This episode was probably the one where I really got hooked on MP100. The music with those eerie kazoos, the animation, that final switch - ???%'s first appearance is creepy af and immaculately done.
100% sadness is one of my fave moments in the entire series and just the depth they allow Mobs emotions to have. Kinda wish I got to hear more about your thoughts on that.
same. 100% sadness is so underrated, just. the music, mobs heartbroken expression. seeing this little middle school boy who is just trying so hard to protect others from himself, such a big responsibility on such little shoulders. he never gets a break with this responsibility, and letting it slip could mean destruction of everything around him. hurting his friends and family. and when he hurt someone again, after so much emotional buildup, he's just absolutely devastated that he couldn't change again. I just want to scoop him up and hold him and take that responsibility from him. he doesn't deserve this, he's just a small little boy, he should be doing normal kid stuff instead of this

the ??? happens when Kageyama is unconscious, so when he was getting choked, and slowly rising to 100%, he passes out and the timer to his explosion stopped at wherever it was before he passed out, but when he passes out like that he becomes an unhinged version of himself where he basically has no control over his actions, different from when he hits his 100% explosions cause with his 100% explosion he still has control over what he is doing, his actions are just being influenced by his emotions. after he regained his consciousness, the timer to his explosion resumed from where it was paused before he passed out, and the emotion that exploded this time was sadness.
And so now, you begin to see the problem here, regarding Shigeo/Mob. See, when it comes to anything by ONE (the creator of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100), one of his favorite things to play with is obviously the shonen trope of characters who believe that only the strong should be allowed to have their way, ignoring the glaring flaw in that mindset...there's ALWAYS going to be someone stronger. However, ONE also turns this trope on its head by asking a very interesting question...what if there really WAS no one stronger? Is the grass REALLY greener on the other side? In the case of One Punch Man, it's brought Saitama no happiness because he realized there was nothing left for him to achieve. And in the case of Mob Psycho 100, it's brought Shigeo no happiness because he realized his powers make him just as dangerous to the people he cares about as to whatever random threat might happen to stumble his way. This is why Shigeo is the way he is. It's why it's why he suppresses his emotions to the point where he "explodes" like this. It's why he tries to use his powers as little as possible, if he doesn't have to. And it's why he reached out to someone like Reigen (even though Reigen is obviously using him), because he's desperately looking for something...ANYTHING...to anchor himself to his humanity, so he doesn't transform into the monster he's terrified of becoming. I think we're at the point where you see that now, especially after bearing witness to "The Unknown Percentage". And you're only going to see just how much harder it gets for him, going forward. ^_^;
Teru gazing upon the sun, and realising how small he is compared to the sun, is a parallel with him awakening the "???", and realising how " small" he is compared to Mob He finally realizes, while in comparison with the sun and Mob, that there's much powerful things than him. He's actually not that special. It was a humbling experience.

Mob Psycho 100 is a masterpiece which toggles between comedy and eerie so seamlessly, I love this
I'm really glad he hasn't seen season 2 yet. season 1 is great, but I absolutely love season 2 and it'll be a good first watch for him
