I ended up buying the Affinity Designer course from Udemy for the computer. It was so good that I wanted to get the one for the iPad, but it's the same drawing (not that I blame you). If it had been a different illustration, I think I would have gone for it. You have to be one of the best online instructors out there! I had used Illustrator and was pretty familiar with that, but was having trouble transferring over to Designer. Now I love it, and can't recommend your Udemy courses enough. Hopefully, I can learn enough skills on how to work with the iPad that I can use most of what I learned for the computer.
Downloaded AD about a month ago and have been super intimidated to dive in after years of working on desktop in Illustrator. Your video has gotten me PSYCHED UP about creating stuff on the iPad. The part about the shapes sort of blew my mind and I haven't seen that discussed in a lot of other videos. Thx!
Love this app, still learning tho. I typed this by putting my finger down Now that I watched the vid my favorite feature is drawing with rope stabilizer when using the vector brush then being able to edit nodes if needed.
As always your awesome brad, I created a video a while back about my 5 favorite features of this app and you have mentioned all of it. and now after watching your video I feel like I need to explore more on the app.... really awesome!
Okay, I just bought the iPad course after watching the entire RUclips 10 Tips. I don’t care if it is the zombie again; I’m excited to learn how to work on my iPad (especially since I just got the newest iPad Pro)!
Had to pause the video just to say “Thanks!” All os your videos are excellent, but this one helped so much with all the little frustrating me to tears things in Affinity iPad! I’m an Ai girl but love this app as well! Thanks again!
For me (UI designer), best feature is gestures, really nice implementation, in general great to have such powerful tool on the tablet. I want to fast forward, to see answer from adobe XD . Thanks for sharing!
Oh Brad, what would we do without you. I was debating on buying Affinity Designer. After watching this video, I have been convinced to buy (you should totally be getting commission from Affinity). Thanks as usual dude.
I found Affinity Designer a bit overwhelming at the beginning. Affinity Photo made me love it 😊. A pro tip: there’s no need to download extra apps to uncompress zip files on iOS 12. Just open the zip preview of a file and save it back into files. You’re welcome. Steps with screenshots and some shameless self-promotion: peterpoliwoda.me/tutorial-how-to-unzip-files-on-ios-without-extra-apps/
I don't own an iPad. I have never heard of Affinity Designer. But my gosh you are amazing to watch, I don't know what it is but you grab my attention. Maybe... just maybe... I'd buy an iPad so this video is of some use to me XD
Amazing app!! I have it on the desktop as well, but honestly I’m sort of moving more towards using solely the iPad version just because the pencil makes things more enjoyable than using a mouse all the time. It does get a little annoying sometimes though when I have to try and select a mode multiple times when there a few close to each other, hopefully they can fix this in an update. Question for you Brad, I know how to use masking layers in the draw persona but how do I use masks in the pixel persona ? Thanks.
Hey Brad! I’ve been considering buying affinity designer for ipad and start learning vector design with it! Since I have just got the hang of how to use procreate, I think I will need your udemy course for vector design! 😄 I’ve read a lot that for professional designing you will have to vector your art work in the end so it is more compatible and resizeable! But the thing I worry about with Affinity designer is, that even if I can make vector designs in there, I wont be able to export those into .ai files! Is that a big problem for you when working with the app as a professional designer? Or do you get by with exporting your art work to psd, pdf or svg files? I am thinking to make illustrating a (part time-) job for me and if most clients end up demanding adobe files as an end result, I wouldnt see the point in learning to work with affinity designer at first. Do you know what I mean? 😅
The same is with Affinity Photo, at least the PC version. I feel so free, when i'm not forced to pay so much for Adobe's Creative Cloud. I just paid $50 once for an amazing photo editing software, that even outperforms Photoshop in some cases.
Adobe needs to wake up and close subscriptions because i like millions left adobe because of simply lightroom not being able to edit raw unless you pay 30€ or something..
Great video, tfs.......FYI-There’s an app called “any font” that provides gateway to download fonts on iPad and then they are a part of your system fonts not one app.
Love this. Thanks for the info. As a comic artist who currently uses a combination of Comic Draw and Procreate I’d love to someday hear if you have any thoughts about using affinity designer for a comic workflow.
THNX for the tipps Brad! The masking function seems totally awesome. Is there a workflow opportunity between Affinity Designer and After Effects? I would love to work on my iPad, but I have to make sure a motion designer can use my illustrations right away. Cheers!
Affinity designer and Procreate are killer! I got one of your Udemy courses for Procreate, and might get the one for Affinity. Edit: I remember a comment on one of your videos asking if you could make the “Brad’s Brushes” Brushpack available for the public. I actually would like this to happen. Edit 2: This app will take a while to get used to.
If you want a great app for files & documents overall which also is able to unzip, check out „Documents“ by Readdle! You can even download files from the integrated browser, organize files, connect cloud services, unzip files, and much more! With the additional app PDF Expert, you can mark up PDFs right from there as well.
Does this app have rulers? Is a really important part of my workflow in graphic design, and that might change my decision if I buy it or not. Thanks for the video, very useful tips for beginners!
I’m really hesitant to buy this. I use procreate and I love it a lot!!! But I think it would be best to get Affinity designer for my more cartoony style and to help me with my comics. And save procreate for my bigger works. Like full paintings and stuff.
Was this the iPad 2018? I'm on the fence and really want to start drawing in the digital realm... Is the iPad 2018 powerful enough to take advantage of these professional level apps?
Can i use Embed Documents on the ipad like on the desktop version of affinity designer? ( i need something like smartobjects in photoshop, but for the iPad pro)
9. Here you are actually using a CLIP. There is a mask function with black and white being the colors to show and hide as we’re all used to. But when you are using a top level shape to “mask” the shapes inside it, Affinity refers to this as a clip.
I thought it still is called mask? It's just, there's raster mask and clip mask and that's it. By default everything is a clip mask until you use "raster as mask"
The guys developing the Affinity suite are not too good at marketing. I've been using Adobe for the last 14 years, and I have NEVER heard about Affinity Designer or Photo. Dude, this apps are EXTREMELY good and are definitely a serious Competitor to Adobe we should all consider. And for $20 bucks??? Jeez, where the hell have you been all this time Affinity? I'm about to not look back... hear Adobe?
Hey Brad, can the regular iPad 2018 be used for art purposes or should one still go for the iPad pro 2017? Is there a drastic performance difference between the two?
I'm not Brad, but it does work! The Apple pencil works on both, though there is more parallax on the 6th gen iPad than the iPad Pro. It's not nearly as powerful, so you run out of layers in procreate often, etc. If you can spring it, go for the pro. it does make a significant difference. If you cant, you certainly can still make art.
Tim Christopher Hai Tim! I am going to buy affinity designer for my regular IPad 2018. But, can I make a large canvas? For example about 7000x7000 pixel with 200 dpi? Hope you can help me. Thank you
What I really dont like about affinity is that it seems to just reset everything I change every time I open the app. For example, I don’t want spell-check. But every time I open the app, it enabled spellcheck again. Also, I want to draw with pressure. But every time I open the app, it disables pressure again. I just don’t get it.
Adobe needs to wake up and close subscriptions because i like millions left adobe because of simply lightroom not being able to edit raw unless you pay 30€ or something..
When Brad posts a video about an app, it makes you want to use that app more!!
I agree...
Yes, he’d be deadly if he ever worked in Sales lol
After watching several videos I finally understood masking for what I needed 🔥
Great video.
Straight to the point. Thank you so much. That is definitely not the boring interface review like the previous 5 tutorials I have watched.
"You want to keep your napkin from blowing away? Put a finger down." I always love your videos, you make me laugh so loud hahaha

