Springfield has really stepped it up over the last couple of years and their pricing and promotions are a huge plus. Their competition better be taking notes.
Springfield has a history of using your hard earned money you use to purchase their product, of using the money to support and defend the politicians that strip your 2A rights. But keep funding those that hate you.
I was lucky enough to pick one up yesterday a little under MSRP. This is my first foray into the 1911 world and it hasn’t disappointed so far. Left the store and stopped at the range where I fired 150 rounds through it. It is incredibly balanced and smooth shooting. I can shoot this gun as fast as I want without giving up much in accuracy. I’m very impressed with how soft and flat it shoots.
I got mine too with a red meprolight bullseye front sight, co witnessing my green Romeo zero optic, and blue laser beam co witnessing and 27 round magazine.
Have a ronin, it runs great, excited to get one of these. For the money, hard to beat. Don't need to break the bank for a great firearm. Canik proves that.
Canik is now in the same price category as the other common manufacturers (Glock, CZ, SIG etc). At that price point I go with CZ or SIG depending on what I intend to use that particular gun for. And yes, I have several Caniks. Bought my first in 2016
Huge fan of the channel. I bought my Springfield Prodigy 4.25” just a few weeks ago and have right around 400 rounds through it. Where do I start, the optic it came with wouldn’t hold zero sent it back to Springfield and have never heard back from them. I bought this gun with my own money $1500 and I love the design, but I’ve had way way to many problems. Be glad you got one directly from Springfield Armory cause I’m a 100% sure they’ve tuned it up for you. In the video you said no failure to feed and no problems, that’s great. Mine has jammed so so many times I’ve lost count. Failure to feed, the slide going back into battery super slow, so I cleaned it up and oiled it good it had this jet black oil in it like motor oil that came out of it. So cleaned it up lube it up with the Lucas Extreme Gun Oil which is what I used on all my firearms, bought the RMR plate from Springfield and put a Holosun 507C X2 now I’m into the gun right at $2000 took it back out on the range jam after jam, failed to extract, the slide was super slow between shooting rounds. I’m disappointed cause I’m a Springfield Armory 1911 fan, and I love the design of my Prodigy, but I wouldn’t trust it with my life. I have a Sig Sauer X Five Legion got right at 500 rounds through it it ate everything I put through it without the first failure. I bought the Prodigy to replace the X Five Legion cause it’s a huge gun, big bulky grip. I have to say I’m disappointed in my Prodigy’s performance so far. So I cleaned it again and have yet to shoot it anymore, because they say the break in period of a 1911 is 500 rounds so I’m 100 rounds away from being broke in. But for the money this Prodigy should’ve preformed like the $900 Sig X Five Legion flawlessly, but it didn’t.
So many issues are caused by the shoddy cerakote job. I’d keep racking the fker over and over again to get that cerakote off. That’s all the black crap you see. These big RUclipsrs get polished ones. Rack and clean.
Springfield's 1911s have always worked well for me. This might help bring the overall price of 2011's down thanks to what I assume will be a reliable, budget friendly piece of competition.
You mean the Staccatos that are hand fit, come with a bombproof DLC coating, a flared extended magwell, a Dawson one piece guide rod, an extra mag, and are already known for being rock solid reliable and laser accurate? Don’t count on Staccato adjusting prices anytime soon.
@@jaytotheh they definitely aren't adjusting anything. They don't need to. I've been on a wait list to become a dealer for over a year. They can't keep up with demand.
@@jaytotheh if you don’t think these will eat into Staccato’s bottom line, I have news for you. My P DUO is great, buts it’s not worth a grand more. @@killerinst1ncz308 It’s definitely possible to acknowledge another product, and I didn’t say a single negative thing about the Prodigy. I love my Springfield TRP, and look forward to trying out the Prodigy. I welcome competition and innovation in the 2011 market. But Staccato as of today has a 90-120 day wait time for the steel frame P. Not only that, it seems like the list of law enforcement agencies adopting Staccato as their approved and preferred firearm grows by the week. It’s over like 650+ agencies now?
@@megaman010391 i hear u! its not the 1911 traditionally. The single stack is a main characteristic of the 1911. So yeah I shouldve addressed it that way. But i just meant in my hands at home with me it would be my 1911 lol. Because im actually all in to buy the emissary. but if springfield actually made the prodigy in 45 i would cancel my plans for the emissary right now.
Now that the Prodigy is available in 9 I’m looking forward to the AOL(40SW), DSL (357Sig) , Compuserve(10mm) , MixTape(380) and the Carrier Pigeon (45ACP).
