plan o buy the new 13" iPad Pro this year.
I think one of the biggest issues is that a Mac can bypass the App Store. A lot of the functionality we miss on iPad comes from apps not on the Mac App Store. So we’d need to download apps from the internet on an iPad. I can’t see Apple giving up that level of control (and revenue)
This would sell me on an iPad instantly! Fingers crossed for wwdc🤞
THE APPLE Silicone developer MacMini had an A12Z running BigSur….so it’s been doable for a looooong time
I might actually consider buying it. It would be really useful for me if it can run blender
It would be really good if it comes
i know i need blender too for a personal project and my mac its at my friend he is repairing it
How about a dual boot? I have this on my Windows PC. One Terabyte or more on the iPad Pro M4? No problem to have two Operating systems. MacOS and IpadOS
That would be problem, the most popular iPad Pro/Airs Apple sell is the lowest Storage Options, so sadly not much space for both
@@MattTalkTech they could still make it available for the larger storage options. I would never buy a mac or ipad unless it was an ipad that allowed me to use true, full macOS.
@@connorelliott7881 Now you are talking Apple's language: Let's upgrade all the way up to the bigger versions with their super expensive RAMS and storage prices. Granted the double LED looks good, but it is ridiculously expensive. Might as well buy a Macbook by then, which is also what Apple want you to do.. it all runs in a circle.
@@MattTalkTech True Matt but I mean for the one terabyte M4s and up. Apple would sell many thousands and fewer MacBooks
Why even use Mac OS on iPad Pro? It's a Mac with just one dongle port. Let iPad be iPad, but let iPad have apps that can view and edit documents and collab with projects for that Mac connection.
If you want Mac OS you got MacBooks and some desktop models.
Mac OS is a mouse/trackpad based OS. Maybe you can use voice control also. I don't know if Mac OS will be a great experience on iPads with touch even if Apple will add that support...
How come only for iPad Pro??? iPad Air M2?? iPad Air M1?
If they do this I’m definitely upgrading to the M4! I have an M2 now and not enough of a use case to upgrade to M4 but if you let me have MAC OS and iOS on the same machine then I am 1000% in.
same
Same. Apple doesn't want to because they would lose billions. Now you need two devices, why would they only want you tobuy one?
I would hope they would put the software on all M-series iPads
So one thing I’d like to see on them is the ability to update say like my Sony camera or canon cameras or other devices that need a computer to update them. My computer is way too old to operate and my 2017 iPad Pro is on the verge of just being completely out dated.
My conjecture is this new iPad Pro OS will only work on the M4 iPad Pro, and some features will be released drip by drip to the lower-end iPads as the time progresses.
There is a rumour MacBook or Mac i forgot but they said there will be touchscreen will it fall or up 🤔
Hope to god your right, need my Mac apps on iPad badly
What would be awesome is if they added a button to the control panel that allowed ipads to enter Mac mode, similar to mobile browser option to switch to desktop mode. I’m sure there would be logistical issues but it’s Apple, they can figure it out if they really want to.
My vote is for mac os or a limited mac os on the ipad. What’s the point of these M series chips otherwise? I can’t wait for the day I can ditch my laptop for an ipad instead of both.
My bet is the 'dividing line' is now, the m4 10-core/16GB (1 & 2 TB) will be deemed 'capable' and everything else will be locked to IpadOs. Moving forward, for the next 2 releases they will likely hobble all but the most premium models in a similar way (core locking/ram reduction), as justification to maintain the lock, and to give an incentive for people to shell out for the top tier model. Comply with demand in the way that maximizes their $... JMO
I just want my first MacBook to code my own apps and share it with the world!
I would like to see this, I don’t think it would go as far as you are hoping. But, I would like to see the memory manager be the same, and the file system the same. Using the files app isn’t all that friendly. But, if they would handle these things the same, it would make it so that native silicon apps would be easy to port. The pull down menus etc would have to be larger on the iPad Pro os. It would require an M series chip. I suspect that Apple has been using Logic and Final Cut Pro as examples on how they can translate the user interface. It may be a little early on that, but from what I saw on the updated apps that I saw, it seems that they are getting smarter on that.
