Kratos is the champion. In the vision, the Champion is depicted holding a spear in one hand and gjallarhorn in the other. It was Kratos who blew gjallarhorn and had the draupnir spear with him as he marched on towards Asgard with a combined army of all realms. When Atreus assumed the champion was him, Kratos tells him "you assume too much" and Mimir says something like "Aye, best not to read into these abstractions so literally. Prophecies are slippery by nature." It's like the GoW team hinting at us saying it is not who Atreus thinks it is.

"I won't allow prophecy to define my choices"
I love how that quote gains a whole new meaning once you find out about the twist of Tyr. Without the context of that twist, it just seemed like "Tyr" speaking his intent to remain true to his newfound "pacifism", but after finding out about the twist, it takes a new meaning that Odin intends to remain true to his character and stay on the path of his objective. It's very subtle but also clever at the same time.

Fun little detail the devs did to differentiate Odin and the real Tyr. If you look closely at the subtitle here, the “Tyr” here doesn’t have an accent symbol on his name (which he should) but if you save the REAL Tyr, the subtle shows the accent symbol above the Y on his name showing he’s the real deal. The dev’s gave us a huge clue right there and none of us realized it because some of us probably didn’t know Tyr had that accent in his name to begin with, GENIUS! Well done Santa Monica

"Tyr" here does not have an accent over the "y", but when you can rescue the real Týr in Niflheim after you finish the game, it actually does have the accent over the "y" in the subtitles when he speaks. It's definitely intentional too I believe, they seem to take spelling things correctly in dialog and the journal very seriously, e.g. they use "ð" and "Ð" where accurate instead of just a "d" which is often an easy stand-in. A tiny, seemingly incredibly insignificant detail, but hinting it's not really him from the very moment you meet "Tyr".

I think it’s clear that when Kratos said you assume too much about the identity of the champion, He realized that interpretations of prophecy can become erratic and unclear which is why his message to Atreus throughout this game is “Fate only binds you if you let it, Do what is necessary, not because it is written”, he understands more than any of the characters in this game that prophecy is a tool for control and a scapegoat for not taking control of ones life/fate. Post game I don’t think Kratos is the champion I think he will occupy many monikers and titles within various mythologies depending on the story being told.

I can’t help but noticed she lied twice. She originally lied to Odin and now them. She knew Odin would of seen this and for the sake kratos, Atreus, etc they left them to lead their own path

Just realised that "Týr" in the prophecy was probably Kratos. A God of War was probably all that it needed to be. He had Gjallarhorn in the prophecy and Kratos ended up being the one to use it in the end. So everytime it was Týr in the murals and prophecies then I guess Kratos just gets inserted instead.

This is the moment Odin knows he is screwed.
Yes, his enemies fight each other but they all have one thing in common: they all want to kill Odin and tear him apart.

I love how Odin basically does a surprised Pikachu face because the person he interrogated to destroy or subjugate everyone she ever cared for lied to him.

I like even after Kratos sees Odin dies, he doesn’t completely buy into the idea of prophecy. He’s consistent about being extremely skeptical of prophecy even if it’s siding with him

The champion wielded not one spear, but several, it was Kratos the whole time and the game teased before we even got the spear

The Champion wasn't wielding the spear, the God of War was. Both characters have very different designs. The spears around the champion, like the arrows also flying, symbolised the battle before Ragnarok. The God of War was a separate character that actually physically wields Draupnir and the Gjallarhorn.

I love that in the prophecy, "Tyr" is shown to be the one who leads in Ragnarök. In the actual Ragnarök, it is Kratos that leads the armies.
Which means that in the prophecy, the Tyr character is not literally meant to be Tyr himself, it is a representation of the God of War.
This even misleads Kratos into thinking that he is not present in any of this Ragnarök prophecy even though he is, just not in the shown form.
Well played Santa Monica Studios, damn well played.

4:39 You can see 'Tyr' under emphasizing Odin's evil doings by calling them just 'misdeeds' rather than crimes.

Atreus is the Champion and Kratos is the God of War. Both character on the shrine are clearly designed differently. The Champion has a simpler design whereas the God of War has more body parts, a beard, and wields the Gjallarhorn and Draupnir. The reason spears and arrows fall around the champion is because he is in battle, not because he is wielding Draupnir. They are both different characters and are played by Atreus and Kratos respectively.

3:43 Did I just hear Odin's theme? God, the subtle hints are so easy to miss, despite the ammount of times i have replayed this game