I just bought one today. I have the Staccato P Duo as well. The fit on the Prodigy is impressive. Everything is super tight. No wobble in the frame AT ALL. Barrel lock up is also fantastic. Handling the two side by side it is really hard to tell the difference. Going to the range tomorrow,..will see how well it shoots compared to the Staccato.
@@HaleFire7 Alright. Went to the range today, I had to zero the Hex Dragonfly and I use a "rest" to shoot off of around 13 yards. Once zeroed I shot a couple groups off of the rest at that distance and had groups of five holes all touching. Shot without the rest and had very nice, small groups, at least as good as the 2011 (Staccato). As far as shootability, I could hardly tell the difference between the Prodigy and the 2011. Shot close to 100 rounds and not one malfunction of any kind, I have never had any with the 2011 either. I cleaned it and oiled it last night,...I oiled it kinda heavy and the only complaint I had was that the oil was shooting up out of the "round in chamber indicator" onto the red dot lens, so I won't be oiling it "wet" again, lol. It feels great in the hand, and it does not "need" a magwell, but I do like the feel of the magwell on the 2011. I think if a magwell becomes available I will put one on it. I don't care for the two piece guide rod, and I am considering buying a "toolless guide rod" on the Staccato website to add to the Prodigy, it's about $100, but I can live with that. The 2011 came with a VERY nice range type soft case, the "case" the Prodigy came with is too small to use with the red dot on it, especially with the extended mag (not really a big deal). So, to summarize, I honestly think that the 2011 was not worth the money I spent on it, ESPECIALLY after shooting the Prodigy. I wouldn't sell the 2011 though, I enjoy having it, but had I known then what I know now, I would have gotten the Prodigy in the 5 inch AND the 4.25 instead of buying the Staccato. Maybe the Staccato will wear better and last longer, I like that it has the DLC finish, I think that finish is more durable than the Prodigy, but time will tell. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. And as an aside,..my favorite 2011 style that I have currently is the Bul Armory SAS II Ultralight.
@@stevenjeffrey4637 I’m considering the DS the EMP and the SAS UL ii. Currently own the Wilson Combat EDC X9 and SFX9. That DS looks impressive. The EMP is beautiful. The SAS seems like a Goldilocks EDC. What to do, what to do.
I saw one of these at a gun show yesterday and when I picked it up, I instantly loved it more than the Staccato because of the grip texture alone. It's one of the few handguns that gets the texture just right.
That's a beast of a Pistol. The rapid fire looked like a jackhammer... guess it's hammer time 😁. That 10mm stole the show when you entered it into the picture...exquisite.
Thanks for the review! I always enjoy yours. I am fortunate to have Several Nighthawks, two staccatos, a Wilson and an Atlas Athena. This is a Staccato P clone. Same is the way that the hellcat was the derivative of the p365. As an entry-level gun in this category it’s hard to beat the price. Having looked at multiple reviews of this, there are reliability issues that probably will be worked out over time. A 1911 trigger is better than almost anything else there is but as 1911 triggers go, its okay. The edges of some of the parts don’t look so smooth and the grip module looks kind of cheap. It would be great to have a magwell. The takedown is mildly annoying but probably less so than finding a paper clip like i do on my Nighthawks and my Athena. I personally would re stipple the grip to a more aggressive texture, smooth the edges and immediately get a trigger job to get it down in pull and reset. Mine are tuned into the around 2 lb range with the Atlas at 1 1/4 pounds from the factory. This is not for newer 1911 shooters. Then it would compete with the higher end guns on performance at a much lower price point. I am very experienced with 1911/2011 triggers so I like them this light but for new 1911 people 3 to 3 1/2 would be great. I will admit that i am comparing to high and very high end custom 1911/2011s. Probably not fair. On its own, It looks like a great entry level 2011. Wise consumers will upgrade a few thing and stop there. It only gets significantly more expensive. You have been warned. 😀
I think Springfield Armory did a good job with this “prodigy”,it is double stack, price is right, the quality is top notch that can compete with other 2011’s.Like Sootch always saying “that we are now living in the golden era of firearms”..! Waiting for your review of the new s&w m&p 2.0 metal..!watching from 🇵🇭
All I am going to say is that I would rather watch YOUR gun review videos than any other on RUclips. Been watching your channel for many years, and you always seem to get it right. Thank you for what you do sootch00.
He’s a corporate reviewer when he starts being honest with bad in production guns that’ll elevate his channel but remove his freebies from companies also many guys just want their purchase reaffirmed and he always does that it’s a $1500 gun with reliability issues, unacceptable.
