Not only did he lose his damn mind at the thought of her being hurt, she was shot to death episode 3. They've mentioned how people with abilities can take a lot of damage and heal, but a regular person? That never felt right. (and writers love to do that stuff, what you didn't guess she was dead? I killed her myself right from the start!)

Very true! I mean Syromyatnikov literally used ‘Sigma’ as his pen name, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was actually the inspiration. I couldn’t find much information on him aside from that and I really like the Freud theory so I ran with that for the video. I haven’t heard of Prus so I’ll look into that!
Someone said it’s Ian Fleming (Author of James Bond) because the episode Sigma first appeared was called Skyfall and that’s actually a movie called Skyfall, which is a James Bond movie and also hes the manager of a casino and there’s a movie called Casino Royale. Sigma’s ability is an ability where he exchanges information, and if you don’t know, that’s basically what spies do (James Bond is a spy novel). And also Sigma’s appearance is strikingly similar to James Bond’s white suit. Their backstories are quite different but also quite similar. James Bond is an orphan who finds out what “home” is , and it’s ironically called Skyfall and Sigma debuted in a book where he’s surrounded in a vast area until he founds a house, which is similar to the home of James Bond. And also fun fact throughout the show there are some ppl in BSD that uses weaponry (like swords, guns) but the person to use the most weaponry is Sigma, which is guns. James Bond uses guns a lot for his fights and he’s known for his wacky explosive devices which is what Sigma used a lot during the Skyfall arc. And also there’s this one manga panel where the gun Sigma uses to shoot LOOKS strikingly familiar to James Bond gun that he always uses (Walther 99). Doesn’t that sound familiar? It’s one of James Bond famous guns that he uses in almost every movie poster. And also Sigma considers himself to be an “ordinary man” which is what Fleming wanted for James Bond’s character when he made him. (Fun Fact: Fleming got the name James Bond from a real life guy!). Literally Sigma’s desire is to value his own home where no one can reach him, similar to Bond’s desire about his privacy. Another thing would like to mention is that (SPOILERS) in the Casino Royale novel, James Bond was interrogated and tortured by a Russian organisation SMERSH, which is the main antagonist of the series. Towards the end of the series they carved a letter ‘Ш’ on Bond’s back hand and that means ‘spy’. This was mainly used as a tool to recognise Bond. The Greek equivalent to Ш is Σ which is Sigma. Both of these symbols come directly from the same original character, “Shin”. There we go. I think that’s a flag where Sigma is Ian Fleming. Another note is that in the manga, Sigma mentions two customers, Mao and Lazarus, but in the anime he mentions three customers, Richard Lazarus, Adolf Getler and Mao Fleming. (Fun Fact: Fleming is the author’s name of the series so that makes a suspicion). Oh and, Adolf Getler, who is anime original, was actually a character in the Casino Royale, who is the one that killed Vesper in novel and movie. So there we go, Sigma is Ian Fleming.
Sigmund Freud is not even based on Sigma. In IRL hes a neurologist and in BSD literally every character is based on a real author. Sergei Syromyatnikov’s only evidence being Sigma is his name. Not that much info other than him being a journalist. Which like I said, BSD is based on real authors. Ian Fleming theory is the only accurate theory because Sigma’s first debut and arc was literally a James Bond reference (Ironically the episode Sigma debuted is called ‘Skyfall’ which is a movie). Sigma being amnesiac is like how Bond in the final novel, kills off a villain, but in exchange he suffered from amnesia, and as a result, was left living in Japan as a different identity until he returned to England one day only to find out he is dead. This is a callback to when Sigma was being born out of the book and the fact that he had amnesia. And also Bond had a symbol similar to Sigma being carved out of his hand, which is used to be identified by an evil organisation. When you try to translate it, it means “Sigma”. Ironic right? And also BSD villains arc are based on countries, (S1 being Japanese, S2 being American, S3 being Russian, S4 being European and Japanese and S5 being European and Japanese as well) Nikolai is said to be the only author who’s based in European so far so Sigma should be European as well.
