Ooh nice analysis. Never noticed those things about Dive Back In Time. Here's some things I've noticed :3 Vortex: The gun at the beginning is pointed at Xixi's bear. When the art style becomes painterly, for a few frames you can see something yellow shoot or cut through Cheng Xiaoshi with a blue coloured blood-like effect. Either represents his death, or him being wounded near the end of the season. Easy to miss if you dont watch that bit slowed down. When the reflection shatters, each piece shows a different facial expression, but the one on the right side of the screen is brighter and looks shocked. Represents Lu Guang's multiple timelines? Emma falls off the building when the song reverses. The Tides: Heard a few fans saying imagery might be based on a film adaptation of The Time Machine by HG Wells, where a man tries to save his wife, named Emma. If so, this ending could also be trying to convey the parallels between Emma and Cheng Xiaoshi. Overthink: At some point there is a shot of Lu Guang's hand gestures from when he explained unchangable nodes in s1e4. There is also a forest texture overlaid onto them. Dive back in time: The film tape is wrapped loosely around Cheng Xiaoshi. In comparison when Xixi dies the film tape is tightly restraining her. Maybe he still has a chance? Or at least a bit more time? Forest imagery seems to be a recurring thing. In Vortex, Lu Guang, Li Tianchen, and Qiao Ling are depicted in a forest. It is also used in Overthink. It also appears in the background when Lu Guang recalls Cheng Xiaoshi's death. Wonder what it means.
Also the clothes. In season 1 they never changed but in season 2 they changed a lot and didn't wear the s1 clothes. This shows that CX death occurred in s1 timeline or before. GIRL i watched this song called "FLASH" LG sings - *"you are the reason I live but you don't remember me."* In ep 1 LG is wiping a bottle but when CX mentions hanging himself, LG pauses and calls him idiot but it's deep, angry, dragged. Someone said in overthink the stars represent many dimensions/ outcomes but everything turns to dust(useless) given it's existential crisis lyrics at the end. Also ppl saying s2 changed trajectory and it was bullshit/ass are blinder than CX in op 1 with the film covering his eyes literally. Like wth did they think Emma's death was in 1st and last episode showing everything was connected and led to this😭☠.
In the full version of the 2nd ending you see the man desperately trying to start up the machine and then being shot by a bunch of people who come into the room so maybe lu guang ends up dying as on his mission to save cheng xiaoshi Them both being dead would be a pretty sad ending which doesn't seem too out of character for link click
@@VIVIDLIE Its uploaded by a channel called something like "made by bilibili" and the title is something like "link click season 2 ed is released!" you should be able to find it if u look for something like that on yt
I love this and I'd like to draw attention to the fact that the inventor in the large fresco has a mechanical set of wings which likely represent the time machine, further evidence to support the theory that he returns to the past with the machine to save the girl. I'd also like to mention the artificial nature of the wings resemble the style of wings Lu Guang is portrayed with in some of the official art!
Oh wow I hadn’t noticed that, so interesting! (If I’m looking at the right art) Lu Guangs wings are more bat-like/demonic while Cheng Xiaoshi’s are feathered/angelic, which is an intriguing detail in its own right - but the way it then matches up with the painting is perfect!
Whats crazy is that this reminds me of all the other anime and manga that Ive read where no matter how many times the MC would try yo save someone that they knew, loved, and cared it about, it was just their fate to die. And fate is the hardest thing to chnage since it DOES transcends time and space
All I know when the story ends is gonna make us all cry. It’s really going to hurt like it’s obvious someone’s gonna die. I’m not naming names, but I think you are right now.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
the second ending is also a reference to the book called the time machine by h.g. wells and iirc the machine at the end is supposed to be a reference to the time machine that was from the book actually coincidentally in the 2002 film the time traveller had a fiancee named emma
So I have a theory based on a shot in Vortex, at 0:43 (I think) when Lu and the killer are spinning around, there’s a look of either recognition or realization or something on Lu’s face. And at first I thought it meant he knew the killer, but what if it’s either him realizing this timeline was doomed, which is why he doesn’t make another appearance until the rooftop, where he supposedly goes to the “original” timeline, or he figured something out about the true mastermind. It might be nothing, but I still think he knows something about the mastermind, but maybe not!
