I agree with Jaynola 100%. your excitement is what makes watching these videos so enjoyable and I know if I was there I would feel the same way. So nostalgic to be in a place in time where history was made. This was one of my favorite 80's movies as well. Keep them coming.
Its amazing how many emotions come flooding back as i watch this. I first saw Karate Kid as a 12 year old just starting my life. Now im about to turn 49, and Im past the midway point looking back on so many incredible memories. Nothing compared to being a kid in the 80s. I wouldnt trade it for anything.

What is so cool is that, in S4:E8 “Party Time” of Cobra Kai, Silver surprises Kreese by bringing him back to the original Cobra Kai dojo from the 1985 Karate Kid movie. He said “It’s been a long time since this place has been a dojo. They’re putting it up for sale. I think it was a candle shop.” 😲 I was excited and in awe when you mentioned at 11:02 that the original Cobra Kai dojo location is actually a candle shop! 😮
This movie debuted the weekend of my 13th birthday in June 1984 and for my birthday I went twice that weekend to watch it and it literally changed my life and was the beginning of my martial arts training and lifelong love for martial arts.
In 84 I was like 10 years old and I remember seeing this movie at the Van Nuys drive in, my dad had an old 1951 chevy panel truck and me my mom brother and sometimes cousin's would be loaded up in that thing on a friday night. Man those were good times I really miss them.
The best part of this video was Michael saying "You get one life. Once chance to live it, and your never gonna get this chance again. So just do it." I think one of the reasons I enjoy these videos so much is a chance to see and experience things that I would never have been able to.
ya that was a hell of a comment. It made me really think about all the time I waste sitting on a computer watching youtube videos. I should be out in the world trying to experience things before Im old and cant drag myself out of bed.
I have a question though "experience things that I would never have been able to." why did you say this? You can experience it just travel to LA man and check it out for yourself. Why would you never be able to do that?
Its crazy how me being 20 years old have the same feelings you're having about that movie and looking at those places, I also grew up with karate kid, but in the 2000's, so thanks for this video, btw you guys are so cute I hope I find someone to love like that :)
That Golf N Stuff location is in Norwalk, CA. I pass it everyday on the 605 Freeway. Kind of cool to see it is still there! Thanks for the video share.
I’m in Sydney, Australia and was lucky enough to visit the apartment when I was there in 2019. So surreal seeing something like that up close when it’s been part of a film you adore for so long. We were able to get inside through the side gate as a young couple was exiting at the moment we got there. They let us in happily and said they get asked several times a week but they enjoy that people love it so much. Great video!
This is the best tour of the filming locations I've seen. I was sent this video by a friend that works on Cobra Kai (I've worked on it a little but not full time) and she knew I'd like it. Huge Karate Kid fan and I appreciate the time, research and effort you put into this video. Respect!
I'm so surprised that Golf And Stuff is still there, but even more surprised they took away the Slide, that was the best part of Golf And Stuff, my Mom used to take me there in the Early 80's, good times!
I really like your mood and energy in this video. I don't have anyone like Jessica to gush over, and sometimes it's hard, but your comments about doing what you can with your one life really hit home. From one goth to another, thank you.
One thing I've wondered was why they shot the date scene at Golf N Stuff all the way out in Norwalk, almost 40 miles outside the Valley. In real life, Daniel might have been more likely to take Allie to Malibu Castle in Sherman Oaks.
Whenever I see how much things have changed since the 80's, I feel extremely sad inside. It's everything, too. Last year I was doing a video tour of the day camp I went to back in the late 80s and early 90s. I actually filmed the swimming pool, and noticed that there is no more deep end. Deep ends and diving boards are a thing of the past. Girls join boy scouts now, and people txt instead of holding conversations. I find myself lost in this new modern world, and generally just surround myself with 80s and 90s pop culture. It's the only place I feel alive anymore. Good video, Mr Grimmlifecollective.
My buddies and I lived walking distance from the South Seas apts there on Saticoy St in Reseda, and the field next to it where Johnny and his crew are beating Daniel up in the skeleton costumes, and Miyagi saves him. We watched them film all of it from Saticoy St. We used to play around on our own bikes and motor bikes in that field countless times.
