I've been out of the game for years, opting to maintain my 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage for nearly 10 years now. Paid $1150 cash, made sure the car was assembled in Japan (VIN starts with J), and I made sure of that because Japan built great quality cars in the '90s. My car reaching 233k miles this year seems to support that.
Anyone who wants to purchase a quality built vehicle should consider where their car was assembled, which you can easily find out by using the first character of all VIN numbers on vehicles, and doing a simple web search.

I work with the trucks coming out of SHAP, the early 25 builds had tons of issues, specifically electrical. Units would die, wouldn't shift, was typically the higher trims with a lot of electronics, so much so that they needed to add an extra battery. They laid off 400 engineers and these projects have nobody leading them, they lost tons of knowledge and they think they can outsource this stuff to Indian and Brazilian engineers who will have no hands on experience with the trucks. It's a recipe for disaster.

It was Warren Stamping with the safety issues, not Warren Truck. We did have issues here at Warren Truck during our launch of the Wagoneer. 75% of the issues were engineering issues. People don't realize that with all that tech comes extra modules and wire harnesses that can stretch a mile. The battery was not strong enough to compensate for all the draw. On top of that, they didn't design the job layout properly because they rushed to get the lines up and running.
As it is now, a year and a half later, all those issues have been resolved. But, they tried to blame the workers first, even though they knew all along that it wasn't the worker's fault.

Sounds like the record UAW contract last year will turn out to be a disaster for Stellantis employees. What's the point of getting more money if, in the end, you lose your factory and your job.
Fyi for the non-UAW employees. The hourly rate of employees is not what the "manufacturers" pay. It's typically twice that amount (Manufacter pays $60hr, employee gets $30hr) The rest goes to the UAW for retirees and benefits. If things go the way it's looking... current employees will not get any of that money. Because the manufacturers won't be in the US or have a drastically downsized workforce. Therefore, no way to pay current workers their benefits when they retire.

It has been clear they want to ditch all Chrysler products they only merged to have the ability to sell in the US. Ford and GM are the last of the domestics. Soon we will just have Toyota, Honda, Mazda as the main auto suppliers because Ford and GM are in serious trouble as well. Ford is losing well over 100k per EV sold right now plus it has highest recalls so not looking good for them either. The Hemi in the 1500 was really one of the last things that really made them a compelling and viable option for a lot of people since the Titan was discontinued and Toyota dropped their V8. Without that many traditional truck forks aren't going to pay the kind of money Stellantis is forcing Ram to demand of their customers and will hop ship to GM or Ford. I hate Ford with a passion, but if something ever happens to my 2014 Ram I think an F-150 with the Coyote would be what I replace it with. With the line running top speed it does not take a genius to figure out that that will do nothing but create issues. It's only been obvious for some of us what they are trying to do by having people quit create an attendance issue and creating quality issues I just hope our local sees it too.

I'm an electrician at JNAP, well at least for a few more days since I fu*king hate that job. This shit is on both labor and management. At least at JNAP, people don't care. They purposely misload parts. The TL's can't train newbies because they're not trained themselves. Lest we forget the electrician that used to work the line next to mine got busted sleeping 4 separate times that I know of. Since giys didn't want to do any TMS when they were in on OT or during down time, they threw both rear door lines on me. So now I'm running 2 making the same damn wage as a guy working 1. My bosses have ZERO business being their position. Just got a fresh one last week. Told me he'd been doing this all of his life, so I give him my standard question I give every new boss that comes through. What's the difference between a crescent wrench and a combination wrench??? He couldn't tell me which told me he was full of it. The entire industry is like this though. The saddest part of the industry is it seems you only have a small handful of people who seem to actually give a shit. Last year my old boss who really busted his ass to learn after getting forced into the position (he was a PLC Engineer forced to run a maintenance crew), who used to go to all those meetings the big wigs have. He would come back and tell me shit that would be discussed. The French came over around that time to tour the plants. Apparently they do not like JNAP and WTAP at all. There's times we can't have replacement parts from the crib. I've been screaming for 4 years for training on this or that, we get lip service and promises, but it never happens. If it does happen only certain people are allowed to go. I spent 12 years at DTE at Monroe Power Plant prior to this and I'm blown away at how bush league the automotive industry is compared to them. I feel badly for workers in assembly because those people do bust ass, plus they gotta deal with all the crap the other shops let go through on top of what they gotta deal with. In this instance, I would shut that line down and notify every damn media outlet that would listen. Then if Stellantis wants to fire me, they can explain all of that in the media.

Working with overseas engineers is a massive pain, just a constant misunderstanding and the resulting work is a mismash of work that doesn't integrate well without a lot of redoing. Amazing how all this extra headache and revisions to make it right can still be cheaper?

I have equated this deal (Fca to Stellantis )to similarities in sears/Kmart where the music needs to play long enough until whatever perceived value can be extracted. It's entirely possible Stellantis has no intention of pulling back on purpose from US market, but products definitely moving towards European feel with typical high prices. The natural consequence will be less sales, less dealers, less north American manufacturing and this might be the end plan.

"Never attribute to malice what can properly be attributed to stupidity"
Butter, the harness issue is an engineering problem, not a management problem. Well, OK, it is a management problem in that the management didn't ask if the harnesses had sufficient service loops and extra lengths, so the management had allocated insufficient design review oversight, but the engineering team relied on a Computer Aided Design (CAD) tool to determine harness lengths and never checked a real cable's build on an actual piece of real car in prototype form to verify the harness lengths determined by the CAD were correct.
This was the exact issue that caused the Airbus A380 to see a 24 month service delivery delay because the harnesses of the infotainment systems in the cabin were a few millimeters too short, so the harness plugs never connected to their respective jacks on the avionics. The entire set of cables had to be redesigned and it set them back 24 months.
    Sounds like Stellantis is re-inventing the engineering wheel . . . . . . .

I recalled seeing an early review and test run on YT of the Dodge hornet, in a situation which was to test the AWD feature, a module/ computer through a type of code basically froze up. Now, that’s a strong indicator of the trouble the Stellantis vehicles are in.
