Which new M2 Mac would you get???
You should adjust your title to “Base M2”. And is your MacBook Pro a base model?
Entry level M2A working well for me, editing 4k videos
Can u do a fully spec out m2 Mac book air Final Cut Pro review ?
I was informed by the wife that yesterday she randomly purchased the new 15” Air,fortunately she opted for 16gb & the bigger SSD & can you believe even the bigger charger. For some reason i am looking forward to having a play. When asking her why she said immediately screen size and portability. Thanks for the video anyway.👍
The Mrs just bought this little 15” without my knowledge, luckily she specced it out.She did the same 10 years ago with her Air that she currently uses to 8gb and 128ssd,at the time this was impressive.
Hopefully she will get another 10 years out if this!😁
Wow, great job making it last for so long!
I want to get the M2 macbook air for content creation (video editing for interviews and social media with 4K 2-4 mins) will it be good?
it can do it. sometimes might be a little choppy, but it can still do it. that's what I'm starting to use mine for.
thank you so much Sidney for your comparison, to be honest i'm struggling to choose which macbook for video editing since i've been using the macbook pro 2017. in Indonesia, the price of macbook pro 14 M1 vs macbook air 15 M2 have the same expensive side, so mac pro it is for video editing
Thanks, great video. So is MacBook Pro best for video editing, or is there any better laptops ( probably up to 2k €) thanks.
In my experience the MacBook Pro is def the best laptop to edit videos with!
Hey Sidney!
I’m a college student and these are my use cases (am confused between M2 Air and M2 Pro and M1 Pro):
- Battery life for college
- Basic college tasks
- Editing 4K and 8K photos
- Editing 4K cinematic and Pro Res and regular 4K @ 60 fps videos shot on my iPhone 14 Pro Max
(As a hobby)
- Media consumption (Apple TV)
- Coding
Edit: Also I’ve seen that even the base MacBook Pro and Air have slower ssd speeds? Would that matter for my use case? Please recommend me a MacBook. Thanks!
Depends on your budget. If I was in your situation I would choose M1 Pro. M2 air is also nice but you will need to spec it out to at least 16Gb of ram.
@@FpsGamingVids ikr, after specing it out, it’s 1700$. At that point if for similar price I can find a M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14, it would be awesome! Although the air does have a better battery life but it sacrifices the performance and display for it! Yikes
Think it really is determined by what type of videos you're doing. Grant it the base model cannot handle after effects etc. but basic clip editing and light color grading work fine. Great Comparison though. If making short reels for socials, works fine for me. But more in depth 4k video obviously the pro specced models
hey!
Really good content!
And would appreciate more if you can guide me to understand more. I want to get the M2 MacBook Air for content creation, like video editing using fcpx and some little effects on AE (resolution no less than 1080 (40 seconds max per video) will it be good?
I wanted to buy the m2 pro but 14 inches is a big screen for me I guess after seeing comparisons
Nice question, man! I am with the same kind of question. I have the opportunity to buy a Macbook Air M2 8GB 512GB SSD, but I want to use for After effects (beginner level), but it is very hard to get content about this specific doubt. Which one did you choose? Tks
The reason for the slow export speeds in video editing is the 8GB of ram. Video editing needs 16GB at least to do decent speeds. Especially at 4k. I’m impressed it was able to render and export it at all. Most pc’s would crash out if that’s all the ram they had.
Base MBA vs MBP Max comparing performance? Seriously? How much was your max?
i love ur videos, you're my favorite content creator
Thanks so much!
Would the M2 MacBook Air (wit max specs) be good for After Effects? I was torn between this one and the MacBook Pro 16” but my only worry was portability and battery life. I’m a student and would prefer not to have to upgrade for a long time so I was thinking the MacBook Pro 16”. I’m unsure on which one to get.