This weapon is very very nice .Springfield has really done a wonderful job.i hope to get one of these soon..thank you so much for this competent and thorough review ! Much appreciated as always
Take down is just like the AF1911, probably one of the most beautiful 1911's I've ever seen. But this DS piece looks amazing. Very nicely done, Springfield.
I'm actually really excited about this new Springfield series of pistols! Time will tell if they live up to the hype, but they are certainly an epic contender in today's pistol market that will continue to be if durability and reliability are both sustained long-term.
Great review. I like how you understand that alot of people think this is alot of money and can't afford it. This is an option for me because of your review. Thanks and keep the videos going
Springfield is killing it. It’s also killing my bank account. I love the Emissary 4.25 45ACP from last year, and now this. I hope they come out with a 38 Super in this format. PS: I am glad they called it a 1911 Double Stack, because that’s what it is, instead of that ridiculous 2011 nonsense. It’s a 1911 double stack pistol.
I think staccatto names it 2011 since it’s a “21st century 1911” that uses 9mm +p rather than .45. I love the naming but am also glad SA used the 1911 DS name
I have a 1911 45acp 5 inch garrison and love it.., I've always wanted 2011 9mm and looked at the staccato but man. Looks like a fantastic firearm but for 2k... it's a little steep for us regular guys. So for 1500 its definitely a great price point. As always great videos 👌. Time to add this prodigy to my collection.
It is certainly a BEAUTY but it's also a BIG MONSTER. This one is a SERVICE PISTOL which isn't going to be an IWB Concealed carry gun but that's ok too.
@@carloshipolito9326 We will see,..I just bought one today. I have the Staccato P Duo as well. The fit on the Prodigy is impressive. Everything is super tight. No wobble in the frame AT ALL. Another great review. There are seriously few things more fun than shooting a 9mm steel Limited gun. The only issue as a competition gun is that in USPSA it currently only can compete with the dot in Open or without the dot in Limited. Both of these have major/minor scoring and this gun in minor will be fun, but a challenge if you care how you finish. I do think it will fit well in IDPA though.
Looks great, especially for $1500! A couple hundred on a Ed Brown hammer and sear to take a couple pounds off the trigger pull weight and a flat trigger and this thing will be perfect!
I bought one a month ago. It failed miserably out of the box, but this was due to break in. It takes almost 400-500 rounds before it ran 100%. A few things that happened with mine. Rear sight screw came loose, followed by the screws holding the optic plate cover, which the rear sight is mounted on. The fiver optic rod flew out in the first two hundred rounds. So, lock rite and order some spare optic rods .060 and you’ll be fine after break in. I also noticed the two piece guide rod loosens up as you shoot, so check it periodically. None of this happened on any other platform I own. It’s a legacy platform so I get it.
Thank you, Scooty. always providing great videos .Let me tell you, i haven't stopped using my Springfield armory prodigy .. is a very solid pistol 💥🙌🏼💥 for the price i feel is very fair price for what you are getting for. Wish it was .45acp like my springfield armory garrison. But no complaints at all is different, but in my opinion is going into right direction. Thank you
It seems a lot of people are having problems out of their gun every one says won't feed its there mags there outta spec I tuned mine and I use my staccato mags the gen 3 mags 20 rounders I have not had any problems outta mine though I love this gun it's a nail driver.
It seems that a lot of the big RUclipsrs are all raving about how great it runs but the small RUclipsrs who went out and bought theirs are running into issues. I think Springfield hand picked cherry guns that would run so that the big time reviewers would rave about how great they are. I'd like someone buy their own and run it through its paces.
I've been looking at springfields website trying to decide between a trp or a garrison now they throw this in the mix. I've wanted a 2011 for a while they have just been too pricey but this price doesn't look too bad. Thanks sootch.
Good presentation and overview. Using a side view to capture Sootch’s first impressions was cool. Excellent review. All your vids are not just about functionality but also a gun’s “fit and feel”. Keep up the reviews.
Awesome Video! Great break down of the gun! Love Springfield Armory!! I may have to break down and buy my first 9mm..ouch! I have 3 Springfield Armory 1911s 2 45s and an amazing 10mm Operator TRP🤗🤗 This would be a great addition 👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The tolerances and handfitting is what gives the Staccatos their price tag. If the Prodigy had a Custom Shop version, they would price it closer to the Staccato P i would imagine.
Wish someone would make one around the same size as the p365xl or macro. The grip on those are perfect. That grip with 1911 function would be my every day carry.
Great job on the vid, Sootch! It would have been nice to have included a few of Robbie’s comments about the gun. Also another Con could be the disassembly. Not a Dal breaker, but definitely different and would take some getting accustomed to.
9mm barrels in 1911/2011 platforms are always thicker. The bullet diameter is smaller so the barrel in diameter is smaller but the out diameter stays the same making a thick barrel.
