For some reason I feel honored to be watching these episodes as they are released, because I know they will be revered for DECADES to come and watched long after I'm gone. Well done.
I never knew about the Death Wish Jimmy Page soundtrack. My god this series is going deep, it's already feeling like it's too good for RUclips which is a joke now. Netflix needs a series like this.
I remember the news when this soundtrack came out. I was really excited back then, but like most post Zeppelin efforts, it left me a bit diasspointed back then because I was expecting more Led Zep style content which obviously wasn't ever going to be the case. It solidifies the old saying that the band was better than the sum of it's parts.
I think the soundtrack is quite good. I play it at least once a year. Not so much for the Jones album though...it's okay for a few songs. Just my opinion.
@@fo8426 I'm a producer on RUclips, the site has gone to the dogs. It's no point producing anything here because it's impossible now to make a return. I'm not sure where all the money went, all I know is hard working producers here now get peanuts while Google make record profits.
Thanks for making this post Led Zeppelin series. I knew Jimmy and Chris Squire were jamming in early 81 but this is the first time I've heard the XYZ demos. They sound very promising. Too bad the group never came to fruition.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Thanks! I'm definitely gonna watch all 15 episodes. Thank you for making the series. I can tell from the first episode you put a lot of time and effort into it. Awesome 👍
I can tell you from experience and memory that as a new Zep fanatic in the late 80's (13-14 years old) I was over the moon about any mention of Zep or the individual members in magazines, on the radio and MTV. There was a serious Zep buzz in the air back in the late 80's. Their solo careers had become well known at this point along with the numerous hair bands that tried to mimick the Zep sound. This, I believe made it possible for the Page/Plant reunion to be such a success. MTV did a lot of Zep related things around 1988-1990. There were Zep weekends, full of videos and news, plus multiple showings of The Song Remains the Same. Watching that gave me goosebumps. I was glued to the TV on those special "Zep" weekends. The Boxed set was released in 1990 which contributed to the continuous Zeppelin buzz in the air. It was a great period for any Zeppelin fan.
Thank you for sharing your recollections at the time, funny enough, that's how 2001-2003 felt for me when i discovered the band. I stayed up late to record HOW THE WEST WAS WON from a radio broadcast on cassette. I didn't have the money to buy the 3cd set as i was in high school, it took me some years and my first day job to get it. The 80s had an interesting revival of Zepp you are right, and i feel many Hair Metal and Glam acts, are like, and i say this with respect....lost children of Zeppelin.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories yes it was an exciting time. (It sounds like you had a similar experience, just years later) Also, this was before the internet so the only way you knew about your bands was through magazines and of course the radio, their albums and occasionally MTV would do a Zep weekend. And those were AWESOME! There were 2 music clubs that would send info in the mail where you could buy 10 or 20 CD's for a few dollars. BMG and Columbia House. This is how I got most of my music on cassette tape. I can't tell you how many hours I spent listening to Zep and other bands over and over and over. Then, people were selling Zep bootlegs on cassette and I used to save up all of my money to buy them, one at a time over the next few years. Now, with youtube you can find these same bootlegs for free. But back then it took work, time and money. We invested so much of our time into our music which is why I hold Zep and a few other bands so close to my heart. Discovering and following Zep back then and through their solo careers was like a Caveman discovering Fire! My first concert was Jimmy Page on his 1988 Outrider tour. I was 1 month from turning 15. Amazing times. I am Still a Zep fanatic to this day. Please subscribe to my (new) music discussion channel as well. Keep Rockin' 🤘
I remember mtv was doing all this zep stuff in the late 80’s I was 12 going insane for it to happen then I saw the Atlantic 40th anniversary and well that was like 💦 after seeing that 🤣I then went on to see page in 88 for outrider was my first concert man what a night long live the mighty zep
That boxed set you mention was the first thing I ever owned by Led Zeppelin. The version I had was 4 cd's and came with a really nice booklet. Love the cover with the crop circles and the shadow of the Zeppelin blimp. I saw Page & Plant in 1998 on the tour for Walking Into Clarksdale. Awesome show. I was born in 1981 so I never got the chance to see Led Zeppelin unfortunately. Maybe I'll stumble upon a time machine someday 😉
Your productions are simply lavishly done and full of knowledge delicately teased from the past. Led Zeppelin's influence will resonate ad infinitum. One story for you, as a Rush guy it was heart warming to hear Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee's commentary on meeting Page and Plant, they were young fans again. One of the main bands for them to witness along with Yes. Merci for la musique! 🎶
Just Donated! Amazing work. Really enjoyed “In Through The Outdoor” analysis, it put a lot into perspective about this great group of artists. Zeppelin music is a enduring part of my youth that I appreciate more as I get older. Like fine 🍷!
