    It’s too bad ARTPOP was managed badly, it had lots of potential but on the other hand I’m grateful it didn’t went well because we wouldn’t have had cheek to cheek and joanne which showcase less pop craziness and more raw talent

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  3 года назад +7

      ARTPOP was such a tragedy, but agreed! I genuinely think that the Oscars performance, Cheek to Cheek, and Joanne altogether gave the general public no excuse to not stan. ASIB took her over the top.

    • @antichris5896
      @antichris5896 2 года назад

      The cheek to cheek part is not true. Tony Bennett and lady Gaga were planning a jazz album since 2011, before ARTPOP

  • @snikovsky

    I love how in 2011 everyone tried to emulate Gaga's over-the-top spectacle performances and appearances and then after Joanne, the quest for more intimate and raw sound and lyrical storytelling. She's ahead.

    Curious you'd consider The Cure as part of Joanne. Personally I thought it was a bit of a move to release something with a much more generic sound. Maybe to soften the transition or for her label to feel comfortable that listeners can see she is able to do those more gentle, mod tempo tracks (I love the song personally and it felt like a saving grace for the era).
    Joanne is a tough album just because of where Gaga was. She seems so fragile and broken in the documentary that tried to project more 'art' on a flawed album than there was really there, but it showed exactly the fragile place she was at. It was worse that she was surrounded by Yes Men, quite clearly, and how you ever hope to grow if living in a bubble like that? It's been the demise of many a pop and rock artist.
    I'm glad she did her thing with writing and acting. She achieved a lot and it gave her some much needed perspective.
    Chromatica is one of my favourite albums ever.

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  3 года назад +6

      The Cure had to be an outtake from the ASIB sessions or something, it’s so different from the Joanne fare. Though I wish it had been promoted more because it organically hit the top 40.
      The Yes Men and her Haus falling apart following Artpop which I adore really made Joanne a necessary reset. Like it’s an important addition to her canon, I hate how dismissive people are of it.
      Chromatica will always be a “what if” era to me, it blew up even with a pandemic but insiders allege that she had a full docket of promo planned. SNL, Coachella, the Ball, and so many more surprises would have made it a supernova era. I fear that her returning to film will deprive us of another amazing era. She’s been cast in multiple films and turned down a Marvel role recently, so she’s in demand. How that affects her music output is up in the air.

    Thank you for wrapping up the best commentary video on the joanne era! I wouldn’t have said it any better! People would go off and project that idea that joanne was boring and was a failure and it’s completely not true at all it’s perhaps one of my favorite gaga eras and it’s by far the most different and exciting to see her showcasing more talent and vocals without them being overshadowed by her heavy production like her previous efforts

      @@tobiasreeks5613 I agree with it requiring actual active listening. I think records that demand that level of attention in 2016 of all years were disadvantaged. I think people would have more patience for it now. Revisiting this year actually helped it click for me.

    I feel if Gaga didn't have Joanne, Gaga wouldn't have made Chromatica. Chromatica isn't the most groundbreaking, but she seems more happier now.

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  3 года назад +7

      Chromatica definitely about the healing process and likely influenced by how some of her older fans took Joanne. Bloodpop who produced Joanne and Chromatica is sort of to blame for why the music sounds the way it does. I wish SOPHIE’s tracks had been released but for all we know they sound so different from Bloodpop’s work

    Success is when you drop the record that people really BUY & STREAM, by demand lmao. Longevity is something rare for Gaga, only the Fame got it, anything else didn't, she's not on charts, her albums didn't enter the charts since they got washed out. SUCCESS. IS. SOMETHING. GAGA. HAS. LOST. B or C-lister nowadays

  • @mikeandthediamonds

  • @mikeandthediamonds

    Not everything that topped the chart is a success. Only person who can have SUCCESS is Taylor Swift. 3 million copies of Joanne is nowhere near to 11 millions of Lover, 10 of rep or 9 of Midnights gosh. Everything is a success for you. She flopped for a reason, even ASIB wasn't a bombastic success except Bradley's Shallow (featuring Gaga lmao)