Fantastic movie. I saw it 3 times in the theater & then signed up to a karate class. Steve McQueen's son played one of the Cobra Kai's. The blonde curly hair one.
Golf n Stuff must've received tons of steady business over the years since Karate Kid. Great promotion from such an iconic movie. No wonder it's still around.
Ralph Macchio 59 yrs . Hitting 60 this yr. He is not young any longer . Sadly Mr miyagi's dead but he did get a nomination Academy Award for this movie The Karate Kid and his arch-enemy from Cobra Ki had passed away in 2019 sad. I still once in a blue moon brake out the old ( CRANE KICK ) 😊🤘💫
This is super cool. I remember going to the theater to watch this movie when it first came out. You two are so fortunate to be living there and be able to look up and go to these sites.
I felt like you did the first two years after I moved to California in 1994. I see your enthusiasm, and it makes me smile. It shows you how they barely change the apartments and houses in LA. It's bittersweet for me. I find things a bit run down, but in this scenario, it's cool they didn't.
I wish to thank you for the time and patience that you put into this video. You gave us viewers the time to absorb the locations you visited by taking your time. This patience along with your insightful narration (calm and not rushed through) made the whole experience fulfilling imo. Thanks again.
I’m a 17 year old boy who’s been a BIG FAN of the karate kid movie since I was 5 years old,fun fact the day the movie released in theaters in 1984,the day was June 22nd and that’s the date number of my BIRTHDAY 😱😱😱I was born on June 22nd 2004,and also I ALWAYS wanted to visit the locations they filmed at for the movie,I’m glad u made this video bro 🙏👊🏻🥋
@Frank Silvers actually I don’t remember seeing the whole movie when I was 5,I had glimpses and flashbacks of certain scenes and remembering I watched it at a different house at a different time, and there’s also a picture taken from my mom of me watching the movie, taken July 7 2009.
Hey Dude im in Manchester UK big Karate Kid fan and i was totally overwhelmed with your Karate Kid back in time to 1984 which is when i was serving in the Royal Air Force and i must say it was a blast i love revisiting sets of the past and because i do alot of TV and Film extra work i appreciate visiting the realms of our past and some of the best movies ever made so keep up the great work and maybe one day if i can get over to Orlando i would love to hook up with you and do a tour !! It would make my dream come true buddy and by the way its always great to see your better half Jessica acting out some great movie line up shots Best of luck for this year and i will be watching now ive subscribed to such a great channel Best Wishes from Gary in Oldham Manchester Its great to be in the Twilight Zone !! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL BRO
Mr. Miyagi's apartment was constructed where the first 3 parking spots are (leaving only 2, one of which Daniel's mom parks in). The entrance to Miyagi's apartment was where the white van is parked. The gated off walkway was still a walkway (although not gated) in the movie. Daniel walks down it when he is first looking for Miyagi.
The Karate Kid is one of my favorite movies of all time and one I have watched dozens of times. It's so cool to see the locations where the movie was filmed and what has changed and what hasn't. Thank you for the nostaligia.
You’ve just unlocked my childhood. Ty for making this video. I loved the series so much. I stumbled on your video though reloading RUclips. If I ever get to Cali again, I’m taking both of my wives on a tour and this video is our tour guide. Not that it matters since you have 228k subs, but you gained one out of me. Once again, Thank you for this video, for just a short 38 minutes, I went to Ali’s house and to the beach and the dojo seen was epic. Best tour video I’ve seen in years.
I want you to know that you did teach me something...It wasn't anything about the Karate Kid..that was one of my favorite movies back in the day...but it was something much more important...when you said that nothing was promised, and we only get one chance to live our life and to just do it....I am now 52 years old and a lot of things have happened over the last 4 years, to where, I've pretty much stopped living. But when you said all that...something about it woke me up...Thank you so very much for that inspiration...It's time I got up and started living because you are right...we don't get to do it over...Thank you so much for that...thank you for your videos...and thank you for being you...You and Jessica ROCK!!! Much love to you both...:)
Many years ago when I was still living with my folks, we took a family vacation to Cali. We were just cruising down the street and I saw Golf N Stuff and recognized it from the movie. So I told my dad to pull over so I could take some pics. This was just a few years after it was released. And the water slide was still there. It's so weird to be traveling and then all of a sudden realize that you are amongst the scenery of a classic movie without even intentionally trying to be there. We were driving through Astoria, Oregon one time years back and I didnt at the time know that much of the Goonies was filmed in Astoria. So I was looking around, and I began to recognize the area. I was thinking, "this place looks really familiar". And then I realized that I was right there in the "Goondocks". Now that was surreal. :)
i grew up in reseda on sylvia st...literally at the end of our street across saticoy ave sits the south seas apt building.....i watch them film there every night when i was about 13 yrs old....any one have questions send me message...also many other 80s movies were filmed around their in my presence...licensed to drive was another big one. etc.....