George, i wanna say a BIG THANK YOU to you, i just saw your donation and smile, it means a lot and i hope the series lives up to the expectations, it has been a very interesting process, researching all the interviews, live shows, etc. I am grateful for your support and motivates me to keep going, i salute you!!
Last time I saw Plant was with Alison back in 08 i think. Was a great show and ive gotta say to my ears, his voice has gotten better or hes just more comfortable with the range hes singing in now a days from the videos of his more recent performances. So i think your gonna have a good time going to see him. Robert is always pushing the envelope and bringing different styles to familiar songs. I love it.
John Paul Jones - *_Scream for Help._* Thanks for mentioning this. I remember first hearing this when this came out. Loved - *_Spaghetti Junction_* and *_Silver Train._* If it ever makes it to iTunes I will purchase it. As of now I only have it on an old cassette that I taped off of the radio.
Fantastic album indeed, the closing track is Killer! Thank you very much for your support, if you haven't subscribed please do as it helps my channel big time!
Looking froward to this series, my favorite Robert Plant album is Pictures At Eleven and I went to his few tours and really enjoyed them since I was to young to see Led Zeppelin and I also really enjoyed the Firm, I will be tuning in to these videos.
...... Like always, your posts and researches are top quality, man! I am planning to make a cover of "can you imagine", which was part of XYZ repertoire, but as the project did never materialised, the guitar riff went to a song of The Firm and Chris' part was released on Yes' "Magnification". I isolated Chris Squire's vocals but I don't know if I can use it in my own version.........
Superb work (as always) and very insightful. I was pleasantly surprised how good those XYZ sound clips sounded. I am also a huge Led Zeppelin fan but never got into Yes, surprisingly the union sounded really good. Looking forward to the next episodes. Thank you
I discovered something about the XYZ bootlegs a while back, they're meant to be heard in mono and they're at the wrong speed. I remastered and pitch corrected them in Audacity and it wasn't amazing but it sounded better than the bootlegs I'd heard in the past.
Thank you so much Maxime, i did my own audio treatments to these demos, i remixed them sort of speak, to give them a more "live room" feel, always felt the original bootleg sounded flat and i want the listener to feel at the actual sessions. I love Chris Squire's voice and bass work, truly the soul and mastermind of YES!
Jimmy to this day is missed his contributions to music after Zep are there but not as the Les Paul weilding axeman genius as we knew . Coverdale/Page album is my favorite out of all post Zep stuff . xyz would of been great I think it's a shame Plant didn't give it a shot . Plant obviously was in a fit with Coverdale/Page then we get the Page/plant stuff which I am grateful for seen it live three times . Then saw crowes and page what a show . Plant sabatoged so much from 81 to now we could have got so much MORE Zep . ✌🏼 Awesome as always brother 🤘🏼
The thing is Page has never really understood how Plant works, psychologically, the way to get Robert in, is to apply reverse psychology. In the 80s he was just like a child...and well, i feel bad for Coverdale actually, the man was ALL IN with the project, Jimmy had an ally there and chose to go with Robert again, the same Robert who dissed Led Zeppelin as the past but made money out of it in the 90s. Their toxic relationship is beyond complicated! Thank you very much for tuning in! Episode 12 coming up next week!
Part of me wants to watch it in one marathon viewing as I did THE MAKING OF IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR, and another part of me can't help but watch this episode. I am more excited about this documentary than anything on T.V. or Netflix or RUclips or anything right now. This is so, so awesome. Thank you. (THE MAKING OF IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR is the best film I've seen in the last year, maybe more.)
It's amusing that Peter Grant was stuck on the idea of Yes coming before Zeppelin in the name XYZ. Perhaps Chris could have gotten around that by diplomatically saying they were saving the best for last. :) Thanks for this video. It sheds light on the aborted XYZ project. Loved hearing the demos! I do think it's interesting that they began rehearsals on January 4, 1981, only one month after Zepp called it quits and only four months after Bonham's death. Perhaps it was too soon? It certainly seems so for Plant.
