- Here is the last flight of KFS's beloved BF-110.
Having just changed the electric engines for 2 x DLE-20 petrols, the plane spun in after a couple of minutes of flight. Further investigation revealed a screw had dropped out which secured the left wing-end section to the aluminium spar. Subsequently, it worked itself loose and rotated. This can be seen if you view the slow-motion footage taken from the ground, pausing the film as the plane rotates.
We love this plane, though. If you're going to build a petrol twin in this class (.91-1.20 each side), those DLE-20s are well worth considering.
Will order a new kit and transfer most of the old stuff into the new, taking special care next time to do our engineering and pre-flight checks more thoroughly. Авто/Мото
Some 90 year old vet living on the countryside had a flashback and took it down with a skeet shotgun.
ME 110 crashing in a field in Kent , that was´nt uncommon some years ago.....
nejsig I get that feeling
The onboard engine notes sounded fantastic and the inflight footage was amazing. Sorry that it crashed. Thanks for posting.
Sad to see such a fantastic model crash. All that work! Good to hear a replacement has been finished.
+
An invisible Spitfire shot it down
XD
Jose A. Romo YES 💪
Or a Hurricane
Been there, done that as well! Go luck with the new build. We feel for your loss my friend and look forward to future flying fun watching your progress.
thanks for some of the best crash footage ever recorded so sorry about the 110 wow it was fine please keep us posted
Great model, great attitude! Tragic crash...glad you got another one just like it!
Hey ! the sound of these two from the cockpit, reminds me when flying a Beechcraft 57 Baron. Sound and vibrate almost the same. Nice video!
That was a great effort - well flown and executed - heartbreaking ! All of us that do this regularly crash, it's just a matter of when. This was worse because even your fine piloting could not save it because of the failure. Those GoPro cameras are amazing for their durability - this is another testament ! Thanks for the onboard view - I video every flight, upload the best takes and can diagnose problems that I could not on the ground (or see what happened FROM the plane !)
Sorry for your loss. But that was great on-board footage! Did sound like the props were a little out of sync
Beautiful sounding and flying airplane. Good video with the ground and cockpit views. This kind of thing happens and thanks for sharing the video. Best of luck with the new home for those DLE 20's.
Sorry for the lost Major, good to know you're almost done with the rebuild!
WoW those twin engines sound amazing, the plane camera really captures the hum and drone that you get from multi engined planes, sad to see the 110 go down,
That looked spectacular! So sad that its broken though, it looks amazing!
Well, you got some amazing footage of it atleast. :)
Can't wait for your new plane!
That was great. Thanks for posting. In spite of the wing failure, your effort was a success.
Sad to see such a beauty go in, i have a mosquito to get finished myself. Love your attitude toward the hobby, some people just get waaaaayyy too angry when they pile one up. As we all know, this can be a pride devouring hobby.
Wow, the on board sound was really realistic. Would love to shoot thru a canopy to improve the effect. I snapped a spar on my test flight of a 1939 Maxwell Basset Cardinal (free flight with power) I have converted to slope soaring. Then crunched the front end hand launching a test flight into too strong a headwind. It ballooned from I think a CG problem. She's ready again with a strengthened wing and nose. Should be a sweetheart as soon as I master the test glides. We fly at the bluff along the beach here in Long Beach California. Thanks for the great show and happy landings. Paul V
The GoPro was marvelous, why other don't follow suite has got me. Some of these rc models are huge
Well that sucks. Sorry to see that. Spectacular footage for whatever its worth. Good attitude, a true RC Pilot. Good luck with version 2.0
Great video... reason why i make my wings complete.. no split section.. sad it came out and crashed :(
sd card = black box
giannisxxx
Great video apart from the crash. Love the sound of the twin four strokes.
Thank you for the video. It is obvious that you were quite proud of the plane, What a pity it came to such an ending. I Almost built a model once myself, when I was 15 with balsa wood. That was 60 years ago, and then just when I had the wings in place my dog ruined the lot, after sanding down the nose block and all. I will watch this space for your next flight.
Damn, what a shame on such a fine model. Best of luck on the next one. Thanks for sharing!
I saw that wingtip go straight away. The low passes were stunning.
clean cut damage on just one wing after such a crash. seemed very well built.
I like how they put the go pro in the cockpit view
Fantastic model and a sorry end to the flight - Great looking plane and wish you the best for V2. Regards Peter from Bartons Point Flying Club Kent - we have our "Flying Spectacular" 2nd weekend in July - would love to see you and the new model there if its ready. Good luck Peter.
The on board sound was beautiful.it's a real shame.I tend to stay away from twins but I'm a sucker for a 110.
Thought I heard a Merlin engine just before the loss of control.
Damn!!!
Well documented crash.
