I know I was thinking the same thing, they just sound like they could fit in anywhere. Guess that’s why ppl say they set the standard for what cymbals should sound like the traditional A line that is.
Amen... I've got Paiste's Signatures I used for my primo, studio "only" applications. But, for everything else, those A's work, and sound amazing. And, I can buy 3 A's for every one Paiste. Beautiful sound, and great value. And, these days, they are a LOT more consistent (which used to be a huge problem with Zildjian at one point).
Honestly the weakest sounding to me. There's just no life to them. But that's something I've found to be true of pretty much every zildjian I've ever tried. Those K Customs sounded decent though.
The Zildjians (both sets) and the Paiste Dark Crisp sound best, but ...those Wuhan's sounded nice as well! I too used to play K/Z 13's back in the day, ...very nice!
I love those Meinl Serpent hats. They have a shaker-like quality to them. Also love the g-maple snare, I have one and it's one of my favorite snares ever!
They all sounding pretty good. But my favourites are the Zildjian k custom hybrid (number 2) and the Paiste dark crisp (number one). Many greetings from Germany !!!
Continue to be impressed by Wuhan's recent products. Those sounded really nice. The Paiste Signature Darks were interesting too - very musical when played open. Generally I do not love 13s very much (I do have a set of Sabian Artisans that I found for a great price, and they are nice), but this was a great video. Thanks, as always, DCOP!!
I play Sabians but have a few Wuhan effects cymbals (splashes and chinas) and pray that they don't crack because they sound amazing and form an integral part of my drum sound.
I love the sound of their crashes. They have a nice trashiness to them and they explode when you hit them. Big fan. The fact they’re very affordable is a big bonus
u guys have the best vids. i can’t get into any of these tho, the snare seriously overpowers the hats, and makes me not want 13”’s. if i had to rank: 1) zildjian new beat, 2) wuhan western, 3) paiste signature dark 4) sabian paragon
Not even a drummer here but I have to say - best intro ever! Also I can see why the New Beats are so popular - they're a key part of so many great rock songs, and what a lot of us (non-drummers) think of as a reference "hi-hat sound".
Awesome intro! Keep drumming! 😂 My first pair of 13 Hi-Hats were Zildjian K 13's. I saw Gregg Bissonette playing them and loved them. Enjoyed them for years. Now mostly 14 and 15's. Groove on! 🤘🥁🤘DC
Cool compilation! I have the Meinl Serpents. They are cool, but since they are reversible by design, it would have been nice to hear the other “shiny-side” as top cymbal. That’s how I have them set up.
We considered it, but the brilliant cymbal is a touch heavier, which we preferred on the bottom. Plus the Fast hats also had a brilliant top, so we wanted to show a difference in sound. But they sound great the other way, too!
Being a jazz drummer I wish you would have also played the swing pattern on the hi hats. That would have been helpful for making a choice. For the time being, I would say that the Sabians are probably the best suited for jazz.
Pastie dark crisp really stood out to me. Although i like 15" hats. But it's good to have BOTH. Best of both worlds.. especially if your a cover drummer. Or versatile player.
They all sound pretty good, and different! The Zildjian "New Beats" is like your old reliable hi hat that doesn't disappoint. I liked them all, but my top-3 are... 1. Paiste Signature Dark Crisp 2. Zildjian K Custom Hybrids 3. Sabian Paragon
The Sabian Paragon hats were very boring, to me. The Wuhan's knocked me out and I loved the Zildjians. And that's unusual for me because usually I'm loving both the Paiste and Meinl's above any others. Learn something new every day! Thanks, Adam Frost! Keep it cool and quirky.
Good comparison but I should add that while all hi-hats are technically reversible, the Serpent hats are *designed* to be reversible with the "traditional" setup being the heaver brilliant cymbal on top. Far too late to add this to the video, but hopefully this doesn't go unnoticed by the viewers. Might be worth adding some lower-thirds.