Peter Grant couldn't let go of the power play and i don't blame him. Brian Lane from Yes was not a Father figure as Grant was for ZEPPELIN. So it was tough. It was maybe too soon. No way was going to play with them.
Thank you SierraModre i appreciate it! Lots of hours going thru so much material it pays off to read your comment :) Just a friendly reminder if you haven't subscribed please do as if helps my channel big time! CHEERS!
I cant wait for this video ! :-). There were some interesting things happening between solo albums and live aid and what not going on during the 80s. Gotta remember we got "Radio Active" from Jimmy and we got "In the Mood" from plant among many other things. Somewhere along the line comes Coverdale and Page which turned into Plant and Page :-P hehe. Interesting stuff and im glad your doing something on these years, lot going on and a lot most folks dont seem to know. My name is Walter and im actually popping on "Walters Walk" from Coda on my record player after seeing the image used here. ;-)
Not sure what date will the last episode be as i am currently editing more stuff but i can tell you, this topic has led me to so many moments i didn't know existed, speciallly stuff said on interviews!
Thank you very much O.H i appreciate it! Episode 2 premiered last week and Episode 3 comes tomorrow. I think this series is gonna be 10 episodes long aprox hehe. If you can please subscribe as it helps my channel big time!
Thank you very much Chris, the idea is to present these with passion and get immersed in the story, i am glad you like these! If you haven't subscribed it would help me big time! Stay tuned for Episode 4 coming out November 19th! Cheers!
Thank you, your 80's Led Zep series is excellent! All the period videos you've found bring me back to those years and remind me of how the 80's felt. The emerging MTV music channel made it feel like there were no limits to what bands could create. Such an interesting time.
Glad you like them DJ! This series was emotionally challenging i can tell you, to try and put myself in their shoes after Bonham's passing, depression was there, specially Jimmy! Thank you for watching!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I hear you Jose, you put your all into it and included those clips of your playing (for the In Through The Out Door series). You're a excellent guitarist, and the addition of your playing on the series makes it personal. Bravo
When you said that "post-Zeppelin music was like a birthday gift you didn't exactly want, but you had to be thankful for it anyway", it gave me goosebumps because that's exactly as I felt back in the day. Nothing created by Page or Plant has any resemblance to what we might have been expecting. Unfortunately Jones was not even on the radar, and maybe because pre-internet days, you would not have even known. What this means is the reinforcement that the band itsef was greater than the sum of its parts, and this saying is used a lot to describe situations, but in this case makes it blindly obvious. Greta work., Your videos on the history of Zeppelin is just amazing.
the music created by post LZ time frames...were interesting....however never reached the unattainable ascent to LZ....i only speak the obvious...no respect to any musicians during the 81-89 time frame
Absolutely Tom, the 80s reinforce that exact idea, Live 1985 should be called "the reason we didn't keep going after Bonham". Many many things i've discoverd while doing my research, hope i present them in the best way for you the Led Zeppelin fan. I appreciate your support big time!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories For sure mate... I see you are a massive fan like I am as havebeen since I was a young man. WOuld be great to chat with you if that was possible.

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories yes Page played his guitar with a violin bow whilst he was surrounded by lasers . Like I said I was only 16 in 1979 it was a long time ago 🌈☮️🌎❤️🇬🇧
I do really love Robert Plant's 'The Big Log'. The song and the video are great-the album 'The Principle of Moments' is pretty good overall. Jimmy Page's 'Outrider' album and of course 'The Firm' are solid. I think the 80's were hard for many established artists as it was so easy to make a corporate friendly album and cash in. David Bowie even did this.
Yeah even Bowie was affected, the problem i see with Plant specially is that he didn't have the proper experience in producing nor leading a band really...1985 gave me a interesting and sad find, you'll see, i think the golden god thing got to his head...again.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Years ago someone gave me their Robert Plant album 'Manic Nirvana'. Let's just say I know why it was readily given to me. When you sample old hit songs things have gone awry.
I don’t like post LZ era except Coverdale Page project that sounds like could sound LZ in 90’s but this video…opened my eyes, my ears, my mind and my heart thanks a lot!
That album was a favorite of my best Zep interpreter and teacher back then. He said: "Page's best work ever", but I think he was a bit buzzed at the time, which was rare for him.