Thank you guys so much for filming these locations bc the karate kid is one of my all time favorite movies. It would be so awesome to meet you two, maybe one day I will get to. Keep up the good work guys. Cheers from Albany Kentucky.
I swear y'all have looked up all of my favorite movies from my childhood. My all time favorite that I watched every Friday night in the 80s was Back to the Future. I believe that was all made at a studio lot though, so not too many locations to visit. Loved this video! Thank you :)
I grew up in the valley and took these shooting locations for granted. Now you have inspired me to go check them out, especially he Karate Kid. I didn’t even realize, I was driving by what was the Cobra Kai dojo, all the time. Also there’s some good food in the NoHo Arts District area.
Another thing I like about film making in the 80s is they used both the inside and outside of buildings instead of just using the exterior and something else for the interior
Umm not really For almost all locations that are homes, the interior is almost always a set. Typically one of the only times they will use a homes interior if it's the pilot. If the show gets picked up, they will then film all that on a set. With the set "house interior" modeled after the real life home, with slight modifications Nothings changed as far as homes And again, nothing has changed as far as buildings , schools etc. Since those locations are typically unique, to the productions requirements they will film inside , as in Karate Kid, the championship Or, with schools, a lot of times they will use the exterior of one school and the interior of another, for the same school Example of this would be Grease. And yes, I work in Locations in the biz
I really appreciate the way take the time to edit your videos lining up shots which brings us right back to when we watched these classic movies. I was born in 1977 so the 80s was everything to me. Nice work dude
I'm not even sure how I stumbled across this video, but I'm glad I did. It's so cool to see that some of the locations are still very recognizable so many years later. The coolest thing though is you. I love, not only your enthusiasm, but your gratitude for being there and mostly for the love you have for Jessica. Great words at 29:35!
This is much more detailed and precise than some of the earlier "where they filmed..." Awesome stuff here brutha!! I loved your filming location for Halloween 2018-- that was really cool too!
What a great job, tracking all those sites down. And I love how much you’re into it. I was a big fan of karate kid in the 80s. Can’t believe so many of the locations are still there, right down to the detail of signs and lockers. It’s so cool to see. Shame about mr miyagi’s house though. Why would anybody change that place 😩 gotta rewatch the movie tonight 👍🏼
This is such a classic and one of my all time favorite movies! I show these movies to all of my kids when they're old enough to appreciate it and they all loved it! You have to pass on what you love, to the people you love.
Wow, those houses weren't there when I watched that scene where they where fighting in the field, I was sitting in the hallway next to miagies door to his maintenance room
I was lucky to go to Hawaii and I got a photo of where Mr Miyiagi and Daniel were in Karate Kid 2 sort of training with that swinging hook thing the photo was from a distance but its a good photo
Miyagi didn't live in the apartment building. He just had his workshop there, since he was the super. But his house was where the dojo was. Also, the entry to the workshop wasn't the side entrance to the building, that is clear in the images, the entrance to the building is still visible in the movie and is even used during the filming.
I always thought he might be cooking meth back there and selling it to the highschool kids. Thats why he had Danniel sign up for that Karate tourney. Miyaga was selling product at all these Karate tournaments. It wasn't very clear in the script but I think this is a very likely sub plot to the movie.
if for you is that magic, imagine for us who live in other country, here in brazil, we cannot visit this locations, i saw this week the goonies location, dude, was incredible, thank you for giving us this nostalgia
That 3D black m white horror movie "Mask" was aired in summer of 88 with a Three Stooges 3-D movie. Haven't heard anyone reference it until now. Side trivia, the school used in Karate Kid was also used in A nightmare on Elm st part 2. Same locker hallway was used and you can see the same worn stickers on the same lockers.