For me... The zildjians excel over nearly all of the others. Thought that the meinls sound decent too, i suppose tastes and the sound for application is another point in itself. Traditionally though, for an all rounder to make work with nearly all, the zildjians, are for me at least, the best! Some cool beats and great playing as usual. Thank you!
Epic intro!! :) I liked the Wuhan, Istanbul traditional and Sabian Paragon the best, but I'm still not convinced about the 13" size, sorry. They sound so tiny and high when played open. Still prefer my 14" K Zildjians :)
Love these videos, great vibes and great comparisons. A real education. Thanks guys 👍🥁. Liked all of these hi hats, but particularly the Paiste Crisp, sweet 😀👏
I'm partial to 13" hi-hats...I used to own 13" K/Z and liked them lots but then, tried the Paragon's and fell in love with those. The 2002 Sound Edge were also part of my cymbals as well as the Signature Dark Crisps. For some reason, never fell in love with the Zildjian New Beats, but hey, sound's subjective, right ? In this video, I was really impressed with the Wuhan hats, although I have played their Chinas, I question their hi-hat's durability. Thanks for the video, extremely entertaining and helpful as always...
That intro just cracks me up, killer! Anyways after 25 years plus playing 14 inch hats I decided to change and I wanted to get a bit more Stewart Copeland's sound the heavy 602 not the new signature 12s however his hats are way out of my price range but I hit jackpot with a pair of 13 UFIP Zanki hats they are great!
Every time you guys do a cymbal comparison video I always like the Paiste signature the best. So I guess that means it's time to start saving my penny's cause I'm looking to add/change my array that I have now
I had over a hundred Paiste Cymbals at one point. After I trimmed the herd, my set up was mostly Signatures. I used to teach at a shop from 1997 to 2007, and in 1999 I fell asleep one Sunday afternoon, on the couch. I had a dream of the sound of the Fast Crashes. When I went to work that Tuesday I bought a 16" and 17" Signature Fast Crash, and a pair of 13" Signature Dark Crisp Hi Hats. I still have them too.
Paiste Signature are wonderful. I have them on an album or 2 and they sound shimmering, clean and musical- up against a wall of metal, Fuzz Distortion.
When you said Wuhan hi hats, I raised an eyebrow, but I was really surprised how good they sounded. Also, I'm kinda surprised you didn't feature the best 13's I've ever heard (and am about to buy)... Dream Bliss 13" hats. They are amazingly sandy without being to dry/dark and have a surprisingly low sound for 13's. Thanks for this vid 👍
All sounds great. But i prefer a high crispy and definition sound. I miss the HH Sabian Fusion Hat. But here, i prefer both Zildjian Hats. Espacially the K Hybrid.
I absolutely adore the South Park type intros! IMO, you ensure not only informative videos about products but you should ensure those of us drummers that need stuff, use you.
Excellent intro. I laughed out loud! 😂 I use a matched set of 1974 2002 SE 15" hats. The 13" 2002's sound excellent here for MY needs. Low to medium volume classic rock. Might try a pair in my set as secondary hats
I'm still using my K/Z Zildjians from 30 years ago. They still sound great and not a single crack or chip on them even after I once loaned them out to a punk rock gig. Okay, I still use them mostly because I'm broke ass but still..
I love these hi-hats in the démo: Meinl Byzance Fast Hi Hat Cymbals Brilliant 13 Wuhan western style Hi hat 13 Istanbul Agop Traditional Ligh Hi Hat Cymbals 13" I use a Sabian Evolution hi-hat 13 ans it’s mu favorite Hi hat. Thank for this video 🙏👍
I have a 13 in set of New Beat, K/Z, and K. All around, I like the New Beat best. I also really like the Quick Beat and Mastersound A. In this video though, I like the K hybrid, and the Paiste Dark Crisp best.
Zildjian K Custom Hybrid hats and Paiste Signature Dark hats were my favs. Istanbul Xist Dry Dark were kind of cool. Least favorite: Sabian and the Meinl.
Hearing the head to heads you can really tell how Neil Peart took the inspiration from his 13" New Beats to design the Paragon series, but they do have an extra something. A friend of mine once had the 13" A Custom Mastersounds. Wish I'd made him an offer for those.