Great video. My brother was doing a video just like this and was in one of the planes that crashed. He died the exact same way. Scary.
love the slow mo oh DEAR !! awesome
Man! That is truly heartbreaking. I feel for you. I lost a few great planes through structural or R/C fail. I bent a few from my one poor piloting, too. Seems there is something new to go wrong in every flight. I had a big (6 ft WS) camera AC that I was using to photograph a large public picknick and the battery pack came undone and broke the ground wire. I had the A/C in a wide left-hand turn- Of course, all servos held steady in that flight configuration and the plane was in a death spiral with an ever-increasing turn, coming lower on one side and higher on the other- after 6 turns, she was nearing head level when she passed over the people. Absolutely nothing I could do about it- I so wished I had brought a shotgun. I just knew it would hit a kid or a lawyer. I rushed over to warn people to get out of the way. Just as I arrived the AC slammed into a large steel trash container. just fifty meters away from the crowd. I was never so thankful to see one of my aircraft crash. I lost a pretty expensive camera and the .90 engine was split I didn't mind at all, I figured I had gotten away cheap. I never again took a job flying near people. That A/C had been so reliable for many jobs, too- Never gave a problem until it really mattered.
Man, Sorry for the lose. She was a pure beaut. Great camera work aswell. I can't wait to see the re-maiden.
I've been an RC pilot since 1980. Love the hobby!!! You have done a beautiful job with the plane as well as the fine editing job on the video. Unfortunately....all of our planes have "expiration" dates. We just don't know when it is. My mentor said to me back in 1980...."there are two kinds of RC planes. Those that have crashed and those that are about to. Sorry for your crash.
And what is the beautiful job one can do on a ARF or RTF model?
I was referring to an actual "Build"....from blueprints and a "lumber yard of wood" in a box. I'm from the old school. I like to build my models. I have some ARF's....but they are not as well built as my other models.
trumpetman514
So we agree that other than take the credit card outside the wallet there is not much with building a model.

Carbon like rc models. ARF and RTF models bought the destruction of the hobby. He didnt even bothered to rebuilt it. He bought a new one.
Guardian Observer Right now....60% of my fleet of planes have gone into the ground...most of them were built from plans...I am considering picking up a few ARF's so I have something to fly....Most of my friends, in my club, are engineers and like to build from scratch...to each his own. They build some extraordinary models. Happy Holidays to you.
Happy Christmas also to you.
I agree that unfortunately scratch builders fate is to stay more in workshop and less fly his models.
Wondervull plane and a dramatically end, hope you gave it a second chance :)
That was a BEAUTIFUL airplane. Didn't seem to be loaded up any worse than what it was seeing before the crash. Vibration seperating the left-rear wing joiner? Seemed the the panel was still attached via the spar tube after the crash. Building is fun too but very sorry this one got re-kitted!
Amazing plane.. But sad how finish.. Great work
Great video and aircraft! When viewed and heard from the onboard camera the engines sound like the big ones. Was the aircraft repaired and still flying? Good luck!
Dissonance between engines cracked it like a wine glass in a Memorex commercial.
That was a beautiful plane. Looked so realistic! At least you know the cause and can avoid a repeat. Please upload the new one's maiden when you get there.
That has to be fixed that's a beautiful plane and I know you put a lot of work into it but you did a nice job especially the video is cool,👨✈️
Thanks for sharing the video..... lol, hurt me to see her fall & I wonder if you ever
fully determined what caused the frame to fracture on that wing? I know you took
her home & looked close at everything that was left of it..... I thought at first that
you had tried to roll her but I heard a distinct "cracking" of what was the entire
wing. What was learned after you looked at everything closer?
I'm new to the hobby as in... not even bought a plane.
It looks at slow mo that left eleron stack at end position probably servo freack out...check voltage...
Thanks for posting. Dont blame yourself, you were hosed by KMP/ESM. I have their Stuka and the firewall came loose after a couple of flights despite being a little underpowered. Their planes look good but you have to do a ton of work to fix all the things they should have done right in the factory.
Ouch! No matter how many times I see this happen it never gets any easier. Sorry this happened to ya bro :(
Best 3D vid I've seen in ages. Think they call that move a Crank Shaft!
sounds like a prop broke,if you listen, you can hear it let go,sad to see your hard word die,it happends harder with the twin props. The engines sounded differently also, but they were both running,no stalls.
Yeah gotta use blue loctite on that stuff, you don't realize just how much vibration gets absorbed by the fuselage and wing. Those DLE's sounded nice, Rear intake or side ?
I can hear Sir Laurence Olivier in the back of my head narrating this lol
And it looked tail heavy to get such a spin going tip off or not!
Very nice model, highly loaded. The outboard part of the starboard wing folded up during a turn and flapped up and down during the initial stage, when it was inverted for a split second one could see this action. Pity really.