Not only Bolesław Prus but also Julian Tuwim! Especially mostly because of Julians alias (one of many) being Sigma! I personally do belive in this one theory, it just makes sense to me lol
i like to headcanon all the bsd characters are still novelists/poets, like, "oh my god, did you know fyodor dostoevsky got caught by the police and is now in mersault?" then the other person just says "yeah, but more importantly, did you read the brothers karamazov, its so good!"
I'm just gonna throw out there that my boy Akutagawa's outfit going from black to beigey/brown after his ultimate sacrifice and then cure fits the clothing theory quite well!
I can't believe I already know/read 90% of the facts mentioned in this video- I need to touch grass- But I love love loved the video!! It's so hard to find any bsd essay content in YT!!
The gender swap in the cases of Koyo and Kyouka coulde be due to the stories which give name to their abilities, beacuse the designs of BSD characters are inspire in the designs of the protagonist of famous books. In the case of Koyo, Golden Demon, has Miya Shigisawa (a woman who wants to marry a rich guy due to her family's debts but falls in love with another man), as a main character. While, in Kyouka's case, Demon Snow is a convination of two books Shirayuki-Hime (Princess Snow White) and Demon Lake, who has Yuri (a woman who beacmes the Princess shirayuki, the spirit of a lake) as the protagonist.
The Tanizaki theory makes me wonder if he'll be the one transferred to the Port Mafia? He seems sort of two sided and Hirotsu even said that his ability is well suited for an assassin.
This was a VERY well researched analysis, thank you for your hard work!!! I enjoyed listening to that. Until the last "theory" parts, i agreed to this. But there are too many arguments against pretty all of these theories, i don't this that any of them are true. - Related to Fukuzawa: Atsushi and Kenji had plenty of time now to get a feeling for their abilities and learn to adjust it. So in any case, it would just bring them a middle-power up and Kenji won't feel hungry or outpowered anymore. - To Tanizaki: Fukuzawa "can" surpress abilities, which doesn't mean he has to. Idk which weird person came up with the Naomi idea. If she was a illusion, she wouldnt get hit, would eat or could grab other people... and i don't think that Tanizakis ability has a 1km range. Naomi was plenty times far away. - To Dazai's bandages: We saw in the BSD Dazai/Chuuya 15 panel, that he had already bandages on his arms, but not on his throat when he awakened in Moris clinic. Mori should be the one who made the ones on his arms, which leads to a suicide attempt that had to be threatened and failed. Mori would have taken them off if he saw there is no injury under them as a doctor and there would be already existing before he came. Since it is a great pain if you slit it up and don't die, Dazai was traumatized due to the pain and i think its a measure and solution to prevent himself from ever doing this again. Also, we all know that he doesn't really want to kill himself for real at all after he gave it a second thought. Some injuries here and now won't kill anyone so easily and the PM does a good job protecting him in fear to fail in front of the cold blooded genius. No longer human isn't related to himself in the anime like his real life counterpart, it's to stop people that are acting no longer human trough their abilities. Since Fyodor seems to be immortal through an ability already by the newest chapter, Dazai won't be the same at all.
TW sh, I want to know more about why Dazia wears bandages, but I don't think it's to hide scars, I've heard people say he sh on Twitter and such, but I really don't think he does because he hates pain, I have no theories on why he wears them. I mean, it would make sense if he were to wear them to remind him not to do it because it is painful but I'm not sure. Like he's smart enough to know that will hurt because he's been stabbed before. But I don't know, those are my thoughts. Maybe he really isn't human and is hiding something underneath. But as I said, I don't know.
@@The_R3AL_Akutagawa it could make sense since Oda got him to change to the good, but he wasn't really Dazai's mentor unlike Mori. Oda was more like Dazai's best friend/companion.
I've never watched your videos before, but I do love BSD and my boyfriend is obsessed with it. Got absolutely THROWN at the beginning cause you sound a bit like him.