These Wuhans are by far the best cymbals I have played. It is pure Insanity how cheap these are for how amazing they sound. B20 alloy at this price is unheard of. It's not just that though. These things are handmade so they have these tiny little imperfections in them, the lathing is shallow and they are actually quite beautiful too. I think it's because most drummers would laugh at you if they see that Wuhan logo on there. When I say is, keep laughing. I'll just be over here, playing things that sound like Zildjian K's for less than a third of the price. Absolutely amazing cymbals.
Solid list! The only oversight imo is no Sabian 13" Fierce Hats! Of these, I'm partial to the meinl serpents, the paragon and the Istanbul xist dry dark
2:07 Zildjian K Custom Hybrid
2:32 Zildjian New Beat
2:56 Paiste Signature Dark Crisp
3:21 Paiste 2002 Sound Edge

4:10 Meinl Byzance Serpents
4:35 Wuhan Western Style
5:00 Istanbul Agop Xist Dry Dark
5:25 Istanbul Agop Traditional Light
5:50 Sabian Paragon
Don't love 13s but I'll give the video a like just for that intro. You boys. Lol
Nothing beats the New-Beat as the best overall and more flexible. It's incredible how such an old design is still so modern
Honestly the weakest sounding to me. There's just no life to them. But that's something I've found to be true of pretty much every zildjian I've ever tried.
Those K Customs sounded decent though.
Nope, the Meinl extramdry is wayyyy better
The new beats have been redesigned a few times. If you shop used new beats, there are some pretty big differences between the vintages.
1. Signature Paiste. hmmm, Wohan Western. Neil's Paragon. and Byzance Serpernts of course
Those paiste dark crisps sound pretty rad. So do the Zildjian hybrid ks.
i was literally just watching your top 10 14” hats and was wondering if u had a video on 13” hats :D keep up the fantastic work!
The Zildjians (both sets) and the Paiste Dark Crisp sound best, but ...those Wuhan's sounded nice as well! I too used to play K/Z 13's back in the day, ...very nice!
Drum Center boys come through again with stellar content.
Dark Crisp are my favs. I love the K hybrids too!
Two very strong choices!
I love those Meinl Serpent hats. They have a shaker-like quality to them. Also love the g-maple snare, I have one and it's one of my favorite snares ever!
Yeah they're awesome. Probably wouldn't be my standard hats but would love to have them around when I want that sound.
They all sounding pretty good. But my favourites are the Zildjian k custom hybrid (number 2) and the Paiste dark crisp (number one).
Many greetings from Germany !!!
I miss my good times touring in Deutschland in the 1990s and hope everyone is staying safe over there
Continue to be impressed by Wuhan's recent products. Those sounded really nice. The Paiste Signature Darks were interesting too - very musical when played open. Generally I do not love 13s very much (I do have a set of Sabian Artisans that I found for a great price, and they are nice), but this was a great video. Thanks, as always, DCOP!!

I love the sound of their crashes. They have a nice trashiness to them and they explode when you hit them. Big fan. The fact they’re very affordable is a big bonus
Wuhan sounded the best to me. Right now I'm using 13" A customs that sound great. Good work.
Nice to see 13" hats getting some love! My go-to hats are a set of 13" Paiste Twentys.
Can't beat the Paste 2002 and Signature, none better, PERIOD!!
u guys have the best vids. i can’t get into any of these tho, the snare seriously overpowers the hats, and makes me not want 13”’s. if i had to rank:
1) zildjian new beat,
2) wuhan western,
3) paiste signature dark
4) sabian paragon
How the F did you know I was coming on the channel today to check out 13” hi hats!? Love it.
Just like Santa, we always know....
That Tama slp g maple snare sounds incredible
probably the best sounding, mid-range price snare from Tama.
may be a controversial opinion but i’m absolutely in love with the sound of the istanbul dark drys.
Agreed. So unique!