This video is awesome. Short, to the point, essential, easy to follow. Perfect job.

i completed this udemy course and learnt a lot as we started working on the go

I should talk to them about that ;)
Thank you Brad, great video!
Killed it again dude. Ace!
Jumping over from Procreate is overwhelming for me so this definitely helped. Thanks for the great list!

First of all, I love your work. I'm in the course of the desktop version of this application. Could you make a video of how to combat procrastination?
Just signed up for your Udemy course for the iPad. I Can’t wait to get started.
Cool. Just what I needed!!!
I have only spent a few minutes with the program so far.
BRAD!!!! We need more videos of using Vectornator. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😭😭
Please update for version 2
Great channel, informative and fun :)
Awesome! Thanks a lot Brad!

Is there an auto group function? Like a checkbox that while checked, groups all newly created objects?

I love Affinity Designer for iPad... !!!
Hello Brad. I want to ask if the ipad mini 1 or 2 is compatible to affinity designer and procreate. Thank you. Hope you notice 🙏🙏

Thank you, really helpful! And really curious, why 3 dislikes... why would someone dislike this video?
Thanks for the great tips for Affinity on iPad. You speak REALLY fast.
Is there a way to do one hand gestures ? Because I have a disability on my left and I can only use my right hand to work.
Is there anyway to create a grunge effect? It only seems to mask. Thank you!
This is like the Adobe illustrator killer...
Ado.... what? 😎

Hi Brad! Is it good if using Affinity Designer on iPad 2018?
Will they bring the tablet UI to the Windows version?
How to move tools into bottom like you?
Was this the iPad 2018? I'm on the fence and really want to start drawing in the digital realm... Is the iPad 2018 powerful enough to take advantage of these professional level apps?
Blake Livingston I use iPad Pro 10.5” since release .. this app works super nice 👌
Will you also do a Clipstudio ipad app udemy course? ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
why don't you recommend the dell canvas on your website
Lol at “but I want the pressure sensitivity” 😂 of course we do for that extra $100....😂😂😆
Can i use Embed Documents on the ipad like on the desktop version of affinity designer? ( i need something like smartobjects in photoshop, but for the iPad pro)

Why is it when you draw a line then let go it process it?
What if I don’t have fingers?
Hi sir,
Can I use inkscape from creating svg and PNG files to earning purpose?
Any restrictions there?
Plz reply me.....
Inkscape is an open source free app. So just go ahead and do anything you want as if you are using GIMP or Audacity.
affinity photo and designer for ipad both let you install fonts ... the install is the same and it has made my ipad pro my primary computing device