Coverdale/Page has some of Jimmy's best recorded guitars, i agree 100%. Thank you for your comment, hope the 80s episodes shed some light into what my research has showed me, lots of interesting moments and Plant's...selfishness unleashed.
Love this opening! It's as if an announcer might do a voiceover saying, "Led Zeppelin on the next 'Miami Vice..."🙃 You have a flair not only for playing lead guitar, but for this amazing educational, historical, and rockin' Led Zeppelin documentary series. We who like to watch it ✋ are fortunate to observe this through your eyes. The timeline and the way you deliver it reminds me of why I fell in love with rock music from a toddler to now. My old man for almost 10 years now has played guitar since 10 years old, first band at 13, and from 87-92 played lead for a metal band in the mean streets of St. Louis, MO. We enjoyed watching you play live on your channel here. I just signed in at 2am Pacific time to watch both episodes of Post Zeppelin. This is not some Hollywood version of their history. This is how it should be done. If I sound over the top, so be it. I'm an average rock history enthusiast who studied my uncle's albums almost daily. I call him my musical big brother and I sometimes brag about listening to "Parachute" by The Pretty Things for the first time at 6 years old and I'm American, know what I mean? What 6 year old from Riverside, CA would know who they were but that's a whole other story. I remember reading about The Pretties signing with Swan Song and my uncle actually saw Led Zep in '69 maybe '68 and '70 too. My childhood rocked dude lol. Cheers!
Thank you so much Annette, your comment made my day. I have taken my time to research this as much as i can and sometimes i get very stressed over production details, reading your kind words makes it all worth really! Hope you like the rest of the series, going through their 80s stuff has answered many questions and made new ones as well. Music is really a gift for all of us, and we can keep it alive as much as we can!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories oh yeah I'm looking forward to the rest of it! I hope I don't sound silly when I say that you can't go wrong with this because of how you present the timeline, facts, music. Eh, too late now. ✋🌭
Great video. I think everyone is disappointed with Page’s output after Zeppelin. Yes the DW2 soundtrack was interesting, and the solo to Sea of Love was awesome, but it’s hit or miss with everything else. He hasn’t released any new music in more than 20 years. It’s a real shame.
Man! So so GOOD!! Thank you for creating these vids for our enjoyment and edification. Now and for all time. I love that you chose some of the more obscure, "back-water" areas of their history. That said though, please oh please keep going with these and hopefully we'll end up with a comprehensive Zep video-biography. PS- Also, maybe you're familiar with Terry Keating who does the Bonzoleum channel. He's commented (and I agree) that a sort of comprehensive, in-depth studio notes style vid of each of their albums, song by song, including all instruments played, recording techniques employed, players, writers, locations etc etc. would be really, REALLY cool. Admittedly those sort of vids might only appeal to the real die-hards, but then again you're making in-depth ITTOD analysis vids so it's probably right up your alley! Thanks again and GREAT WORK!!👍👍👍👍🫡🙏
Terry is the man, i actually want to record a collab with him, i appreciate your kind words, they make my day indeed. My back and eyes hurt from editing and researching like a manic but it's all worth! If you haven't subscribed it would help me big time! Stay tuned for Episode 4 coming out November 19th! Cheers!
JCM what a uncertain time. As fan we were all hungry for some from the Led Zeppelin hangar. So when Deathwish II came out this 15 yr old just ate it up then Plant's solo. I understood why they could not continue as they were but we all still had hope. Scream for Help was only released on CD in Japan as far as I know the LPs are pretty easy to find. If I come across a CD I will contact you. You played some tracks I never heard from the XYZ sessions. Plus I never heard the quote of Grant saying "but that means Yes comes before Zeppelin" ...haha loved that Grant still looking out for his boys. Much respect for all the time and effort you put into this. cheers -VK
Grant's quote was taken from his BIO Bring it on Home, a fascinating read it you come across the bcok, please read. Let me know on the CD for sure, i really, really love that album. Researching this decade has been exciting and depressing at the same time, after this i wanna listen to live 1970 zeppelin trust me hahaha. Interesting fact...i think i spotted how Plant's Lead Singer Syndrome got to him in 1985 and started to manipulate people into wanting to be a golden god again....the XYZ sessions received a special audio remix from my end to make them sound better or give them a LIVE feel to them, this project is time consuming i can tell you, thank you SO MUCH for supporting me, i mean it!