Another thing is that Bond got manipulated into thinking he committed global terrorism himself by a Russian terrorist (Similar to Fyodor manipulating Sigma that he's a terrorist). Another theory is that in one of the novels, Bond goes to Japan to assassinate a Russian villain at a castle. So he does his shit, and he fights him, kills him and the castle blows up. He suffers from amnesia as a result. Few months later, he returned back to England and only to find out his entire life was written in a book (Sounds familiar? IT WAS WHERE SIGMA WAS BORN OUT OF THE BOOK!! TFFFF). So there we go, Sigma is Ian Fleming. See ya guys bye
it is quite rare, to stumble upon some quality content which is straight to the point. amazing video, the research and analysis are beyond just praiseworthy! im gonna stay here to watch this channel receive the large audience that it deserves
I've been waiting for a deep dive analysis on bsd! I love this video and I even learned some new things despite being in the fandom for a while now! (Specifically last year.) Keep up the good content! 💜
This was such a good video!!! bsd has been constantly occupying a portion of my mind since I first watched it in 2020, and i'd like to think i know almost everything you can know about it. I saw this video pop up on my homepage and went "BET", but there were actually a few things I didn't know! the ranpo pen name and the junichiro theories were very interesting, in particular. I've heard the "naomi is dead" theory before, but this explanation actually made sense to me, unlike a few others i've heard. it's so nice to see deep bsd videos like this!!!! i LOVE video essays, but (good) ones on bsd are few and far between. I will definitely be subscribing and checking out your other work! ps: what are your thoughts (if you're familiar with them) on the "dazai is the old pm boss's son" and "natsume is the author of the Book" theories?
Thank you so much! I’m glad I was able to show you something new. I like the Dazai one a lot as a theory, but I doubt it’s true. I haven’t read the newest novel as it’s not officially released in Aus yet, but from what I understand, it’s about when Dazai joined the mafia so that will probably confirm/deny it. I hadn’t heard about the Natsume one before this, but after researching I’m pretty convinced he did. It makes sense as to why he knows so much and is so set on protecting Yokohama, because the book is stored there. Now I’m mad because I didn’t know about this before making the video hahaha
@@VIVIDLIE if you're referring to the day i picked up dazai, it's not about when dazai joined the mafia (edit: when he was fourteen mori picked him up and he joined officially at fifteen, iirc); rather, it's about when he was sixteen and first met odasaku! timeline-wise, i /think/ it's after stormbringer, but take that with a grain of salt. neither confirmation nor denial for this particular theory :(
i remember when i somehow just stumbled into an article talking about verlaine and rimbaud, i was genuinely just shocked the whole time. if you haven’t read about it in detail, i’d highly encourage that you do
17:20 I DID NOT KNOW THAT! I thought his power was giving the agency members the ability to control their special abilities. I didn’t know that his ability was basically weakening their ability to a point where they could control it. The idea that Tanizaki’s power is just being weakened and is actually way more powerful is crazy, but also makes sense because he said his power isn’t built for combat but then like the same episode or smth were shown that it IS! Built for combat and he clearly knows how to utilize it to such a degree. But maybe he doesn’t fight because Fukuzawa knows he’d become unstable at the sight of Naomi getting hurt, who could be an illusion as well, but she might be actually real considering wouldn’t she just disappear after Atsushi (who was mind controlled) attacked her, that or Tanizaki’s ability might actually be more powerful than we realize if it can still hold up after Naomi is attacked no wonder if might be suppressed by Fukuzawa. Like imagine Tamizaki’s ability being one of the most powerful in the series, and might be strong enough like the infinite tsukiyomi (I forgot how to spell it and am too lazy to check 😭 sorry)
15:30 i honestly find the sigma is named after freud theory hard to believe and not just because freud fucking sucks. for one, most, if not all of the bsd characters are named after people who are primarily known as poets or novelists, not scientists or theorists. to me, it seems more likely that sigma isn't really based off of anyone at all and is simply an enigma in terms of bsd naming. yes, all the other characters with abilities are named after authors BUT sigma was literally written into existence. he could be loosely named after a character of whoever wrote him into the book (or maybe he was written into existence by some greek guy and this is a very very loose bit of foreshadowing) or maybe he really is just an entirely unique character who isn't really based on anything pre-existing.
My own personal headcaonnon for Lovecraft is that in bsd's universe octopuses are really aliens and Lovecraft is an octopus Fitgerald made a deal with. It's a silly headcannon but I just can't shake it off my head anymore, it's like it's been carved in stone
