What he did with the flower petals and the ashes in the water was so pure and beautiful 😭❤️
It was mesmerising and compared to emptying a grey plastic container into the wind it was a lot nicer. I imagined the ashes sitting on top of the petals. It was peaceful.
Mr. Cheah, the way you handled that young girl’s body was so gentle, delicate and respectful that it warmed my heart. You are a remarkable human being and I am so grateful that people like you exist in this world. Thank you so much for all you do sir.

As someone who works in the funeral home...I'm glad that people are seeing that it's not as morbid as it seems. Last year (2019) my brother passed due to complications of pancreatitis and he requested time before that i take care of his remains. From the morgue to the burial i was there. Now he rests with his fellow veterans at Abraham Lincoln National cemetery. Oorah and Semper Fi Sgt. Till Valhalla!!

This should have been longer! What a gentle soul, respecting the vessels he's tasked with. So beautiful to watch! Talking to the departed is showing respect for who they were. I'd love to see more of his practice.
Turkeyinthehay... hi congratulations on what I consider one if not the most important part of dealing with the deceased or dearly loved and departed!!!!, talking to them while carrying out what is commonly known as "LAST OFFICES' .It may sound rather macabre talking as you carefully and skillfully make the dearly departed look as far as possible alive and and serene for their family and friends to say what is a MASSIVE PSYCHOLOGICAL way of saying goodbye and also highly remember them for who they will Always be in your memory until your last moments when you finally fall asleep in blissful peace and surroundings ( hopefully) and you will also be treated with the utmost respect like your late family and friends on your journey to eternal peace and silence forever more

Crying does not make you less of a man it shows you have feelings and compassion for the ones you take care of and you take pride and loving care in what you do I think so many funeral homes and directors just seem cold and emotionless and putting the ashes on flower pedals like that is so beautiful and soothing. I was an undertaker/ funeral director and mortician for over two decades and for years did a coroner’s contract pick up the deceased from all kinds of places, and he is very right in saying to a degree we did desensitise ourselves to be able to do the best job for the deceased’s family and loved one’s.
As he has hit the nail on the head about children who pass away as there is always a deep sadness even from the hardened of people within the industry, as it’s pretty much the fact that an adult has been able to live a life and experience things, whereas a child is innocent and was robbed of that life that we take for granted.
Yes it does take strength and courage to work in the industry especially when dealing with grieving families and loved one’s, however it hits us very hard when it becomes our own family or friends who die, and then everyone is relying on you to help because to them you are the family funeral person who they trust, and it’s very emotional for us as yes whilst working in the industry I lost a son and close friends as well as others relatives, and as conditioned as much as I was behind closed doors it broke me, however became strong while in front of everyone else to help them get through it!
As here is a true story as I was running a funeral for a 4 year old little girl who had passed away from cancer, now I had met her family before and picked her up from her home after she passed and carried her out in my arms and then prepared her at the mortuary making her presentable for her parents and family to say a proper good by to this beautiful child, and the whole time I was upset inside because she reminded me of my children and grandchildren who I am luck to have, anyway I also arranged the funeral as on the day of the funeral we were having a beautiful service for this beautiful child and when her photo presentation was being shown in the church upon the screen, as I watched her short life story unfold, it broke me and I made the excuse to my staff that I needed to get paperwork from the hearse, but the real reason was when I got outside I busted out in tears and broke down, until I once again composed myself to enable me to look after the family and this precious little girl, which I did right through to the end.
So I believe that if you are not compassionate or don’t have any human emotion this definitely is not the right industry to be in as you honestly need an enormous amount of decency and respect towards others of different religious beliefs cultures and nationalities, but most of all to have the strength to hold your feelings and beliefs in to yourself and preform the job of take care of a deceased person, which as I thought my new staff, is taking care of the most precious this this persons loved one’s own as they cannot be replaced like other items house or car, as a human being to a family grieving is the most important thing in the world to them!
And it’s up to us funeral and mortuary people to look after the deceased with the upmost care and respect as a funeral works two ways, it’s to farewell the deceased and the other is for the living left behind to mourn, and it will be the who will judge us ?
So I have real admiration for people like this gentleman in the clip as his passion is what makes and very trustworthy person in a very taboo type industry.