🌠💜Duuude this met my high expectation standard that I've set for u...very detailed..high quality...Jose U Rock !!! hope Page sees this...🌌🪐🌕 lookin 4ward 2 the next episodes !
Muchas gracias Ramiro, aqui estoy editando sin parar haha, esta es una historia emocionante y triste al mismo tiempo, una década ambigua y bipolar pareciera!
Doing my best not to miss a thing hehe, man, going over lost interviews, so many gems and treasures in there, Plant specially, his comments...unreal. Hope you like episode 2.
You nailed it when you said that their post-Zeppelin music was like a birthday gift you didn't exactly want, but you had to be thankful for it anyway. Great music breakdowns on the individual tracks! Your analysis brings depth and perspective to the song structures as they develop. Looking forward to the next chapters! Cheers brother
Hehe thank you! Bart's look when he got Lee Carvallo's golf game is priceless. Let me tell you, doing my research on this decade has taken a toll on my mood in a way, it starts out exciting but then as egos get in the way around 1984-1985 its depressing, speciall Plant whom i would say....acts out of envy and insecurity, you'll see why. I want to finish the series and listen to Led Zeppelin live 1970 because i have immersed myself in the emotions, the vibe and the desperation of their 80s story. I can't see if you have subscribed but if you haven't please do as it helps my channel (sorry if this sounds like a public service announcement hehe, cheers)
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories yes, subscribed when I discovered your first ITTOD installment. Just wanted to put this out there. Some have said JPJ Scream For Help was out of print but the vinyl can still through Spotify on JPJs page. It is $18.50 US
A wicked session indeed, imagine had they recorded more stuff, Chris Squire was a powerhouse from every angle and Alan White was the drummer that clicked with him. Page was very fortunate to have this project happen, even though they were only demos. Thank you for tuning in Episode 1! Episode 11 premieres this coming Saturday January 14th.
Big Yes fan here also! Glad you enjoyed this one, imagine had they carried on! But his led to 90125 in a way, so gotta thank Jimmy for leaving it here.
Astute move if 'umble, paying to play on DW II. It's Jimmy's finest moment post Zep. It's a window into the ghost album LZ X. It's a lifeline to a self destructive possibly suicidal man. Well done PG. Nice Scoop JCM.
You're a real Led Zeppelin fan . I enjoyed your 'making of In Through the Out Door ' videos immensely. I grew up in the 80s and I would scoff at the idea that any of the bands on MTV were in Zeppelins league. No band was as versatile. Also , I liked Page's score for DW2 even more than I liked the soundtrack. He really nailed it especially for a guy who never did a film score before
Thank you sir i appreciate it! This Zeppelin fever is still strong, not sure when will it end hehe. Death Wish was a great soundtrack, the arrangements and textures, i believe Page should have done more stuff like this!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories It seems to me that Page would have been a natural choice for scoring films because he's so good at creating drama and conveying moods with music. He was the master of anthemic, dramatic rock music and it never came off as overblown or corny. He really has an understanding of the way music can create tension, joy , mystery etc in the mind of the listener.
He sure knew how to create drama in 1977 hehe. Yes i agree with you absolutely. His session player years work in favor to become a great soundtrack composer!
As a Zeppelin fan I gravitated to these recording after the break up. I think the best thing to come out post Zeppelin was CODA. Not that Jimmy and Robert didn't have great works. I actually think Plant's best post Zepp project was Pictures at Eleven and if this was just a bit heavier it could have been a master piece. JPJ was the bass and keyboard player for Zepp but so much more. For me his post Zepp works were so so at the time. As I go back and revisit his works I see the genuis of JPJ. Jimmy's works although not bombastic it was still Jimmy Page. I felt Jimmy post Zepp was a lost sole not knowing where he fit in! Jimmy in Zepplin was the fire, the extreme! He made Zeppelin heavy although JPJ and Bonzo delivered the heavy Jimmy was the fire that raged above it. When I speak of the genius of JPJ it is mostly underrated and underrecockinzed in Zepp. The genius of Jimmy Page was the use of the genius of JPJ in the orchestration of many of Zeppelin's works. Post Zeppelin that was gone as was the power of Bonzo and Plant. The magic that were these musicians was the unit that was Led Zeppelin. Your productions are honorable to the legacy with the utmost care and dedication. I thought the ITTOD series was phenomenal and with your insight it brings a new way to see and hear the greatest works of music in modern time! In the absence of Zeppelin I strolled the streets of music since but there's only one street I feel at home and that's Zeppelin Blvd. Thank you for giving your perspective and many just another reason for the love of this great band!