@@matheusbraga2909 I haven’t gotten one yet but I decided on getting the MacBook Pro 16” in December! I found that I really liked the display for color accuracy and the built in ports would be very convenient for using my drawing tablet with it while on the go. I’m willing to sacrifice a bit more space in my bag for a tank machine with good battery life. I think the MacBook Pro would hold up well for my college years as my project workload increase. I hope this was helpful!
16 gb minimum required@@matheusbraga2909
What are you thoughts for a Lightroom workflow instead of video editing?
M2 MacBook Air should be good enough for photo editing!
I’m confused, should I get the Macbook Air M2 13in(16/256) or the Macbook air 15(8/256). My daily tasks are 4k video editing(as a hobby) and running some of my college works etc
get the 15 cuz it cools better, and just get one upgrade get the 512gb the extra storage will prob be needed for 4k vids, but the main reason is the 512 uses double the cards so its actually faster as well
A pro chip vs non pro chip? Of course the 14 will rock the 15 - thank you for creating videos for sure - I feel we need more basic day in the life - tech nerds know - people like my cousin or mom don’t know. That’s who we need to educate. Thanks for all you do. 😊
Appreciate you Chris! I was kinda hoping to see a huge improvement with the base M2, but alas no haha
That silver color still hits, timeless
Yeah it's nice!! Wonder if they'll bring colors to the MacBook Pro lineup!
I would like to see macbook pro vs macbook air 16/512
I might be tempted to test out the 1TB version and see how it performs!
A year later and Adobe's site still says no support for m2. Maybe I'm better with windows 11 here
I make music and also edit videos, do you recommend me the M2 Air 15inch 8gb ram 512gb or the M2 Pro 13inch with 8gb ram and 512gb
15 air with pro motion would be perfect man… I love thin and light but I want pro motion on all the things…..
That would be really cool actually!
Whaaaat it "No" cos it's took 16 mins!is that a long time?? Haven't started getting into video work yet but taking a few mins longer than the video for a bas model doesn't seem bad.i I would be angry if it was anywhere as quick as the pro.
I edit videos with the MacBook Air 15 1tb SSD and 16gb ram. It flies.
I see that the 1TB version does way better, so I might be tempted to try that out
@@SidneyDiongzon deff yes! I can get super technical with this but if you handle 4k footage, at 30fps. Then you have 30 images per second processing at 3840x2160 pixels per frame. If you’re “rendering” something, it means the Mac has to write every frame as fast as it can. The speed of the SSD determines part of that but the ram as well.
It’s fascinating…you can imagine what we can do with “live video” over the internet. (I’m working on it) 😎
It looks more premium with the bigger screen while less expensive, so it's better. If you need a faster computer then get the 16"
It's all subjective I think. Like I said in the video, this is gonna appeal to the mass majority of people out there
I think the Air will be great for most people. I think I'm more of a MacBook Pro kinda guy
M1 MacBook Pro for sure! If I haven’t seen the Yosemite video 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Never miss one, but you know that. Great Sidney breakdown! I love having the SD card on my Pro for sure.
MacBook Pro for lifeeeeee!!!!
The 15 inch m2 air with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd is much faster and better than the base model
i notice that a-lot of the reviews are based on the base model :(
Mine with that same config is on the way
Sid- love the videos but this is an unfair comparison to those not in the know. A spec’d out 24 GB M2 Air would probably hang pretty well with the 14” M1Max.
Kind of like a comparison for traveling with a family of 5 in a minivan vs. a 2 door coup
Maybe put BASE MODEL M2Air In the title
Either way keep up the great work👍
Fair point. Thanks for the suggestion!
Macbook pro m2 15inch base model is the same price as asus rog strix g16 which has 16 inch display, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, Intel Core i7 13650HX, Nvidia rtx 3060.
Windows gaming laptops are a cheaper 4k video editing option if you can't afford macbook pro m3 pro
well done. quite informative
Thanks so much!
I have mcb pro 14 M1. Apple is just trying to gouge more money by falsely saying m2 is much faster than m1. For most ppl m1 is more than efficient for everyday use and simple video editing.
The M1 is just too good still haha. Totally agree!
