  • Wildlife Aid never stops! Even during our Christmas dinner!
    In the middle of our Christmas dinner, we took a call about a Tawny owl found on the side of the road.
    Even though it was one of our few free evenings, we met with the couple who found him, to assess his injuries. Needless to say that we had a few drinks during our meal…and we were in a jolly (but very professional) mood!
    We took great care of the owl, but the owl still managed to attack Simon… See for yourself how owl talons can be dangerous without gloves!

      HE WON'T STOP BECAUSE THIS ACT OF HIS KS ALL HE HAS. INSTEAD OF BEING GRACIOUS HE NOW CONSTANTLY ACTS PUT UPON TO GARNER UNDESERVED PITY. HE HAS TAKEN IT TO WHERE PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF ARE ACTUALLY DISGUSTED WITH HIS CONSTANT NEED FOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. IT' S FREAKING WEAK AND BORING. FREAKING DRAMA QUEEN. SO THE THING IS HE CAN'T STOP BECAUSE HE COULDN'T BEAR TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE GET ANY PRAISE AND HE WOULD DIE IF HE COULDN'T BE THE CENTER OF ATTENTION.

    Had a tropical screech owl stuck in my hair once. I help out with the North Wales Owl Sanctuary (Rescue. All rescues, mainly from the pet industry, many of whom were abused quite badly in since cases, but some wild that are too fit to be put down, but not fit enough for wild release), and apparently my hair makes a lovely nest and he tried to get into the warm but by my neck. He was quite happy to be all snuggled up. It's amazing how quickly you accept "well this is my life now, I've got an owl stuck in my hair forever." Unlike with badgers and foxes, owls have the pointy ends that just keep coming.

  • @nameofthepen

    Simon, that owl...er....did he...um...look.. _familiar_ to you?
    Because he kinda did to me. That's why I ask.
    As a matter of fact, he looked to me just like the same dimwit that fell in the water and had to be re-rescued when you released him and his sibs that time at that pond.
    Gosh, you don't suppose....? ;-))

    • @wildlifeaid
      @wildlifeaid  9 лет назад +29

    A few years ago on my way to work I found a barred owl standing on the side of the road. In fear that he would be hit or eaten by a coyote, I stopped and caught him, intending on taking him to the nearby vet. He was kind of big and tried to get away, but couldn't fly. I picked this otherwise quite healthy owl up and he tore my hands up with his talons! I was a bloody mess and had some nerve damage for years from that experience! Lesson learned? I see Simon learned the same lesson. Gloves!

    • @wildlifeaid
      @wildlifeaid  9 лет назад +8

      You are correct that wildlife need very careful handling to ensure they, our ourselves don't suffer injury, if we had every bit of equipment we need for every species and situation we deal with on us at all times we would need a large truck following us around 24/7 so sometimes needs must. We hope your hands are fully recovered now, and respect to you for helping the owl. :)

      Found a Horned owl on the side of the road in Texas (injured wing and in shock)
      I happened to have a cat trap in the car!
      But I bloody made sure to catch him with my coat over him and grabbed him from BEHIND before quickly stuffing him into the cat trap.
      I then went to a police station (small town) to ensure they knew I was NOT trying to illegally make him a pet, but try to contact the closest legal rehabber!
      He was so weak the rehabber did not need gloves to handle him....he could perch on the kitty door activation latch, but not grab a hand tightly.
      Poor thing, they honestly told me he would probably not make it.
      At least he did not die on the side of the road or by a moron deciding to flatten him.
      I hunt, but love and respect predators...even coyotes and foxes.
      I leave them alone though and enjoy them from a distance!

    Could it be that Simon felt relieved, even delighted, when he was called to help a grumpy, tawny owl?

    When I was a kid I found a Barn Owl stuck in a tree back at a ranch where I grew. I was able to bring it down safely, but I let my guard down it suddenly grasped onto my finger and it hurt a lot!

    I feel a bit sorry for Simon.. But i have to say its a bit funny, that when it was said the owl was a bit tiny, it did anything it could to prove it wrong :D :D

    Oh dear! It seems that Simon's whinging is justifiable. Those talons must be razor sharp! Another job well done, team!
