Watched the Netflix series and was deeply depressed after. He was a genius and deserves more recognition. His designs were revolutionary!
Just watched the series on Netflix and was intrigued to know more about him. He was a fashion genius.
Me too
SAMEEE! I’m obsessed.
I saw this documentary. The series is much more entertaining! 😂
@@victoriagarcia5533 But it's not entirely factual.
@@eraliaa3219 yeah… I know. That’s why it’s more entertaining. However, there was this more raw documentary done on him by Whitney Smith. I thought the Netflix series mirrored that one more not the other documentary. He gets more information about Victor Hugo.
Halston was a genius designer. I am a designer, and making a long sleeve bias dress with lots of detail at the neck out of ONE piece of fabric with only one seam is absolutely unbelievable!!
My mother is a seamstress and she has always been an admirer of Halston. She told me what she thought was great about him was he didn't waste and he could create for any class of people.
Watched the Netflix series a couple of days ago and I was floored with Ewan McGregor's performance as well as the series itself, just fabulous. I wanna know more of this great and complex man. Definitely going to watch this documentary.
my thoughts exactly! was absolutely touched by his vision, his flaws, his humanity. troubled genius!
@@gracebyrnes Go on Amazon and you can read his Lifestory. It was written by Steven Gaines who also wrote Bestselling Novels about Calvin Klein, The Beach Boys and with Peter Brown co wrote a Book about The Beatles.
It's ashamed the way these stuck-up designer stores dropping him after JCPenney. Now, designers do it all the time.
I remember that Halston II line at JCP. The high end stores dropped him like a bad habit, but like you say all the high end designers do it now & no one blinks an I.
He was ahead of his time
I'm related to Halston!!! So glad all of you guys love him as much as I do. Frowick's are the best
Well good for you. What I loved about him is that the was the Frist American Designer to feature Women Of Color in his Shows most notably Iman and Pat Cleveland. He influenced so many Designers from Tom Ford, Calvin Klein and Isaac Mizrahi. His name was even featured in Waiting To Exhale which was the first book by an African American Woman to go to Number One on The New York Times Bestseller List. Halston's Name was also featured in other Bestselling Books like Chances by The Late Jackie Collins and The Love Machine By Jacqueline Sussan. His name was also thinly disguised in Rock Star as A Gay Tall Dress Designer Don't you notice that folks who come from Small Towns have the biggest personalities, him and Truman Capote.
Sure u are? 😂
I just watched the movie. As a child of the 70’s and 80’s, I really enjoyed the movie. Then I purchased two Halston dress patterns which are cut on the bias. He was a wonderful designer.
Halston's clothes is not only super sexy but he is super sexy himself, i am so envious of you.
@@laminage ...you forgot ...the 1st black supermodel...NAOMI SIMS...H...worked with her A LOT...
Oh, my God! At last a real documentary on one of the greatest designers in fashion history!
Right?? About time.
This is not the first one. Ultrasuede, made in 2012, was excellent.
Wow, one of the greatest documentary film of all time. For someone who grew up learning about Halston, the story was always one sided and shallow to say the least but this documentary puts all the pieces together and all of the sudden, the story adds up and it makes sense, more believable and fascinating.
I still have an Ultrasuede Jacket from this wonderful designer...can't wait to see the film.
I need to find one!
Halston, along with Gucci and Fiorucci, are mentioned in Sister Sledge's song, "He's The Greatest Dancer." Halston was ahead of its time when he introduced fast fashion for the mass at JC Penney. Everyone wanted to be in a Halston and Bob Mackie in those days.
He loved that Song. Bernard Edwards & Nile Rogers (Most notably Nile Rodgers) is still an Icon in The UK where in The US he's "Old School". Alot of UK Boybands/Pop Stars do their versions of his Songs. Steps a Co-Ed Group did their Version of "Everybody Dance" as did Kimberley Walsh formerly of Girls Aloud, he also worked with Duran Duran after Roger & Andy Taylor (No Relation left). His Former Partner Tony Thompson was in The Power Station.