Just ordered the Sig Legion P229 SAO RXP and then this bad boy drops two days later 😂. Side note, BlackPoint holsters are on a TEN, yes TEN week back log!
on the down side, unlike the other brands, the 2011 has been lost in upgrading. its designs are no longer standard. every manufacturer has a different design to it from the trigger guard to the slide serrations. that's why its so hard to find accessories such as carbine kits that will fit a lot of 1911's. So far only recover has solved that problem with their grip carbine kits but the availability is the issue

I will admit that i am comparing to high and very high end custom 1911/2011s. Probably not fair. On its own, It looks like a great entry level 2011. Wise consumers will upgrade a few thing and stop there. It only gets significantly more expensive. You have been warned. 😀
One I checked had more like a 5.5 pound trigger... I decided to pass on it because of it and a few other things you mentioned...
@@ninjadave1970 5.5 no way might as well buy a Glock
The upper has bull barrel 1911 compatible parts, however the lower is all Sti/staccato compatible, including the compatibility with Staccato mags
Springfield Armory is a Leader in the Industry
I think Springfield Armory did a good job with this “prodigy”,it is double stack, price is right, the quality is top notch that can compete with other 2011’s.Like Sootch always saying “that we are now living in the golden era of firearms”..!
Waiting for your review of the new s&w m&p 2.0 metal..!watching from 🇵🇭
I'd love to get one of the 2.0 Metal M&Ps. So many great choices out there. Thanks Arlan
@@sootch00 I'd like to see that review. Include if the mags are interchangeable with the polymer versions.
Beautiful gun. Let's wait a year or two to see how it works.
If everyone thought that way they would stop making them because of lack of sales.
Your videos are thorough. I like that very much. At $1500 plus, this particular pistol is out of my league regardless of quality. Thanks again.
@angryGTS My Govt. model still does the job. Most everything is a clone of the 1911.
@angryGTS i feel like so many people will buy these that it will stay close to the MSRP price
Have mercy, I'm there! Commander size , I'm there. When the lightweight Commander style (please!) comes out, I'm doubly there!
Excellent review. Thanks, going to be my next purchase.
I picked one up sat...freaking love it ...right there with staccato...
38 Super? I wouldn’t hold my breathe! Probably be lucky if we get 45, 40 and 10mm, before they’re on to something new.
I think staccatto names it 2011 since it’s a “21st century 1911” that uses 9mm +p rather than .45. I love the naming but am also glad SA used the 1911 DS name
SA can't use the "2011" brand, as its trademarked by STI/ Staccato.
Great review. Not sure why the algorithm has been keeping your videos from my feed, but it was good to see this one there waiting for my to watch!
Man, I really want this, but that Emissary is also calling my name. Decisions, decisions.
I owned a Staccato & found it to be an exceptional firearm. I look forward to shooting this. Thank you
I have a 1911 45acp 5 inch garrison and love it.., I've always wanted 2011 9mm and looked at the staccato but man.
Interesting. Of course the market comes out with tons of options AFTER i get my staccato p duo
Staccato is superior to this
@@carloshipolito9326 We will see,..I just bought one today. I have the Staccato P Duo as well. The fit on the Prodigy is impressive. Everything is super tight. No wobble in the frame AT ALL. Barrel lock up is also fantastic. Handling the two side by side it is really hard to tell the difference. Going to the range tomorrow,..will see how well it shoots compared to the Staccato.
Thanks Sootch. Now I have another gun that I have to get. I've been reluctant about the 2011 style. But, I'm sold on this one. That thing is amazing.
This will be my new gun
Looks great, especially for $1500! A couple hundred on a Ed Brown hammer and sear to take a couple pounds off the trigger pull weight and a flat trigger and this thing will be perfect!
I had great hopes for the SA-35, but they never came to local gun stores. Likewise I wonder if we will ever see a Prodigy in the wild.
Trust me when I say you didn't miss much with the sa35. Mine was a dumpster fire lol
Good intro to 2011s, keeping the price down, or a beater 2011.
RIA Tac Ultra HC's got it beat by over $600, 700 if you find a good deal.
How does it currently run? Is it the 5 inch model?