I'v loved Zep since I discovered an old scratched copy of 'Presence' in my deceased Brothers record collection in 1978. You sir are on a whole nother level...
If you haven't checked out this album I recommend it, it's by John Paul Jones and it's called Scream For Help and it's him doing all the instruments by himself and Jon Anderson and Jimmy Page is on it. You'll understand why he became the glue in their later years and kept things together.
Hey Steve! Welcome to my Patreon, just saw the notification! Awesome. Scream for Help is an average movie but Jones' soundtrack is worth checking out, Bad Child is an infectious disco/funk tune. I made a cover here on the channel!
That's funny about ZYZ. The closest was Page joining YES on stage for I'm Down and later Jon Anderson singing on JPJs Scream For Help soundtrack. I read After 2016 Page wanted to release the XYZ demos- let me know! Thanx JCM
This series has been exciting and depressing at the same time hahahah. Lots ot research behind this, the idea ia not to miss a single detail. Please subscribe as this helps my channel big time! Hope you like the series.
I LOVED the Death Wish 2 soundtrack...and the movie too. I wasnt crazy about Chris Farlowes voice, but i got used to it over time I never saw Zeppelin, but i was a big fan, saw the movie SRTS in 76, and learned to play a LOT music by '78 on guitar, and then in bands I earned the nickname 'Ed Zeppelin' eventually, because my friends would come over to smoke my pot and id be learning some zep song off a record...'Lets go see what Ed Zeppelin' is doing tonight. I learned all kinds of other music too, ..but at that time it was mostly zep. I saw the Firm twice, got Pages autograph, saw Plant solo twice....but they werent even in the ballpark w Zep. I like how you do things, i subscribed
As a fellow guitarist myself, i salute you ED ZEPPELIN! Thank you for watching! Hope you like the entire series and what an honor coming from you a seasoned musician who KNOWS his stuff!
This isn't about the who, but they had the same problem. They did continue with a new drummer with so-so results. Roger has been vocal that he's not real proud of the last two records they made. Zepoelin would have had the same fate if they made another record with a new drummer. Bonham and moon were not replaceable.
I wish XYZ (Jimmy Page plus Chris Squire and Alan White) had found a way to become a fourpiece. Robert Plant was invited but turned it down but I wish they'd maybe considered Paul Rogers who later wound up in The Firm with Page. The Firm cut an XYZ track on their second album, Fortune Hunter and it wasn't bad but I think a version with Page, Squire, White and Rogers would have been better. The Rhino CD reissue of Yes' Drama has a track Satellite cut when Yes was down to a trio of Howe, Squire and White that's an early instrumental version of XYZ's Telephone Secrets. It's interesting to contrast the way Howe and Page interpret the guitar parts. I played the Yes' Satellite and the XYZ tapes to a friend of mine who's a big Zep fan. He said he really liked XYZ's Mind Drive but said he preferred the way Howe played Satellite/ Telephone Secrets.