Not even a drummer here but I have to say - best intro ever! Also I can see why the New Beats are so popular - they're a key part of so many great rock songs, and what a lot of us (non-drummers) think of as a reference "hi-hat sound".
Yes!!!!! 13” hats are 🔥🔥🔥
After playing 15” Hihats for a while now 14” Hihats seem a bit small. And yes I can confirm that 13” SLP G-Maple is a SWEET snare.
The best at this. That’s what you are. Thanks as always guys! 👍
Awesome intro! Keep drumming! 😂 My first pair of 13 Hi-Hats were Zildjian K 13's. I saw Gregg Bissonette playing them and loved them. Enjoyed them for years. Now mostly 14 and 15's. Groove on! 🤘🥁🤘DC
The intro alone was enough to make me click the like button (Y)
Cool compilation! I have the Meinl Serpents. They are cool, but since they are reversible by design, it would have been nice to hear the other “shiny-side” as top cymbal. That’s how I have them set up.
We considered it, but the brilliant cymbal is a touch heavier, which we preferred on the bottom. Plus the Fast hats also had a brilliant top, so we wanted to show a difference in sound. But they sound great the other way, too!
Definitely agree. Would have been a good idea to showcase both configurations here. I have the 14's and the difference is really noticeable.
The paiste and the paragon's win for me. But the big winner is that snare! God damn that's a beautiful sounding drum!
Being a jazz drummer I wish you would have also played the swing pattern on the hi hats. That would have been helpful for making a choice. For the time being, I would say that the Sabians are probably the best suited for jazz.
I am going to say that the Paiste Dark Crisp is my favorite of the bunch. I really liked the Sabian Paragons as well.
Can't argue with any of these!
I'm partial to the khybrid,I own a pair of them.i also own a pair of zildjian A mastersound, there wonderful as well.
Same here. I have a pair of "13 heavy Paiste sig and a "14 sig dark crisp. K Hybrid does is for me
I normally am not a fan of the Zildjian sound. But man those first hats, the K Hybrid I think, sounded best to my ears.
Paiste 2002 Sound Edge, Zildjian A New Beats & then the Sabian Paragon

Some cool beats and great playing as usual. Thank you!
My top 3 are: Paiste Dark Crips, Paiste 2002 Sound Edge, Byzance Fast
I have the dark crisp paiste in this size and I think they sound as close to perfection as you can get.
Thank you for posting these. An amazing job!
Thanks for watching!
Loved your intro ! 😅 Hit liked before product comparison started.
I’m shopping for some 13’s and really appreciate this presentation.
Good work 👍
The 1st. Musical and crisp with good definition. Like it very much. 😊👍
Good choice!
I have that Tama SLP G-maple snare, and it's absolutely amazing
Hey! It's nice to see Adam again. He's so quirky.
Thanks. Nice to be seen.
Hahahaha that Intro! :D
I Like the Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Hi Hat Cymbals 13.25" and the Wuhan Hi Hat Cymbals 13" too!
Paiste 2002 had such a wonderful sound. I would give that one The blue ribbon in this competition.
Never heard New Beats sound that good.
The intro contained just the right amount of extreme cheesiness to set the tone for the serious product comparison showcase.
Zildjian new beats sound the best to me. I own a 14” set of new beats and they’re the most versatile hi hats.
I have a set of 13 in Sabian Evolution hats. I love em.
Been Thinking about buying the dark crisp but now i'm concidering 2002 as well
That intro just cracks me up, killer!
If I had to pick my favourite in the video was the first K hybrid, cool. I haven't seen that before.
Every time you guys do a cymbal comparison video I always like the Paiste signature the best. So I guess that means it's time to start saving my penny's cause I'm looking to add/change my array that I have now
It’s funny, our Paiste rep always says that’s what will happen. I guess he is on to something…

@fartpoobox ohyeah because when I think Wuhan, I think China cymbals only. Never knew they made hats
I subscribed because of the intro song😂 the fast Byzance hats are amazing
Dark crisp and New beat. Exquisite sizzle in both pairs. Excellent products.