I wish there were more and new morticians like you. Funeral homes have become big business so large companies bought most family funeral homes and solicit others to sell. People don't realize the care is gone until it's too late.
Our town undertaker was the second generation in his family business and a wonderful caring man to the living and deceased. When we lost him it was as if every family in town lost a loved one. His son was the third and very well known so everyone expected him to be the next but that wasn't what he wanted to do. He silently sold to a big company that kept his family's name and moved away. Those who knew don't agree and never go to them.
There was another funeral home in town bute the undertaker's reputation was tainted due to alcohol abuse prior to his death. The family name was respected so his son reopened the funeral home.
When my brother took his own life the police suggested them. Hours after I thought his body was taken, the friends who helped put him in the hearse came to my home and were very nervous because the undertaker was drunk. He hoped I had beer and wanted to buy some to have a party . My brother was a tormented alcoholic who killed himself so there was no alcohol. Friends knew his body was in front of my house for hours and feared I'd try to go to him.
The next morning he called and asked my daughter, "What's your mother want done with this body?" He didn't care to try to view him and was only concerned about payment. I demanded to see and kiss my brother and couldn't imagine why we walked outside on a warm day until he opened the back of the hearse and helped me crawl in. It was as if he was going to dump his body anywhere if payment was a problem.
I laid next to him, he had white powder all over him but looked more peaceful than he had in years. He hung for two days so I'm sure you know what I'm referring to but with a little work, he could have been viewed.
We had Saturday afternoon visiting hours with a closed casket and a church dinner. A few days later, my daughter, our Minister and I attended a private burial. They forgot to put the pillow from his daughter in so they opened his casket and threw it in on his body that was still dressed only in the jeans he hung in though they had a clean suit, undergarments and shoes for ten days. They were rolled up along side his feet that had no shoes or socks on them. I wanted to make him go back and dress him but didn't want my daughter to know nor cause a scene on my family plot. It bothers me terribly that that's how my brother, my parent's son and niece's Father is laid to rest.
Had he not forgot that pillow then I'd never know so I wonder what he did or did not do that other families don't know. That's the way our loved one's bodies are treated by people who are morticians only to earn a living. That one passed away soon after due to alchohol abuse.
Our town was blessed to have a young man who worked with and has the same ethics as the original Funeral Director to open his own funeral home. He cares more about people than money and accepts what families can or will be able to pay. There's mutual respect so families do not intentionally fail to pay.
He's a threat to the big company so they tried to destroy him after he helped families whose loved ones paid their funeral expenses in advance and an insurance company stole from. What he did was very kind yet illegal and someone who knew the laws reported him. He was fined and the town had no reasonablly priced and caring Funeral Home to turn to for approx a year.
Most people had a funeral service at a church or cemetary and cremation to omit the big company and that's continued but includes the funeral home. I can't remember the last time I saw a line of cars going from the funeral home to a cemetary.
I and many others loved and respected our town mortician who took the best care of our loved one's bodies and helped make our loss easier. From what you wrote I am sure people have the same love and respect for you. God bless you.

This man has a true calling in the funeral business. His care and compassion is moving. I can only imagine how many undertakers are not respectfully to the dead as he is.

Shy Ann, I am so sorry that we in the United States don’t treat the bodies of those who have passed away as well as you think we should. Prior to my becoming a geriatric nurse, I was a nurses aide on the pediatric ward. I have cared for the bodies of more children than I care to count, I also cared for the bodies of infants who were born much too early to live or were born with physical abnormalities that were incompatible with life. I would sing songs to them as I gently washed them (the policy for post mortem cares was to wash them and wrap them in a white plastic shroud before taking them to the morgue) I would wash them but I would also use baby powder and lotion on them, comb their hair if they had even the smallest amount, I would dress them in a fresh clean diaper, undershirt and a sleeper and wrap them in a bay blanket then I would put the shroud then another baby blanket over that. I kept a supply of small teddy bears in my locker just for these special angels and I would place one under a little arm. I am not God so I cannot say when the soul leaves the body and if by any chance it was there while doing my cares, I wanted them to know how loved they were. I never got caught sending them but many times the funeral director would call about the Teddy because they would check with the family thinking that the parents had requested the teddy be sent with the baby. Young or old I treated the deceased with much love, respect and dignity as humanly possible. A simple thing really, just treat them as you would want your loved ones treated.
Speak for yourself sweetheart, Some Of us go to great lengths.. When I worked in the death care industry, I took pride & appreciation into my work. The countless hours alone iv set features. Just because the families closure is what’s most important to me & to my funeral directors. The FH I worked for, They were stand up, honest people.
While I am on both sides, I must say my Grandmother's wake & funeral costed my family over $20,000. My grandmother's name is Constance Rose Brewer. She passed away Dec 2014 in Massachusetts. Her casket alone was $4,000. Her wake & funeral I wasn't given an exact price, but i was told it was well into the double digit thousands, & about the same price as buying a brand new car off the lot. The cost of wakes & funerals are insane & in my opinion shouldn't in total cost the same amount or more than putting a down payment on buying a brand new car or house. It saddens me to know it costs way more to bury or cremate a person than it does keeping them alive for months in the hospital.