A real documentary on Halston, yes! Finally! Love Halston, can't wait for this film to be available💖🔥
I’m here because of the Netflix series. I remember his clothing when I was a kid in the 80s. But I didn’t realize he was such a high end designer. I guess bcz of the Penny’s mass production. What a shame they took his name. I really love his style.
I was riveted by this documentary. Halston was a fashion genius. A must watch. 👍
The truly great American designer with foresight.
I watched the documentary on Amazon Prime, bought a vintage Holston men's cologne because of it. I love it, this guy was an icon, his success was because of his creative and his team.
Z-14?
Halston's fragrances were not as daring as his fashions. I do like z-14 but it is a vintage bottle . The new versions smell like Christmas cookies. @@Will-ge7ri
So Lagerfeld was not the first high-end designer to put together a clohting line for a mass market retail company.
first? he wasn't even the twentieth
@@BernardProfitendieu I mean it's not like there has been hundreds of high profile designers who worked for a multinational
@@bringiton5282 I'll give you that ... he's somewhere between twenty and one hundred
CHANEL CO CO IS THE MAKING OF LAGERFELD , HE WAS NOT A GENIUS FASHION ICON .
Dior had a mass market label
I wonder how many children of florists he put through college with his orchid obsession lol
He was better than Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger PUT TOGETHER. He deserved a better legacy and a better ending to his life.
But of course, it’s the geniuses that always leaves us first.
Halston was an innovator, always looking for new ways of constructing garments many of which were cut on the bias. This is what set him high above his contemporaries and so deserving of his crown as the king of American fashion.
what du mean h deserved a better ending to his life? it was his choosing to live the way he did, no one else but his own.
expensive Male Hustlers ? @@lmarteen2778
Ewan McGregor is playing him in the Halston series.
I think he was miscast but the series intrigued me enough to find out more about Halston.
Yes just watched that. The likeness between the real people and the actors in the series is uncanny. BUT... it does present Elsa Perretti as somewhat of a 'creation of Halston'. Looking at various clips in RUclips, she was clearly her own person even before meeting Halston.
@@missymissymiss5192 definitely agree. And I also think it is important we cast (age appropriate) Americans in the roles of our iconic American figures, something Hollywood gets wrong time and time again.
Pat Cleveland.. Halstons Muse... She was spellbinding
If you really want to learn about the real Halston, nevermind that Netflix series, which seems to be overly obsessed with his sex life and drug use, rather than exploring Halston's genius. THIS is the one to watch!
the doc 'In Search of Halston' was pretty good. This trailer looks exciting. I'm there.
Immediately on our MUST SEE list
I had to watch this documentary after watching the Netflix series. I really recommend it.
One of my all-time favorite docs
Watch this not the Netflix version
This just opened in L.A. Gotta see it!
Elsa is stunning!!! Just watched the Netflix series.
I love Halston
Owning a "Name" was synonymous at Motown. They owned the Rights to The names of The Temptations, Supremes, Jackson Five & Miracles. They acquired it although Berry Gordy Jr., didn't "create" their names, it was in a Clause that the acts missed when they signed contracts. None had lawyers with them to show them, and most were barely out of high school so what did they know.
Amazing Trailer
Wow, amazing trailer. Holy mackerel. xx
ICON.
Before Tom Ford there was Halston
Omg, I must see this. I read a biography of Halston. He was Fascinating 💢💥💢
Amazing Film.
Can’t wait to see this!
goosebumps!!!
Lol 😂 this is my name
me after watching the show searching "who is halston based on?" lol some shows just makes you want to know more i love it
The real Halston is more handsome than the actor.
So Gianni Versace wasn't the first fashion designer to put celebrities at the front row of his fashion shows?
Because fashion articles say VERSACE did that first not Halston.
Yes, Halston was the first. Versace came later after Halston already paved the way, although Versace's style and vibe were very different.