My situation was the opposite from yours when I was a teen: I DIDN'T WANT to study karate, but my parents INSISTED that I do so, because the high school I was about to enter was a very bad one, in a bad neighborhood.
I went to Hughes Jr High the last year it was open 82/83. Actor Jason Bateman went to this school that year also. Michael Jackson showed up at this school also in late May or early June of 1983. Funny how those lockers are still the same color after all these years.
I like that you respect not "trespassing" in areas you feel you shouldnt. Its very very respectful (especially at Mr. Miagi's house. MOST DEFINITELY people live there. I can imagine how many requests homeowner/landowners must get to to "see movie locations". If i were one of them. I would certainly get annoyed after a while
Hey Michael and Jessica you do a great job on your "filming location" videos. I love the way you line up the shots in illustrating to me, the viewer, a then and now perspective. Also, your video clips from the original movies have a good picture quality, I like it. And Michael I think it is great that you love your wife, Jessica, and enjoy being with her on your adventures. Great Channel!!! Thanks!
How ironic you lived in Savannah because that's exactly where I lived when I first saw Karate Kid and the sequels. My uncle took me to Abercorn Cinema all the time to see everything. I lived with my grandparents on Wilmington Island. Ralph Macchio was my very first crush. Had a shrine of posters filling up my walk in closet and all over the inside of the door. I was obsessed! Then Top Gun released 2yrs later... Cruel Summer is still my favorite song. Such great memories of my childhood-teen yrs in the 80's Thanks for this video.
I remember ditching school to go on a date to Golf n' stuff (when the water slide was still there), and I remember geeking out because it felt like I was in the movie! It was soo expensive to play in that arcade, but it was definitely worth visiting. I always wanted to ride the water slide but it was closed each time I went. I guess that's a good thing though, I heard that there were a lot of accidents and a few fatalities on that slide, which is probably why they had to take it down. I did get to go on the bumper boats eventually and that was AMAZING! I appreciate your appreciation of all the locations you visit, thanks for doing what you do. It is so enjoyable to watch.
lol a couple Fatalities? Rofl.. man trust me if someone dies on a ride of any kind they do not keep letting people on it, in order for there to be a couple fatalities. Its one and done and thats it.
Hey Grimm Couple... I LIVED the 80's! My Grand Kids all joke that "Grandpa is Stuck in the 80's!" And I wear that PROUDLY! Movies like "Karate Kid" and "Lost Boys" were and STILL are HUGE Influences in my life! I am HOPING you two watch "Cobra Kai" on Netflix?! :D

Great video, once again!! Love this movie and your video, you two!! You're right - so much has, naturally, changed since 1984, but the way you two have interspersed actual movie scenes really helps establish how the shots looked from then to today!! Just awesome and so much fun to have these nostalgic trips down memory lane!! Thanks again for sharing!!!
I've lost count how many times I've watched that wonderful movie. I like it because shows the true side of Karate. Yes it is a form of defence but the true side is sprite and only useing it when you have too. I'll have to look through my subs and there's a channel that teaches self defence or you can look though my subs and find it. I've had 14 yrs Judo/Karate, & 26 yrs in the Army. It was funny when I had to go do the self defence course in basic training. There was a Drill Sargent with an attitude 😃😂😁 I let him throw me a few times & I acted 'stupid' duh....Of course Drill 'boy' screamed at me even after I told him not too, he kept doing it so I wiped the floor with him, not bragging, I did it in a way to teach him a lesson. Of course he didn't take the hint & when he came with his stick thingie I broke it in half and said to never yell at me again. He never did, neighter did the other Drills. If they did I didn't shoot & hit anything. I was a Drill Sargent for 7 years and NEVER screamed or yelled at my troopies, and I treated them with respect, which in turn I got back, and it always paid off. No body messed with them or they messed with me and I loved everyone of them. They knew self defence after they got out of basic but they knew the sprite side of it too. Thank you for the video. You showed the sprite side of Karate. Only use it if there is no other way to go. 🤘👻💖

Can you imagine living in the Karate Kid apartment building! 🔥 That would be awesome!