First, thank you for this series young man. I think you discovered Zeppelin in the early 2000's, correct? At any rate, I was a huge Zeppelin fan, not saying I dislike them now, not at all, just don't listen as much to really any music, now that I'm a lot older, will be 56 years old soon. So, I'm listening, or just finished the first episode of "In Through The Out Door".. However, I listened to this first, before that.. Going to tie in some comments about this time period, late 70's through the 80's, and combine a few things, from my perspective. First, allow me to be "Captain Obvious", haha.. Zeppelin was and is highly influential, massively popular, etc.. In my opinion, the premiere rock & roll band of their time, and on the Mount Rushmore of Rock bands, with The Beatles and Stones, and the fourth band would be up for debate, and I exclude ELVIS, whom I'm a huge fan of, because he's in his own category, as I view it. Anyway, that late 70's through 80's time period, for me having turned 18 in 1985, I became a Zeppelin fan in the late 70's, like middle school. The way I remember it, "In Through The Out Door", was well received by our older brothers, cousins and neighborhood kids, the ones in high school already, and my age group just behind them came along for the ride, since my age group also liked Kiss, Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, etc.. When we heard Zeppelin in more detail, it was the grandeur and epic sound that got us.. We also got our hands on a bunch of bootlegs of their earlier concerts, due to cassette tapes becoming popular, so we got to hear concert recordings from the early days, since that's the ONE band, we all wanted to see but missed out on.. I'll be honest, a lot of this information, I already knew, BUT, you have rekindled my interest. I will tell you Zeppelin was so influential, that when Bonzo said he really liked The Police, that my friends and I started listening to them, and liked them as well, because they had the "Zeppelin seal of approval".. My favorite Robert Plant album, Pictures At Eleven, because that sounded the most like Zeppelin.. XYZ would have been fantastic, as I liked it, had heard those recordings many years ago.. My age group always held out hope Zeppelin would return but except for a few reunions, alas it wasn't meant to be.. I know for a fact, because it was reported at that time in the music press, that when Zeppelin took the stage at Live Aid in 1985 in Philadelphia, PA, that all the major rock/pop stars, like Madonna, etc.. that were there looked on just to see the Mighty Zep that day, even though they wound up sounding awful, but those things happen.. I remember the 1988 reunion, and a good number of my frat brothers and I watched that at the frat house, because we had heard they were playing with Jason that night.. For me, I really liked The Firm.. Zeppelin meets Bad Company, good stuff, as I view it, especially with the 1980's being so lacking musically, very pop driven, etc.. It would have been awesome to have seen Led Zeppelin in the 1980's for my age group, it really is awful what happened to Bonzo, and especially awful for his family, his son, etc.. I will put my thoughts about Zeppelin like this, think about it, at Knebworth, Page is high on smack, Bonzo is having his issues, Plant has gone through the loss of his son two years prior, etc.. They are not on top of their game for Knebworth, BUT, Zeppelin is so talented that at their worst, they sound better than any band at that time or any time after that, including the present could sound under the same circumstances, because Zeppelin were just that great.. Zeppelin at their worst, is better than any band at their best, as I view it. My apologies for the long post.
For some reason I feel honored to be watching these episodes as they are released, because I know they will be revered for DECADES to come and watched long after I'm gone. Well done.
Hes the best. The girls voice was great on the last documentary though..
haha i know about her voice, i know....but well i don't have covid no more, i can narrate these now!
Thank you so much Vic i appreciate it! 80s MODE ON!
I would suggest you have RUclips and Netflix in the wrong order
@@fo8426 I'm a producer on RUclips, the site has gone to the dogs. It's no point producing anything here because it's impossible now to make a return. I'm not sure where all the money went, all I know is hard working producers here now get peanuts while Google make record profits.
Love Jam Sandwich…
Thanks for making this post Led Zeppelin series. I knew Jimmy and Chris Squire were jamming in early 81 but this is the first time I've heard the XYZ demos. They sound very promising. Too bad the group never came to fruition.
These demos are quite special yes, so much going on there. Quite the band! I am glad you enjoyed this one, hope you check all 15 episodes on the 80s!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Thanks! I'm definitely gonna watch all 15 episodes. Thank you for making the series. I can tell from the first episode you put a lot of time and effort into it. Awesome 👍
..... Blame Trevor Rabin 😂😂😂😅😊
Fantastic start to the series ...waiting for episode two. Great work JCM !!!!!!
Thank you Mr. Zeppearl! I appreciate it, working non-stop to get all the episodes in time!
I am floored that you have the XYZ demos. They are practically mythological!
Hehe, yes they are, i worked them a bit, did some audio treatments to enhance the sound :)
They've been on the 'net for years now.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Led Zeppelin forever!

I love your work, JCM! Your documentaries are very important to many Zeppelin fans. *Salute!* Thank you!!!
Thank you Sir! Currently editing like crazy, the story has led me to some interesting and unexpected places!
the XYZ stuff was great...they could have had some great radio hits with those songs
I appreciate your kind words John! Oh yes i've read Alex' story on meeting the ZEPPs, its so cool to see he is STILL a fan at heart!
its almost as if....... THE BAND had made its statement & left its mark & completed its mission.
What's your favorite 80s solo album? Stay tuned :) Cheers!

I'm actually heading to see Robert plant the day after this is released , superb timing! 👌
Oh man GREAT! please share your impressions on the show. You are lucky to watch the man Himself!
