I am struggling to finish it. This screenplay style of a chapter every 3 pages and the dicsussions happening between Crichton's wife and Hollywood to make it a movie, makes me think it was planned from the moment she met Patterson. I haven't read a book since I finished The 3 boddy Problem and couldn't go through the other 2 from the trilogy because It felt so... poorly written. I liked the Martian for being very grounded on science, an easy before bed read. I expected Eruption to give me the same feeling I had reading Jurassic Park when I was a teen, poor choice. Do you recommend something more mature e complex for someone who used to devour books but now carefully chooses not to waste time and ends up not picking up anything?
I'm like you. I'm PICKY now. I LOVED the following: "A Thousand Splendid Suns", "The Women", I even enjoyed "Then She Was Gone"...Loved "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek", "The Forest of Lost Stars", and "The Book of Lost Names".
Have you ever read "Eaters of the Dead" by Crichton (also called 13th Warrior)...OMG! I read it ALL NIGHT...couldn't put it down. The novel is hard to find, and I have a copy which I'll NEVER give up! Great read!
Patterson frequently "farms out" his books to ghost writers and others. This seems to be written by a committee of 3rd graders and that's INSULTING to 3rd graders (I taught 3rd grade)!!!!!
Thanks for the reply, I am now interested on the Eaters of the Dead you mentioned, reminded me of Bernard Cornwell. And I my try The Sphere too, hoping is different from the movie.
LOTS of one star reviews on Goodreads. My opinion stands. This is one of the WORST books I've ever read. SHAME on the publisher for even putting Crichton's name on this. This book would be going out into my compost pile, but I don't want to INSULT the single celled organisms there!!! Don't waste your time or money on it.

I SHOULD throw it out in my compost pile, but that would be INSULTING to the one-celled organisms out in the pile!!!!!

James Patterson is NOT "the world's greatest storyteller"!!!!! NO WAY!
This was a "DNF" (Did Not Finish) for me. I couldn't STAND IT!