Me gusta macbook m2 Air para Erick
Totally unfair comparison!!
You can't compare the Pro device against the Air and the weaker version of it !!
But thanks for you'r videos 🙏🏻
comparisons don't have to be "fair" lol. That's why they're comparisons
@@SidneyDiongzon You are so much worse than Epstein. See, comparisons don't have to be fair.
Sidney, I really don't know what to say about this video. This is such an unfair comparison and the title makes it worse. (Edit: for clarity, the title has been changed)
I personally wanted to know if the base M2 MacBook Air would be great for my workflow and it isn't. It's just my opinion, but I don't recommend the M2 MacBook Air at all for creators like me.
@@SidneyDiongzon That is a fair thing to want to explore, but comparing the base model of an Air to the top model of a pro and not explaining the differences is not really fair to an uninformed audience and to someone like me; I am just left thinking, "duh." A title like, "The M2 Macbook Air is NOT for me," would be great and honest. Trying to be constructive here, as I like your content and don't want to be a dick. Sorry if I am coming across that way.
Oh I see you changed it. :)
@@dubenick You had a fair point
@@dubenick I still stand by what I said lol
the 512 is actually faster
I like the MacBook Air but it doesn’t compare when it comes to the MacBook Pro I’m sticking to the pros
Yeah, it makes me appreciate my M1 Max MacBook Pro. I'll just wait for the M3 Max haha
@@SidneyDiongzon that makes the two of us
😄
still using premiere pro???? such a sinnnnnnnnn!!!!!
I knowwwwwww.....
What else can we use alternative
@@AfsalKabeer most people moving to Da Vinci cuz it's free and better color grading tools
@@AfsalKabeer I've used premiere for years, I'm really liking DaVinci Resolve right now
@@SidneyDiongzon more video creators are no longer using Premiere Pro, so this test only applies to the stragglers
esp if you edit in Adobe
I’m a monster
I don't get how people are still in adobe. Davinci resolve is just as capable and wayyyyyyyyy faster, especially with the apple chips.
I know, I'm a monster haha
I refuse to use anything adobe
U saved me money 😅
GOOD!
you're trying to compare apples to oranges.
pretty sure they're both apple
😮
I know, I wanted to like the M2 MacBook Air sooooo bad!!!
I would never compare my Toyota Camry to my Lexus ES 350. Both are great cars but have different purposes. Not sure why the M2 Air is being compared to the Pro. Don’t expect “Pro performance” in an Air. Thanks for another unnecessary comparison!
I get what you're saying, but that's the beauty of comparison videos...you can compare ANYTHING because it's fun. Also, I really wanted to see how well the M2 would perform against the M1 Max. Really hoping it would have performed better too.
@@SidneyDiongzon I hear you…Now you have me really considering the M1 14” Pro. Thanks bro!
@@SidneyDiongzon Tbh it just depends on what u want if ur going for decent editing its well enough I bought the 15m2 macbook air when it came out and so far its doing good on editing. If u want super good editing might as well buy a pc for 1000$ with a good cpu and that would be good great video however keep up the good work
16gb 512gb is the sweet spot
I probably should have tested the bigger storage!
why are we using airs for work they weren't meant to do? like it can be used for work.. that doesn't mean its meant for it... never really got the point of these videos more than just views.
Because I was curious lol. Calm your face down
@@SidneyDiongzon curiosity is one thing.. stating what the product its expected limitations before hand sure.... this didnt seem like curiosity hence my comment.
@@SomeYuteYou sound like an ILLITERATE.
@@Feranthefilmmaker lol wow.. ok.. so asking someone why they are putting a system through stress it was never designed for is being illiterate? I'll keep that in mind..
@@SomeYute Yeah, keep it in mind.
Yeah there is no way. Specs don’t get better just because of branding. Know the hardware better and you know what not to buy.
yet another review thats just completely out of touch lmao
🌷 P R O M O S M
if you want content creation get the 16 inch pro
As far as music videos?
