    Nice comparison, I had these, the bav sounds, the oem hifi subs, the focals and rockfords and the SWS blew all of them away. Btw +6DB on an SPL meter is double the SPL so these are significantly louder. Also, when testing its best to have the microphone at ear level for a realistic comparison. I had all the 8inch bmw options and compared them then cut them all in half. Basically all but the SWS are the same technology. What makes the SWS legendary in addition to the standard stuff like a neo magnet and aluminum heatsink/dustcap, is that theres several patents in use. One of which allows the motor to go up into the cone for much more excursion. They also have the widest surround out of ANY bmw 8 inch option. So more area and more excursion means much more SPL, thats basic physics. Basically all the other 8 inch options are just fancy packaging and marketing. The SWS is the only one that actually has real innovation thanks to it's patents. Regarding the wiring, you can actually depin the oem connector and just get a regular female spade and run a wire to the SWS without splicing or cutting the oem harness.

      Also always break in subs before comparing. The SWS likes a 40hz breakin at a moderate gain to break in the spider.

      +6db is not double the spl. 10db is double. 3db is noticeable. Earthquake sws would be the best option if it didn't break from 150 watts. All the other aftermarket options can handle close to 300 watts and people never report them breaking unlike the sws

    Have these in a few of my cars. Definitely hit a lot harder than any factory options and at half the price of bavsound they’re by far the best option

    For anyone interested in the nerdy details, I work as an audio engineer. Cheap subs usually don't put out the fundamental bass frequency, they put out harmonics to trick your ears into perceiving more bass and loudness than they're physically capable of and use less power, for example playing 120hz instead of a deep 60hz. phones, laptops, portable speakers and cheap home stereos do this too. good subs will give you the true fundamentals which feel a lot more full but require a lot more power which is what you're experiencing. also don't trust the meter, as you won't be able to get an accurate delta. meters are usually a-weighted which means they have an eq curve that actually ignore the majority of the bass, plus the microphones in phones aren't that great either. Our ears also behave in a strange way that perceives louder as better, but even if it's quieter, as long as it's deeper that's a win. With a more powerful amp it will sound amazing. There's no better feeling than the feeling of getting repeatedly kicked in the back of the head by mega bass, but it comes at the price of Tinnitus lol

      Ive heard these on an aftermarket sub. The difference is pretty big. Hitting those deep notes definitly brings the music to life.

    I tried to run a flat panel sub recently in my 135 and it was just depressing. Ruining an active 12” now and does the job way too well but can be turned down with its own volume knob in the cabin. Factory enclosures just seem to be better so pretty good to reuse with better hardware.

    EX series were offered with 3 trims of sound. stereo 2ohm subs hi fi 2ohm subs and top hi fi 4ohm subs. 2 ohms should be louder more punch 4 ohms cleaner sound less loud.

    Using poweramp eq, bringing everything down but 31hz, max that, preamp to +5 and bring everything else up slowly to your liking will still make the stock subs sound better the then the earthquake. I have both and doing this still makes the earthquakes much better but it's so much better. I'm getting 108db with stock amp and it's down in the 36hz

    I have these in my M240i. I got them on Amazon for $230 for both with the install gaskets. They worked alright on the stock amp. But I upgraded to a Skar Audio 5 channel amp and they sound 100% better. About $500 including wiring adapters and all. Going to change out the speakers to Rockford Fosgates T142 and they should bolt up to the factory holes.

    If you download Spotify you can adjust the eq settings in the app and it will amp up the frequency’s and your be able to gain more output from the cars amp, I did this in my mates m3 competition and he doesn’t have Harmon kardon but the stereo under that and he was blown away by how much better using Spotify and adjusting the audio settings in the app made to his cars stereo

      The mfactory diff i had in my 335i, was removed in July when i did the DCT conversion. However it was still working fine. Probably way too aggressive for the street.

    • @qx4n9e1xp
      @qx4n9e1xp 3 года назад

      @@ZeroTo60Tube Way too aggressive? What would make an lsd or a specific one too aggressive? Don't LSDs improve grip & general driving saftey all around? (By saftey, i mean better car control) Or does it increase nvh?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 года назад

      @@qx4n9e1xp my mfactory was a clutched LSD. A real LSD that you would use for a race car. Most street cars have a torsion style. Never actually gives a full lock. When you have a clutched LSD the wheels will slip, then lock. And you feel and notice the lock in some situations. Especially in the wet. Vibrates through the whole car. On a track with heat and flat out driving they are great, nice and smooth. But plodding around the shops, as they are set up for flat out full load, you get that harsh lock on the street. It was worse than a locked diff tbh.

    • @qx4n9e1xp

      @@ZeroTo60Tube Ok thanks! I did brief research and also found that "helical" lsds are preferred over clutch for non-race applications. Also that clutched lsds are slightly higher maintenance.

    It's too bad YT always has to run a check for every single song that was ever written and recorded by someone. I'm a singer songwriter and I run my own studio as well and I can understand copyright and money for the artists. However in so many cases of older songs or even new ones etc I think it would do the artist much more good to have their old hit or a song that wasn't that big to begin with to get the exposure to a whole new audience. Instead of stopping the playing of it over a few dollars they might get but now won't because the YT creator can't afford to pay all those fee's so never uses it because of the copyright costs. But if they could use it at no cost on a simple video from an average creator I think often it could generate new traffic to a great song and artist that is not getting the attention they may deserve or want again. IMHO.

      a 8 Ohm impedance speaker will measure around 6 Ohm DC resistance
      a 4 Ohm impedance speaker will measure around 3 Ohm DC resistance
      a 2 Ohm impedance speaker should measure somewhere between 1 and 1,5 ohm