I just want to tell my crazy theory, what if the azure king was actually kunikida from the other universe? The same universe as the other fukuchi come from. Even tough it's actually confirmed that the same appearance between kunikida and the azure king were deliberately to show that they have the same ideals, but for me it doesn't make sense. Maybe the azure king come to saving sasaki bcuz in the other universe they were a couple and sasaki died the same as canon. Maybe???? Oh and there's another one (spoiler for 55 minutes) Gab uses Wells 's ability to come back to the past, but i thought, he doesn't come back to the past but rather come to another alternatives(?) Bcus if it's the same Wells I thought the ability wouldn't work anymore to Gab. But it's make sense, bcuz if Gab come back to the past, Well's ability can still work to him. Btw, I thought Wells's ability is kinda unique, bcuz if she wanted to improve, she needs another person to come back to the past and repeat, and the improvement can only be feel by that person that come back to the past. This happened to Gab and I used Atsushi as a comparison. But there's a theory, in the novel, Wells said to Atsushi that there's no second chance for him. I have two assumptions for this, firstly, Wells did not know that her ability could be used many times, but not for herself, but for other people, this could explain why Wells warned Atsushi. And secondly, Wells was afraid that his powers would be used carelessly and she deliberately warned Atsushi so that Atsushi would not mess with her abilities. Is it possible that he had trauma during the war that used his abilities to win the war until she finally ran away? Who knows. Back to Gab, whenever he uses Wells's ability, the time is getting longer, right? What if the ability is actually realizes that someone is using it? Because the time is getting longer even until years. If the time is repeated, the ability wouldn't even realize it. Oh, and there's the last, maybe this is count as a plot hole but, how Dazai even survived this? I mean, he has an ability to nullifying any other abilites, like in s5 that Dazai told Sigma that he can stop the time, it's because another user's ability and Dazai is the only one who can move. Does he even realizes that the time is repeated? And that's it! (I'm writting this in the middle of night LMAO) Thanks 4 reading😊😊
A thing abt the fukuzawa theory i rly wanna say: i think that this theory is very true and it seems even more true ehen you think about the ‘dazai getting out of the agency theory’. If it is true that fukuzawas ability being endangered could cause further problems its safe to say that being around dazai would be torture; taking in the fact that he has to stay warrant of touching him. Although it would be bad if dazai was his ‘enemy’ (a member of the mafia), it wouldn’t be as bad as it is right now, considering he won’t have to be in the same workspace as him every single day. This only goes further when we look at dazais current mental state. He is hurt and is hurting, no matter how many times he’s smiled. The thought of not being wanted coming with the fact that he really isn’t wanted (by fukuzawa) is a great way of displaying reality and it’s constant torture.
6:02 If I had a nickel for every time HG Wells was reimagined as a female character, I'd have two nickels between BSD and Warehouse 13. I find that quite interesting
Here's an interesting fact: Sango's pseudonym means 35, like you said. That's also the number of people that Kyouka killed in the Port Mafia. "My name is Izumi Kyōka. I've killed 35 people. And I don't want to kill again." Dazai told her it was a rookie number...
1:24 in japanese the 7th, in english the 9th light novel is the gaiden/ Another story. What you talked about is a totally different rhing, doesn't count in the main light novels (if you count that one, you also should count the "Kunikida and Katai's magnificent days short story- expect that one matters more, that written by Asagiri, and not just a story retelling)
Looking at Amazon, what they’re counting as light novel 9 is definitely a retelling of the anime. I have never seen a Gaiden novel, but maybe it’s just not available in my country? If you know a website that sells it I’d love to know. Also never heard of a novel about Kunikida and Katai! Do you know where I can find it??
@@VIVIDLIE the Gaiden light novel just recently got a translation, and a little forgotten in the fandom, people more talk about the manga- I believe it's on the yenpress's website. The Kunikida-Katai story is a short story, like the Heartless dog, but while that one was in the manga, this one (if I remember correctly) it was given to the people as a gift when the Dead apple was in the movie theatres. I have a fantranslation tho from it, it's kinda a lost media within the fandom xdd
My personal headcannon that I made up on the spot the first time I watched bsd and just doesn't see to want to leave my brain is that Lovecraft is an octopus and octopuses are actually aliens in the bsd universe
Wow that was pretty good explanation!! Btw I have a Question!👀?? 18:43 Where did that clip came from FROM WHICH EPISODE??? where did u find it !!??😐 I didn’t saw that clip in any season of bsd ! So is it a fake edit??? / 18:43