I love it.
That is the best he ever sounded imo@@ctcards2636
I’m finding myself not wanting these videos to end.
Thank you Mike i appreciate it! Hope you like the series!
John Paul Jones - *_Scream for Help._* Thanks for mentioning this.
I remember first hearing this when this came out. Loved - *_Spaghetti Junction_* and *_Silver Train._*

Great! Looking forward to episode 2!
❤Thank you for sharing your love of Led Zeppelin. Excellent video :)

"Denial gospels", beautifully explained. Amazing insights. Thank you!

Brilliant work. I always knew about the XYZ work, but this is the first time I heard the tracks. Great research. TY.
You're welcome :) I did some audio treatments on the XYZ demos to make them sound more dynamic and LIVE.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Tremendous effort. Your videos are top-shelf. TY.
It's amusing that Peter Grant was stuck on the idea of Yes coming before Zeppelin in the name XYZ. Perhaps Chris could have gotten around that by diplomatically saying they were saving the best for last. :)
Thanks for this video.
Wow, this is incredible stuff Jose, thank you so much… this is put together brilliantly

Thank you very much! I've been really immersed on researching this period, lots of gems, lots of grief, they were trying to find themselves really.

It's as if an announcer might do a voiceover saying, "Led Zeppelin on the next 'Miami Vice..."🙃
You have a flair not only for playing lead guitar, but for this amazing educational, historical, and rockin' Led Zeppelin documentary series.
Page is a case study of its own, i think he never got past Bonham and his emotions got stuck in 1980 or maybe, 1979.
I Feel the Death Wish II soundtrack
is a Hidden Gem

Anyone who wants to hear this amazing session, can find it here: ruclips.net/video/01kcszSzoTk/видео.html
Nice stuff man! That full session rocks!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories This is as close as we'll ever come to hearing what Yes would have sounded like with Jimmy Page on guitar. It's priceless.
Great opening and ending credits music on death wish 2. Great movie too
Hiw cool is this. So interesting and beautifully done.
The death wish 2 soundtrack is my favorite post led Zeppelin lp
I am still looking for that CD! It's a masterpiece!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories it's extremely rare on CD I own it on vinyl I was lucky to get it on vinyl
I know right? There's Japanese Cd versions on discogs but they are quite pricey. Did a cover of BAD CHILD here on the channel btw.
lovin your doco’s jose ☝🏻
oh what the 80's would have been with Bonzo alive n well, XYZ was just not a proper fit Plant knew! but ALL amazing musicians! nailed it again JCM
Never even heard of Scream for Help.
Hey Steve! Welcome to my Patreon, just saw the notification! Awesome. Scream for Help is an average movie but Jones' soundtrack is worth checking out, Bad Child is an infectious disco/funk tune. I made a cover here on the channel!
I love your videos bro
Hey bro thank you so much. Hope you enjoy the series and more videos coming up.
That's funny about ZYZ. The closest was Page joining YES on stage for I'm Down and later Jon Anderson singing on JPJs Scream For Help soundtrack. I read After 2016 Page wanted to release the XYZ demos- let me know! Thanx JCM
Great series.. respect ✊
Great series coming👌
Glad you think so! That´s what she said?
Amazing!
You really are obsessed! OK I'm in, love the 80's opening music - the antithesis of Zep!!!
This series has been exciting and depressing at the same time hahahah. Lots ot research behind this, the idea ia not to miss a single detail. Please subscribe as this helps my channel big time! Hope you like the series.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Done
Awesome!!
I LOVED the Death Wish 2 soundtrack...and the movie too.
I wasnt crazy about Chris Farlowes voice, but i got used to it over time
I never saw Zeppelin, but i was a big fan, saw the movie SRTS in 76, and learned to play a LOT music by '78 on guitar, and then in bands
I earned the nickname 'Ed Zeppelin'
eventually, because my friends would come over to smoke my pot and id be learning some zep song off a record...'Lets go see what Ed Zeppelin' is doing tonight.
Agree 100% Thank you very much for your support, if you haven't subscribed please do as it helps my channel big time!
Let's not forget The Song Remains The Same is Page channeling his own Steve Howe-ness! Great comment Chrome, i appreciate it!
My apologies for the long post.
thank you for sharing a detailed account of you music perspective and the times, i appreciate it as the story helps me to remind myself of the mood!