As a first responder, i relate to this. 8 years in this field, calls still get to me. I still cry. But i love what I do. Ive been told before to leave this field because I have outward emotions, but I believe everyone should. Because if its your final moments, wouldnt you wish for someone compassionate yet confident to help you with your fears?

Some days I do miss being an undertaker.. It’s hard for some to understand the emotion that comes over you when you not only hear about your good work but when all the family does is say “Thank you” it just drives you more & more. It’s a kinda job that requires ALOT from you across the board. The second you start to take the job home with you is when you will struggle to maintain. My hats off to this guy, It truly takes a special, Gentle & kind breed to do be in that profession.

I need to let go of my past hurts that are keeping me from sleeping. After seeing this and listening to your words I feel hope. Maybe someday I too will find my way to peace and the grace of sleep. I think a person who cares about people all their life and dies alone,means nobody is there to care for him and that is so sad.

This has got to be one of the sweetest kindest purest man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting ( well seeing on this documentary). He is a gentle angel and the way he sent the ashes and petals out to sea was the most tasteful , peaceful , beautiful experience I've been lucky enough to witness. May his soul be blessed and his life fondly forever treasured and remembered .

I was a geriatric nurse for my entire career and loved caring for that special population. I always felt that it was a great honor to care for these special people and to be able to not only be with the residents during their last minutes, hours, days or even weeks of live. I enjoyed helping the families though this tough time also. People would be thankful that I was there to help their loved one and them but I would thank the family for giving me the honor to care for their loved one. I can’t recall one death that came under my care that I didn’t weep with the family. After 10 years of retirement I will see a family member of a resident whose death I had attended out in public and am so surprised that they remember me as the nurse who cared for their family member on that day. More often than that not they will thank me for my loving care and tell me that I made that day a little better for them knowing that I was that nurse. Such a great honor.

Janet Yovonne Stuckey I’m guessing you’ve never visited a hospital old forks home. Orphanage home. There’s a lot of people putting others first.
Try hitchhiking across the country or cycling. You will met slot of people that put others first. I’ve stayed at complete strangers houses. Met them in town they ask what I’m doing you can stay at our house. Warm showers is a great example. Last summer I came into a small town tgat was having a concert festival. Some famous musicians. I man pulls over after seeing me cycling with a loaded touring bike. He says they are leaving for the weekend. The small town was gonna triple in pollution because of tge rock concert. He says I can camp in their backyard an use their kitchen/bathroom facilities. While the are gone. Yip the world is full of nice people your just hanging around the wrong ones.
While cycling through Quebec I ask I lady if she knows a place to camp. She says I can sleep at their house. Slept in spare bedroom. Met another lady she introduced herself has tge crazy lady from church/town. I could stay at their house. Come into a town in Quebec there’s a homemade sign on the curb cyclist gratitude camping.

We need people like Mr. Cheah in Australia. Our funeral businesses are just businesses, there to make big money, in an unregulated industry. Many undertakers take advantage of the grieving loved ones, and charge outrageous and dishonest charges. Some services they charge for, are not done at all.

He talks to them, but I can hear the dead talk to me, even as a young child. It use to bother me, but now I know it's a gift❤️
It's not the dead. It's demons. Those are familiar demons that knew that person very well and followed them during their lifetime. You need deliverance from Jesus for this thing. Turn to Him and He will help you.