This would also give Apple a chance to offer a 24GB version of the m4 for iPad and extract more money from us. 🤔
No in an interview they stated the are a different device and they don't want it to be like devices its, its own machine
It’s not about essentially do the same thing, it is about ‘smoother’ ‘faster loading’ ‘zero stuttering’ and the whole ‘everything runs so fast and smooth with the latest apps”. That’s the difference between older generation and newer iPad. Apps have evolved, requires more power processing than ever which means requires more powerful chip. Simple as that.
Apple, if you read this, for thunder god, please keep optimised touch screen UX/UI. That MacOS UI on iPad is a nightmare! 😢
Xcode needs to be running on iPad
as amed student am still happy with my 2018 ipad pro 12.9.still does the job
This is very exiting to have a ipad os close to mac os and to use mac os apps on ipad, it will be very cool if they do it for all M chips ipad this will really justify the price and increase the sales of ipad, cant wait for this ipad os to release....
I think Apple needs to do something. It's like bizarre to have my 9th gen iPad Pro running all the same stuff that every other iPad runs. They're all overpowered given my needs. Apple needs to show off some of the benefits of getting a new machine. I agree the big issue is that fact that iPad Pro, iPad "not pro" is going to have issues with cutting into the MacBook market. If the allowed MacOS to run on iPad, people would get only one machine rather than two.
it would be a good experience on the 1 and 2Tb models since they have 16gb of ram... not quite sure the 8gb 256/512gb would be that good of an experience.
5:00 That's literally Stage Manager not a new MacOS mode.
Building on your logic, it is possible that the operating system will be shared between Mac and iPad as Apple introduces new products like Vision Pro and other glasses. Eventually, it's conceivable that Mac and iPad will merge into one product as we begin to interact with technology differently.
This would be great and a hybrid MacOS that could do everything iPadOS does as well as the basics (including file management) of MacOS then I am in and will be purchasing an iPad Pro M4. However, I will definitely wait for iPadOS 18 Hybrid to come out before I purchase. Regarding Apple not wanting me (us) to pick either iPad Pro or Macbook, they want us to purchase both. Yeah, I know that has been happening. However, the price of iPad Pro M4 is major and more than a Macbook Air. Also, I would use the following: iPad Pro M4 with 1 TB and Magic Keyboard and Pencil Pro ($2300); Mac Mini Pro with I TB ($1500); iPad Mini ($650); iPhone 16 Pro Max ($1200); Apple Watch 9 ($430); AirPod Pro 3rd Gen ($250); all totaling about $6000 and Apple wants on top of that to purchase a Macbook (another $1500+). Really Apple.
I sure hope you're right, Matt! 😍 At this point, im 80% desktop and find that a laptop is still a bit too clunky for my mobile workflow. But an ipad pro that has better storage/retrieval and multi-app interface would move the bar for me using the ipad in a more professional capacity tyan i currently am using it for right now. That means an ipad pro would make sense. 😊
2 years ago they added virtual memory to iPad os. If they allow apps to run background tasks and allow multiple apps to access devices like audio and cameras, a lot of the complaints will be addressable. The current os is not friendly enough to true multitasking.
Different tools for different uses. iPad has become it's own niche device. It has a touch screen, keyboard dock, cellular service and works for most casual users. The problem is, It doesn't have the "Pro" or "Ultra" series of CPU chips, nor the bigger 16" displays, multiple USB-C ports or the fully featured MacOS operating system. I don't think it makes sense to "merge" these devices into 1 product because that would compromise both products that serve their separate core demographic very well. Buy both and don't expect Apple to cater to cheapskates. They never will.
I don't understand: The new IPAD OS Pro or Mac mode, it's just your own opinion or wish, or it's a kinda leak you've got somehow?
Apple should allow VMs to be used on the iPad Pro, and you could then side load the ARM Windows 11 and Linux to access the apps like KiCAD and Blender which aren’t available natively.
you don't want full power utilization, that's an older paradigm when you needed to have max power for doing anything, now power is overflowing, you can run multiple games at the same time on these ipads, the benefit of not using full power is if one of those games crashes the whole ipad doesnt crash, you can force close the app and keep using the ipad, max power would mean freezing and black screens and bricking
I agree that a hybrid iPadOS for M series iPad Pro would be a game changer. It would hurt some MacBook sales but the new iPads with the Apple Pencil and the new Apple keyboard costs about the same.
If they did that would be my deciding factor to get the iPad Pro. If not I’m sticking with the old iPad Air I already have and my pc personally.