Like that the 13" G maple snare
the video is great, but the intro is out of this world. Love you guys
Sabian Paragon was a big surprise to me, I never heard those ones and they sound awesome!
Yep they all sound good. I think if I were to pick just one it'd be the Istanbul dry darks
Perfect song because 13s are the best!
Played lot of hats over the years. I just love Zlidjian 13" New Beats.
Zildjian K are the best I thing but I am impressed by Istanbul and Paiste they sound so nice.
Excellent intro. I laughed out loud! 😂 I use a matched set of 1974 2002 SE 15" hats. The 13" 2002's sound excellent here for MY needs. Low to medium volume classic rock. Might try a pair in my set as secondary hats
I have some Sabian AA Fusions from the 90’s and keep coming back to them…
Istanbul Xist dark dry sound lovely. Can imagine they’ll sit nice in the mix live.
Thanks for this video! I find both Zildjian ones kick ass :D
pls add dream cymbals to your sortiment. those cymbals are better than everything you have heard or seen
i own the serpents hats. fantastic sound
1:25 13 - I'm sensing a theme here!!!
I'm still using my K/Z Zildjians from 30 years ago. They still sound great and not a single crack or chip on them even after I once loaned them out to a punk rock gig.
Okay, I still use them mostly because I'm broke ass but still..
Honesty.... haha!
The Meinl 13" Dark hats had to be here as well. Best hats I ever owned...
K/Z is the best
PREACH
The Zildjian hybirds are so clean bright and crisp. Just the sound I'm looking for
MY SOUND IS 13 INCH HI HATS !!!!!!! YESSIR
Paiste Signature 13" Heavy hats are great but discontinued. Former Stewart Copeland hats.
I love these hi-hats in the démo:
Meinl Byzance Fast Hi Hat Cymbals Brilliant 13
Wuhan western style Hi hat 13
Istanbul Agop Traditional Ligh Hi Hat Cymbals 13"
I use a Sabian Evolution hi-hat 13 ans it’s mu favorite Hi hat.
Thank for this video 🙏👍
Surprising for me since I am a Paiste guy, but the Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Hi Hats sound the best. Everything else to me sounds "cheap".
Least favorite: Sabian and the Meinl.
great videos .... love it
New Beats sound amazing. Very musical. No wonder why Neil Peart and Manu Katche used these. Best sounding of the bunch.
Hearing the head to heads you can really tell how Neil Peart took the inspiration from his 13" New Beats to design the Paragon series, but they do have an extra something. A friend of mine once had the 13" A Custom Mastersounds. Wish I'd made him an offer for those.
Zildjians were nice, the serpent meinl, but those Wuhans!!! Super impressed!!
As for 13" sound- the K Custom Hybrids and Paiste Signature really cuts through!
Paiste the most Crisp and Clean sounding … Got a Bronze version 14” myself to this day beyond a decade and plays the same from when i bought it
You get a like just for that intro song. Changed my life.
I like the Paiste Signature hats the best, followed by the Agop Traditional Light hats. The Agop Xist Dry hats were the ones I didn't like at all!
My favorite 13" hihat are the Special K Dry 13". Those are my go to HH for small gigs. Missed those in this video. 😢
Unfortunately those are being discontinued, but yeah, super cool sounding!
The Istanbul Traditional Light hats sound a lot like New Beats (not a bad thing!)
Pleasantly surprised by those!
Signature & new beat 🙌🏼
Zildjian K Custom Hybrids !
These Wuhans are by far the best cymbals I have played. It is pure Insanity how cheap these are for how amazing they sound. B20 alloy at this price is unheard of. It's not just that though. I think it's because most drummers would laugh at you if they see that Wuhan logo on there. When I say is, keep laughing. I'll just be over here, playing things that sound like Zildjian K's for less than a third of the price. Absolutely amazing cymbals.
Love the intro song! Lol!
I like the Sabians the best but the K hats and the New Beat were nice too.
Solid list! The only oversight imo is no Sabian 13" Fierce Hats!
Of these, I'm partial to the meinl serpents, the paragon and the Istanbul xist dry dark
