- Releases are the best part of the job and it's always an incredible sight to see an animal that would otherwise have died free to live life once again.
These tawny owls arrived at the centre as orphans and, after months of rehabilitation, the time had finally come for them to return to the wild. After taking them to a special release site, Simon opened the doors and the young owls took to the skies once more.
This video is dedicated to Ossie, who particularly loved owls.

I enjoy watching Simon when he does a release. Amazing! Rest in Peace, Ossie.
There's a huge difference between thinking it and actually carrying out the act of helping animals
Wildlife Aid deserves so much more views and praise for their good deeds
Thank you so much :)
RIP Ossey.
In the very bad times we live is always nice to see that still there are good people that cares...
Le regard d'enfant émerveillé de Simon au moment des envols est émouvant
this guy deserves a statue and a street named after him.
Amazing Simon! You and your team deserve the best.

Very nice that none of them decided to give everyone a big startle by going directly for the lake this time around! 😉

1. Nice to see them released :)
2. Was Ossie a friend of the charity?
Yes he was. Very sadly he passed away shortly after this was filmed.

Beautiful
Very beautiful, great work.
beautiful
WONDERFULL
Thank you :)
I think this is one of the loveliest sights. To see a wild animal released to live it's own life makes my heart so glad. I just wish all rescues could end this way.
😍😍😍 i love owls we have some in australia but you rarely see them ive seen one a masked owl i think its called a barnyard or snowy owl in the northern hemisphere not sure. It was perched up high in a gum tree in a pretty suburban area. It was a cold winter night and the moonlight was so pretty it was such a magical experience. Ive seen all sorts of birds of prey at a wildlife sanctuary though tawny frogmouths, wedge tailed eagles, buzzards, kites, falcons, goshawks. they're really awe inspiring up close the wedge tails are massive though and super intimidating like real life gargoyles.
That was a cool release of the tawny owls!!!! Beautiful birds!!!! W.A.F. you guys do a wonderful job with all this wildlife!!!!! Ty very much!!!!!
So happy to see them free again, enjoying their natural habitat 😊

I would love to witness a rescue relieve together with Simon. So much love on this channel. Keep it up, greetings from Amsterdam
Why not let them come out of the carriers when they're ready? I'm sure they would after a few minutes.
I feel the same way, but then I also trust Simon to know best.

Release vids really are the best.
Oh and just as a by the way, my old man had a best friend back in the 1940s who's nickname was Wol! :¬D
My only issue with this video is that the guy was filming vertical.
exactly what i thougt XD
Aki Roo
So I'm not the only one! Hurray!
You have to be kidding,we are not watching any video vertically. What ever that gentleman does is bothering you that much,I cannot believe it.Why not comment on the clothes he is wearing.....
allcot lighten up, it's a joke
And 2 other people agreed with you.Put an "lol" then we might get it it.Or is it now a joke when some one replies how inappropriate the comment was.
Did you rescue them as a batch of chicks? Or are those owls just commonly showing up at wildlife aid?
These owls were raised from orphaned chicks, though adult tawny owls are a common patient too.
Wildlife Aid Thank you very much for replying! Lovely
i'm feeling so blessed right now

What had happened to FIVE Tawny Owls, that they needed Human help?
They all came in to the centre with different stories, but most were found grounded and, despite efforts, no sign could be found of a nest or their parents. They would not have survived alone at the point.
@@wildlifeaid Thank you!
When Tawnys leave their nest, they can't fly yet. But it does not mean, their parents do not care for them. It is comparable with blackbirds and others.
@@TheJacksnipe Yes, we know about the branching stage. We have several videos of our work reuniting grounded chicks with their parents on our channel. They are only taken into care if they are injured or there are clear signs of abandonment :)
You should do something with turkeys for Thanksgiving!
They're in the UK. They don't celebrate Thanksgiving there.
U.s.a?
The best way to release is to throw them up in the air. Because they realize you freed them instead of them thinking they escaped.
Is it really in the best interest of the owls to have so many people standing around while they are being released? I would think it is best for wild animals to have as little interaction with humans as possible and keep the stress to a minimum?
Some species are more stressed than others by crowds, but this was a fairly quiet, genteel, and countrified gathering. A reason for doing it this way is to encourage patronage. Simon really does make sure the creatures are protected from unnecessary interference.
I can see how a balance has to be found between the different interests and I think it is wonderful how Simon is caring for the animals in such a professional way. Unfortunately some other people, although their intentions might be good, don't always do what is best for animals.
Some time ago there was a story in the media about a Eurasian eagle-owl, terrorising a residential neighbourhood here in the Netherlands, actually attacking humans. Probably because it was hand-raised and lost its fear or indifference to humans. They ended up having to capture it and locking it up again because even if relocated it would probably seek-out a residential area and come in conflict with humans again.
Then there is also road traffic, hunters and those that want to keep an owl as a pet because Harry Potter had one.
RIP Ossie