Actually, there's another queer character, the irl Nikolai Gogol was queer and fought with his own sexuality, he was disgusted by himself and thats why Fyolai canon (and one sided but canon) you cannot stop me now
He was but he absolutely despised himself because of it, so I didn’t include him. Putting someone who hated being gay in the queer representation section feels weird to me.
The theory "Naomi dead" would actually be cannon because of tanizaki and Naomi clothing as we see that tanizaki told atsushi in season 1 that he is still in school but why is Naomi clothes a school girl clothe but tanizaki isn't (some people say that after tanizaki loss Naomi he's memory is kinda...not okay thats why he doesn't remember he's sister death Naomi clothing are school clothing because she died when she was in school) also some people say the reason why Naomi doesn't disappear when dazai touches tanizaki (ya know cuz she's a illusion) it's because her soul/conscious has been connected to the illusion (this is so damn long but I love BSD theory and story alot :) )
Most of the deeper theories are kind of now debunked as shown in recent chapters of the BSD manga, like fyodor's ability is fricking body swapping and Naomi probably comes from another family and IS real.
There is no English version, but if you still want to play: -The best way would be to download the DMM Games launcher on your pc and play from there! - Otherwise, there is an app version for IOS and Android, but you need to set your AppStore region to Japan to access it. There’s tutorials on RUclips for that.

