Gears is in one very foul mood, so nothing is really new there. However, the Decepticons suddenly strike and get the drop on him. The thing is, all they want from him is his personality cartridge. Now, Gears has one heck of a sunny disposition no matter who he is around. Meanwhile, the Decepticons have the final component for the space needle. If they aren't stopped, the sun itself will be destroyed.

According to his Tech Specs, Gears is quite strong and tough, has infrared sensors, and can do twenty-mile long 'jet jumps' using compressed air thrusters (presumably in his feet). Not a bad stretch of powers, really.
I kind of miss the old days where each transformer had at least one “super power”.

I was thinking it was always convenient that the decepticons only tried shit within a short driving distance of the autobot base
Seeing as how none of the Autobots that were present can fly, I thought this was going to be the introduction to the Aerialbots or something. 2 hours still wouldn't be enough time if we assume they travel as fast as actual planes but it would have made more sense than them driving to Africa in 2 hours from the US (or any amount of time for that matter).

The beginning of this episode helped remind everyone, as did Michael Bay, a crucial point that fans tend to forget: the Transformers are hella scary when you're a human trapped between them!

You know, the way Megatron said "Bring me the Autobot, Gears" could've easily been taken out of context. I know he meant he wanted Gears the robot, but it almost sounded like he was telling Soundwave to rip gears out of the Autobots.

Don't forget shortly after , he also kicked a boulder like a soccer ball to save WheelJack from the falling tower. He displayed he has a mean right foot , twice in one episode . Insecticon KickBack would be proud.

Gears was a true warrior, especially, the way he spun Starscream around and made him collide with Soundwave. So, Gears basically, took down 2 decepticons which is impressive for a mini bot.
And yet the movie nerfed and massacred them, just to sell kids new toys. I honestly believe the show had more than enough Autobots with just the S1 cast. I like some of the S2 guys like Blaster and Tracks. Inferno, Grapple and Hoist were big guys for some added muscle, and the Aerialbots added some much needed air support, but It was the Decepticons who really needed more recruits.

@@collegerebel the movie didn't nerf a thing, autobots had plot armor in the first 2 seasons. They should be weaker than the decpticons on G1 since they're not build to be weapons
I think most of the 1st season minibots other than bumblebee got a bit of brawn's strength huffer says he's one of the strongest autobots too

A giant device that can absorb the power of the sun to create energy? So that's where Revenge of the Fallen got that idea from.
Well, in this version, Megatron's device looks more tame than the Fallen's.

One of my favorite episodes, no doubt about it. G1 really portrayed the Autobots as a family-team.. Love that detail. They all had shiny personalities. Even grumpy Gears.

Also harvesting the Sun within the continent of Africa? A bit too specific to just be a coincidence. Perhaps Revenge of The Fallen took inspiration.

This is actually a pretty well written episode. Lots of mechanical jargon, more so than some other episodes. It's also fun to see Rachet show his proficiency with kicking things. First Skywarp then a boulder. Who knew? This episode also has one of my favorite subtle things that I love: That is watching Rachet and Wheeljack struggle to get the panel off the machine only to have Prime rip it off to save time. Then there's just a little more suspension added for fun with the two arguing over which cable to pull. I just like little details in a show designed to sell toys
A solar panel isn't enough for Megatron. No, he needs a 93 million mile long straw made of energy. Greedy, isn't he? RIP Don Messick (voice of Gears)

To me Starscream is like an unwanted child who tries to impress his abusive dad-figure and gain his respect and love, but then sees that's useless and fights him. Their relationship is like an annular rollercoaster. One episode they work toghether, but Megs still mocking him, and the other episode Starscream tries to get revenge for disrespect and sabotages Megs plans. For what Megs keeps mocking and abuse Starscream. An infinite circle of revenge and disbelieve.
And that's kinda familiar and sad

Gears is slept on so much by the Transformers community in general. He's just as valuable as the other Autobots, but he gets swept under the rug along with Windcharger. This is one of my favorite episodes of G1 as a whole, and I personally really wish Gears would come back in the form of a new toy.

So true. For the past few months, I’ve been collecting Transformers figures from War For Cybertron(Siege, Earthrise and Kingdom), Studio Series 86 and Legacy. My main goal was to at least have all the original cast of Autobots and Decepticons that crashed on Earth from the 1st season. The problem was the last figure I needed: Gears. They just don’t have a modern G1 accurate version of him. So I had to resort to a Third Party company called Bad Cube and they have a figure called “Grump” which is basically Gears but with no Autobot symbols. Other than that, he is 100% the cartoon version of Gears. Not cheap. Cost me $80 plus tax. I had to put an Autobot symbol on his chest from a sticker company called Toyhax. My 1984 original cast is now complete except for Buzzsaw since they don’t have any modern figures of him.
He's had a few.
There might be a Legacy Gears coming!
All I've noticed is that he seems to get hated on for some reason. I guess because he's grumpy?

I like how some transformers get like a whole episode for their debut, but some, like gears just get like a ten seconds intro where they say something, another guy responds saying their name and then the move on. Beach comber and perspector had it the worst though. Literally just walk up to chip tell him his name and transform into a MICROSCOPE never to be seen again in that episode

Knowing that Gears is played by Don Messick, I can definitely hear his Astro from the Jetsons voice.

Man I love this episode there’s so much excitement but also it keeps you entertained till the very end and there’s so many scenes just showing how much the autobots care for eachother

I guess that's why the Decepticons couldn't feint attacking one part of the of the world while the real Attack is happening on the total opposite side of the world. The Autobots can drive anywhere, so fast and so easily

That always bugged me. I'm a long haul truck driver and I couldn't even get from New Jersey to Ohio in one day, let alone two hours.

Can you all stop the hate on Bay? I am not even his fan, but you guys are annoying. If anything, you should be grateful to Bay because his movies saved the Transformers franchise, which was dying in the 2000s. FYI, this episode inspired the Revenge of the Fallen movie. And that movie was produced during the writers' strike, so it was filmed with an incomplete script. Can't really blame Bay for that.