This doesn’t haven anything to do with an op from the show, but it’s just something interesting I noticed while watching ep 12. When cheng xiaoshi got shot, I’m pretty sure in a frame the blood splatter wasn’t at the waist, where he was shot, but instead in his heart. Maybe that could be Lu guang being reminded of when he failed to save cheng xiaoshi and he died. I will add the time frame for the scene later.
Maybe it's just a discrepancy in the animation, but right after Xixi dies in ep 12 and Qiao Ling sees all the memories, Lu Guang is being lifted on the right side by Captain Xiao, facing towards Ling and Xixi. After she sees the memories, he is being lifted on the left side facing away from Xixi and Ling.
LG managed to safe CX this time from the node where he gets killed by QJ (bad ex cop). He is terrified at first he didn't manage to safe him at this node and later when they go out from he hospital he is afraid what new way of death will CX experience this time.
the ed of s2 has so many references of the movie "The Time Machine" of Herbert George Wells, lu guang and chen xiaoshi investigate the home of the creator of the time machine of this novel/movie, how this man was obsece to rescue his lover of the hands of death every rewind of time. (we can see all the house is dusty but with so many pictures of his lover and his wish to save her) and the machine is found for the two of them
I absolutely love it especially your analysis of the museum ending. It's mindblowingly accurate and so well covered, but once you look past CX being represented by a girl the rest makes perfect sense. It's all queer coded (danmei coded in case of Chinese media :)) as well, but ah... I need to rewatch it once again. This donghua is way better than it looks like. Thank you for your hard work and keep it up. I subscribe.
Here's a small pronounciation guide as a Chinese person: - Cheng Xiaoshi: (hard CH)-ung See-ow Sher(*light* r) *not 'she' but like 'sherman' with the e - Lu Guang: (you pretty much nailed it) Loo Gu-ong - Xiao Ling: See-ow Ling
@@VIVIDLIE ofc it's no problem :) The guide is more in tune with the actual chinese pronounciation instead of the anglicanized ones you'd find in books lol. If it's still troubling you, I'd 100% recommend watching videos that show you how the individual characters are pronounced.
The wall can like up with the 3 attempts though! When you said there’s only 3 spots left, those 3 could be lu guang’s last chance + the 3 stated in overthink
this is super good, i never actually watch the intros, nor would i have ever thought to analyze them, super good video! i love it!!! Just saying, the the shi in Xiaoshi is pronounced like "shr"
Ah these theories are too good 😭! I can only hope that Link Click ends in a good ending :’) I really don’t want Cheng Xiaoshi to die😢 I’d actually prefer if both Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang die just so they can be in the afterlife together, maybe along with the rest too! I also hope that Tianxi comes back, but from what I’ve seen, she’s 100% dead. But just a reminder that we don’t know who Liu Xiao is fully, so it could be that Liu Xiao has photo powers too. And maybe JUST maybe that they all survive and its happy 😭
In addition to the points made about this in the video: When Cheng Xiaoshi's eyes are covered by the film, also note the parallel to when Emma's photo was shown on the news and there was a black censorship bar across her eyes (and the whole "hiding identities" thing that goes along with that). Do you have any thoughts about the symbolism behind the different cameras the characters are shown using? The make/model of camera they've each been paired with seems like a very intentional and meaningful artistic choice. (I haven't watched your other videos yet, so if you've covered this elsewhere, I'll get there!)
There is one more video that can help solidify these theories. Its the music video for a vortex/Overthink mashup (can't remember the exact name)but it does have some interesting visuals
There are a couple lyrics that weren’t in the original songs but added in the mash up - more about rewinding time to save someone. The most interesting point is that it specifically talks about changing important occurrences in the timeline and not being able to return to your original time because of it. The ‘vortex’ is described like it’s a space outside of time, created by really messing up fate. Would be interesting to see if that comes into play in the show! Other than that it’s just the same sentiment repeated again.
