Wim teaches bjj as a series of concepts (off-balancing, structures, wedges) rather than a sequence of moves (place your foot here, then grip here, etc). It's no surprise his team (Brasa Leuven) is killing it at all the competitions! Really high level. Awesome to see him on bjj fanatics with Bernardo
@@WimDeputterBJJ Hi Wim. I'm a french brand new white belt, and I've just discovered your "Mirroring Principle" (along with Priit "Defensive BJJ" system which I believe go along together). Now, does such principle work on people who are bigger than us (I'm only 1m69 and weigh 74kg) ? Indeed, most of my partners are very tall, strong, and heavy compared to me.
Whoa someone I met before on this channel, instantly had to watch! Wim is a great person and instructor and Bernardo was geeking out as if there wasn't a camera (instantly trying how it works against his favorite over-under passing haha). Good stuff!
I needed something like this, thank you. In mma, how would you deal with stikes from the free cross face arm? Especially in situations where your arm is between your opponent's legs. Thanks again.
When they want to strike you with the free arm, they need to bring their weight forward (off your hip). This makes it easier for you to bridge. When you bridge, you bring your upper shoulder towards your shin. You can get mildly hit, but protect your shin with the shoulder and you should be ok. Especially with mma-gloves. With strikes you have to be more precise and react faster.
@@WimDeputterBJJ thanks for the reply. It sounds like your addressing kesa getame and if you are can you address conventional side control when you have the oil check hand up.
Sorry for the late reply. I missed your question. In mma I would do exactly the same as in this video. As long as you keep the weight from your opponent away from the center (so he has to post), he can't effectively strike you. The main difference between bjj and mma, is that with strikes you can't take a break in the middle. You have to keep your opponent constantly on his toes by switching sides (action-reaction). In mma you have to be more proactive. I hope that answers your question 😊
@@WimDeputterBJJ finally! I'm in the process of studying your instructional. Very unique piece of work and deffinetly ahead of its time! You teach not only moves but movement, and make timing in grappling understandable! Hopefully I will visit your gym when I'm on vacation :-)
@@alibashari8430 Thank you Ali 😊 Would you mind leaving a small review on the BJJ Fanatics website? Thanks a lot! If you have any questions about things on the DVD, just ask.