18:03 I mean we see Dazai grabbing Naomi in Atsushi entrance exam. If she was an illusion she would have just dissapeared
i like to headcanon all the bsd characters are still novelists/poets, like, "oh my god, did you know fyodor dostoevsky got caught by the police and is now in mersault?" then the other person just says "yeah, but more importantly, did you read the brothers karamazov, its so good!"
I'm just gonna throw out there that my boy Akutagawa's outfit going from black to beigey/brown after his ultimate sacrifice and then cure fits the clothing theory quite well!
Do you have a pic of his new coat? I keep seeing his beast one

Same here! I was searching for one around 2 weeks ago and I couldn't find anything :(

Omg I've had a similar theory about naomi for the longest time-
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees how terrifying tanizaki is TwT
8:46. This moment really highlighted the whole video for me
The gender swap in the cases of Koyo and Kyouka coulde be due to the stories which give name to their abilities, beacuse the designs of BSD characters are inspire in the designs of the protagonist of famous books.
RANPO BEING GAY IS CANON?!!
💀💀
For Poe.
kunikida better not die, hes like the one character i want to survive :/

how are you today
This aged like milk
20:40 "he really should be dead"
well since you asked-
dazai (irl) dated a guy at 15 years old who was very short...
also, Nikolai Gogol (irl) was queer and really struggled with it
also, some people think that Dazai's coat is beige because he's subconsciously trying to mimic Oda, who was the best person of all to him
@@watchmefailhorribly is that not Odas coat he's wearing?
@@The_R3AL_Akutagawa oda's coat is shorter and lighter, and it also resembles more of a suit.
@@chemicallycalm5878 I thought he was wearing Odas coat because before he was wearing Moris coat and then he gave it to Akutagawa
Theory: Someone said it’s Ian Fleming (Author of James Bond) because the episode Sigma first appeared was called Skyfall and that’s actually a movie called Skyfall, which is a James Bond movie and also hes the manager of a casino and there’s a movie called Casino Royale.
And also fun fact throughout the show there are some people in BSD that uses weaponry (like swords, guns) but the person to use the most weaponry is Sigma, which is guns.
Really random, but I would highly recommend Tsujimura's book, The Lonely Castle in the Mirror. It's really good.
it is quite rare, to stumble upon some quality content which is straight to the point. amazing video, the research and analysis are beyond just praiseworthy! im gonna stay here to watch this channel receive the large audience that it deserves

I've been waiting for a deep dive analysis on bsd! I love this video and I even learned some new things despite being in the fandom for a while now! (Specifically last year.)
Keep up the good content!
@@VIVIDLIE if you're referring to the day i picked up dazai, it's not about when dazai joined the mafia (edit: when he was fourteen mori picked him up and he joined officially at fifteen, iirc); rather, it's about when he was sixteen and first met odasaku! timeline-wise, i /think/ it's after stormbringer, but take that with a grain of salt. neither confirmation nor denial for this particular theory :(
Oh interesting! I really need to read it lol
i remember when i somehow just stumbled into an article talking about verlaine and rimbaud, i was genuinely just shocked the whole time. if you haven’t read about it in detail, i’d highly encourage that you do

Your channel is very underrated, great video
Sigma could also be the Russian author Sergey Syromyatnikov who called himself sigma as pseudonym.
I think my weirdly favorite theory is tied between Naomi never existed or dazi is blind in his right eye
Could you explain the dazai one?
In flashbacks dazi has his right eye covered in bandages. It was theorized that he was blind in that eye

Such a good thumbnail. I love all the little additions
THANK YOU SO GLAD THAT I GET TO SEE SUCH LONG VIDEO ABT MY OBSSESSION
That ending about Kunakida possible death didn’t age well
It did not indeed
😭😭😭
Personally I really like the theory that Dazai is blind in one eye, but he just goes like nothing happened
nice video! I like all the theorys (only the Fyodor's Ability) but if you can do more videos like this i would love to see it!

haha kunikida has a lot of death flags but surely he wouldn't actually die y'know :) hahaha what are you talking about
"he really should be dead"

Maybe????
Oh and there's another one (spoiler for 55 minutes)
Gab uses Wells 's ability to come back to the past, but i thought, he doesn't come back to the past but rather come to another alternatives(?) Bcus if it's the same Wells I thought the ability wouldn't work anymore to Gab.
Man i was gonna make my own bsd iceberg vid was researching and all guess you beat me to it 😅
Aye. It’s not too late
7:05 it's funny to me how it was just revealed in the manga 😭
masterpiece writing
6:02 If I had a nickel for every time HG Wells was reimagined as a female character, I'd have two nickels between BSD and Warehouse 13. I find that quite interesting
15:57 it’s more likely that he is inspired by ian fleming!

"My name is Izumi Kyōka. I've killed 35 people. And I don't want to kill again."
Dazai told her it was a rookie number...

Is the theory the the abilitys are living being been confirmed or denied yet?
Not fought up with the manga
I was hoping there would be a theory on fukuchi cuz I made one of my own on him and mentioned it in my previous video.