If it came in 10mm, I'd be all over it. Still think I'd prefer that 10mm Ronin you have 🤩
Thank you, Scooty. always providing great videos .Let me tell you, i haven't stopped using my Springfield armory prodigy .. is a very solid pistol 💥🙌🏼💥 for the price i feel is very fair price for what you are getting for. Wish it was .45acp like my springfield armory garrison. But no complaints at all is different, but in my opinion is going into right direction. Thank you
Really good review, thanks so much for showing us all about this pistol.👍
You can see how happy Scooth is lol! Hey it must be a good gun
Seems like a pain in the ass to dissassemble. Other than that i love it
It seems a lot of people are having problems out of their gun every one says won't feed its there mags there outta spec I tuned mine and I use my staccato mags the gen 3 mags 20 rounders I have not had any problems outta mine though I love this gun it's a nail driver.
Great Video Don
Thanks Kevon!
Amazing looking gun!
I've been looking at springfields website trying to decide between a trp or a garrison now they throw this in the mix. I've wanted a 2011 for a while they have just been too pricey but this price doesn't look too bad. Thanks sootch.
Thanks for stopping by Matt!
Picked mine of from the LGS today, range day tomorrow.
My first is a springfield xd 40.Still going strong and I have a kit for it💯I'm partial to the brand.this is the next one.,🇺🇲🗽💙
Good presentation and overview. Using a side view to capture Sootch’s first impressions was cool. Excellent review. All your vids are not just about functionality but also a gun’s “fit and feel”. Keep up the reviews.
Gotta get one..love it
I'll take one in 10mm !! Great review 👏
Was saying the exact same thing 10 mm
I’ve always like Springfield. Not surprised they dropped this bad boy. I’m game!
I want to move to the USA 🇺🇸 for this. You so lucky to be able to carry/CCW.
Very impressive and good looking 1911. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
A Compact/Carry variant is going to be huge. Bet we’ll see another release soon.
M1911 will still be used after the apocalypse.
112 years and still counting!
Thanks for the excellent reviews. Always solid content.
Woohoo. Finally they made a double stack. I wish they made the Emissary a double stack, I’d already have one
I would love one of these with a threaded barrel. Would be a fun suppressed toy
Great video thank you sir!
Really nice gun there sootch00 thanks for the review and sharing
Got mine on layaway now and I can't wait. Great video
The tolerances and handfitting is what gives the Staccatos their price tag. If the Prodigy had a Custom Shop version, they would price it closer to the Staccato P i would imagine.
Staccatos are reliable out of the box not the same for the prodigy and that can be worth everything depending on situation
All the guys at the club running STI’s are big mad about this thing. I can’t wait to get my hands on one.
My Staccato P is awesome! I am intrigued w this new 2011ish, lol
Great review and guide!
Love the way that cerakote is holding up on the front serrations: Not 👎
I dig that bull barrel quite a bit. Wish it was in .45 though! Or make one in .40!
Just bought the Walther Pdp as my new duty pistol and now this?! Gonna have to put the Walther in the safe and work some overtime for this beast.
Wonderful weapon
High end quality at a very affordable production price.
That bump in the night reason for a 1700 pistol is insane lol
Wish someone would make one around the same size as the p365xl or macro. The grip on those are perfect. That grip with 1911 function would be my every day carry.
Needs a threaded barrel option, then I'm in.
I'll be back when they make one in 10mm
Really sweet 1911!
Great job on the vid, Sootch! It would have been nice to have included a few of Robbie’s comments about the gun. Also another Con could be the disassembly. Not a Dal breaker, but definitely different and would take some getting accustomed to.
That barrel looks weighty. Pretty thick for a 9mm, but I imagine that aids in the recoil not being aggressive.
9mm barrels in 1911/2011 platforms are always thicker. The bullet diameter is smaller so the barrel in diameter is smaller but the out diameter stays the same making a thick barrel.
So basically it's a gun that shoots bullets, with a frame... very profound
Bravo
Just ordered the Sig Legion P229 SAO RXP and then this bad boy drops two days later 😂.
Side note, BlackPoint holsters are on a TEN, yes TEN week back log!
Great review and awesome shooting.👍
AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thanks for stopping by Ed!
@@sootch00 you are welcome. Keep up the great work.
Forget affording the gun (which is a nice deal) I don’t think I could afford the ammo as much as I would enjoy shooting it!
on the down side, unlike the other brands, the 2011 has been lost in upgrading. its designs are no longer standard. every manufacturer has a different design to it from the trigger guard to the slide serrations. that's why its so hard to find accessories such as carbine kits that will fit a lot of 1911's.
So far only recover has solved that problem with their grip carbine kits but the availability is the issue
Fantastic and comprehensive review as always 💪🏼🇺🇸
Thank you, it is the one that I will buy if God wants this Christmas. Thank you, USA, for the weapons that you manufacture.
Good review. I was lucky enough to win a Prodigy during the Unlock Greatness promo!!! Really looking forward to getting to the range!!
Did you shoot it yet?
Looking forward to carry models.
