I know good state schools like UW:Madison, University of Minnesota:Twin cities, UChicago, UT:Austin etc all have some standout programs that are way better than the ivies. Esp. In technology and engineering.
In Asia the best colleges are mostly govt funded and in these colleges if you happen to have lower income, most of your fees will be forgiven and paid by the govt the only downside is, the administration is really strict with everything and if you slack off too much you will be left in dust by your classmates leading to depression edit: As the term Asia is quite big, i meant countries like India, china, Japan etc

And I was only able to go to college cuz I had a 3.8 GPA and skipped a grade as well as being the highest performing math student all 3 years I spent in my school for several math tournament things our school used to do. And thats the only reason I was able to get scholarships to go to college. Its incredibly expensive here, and debt forgiveness basically never happens. And even worse, you cant even declare bankruptcy on Student Debt so you're stuck with it forever.