That's a beautiful plane even though you crash you can still repair it and it will still look good... ;)
I hate seeing the demise of an excellent aircraft! I'm sure you'll have her or another, back in the air soon!
where can i buy one of messerschmitt kit for
Is there any difference flying between EPO foam n the traditional balsa...my only guess would be the wing doesnt flex as much for balsa....
A diy model of a QF 3.7inch comes to mind. Could be a hell of fun at the next rc airfield.
That was a fantastic onboard sound. My mother, who was in her early twenties during the BoB told me you could tell if the sound was a German plane because of the off beat throbbing sound the engines made....
wondering why u don't put a parachute in it , for emergency cases just like that
The replacement BF-110 is nearing completion. Will post the flying video as and when!
Got the right fin clipped off by Wonder Woman’s silent invisible jet. Beautiful bird, by the way. That comment, “Somewhere in a field in Kent” was funny and apropos!
That Bf110 looks like a Me410 (Hornisse) is it a mix?
Greetings from Germany.
It was a lovely model. Hope you fixed it.
Why only two blades per prop and not the correct 3? More efficient with two?
I had the same plane, I think on mine the firewall gave out, the plane turned over onto its back than dived straight into the ground.
Aw man, that sucked. That was a beautiful airframe too.
The new kit has arrived and we'll be starting the new incarnation of this truly awesome machine. We're replacing the DLE-20s with new ones and hopefully will have it flying for the summer. Thanks for watching!
Just finished building the replacement BF-110 and will take it down to the Lydd Club for its maiden flight as soon as the weather clears up a bit....
don't fly it like a fighter jet and it may last..
+EliteGeeks You mean the turns?
Most probably the full throttle dives too.
EliteGeeks It's left wing tip gave way because this R/C model was not meant to to go at such speeds, maybe he needs to get an aluminum airframe.... My R/C BF 109 was amazing
Sorry about that mate, gutted :( really is a beautiful bird tho, I love the weathering and the panel line details, did you ever find what went wrong? It seems that either the wing became detached slightly, or possibly the structural bar fatigued
things that make you say "Bugger". Very nice looking and flying model.
We were told and assured that there would be no Spitfires in the area, and that the RAF is under equipped. :-) I'm sorry that this happened to you. Greeting from Apache Junction, Arizona.
I've never seen them test a camera in that way on the Gadget Show!
was a lovely model, that's sad to see any model crash, that's why i check every things ok,but thing's can break in mid air
Oh dear, back to the drawing board! It was a nice plane while it lasted!
What scale is this?
Video was taken 1940
(COLORIZED)
What model and brand is the plane? im looking at buying one. If you could even direct me to the website that would be greatly appreciated
The R/C Spitfire that wasn't caught on camera peeled off and did a victory roll - guns still smoking. Seriously though - that was a beautiful plane, I always CRINGE when I see awesome warbirds like that crash at my flying club. Happily it doesn't happen too often - but when it does I always remember my dad's saying "Each one of these planes has it's expiration date."
whot kit is it bud ta
Отличное видео. Особенно с бортовой видеокамеры. Непонятно почему сорвался. Попытаться Вывести мало времени и высоты было(.
"'I'm not going to crash, I'm not going to crash, I'm not going to crash, I'm not going to crash!" (Later I crashed) Weak wing center folded during high G turn on a modified long wing OT Free Flight converted to slope. It was an original prewar kit of a Maxwell Basset Cardinal. A good objective preflight might have caught the structural weakness. Extra layers of coating might have been enough to strength the center of the wing. I rebuilt.
Bummer great plane was it the frame?
looks like the left wing was stalled caused the spin. I thinks you need change the aerodynamic of this model.
it looks like it can be fixed? did yall fix it or junk in?
cool idea putting a cam on top off the plane.
Tough break way to take it like a man though, find the cause, and build another. Bravo.
Nice plane too.
You mean "bought another".
Very sad :(
Good luck next time !!!
What a mess, but why the propellers only had two leafs?
what kit is this and where from??? cheers
wheres the cockpit???
Very nice plane, hope you can repair it.
where the left airlon?
What was salvaged?
Always a shame when somebodies pride and joy comes to grief, condolensces.
Not the first BF 110 that went down over Kent. It's like WWII all over again. ;)
It looked like a re-enactment of the Rudolf Hess flight
hello everybody,
iam looking for a cunstruction plan for this warbird. have anyone an idea where i can find it?
at this moment i found only crap.
by the way, nice crash, but it hurts to see this
Bugger the bloody airframe, who tunes your engines ??? I have NEVER heard a twin gasser in snyc so PERFECTLY. The hum from the onboard video was melodic, and not one splutter from either motor in the flight. VERY nicely tuned.
Pity about the failure, not a major design flaw after all, as thought, but a really simple ASS BITER type one. OBVIOUSLY the single screw mounting isn't enough. Shame it took a nice model to find it out. I concede, it is rather hard to fly a model with 50% of the wing at 90 degrees to the other 50% of the wing.....