I don’t think it’ll be coming to anything before the M1. It would be nice. But they have M4s they have to sell. I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if A12X/Z got shafted here
You got 👍 from me just for saying "Apple wants you to buy 2 products not 1" I always thought that myself. I would buy the m4 iPad pro in a heart beat if it had Mac Os.
iPad will not get macOS. They wouldn’t have showed off Logic Pro 2 app and Final Cut 2 app. Just to give you access to MacOS. I think ipadOS18 will remove some developer restrictions so we will be able to code more efficiently give us more access to internal files
I have been waiting for something like this on the iPad. Since apple won't ever put a MacOS on the iPads, this hybrid would be great!
Although my personal hope was someway to connect to my Mac - like a glorified remote desktop.
Can always hope, but will only believe if Apple themself announce! I don’t want macOS itself, just the ability to download and run applications made for macOS, even if they only work with the Magic Keyboard and without touch.
I’ve been thinking for quite a long time that Apple need to combine the iPad OS with Mac OS! It would be awesome to have a full touch screen Mac with a detachable keyboard style device, especially with all the power the new iPads have and able to use the various Apple pencils too!
Ideal would be macOS mode when it is connected to magic keyboard and iPadOS when in tablet mode..
Same end of May question each year since iPad Pro M1 was released. Unfortunately.
Will this come to M2 pro ipad too! , I have the 256gb M2 ipad, I really want to know, should I buy the new M4 one or M2 is still a good one to stay with?
If this hybrid OS could allow for productivity software (mainly Microsoft office) to finally have full desktop capabilities then I would be satisfied
I would looooooovve the new M4 iPad
I’d love it if they either combined the two OS’s in a way that incapacitates the best qualities of the two OS’s. Failing that, just give us the ability to install the Mac OS on the iPad Pro at least. Give us incentive to but the 1 or 2 gig iPad Pro. Really don’t see the incentive to play angry birds. Even the video editing software doesn’t task the M1 iPads currently. With a Mac OS, we’d be able to install A1 games and play on our mobile.
I am gonna be sad if I don’t get this on my m2 iPad Pro.
Why? I have one as well and idc. May as well get a mac or laptop instead.
@@HermesBlRD Because I paid good money for it and the m2 chip fully capable. Instead apple would block users and only release it to the m4 chip, forcing people to buy the latest product if they want the new features. Putting an m2 chip in an iPad was overkill and m4 is just omegaOverKill...
I think honestly MacOS Should just be on the ipad pros. With the ipad os being on the non pro models.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks iPad needs to run MacOS app. I don't need it to run dual boot OS like other people are suggesting, but at bare minimum, it needs to be able to run all MacOS app in order for me to considering buying iPad Pro at all. I need for it to replace my Macbook Air, not as a supplement. We currently have M3 Pro and M3 Max chip for Macbook, that could be good enough reason for people to still buy Macbook if they need more computing power. No more excuse Apple! Start supporting MacOS app for iPad now!
I would *love* Mac Mode or an iPadOS that can take more advantage of the M series chips. Your point about Apple not wanting people to pick between an iPad Pro or a MacBook is why I think even they are struggling with what to do with iPadOS.
I would love a more macOS-like system on the iPad (it doesn't have to be the real macOS, but more macOS-like), but I really don't see it happening in the foreseeable future. Heck, I'd love it if they just put the clock on the right side, like in macOS lol,
I guess they’d like to ad Mac OS mode, but probably want to phase out the old ipad models first
Yes, but let us hope that Apple releases a more capable iOS before the release of the M5! ;) My M1 purchase that I made some years ago was nice, but it never lived up to its full potential due to the iOS. I do love my new M4 iPad Pro, but I bought it with limited expectations that the M4 16GB RAM/1TB SSD would ever be more than its introduction capabilities.
if you buy ipad pro and apples keyboard they should allow you to get macos on ipad, no reworked ipados.. the reason for macos is the Apps that already is in macos.. mac can run ios apps, then why not viseversa?
also folders and opennes of macos
I would love to have full fledged Microsoft office available on IPad Pro, with a real cursor. Also, a true desktop browser with a real cursor As a sales person, that would allow me to keep PC at home when I am on the road.
I don‘t understand why they don‘t include a run-mode. Even for iPhones. Choose the run mode on the fly, or on boot. There is really no problem to include something like this. But they don‘t want.