@@HenryJuhala No it was Versace.
I've read this from so many sources in the fashion world.
Here is an example:
maripiermorin.com/en/2018/02/07/versace-and-the-celebrities-love-story/
If you read about Versace it always say that Gianni Versace was the first fashion designer to invite celebrities to his fashion show.
So this trailer and movie is giving credit to the wrong designer.
@Christine Mills I didn't say that Versace was the first fashion designer to DRESS celebrities.
All the famous fashion designers have dressed celebrities and royalty.
But I've always read that Gianni Versace was the first fashion designer to invite celebrities to his fashion shows and sit them at front row.
Look it up.
Versace was the first not Halston.
So this trailer and movie is wrong.
Does it really matter?
@@murkavli Yes because someone should not get the credit for someone else's acheivement in life.
What's THE DISCO SONG ???
“Just a feeling” by Stanley Clarke (1979)
what's the name of that song? I only got one word out of it "dance"
Just a Feeling by Stanley Clarke
I'll never understand why he did the JC Penny move.... What did he see in that.?
He wanted to introduce fast fashion for the mass. Halston was thinking about the future of fashion. If he'd still be alive today he will be the king of it.
@@jpman2173 exactly, designers do it all the time now
This documentary was very well made. I can only presume he would have been sickened by the undignified fictional limited series version that followed.
What's the song in the beginning?
Just a Feeling by Stanley Clarke
Is there any where to watch this movie online? I am willing to pay just can’t find a place to watch.
Hi Matthew,
You can watch Halston here: radi.al/HalstonFilm
The film is available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Vimeo, and more!
We all know that designers, once they are no longer on top will go to Target or Penney's.... but just from this trailer, it would seem Halston was possibly the first...and not necessarily no longer on top, when he did it. Too bad he was vilified for it. I'm guessing they made big money selling expensive high fashion to a few of the world's elite, while making BILLIONS selling cheaper clothes to the masses. She's not a designer, but look at Jessica Simpson. She's now a billionaire because of her cheap vinyl purses and clothes.
She’s nowhere close to a billionaire. Her net worth is only 200 million
Woah! Excited to watch ❤🤩
IF Phil Hartman was still alive: they could do a wicked PARODY of Halston. Hartman looked like him and had the same tone of voice.
I really love him. unfortunately I was not alive when he was out lol but I have brought one of his dresses
Yessss
Luv his design, most of his stuffs r either copied or redesign by other designers to make it their own
Ewan McGregor was not the one to play Halston, I think he over relied on cigarettes and a monotone voice.
Hard disagree, he was amazing.
But all designers are for the masses, now. It’s makes financial sense.
Anyone else think Halston looked like Phil Hartman?
Phil Hartman actually played Halston in an SNL sketch in the 1980s.
I partyed within back in the day, he was an animal!
Such a doll!
The Great Charismatic American Dorian Gray of his Day.
JC Penney was quite fashionable in the 80s, and affordable. I still have some Z-14 cologne.
g adoré, adoré, un voyage temporel dans une époque que je n'ai pas connu mais qui rend nostalgique, je cherche la chanson qui débute à 0'15'', merci
What's a "bias" ??
The man himself is dressed in Style and radiates Sophistication (unlike most of todays designers who look like Freaks)
I remember him from My Favorite Martion.
Yo acá después de ver la serie en Netflix 😅😅 me encantó

Yet the Netflix series cast an older Scottish man to play this brilliant "All American boy." smh
And he did very well.
@@yanet9671 many people actually familiar with Halston disagree.

I'm a fashion guru from europ! never heard of halston.
Hard to believe you are when he was a significant figure in the 70s especially American fashion that time.
@@eraliaa3219 American fashion??? 70s? Thats all!
He's American born but speaks w British accent?‼️
It’s a now extinct manufactured dialect from the early 20th century, “The Mid-Atlantic” dialect... sounds a bit UK-ish.