Thanks for the episode!!
The high-school was also the school used in Nightmare on Elmstreet 2.
Also for Summer School (1987).
@Frank Silvers well obviously it did. If he like it that much its been implanted in his mind and probably watched the film more times as he got older.
Yes, we know.... we all know
The Karate Kid is one of my favorite movies of all time and one I have watched dozens of times. It's so cool to see the locations where the movie was filmed and what has changed and what hasn't. Thank you for the nostaligia.
I loved Karate Kid, I went to the theater over and over to watch it. You did a great job of filming these locations and narrating them too.
Did you know that in 25:12 is the scene in point break where they are playing football on the beach?
Thats pretty cool to stumble on those places by accident. Usually places like that people usually plan to be there.
i grew up in reseda on sylvia st...literally at the end of our street across saticoy ave sits the south seas apt building.....i watch them film there every night when i was about 13 yrs old....any one have questions send me message...also many other 80s movies were filmed around their in my presence...licensed to drive was another big one.
That was filmed down the street where I lived in Reseda California, I watched the fighting sence in the field next to the apartment
Nice 👍
Dude thats insane! How old were you?!
I'm 53 years old
Reseda has changed so much since I was there in 1990
You remember the show different strokes well Dana Plato lived right down the street from me
I grew up in the valley and took these shooting locations for granted.
Umm not really
For almost all locations that are homes, the interior is almost always a set.
Typically one of the only times they will use a homes interior if it's the pilot. If the show gets picked up, they will then film all that on a set. With the set "house interior" modeled after the real life home, with slight modifications
Nothings changed as far as homes
And again, nothing has changed as far as buildings , schools etc.
Since those locations are typically unique, to the productions requirements they will film inside , as in Karate Kid, the championship
Or, with schools, a lot of times they will use the exterior of one school and the interior of another, for the same school
Example of this would be Grease.
I'm from California , I moved to Kingman Az 20 years ago. I miss the ocean and the 80's as well. I love your channel. You guys make great videos.
This is much more detailed and precise than some of the earlier "where they filmed..." Awesome stuff here brutha!! I loved your filming location for Halloween 2018-- that was really cool too!
I remember you from Autozone in Orlando. Glad to see you’re doing this channel
"You're the best..Around!" Very cool video, guys. You line the shots up great.😎👍
That 3D black m white horror movie "Mask" was aired in summer of 88 with a Three Stooges 3-D movie.
The WHITE Car at the end is a 1984 or 85 Covette... but the RED Car is a '62/'63 Studebaker Avante Convertible! VERY RARE Car!
Wow I was literally binge watching Cobra Kai all day yesterday! I will be watching more today! Thanks so much guys, one of my faves! 👍🖤🎃
I went to Hughes Jr High the last year it was open 82/83. Actor Jason Bateman went to this school that year also. Michael Jackson showed up at this school also in late May or early June of 1983. Funny how those lockers are still the same color after all these years.
The karate kid a classic movie Ralph Macchio is a legend
Thanks for taking us down memory lane. I've watched a few of your vids and I like your guys' humble and insightful delivery.
Thank you both for this 😊❤
Karate Kid is awesome, still one of my favorite movies 😊❤
Thanks for takin me back to my childhood in the 80s 😊👍❤
Such great memories of my childhood-teen yrs in the 80's
Thanks for this video.
I’m glad u got too see all different places and take us with u I really liked karate kid too
The movie of my childhood. I was 8. The beach hasnt changed, wow. Fascinating. Thanks to both of you. 😊
Fantastic work! Appreciate your dedication towards making this video.
Being a HUGE KK fan, I loved this video. Jessica sounds like a keeper. All the best to you!
I love the karate kid. I remember going to the movies and seeing it with my boyfriend. It was our second date. Anyway I love how you found all the filming locations for the movie. Well done. You did an excellent job
Thank you Mary Ann
@@grimmlifecollective very welcome 😊
Was he the best around?
