    The exterior shots in the Kuberick version of the Shining were filmed at Timberline Lodge Mt. Hood. The second movie was filmed at the Stanley Hotel Estes Park, Co. ..the hotel that inspired King to write the novel! Mt. Hood is nevertheless majestic! Thank you for the shots of it!

    When my marriage fell apart 25 years ago I got a job working 3rd shift and an apartment near a railroad track. Well I didn't think it was that close, but I guess 2.5 blocks is close enough. Anyway at the time I was depressed and dealing with un-diagnosed hypothyroidism. I would come home in the morning and CRASH. The first few weeks I thought my neighbor was learning to play the trumpet! Somehow I would go into a very deep sleep and only hear the train whistle maybe once or twice. Then after a while I began to feel better and I began to think that the "the trumpet player" was getting pretty darn good! Even though I heard the whistle more I kind of started to enjoy it and then go back to sleep. Eventually I learned that needed to address the thyroid condition and when I did I realized it was the train whistle I had been hearing all long! LOL I think I laughed at myself all day long that day! Soon after I bought my own house farther away from the tracks. Where are you guys? Still at home with visitors? I miss your current posts. Love you & Ausia & MooMOo

    You guys gotta learn to play a game whenever something like a train keeps you awake. Every time the train honks it’s horn you change positions, if you know what I mean, nudge, nudge, wink, 😉 wink. Say no more. Hahahahaha Love you two. Cheers!!!

    I wanted to see those rocks piled on top of each other in the water where you were walking around. I don't know if you saw them there. I kept talking to the phone saying " I want to see those".... Haha, like you could hear me. They looked to be a good 3 feet tall. I know people pile and balance them like that, I just think they look cool.

      @rasalas2x 5 лет назад +1

      Not trying to disagree but a visit to Washington would show you much more beautiful and there are still places to be almost or completely alone. The Adirondacks are over populated and over run with people many of whom have no business in the campgrounds and on the trails. From a lifelong Western NY resident who travels the country in a PU camper looking for the combination of beauty and remote enjoyment.

    The loudest train I ever encountered was along the Columbia River at Biggs Junction. I had spent 3 days loading Farm equipment on 4 Semi's in Pendleton Oregon in December, -20 degree weather with 40mph winds. I went to bed about 10:00 pm and was awakened around 2am. I would'a swore the train came right down the hallway of the little motel. Woke the dead (me at least) and it was a long train. Left about 4, I was wide awake, trains came through about every 15 minutes....James

    The reason the trains were blowing their horns was that rail crossing you went over as you left. Trains are required by law to signal when approaching and crossing a road of any kind. And they have to start signaling within a certain distance until they reach the actual crossing. In fact, some of the newer trains do it automatically. The engineer doesnt even have control of it.
