Likewise Mikey, this type of store brings back decades of memories for me. I will never forget entering Tower Records in San Francisco in late 1970 when I was 18. It was an entire converted giant grocery store full of records of every type of genre of music. I was in music heaven. I had never experienced anything like it before or since. And the music was, by and large, just better then. There was no internet or video games to speak of and people spent their disposable income dollars buying records. It was just a much better time. Yeah there was the Vietnam War but that also inspired some great music. Mainly, it was a time when the music greatly mattered to millions of young people. I would not want to be a young person today. Those years were the golden age of popular music.
I was 20 in 1975 also went in the Sunset Tower records at least 50 times! Always had great selection of LP’s and some cassettes, this was before CD’s players were invented in 1984 by Philips and Sony no Baloney! LOL It’s a parking lot now!
I moved to Berkeley in 1996, and patronized this store for years. It was always packed with people and energy -- long lines at the multiple cash registers to check out. In those days, if you wanted to hear the music, you had to buy the physical product. Going to Amoeba was a night out. I'm still in Berkeley, and nowadays, you enter Amoeba, and it's comparatively like a ghost town -- still fantastic, but a different energy. Very few clerks and customers. New technology brings profound changes. I'm not complaining. I've migrated to streaming too. But I've kept all my physical media and my nostalgia for the way things once were.

The original Amoeba! I spent so much money there growing up in the East Bay. Telegraph was an amazing spot for record shopping back in the 90s. Lepolds, Tower, Rasputin, Amoeba, and a host of others as you kept going. The clearance section at Amoeba was ridiculous, I see items I should've bought back then popping up on Ebay for $$$$. I remember when the SF store opened, it took over a bowling ally in the Haight, just an overwhelming amount of inventory.

That's exactly what I'm talking about !! Back in the day most of us who didn't t live in New York or Cali would have a bitch of a time just finding decent music .In the 70's and 80's even mail order was tough to find records . Now everything you pointed out we can listen with just a click . The greatest thing that happened to HI Fi in the last 50 years is streaming . Yea if I had a store like this up in Canada I might gets back into LPs but that's not happening . Great stores they have (3) also 1 in SF sand 1 in Hollywood on Hollywood Blvd near La Brea! I’ve been to the store in Hollywood many times they also sold used DVD, and Blu-rays and of course used LP’s! They also sold Music Hall entry level USB crappy low Budget Turntables!
Proper record store 😁 we have a few in Glasgow and a hmv which just plays at the idea, record shops like this are a dying breed which is a shame because I think they have a place in the music industry, you get the opportunity to meet other audiophiles etc 😁 stop saying if I had a turntable and just get one you know you want to and they sound much better than digital in my opinion 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have that Bob marley album it sounds great 😁
Murder in the Front Row is a documentary film of the Bay Area thrash metal scene of the eighties. And about all the slamming, diving and thrashing in the moshpit those days, in the front row. Awesome! \m/O\m/

I used to score used sacd's there until the staff realized they weren't regular cd's! Now it's fairly rare to find one there at all. Awesome store !