@@grimmlifecollective We need more Karate Kid type movies made into tv shows like Cobra Kai , imagine a Back To The Future tv show (Sam -Marty`s grand daughter and Demetri related to Doc`s European relatives) from Cobra Kai as the lead roles or Ghostbusters(that could be based on The Real Ghostbusters)........
Michael, you and I couldn’t be more different on paper. You’re goth and Im preppy, sporty guy but we have the same taste in 80’s movies and nostalgia! My gf and I are enjoying y’alls channel. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
“I think it was a candle shop” - Terry Silver showing the original dojo to Kreese in season 4 of Cobra Kai
Thanks for sharing this Guys its been a great watch, I was born in 84 but spent the early 90s watching all the classic 80s films and still bloody love them
That was awesome. As a kid from the 80’s, I loved this tour and can’t wait to see you guys come back to golf n’ stuff when it opens up again. Can’t wait to share this with my son. He too loves Karate Kid and Cobra Kai.
I was 6 when this movie came out and have been obsessed ever since. When they announced Cobra Kai as a show, I nearly lost my ish!!! This is amazing, thank you for making this
You are making me feel so nostalgic. I was in Morningside Elementary when the school front steps were used for Carrie (the orignal - I'm old) and all us kids got to sit out front on the grass and watch filming. Maybe you can do a segment on Carrie locations, even the location for a Carrie knock off filmed in NC if you get to NC 😀 I'll seve as tour guide for you and Jessica 😀
Great work guys, I love your videos, Jessica and yourself have such a cool and genuine vibe! I am so happy I found your channel! Sending love and positive vibes from your friend in Australia ❤
Great job! Heading out to visit these spots tomorrow! Thanks.
Im pretty sure that school was also used in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and summer school as well.
Passionnant 👌 80's pour toujours ❤️
I really enjoyed your video and thank you for your time and effort you put into this video. You looked liked you had a blast putting the video together. Shout out to your better half for her support, understanding and patience during and making of this video.
Nice work. Love the Karate Kid. It's sweet how affectionate you are towards your partner. Nice to see. Keep up the good vids. Always wanted to go where they shot this, thanks for doing it for me.
Great video, I've always wondered where some of these spots are, and thankfully they're all close enough to see them in a day. Thanks for this, your enthusiasm in infectious, man.
I remember when I used to live in California and go to golf and stuff with my friends fun time😎
I've lost count how many times I've watched that wonderful movie.
There was a Drill Sargent with an attitude 😃😂😁
I let him throw me a few times & I acted 'stupid' duh....Of course Drill 'boy' screamed at me even after I told him not too, he kept doing it so I wiped the floor with him, not bragging, I did it in a way to teach him a lesson.
I love your story ! How wonderful !!!
Hey bud. Im juat curious. When u said "the sprite" did u really mean spirit? Otherwise. What do u mean by sprite?
@@corydjajich3819 He means sprite. To not hurt or offend anyone
The Karate Kid wallpapered my walls as a teen!! Love Ralph Macchio!! Thanks Grimm🖤💜
Wow!! That was awesome I loved it! Brings back memories from this era and watching Karate Kid. Everything is so in-depth, details & match up shots etc, you really can see your passion doing this👍 Thanks for the video and tour👍🙏
This was awesome... Thanku for the massive effort to take us on this trip down memory lane!
You two are awesome. You guys really bring a smile to my face. Welcome to California.🤘 if y'all are ever in the Sacramento area, look us up
One of my favorite types of videos on YT are the movie location videos. I've seen the Rocky, Die Hard, True Grit, and multiple westerns filmed at Old Tombstone. This video is AWESOME, not ONLY because the location shots are so good, but also because of YOUR own excitement of being there. BRAVO!
Thank you Dennis.
I have a feeling Lost Boys locations are coming soon
I hope so its another of my favourites 👍🏻
Both and The Goonies , Back To The Future. All Time Greats. Lost Boyz is The Joint
Yes just watched it. Lol
I'm glad you got to see these locations, and thank you for taking us along! Another really fun video and thank for showing the location, showing the scene and then showing the location again. Really let's you absorb the view. Great job as always Kurt!
You guys are KILLING It! You have great taste.
Didn’t even know the school is a block away from where I live in Woodland Hills lol you should check out the pulp fiction pawn shop not far from that location too and still same owners
