This episode was nuts 🔥 Loving Teru as a character! We’ve finished Season 1 over on Patreon for anyone interested in getting ahead! www.patreon.com/carlie_and_ange
You gotta remember they are not just watching naturally like us, they are watching, speaking, making jokes, basically thinking about what to say next simultaneously to keep the audience engaged, and also at the same time worrying about saying something stupid which will lead to a backlash in the comment section, lol, which obviously leads to missing some scenes. It seems like an easy job, but it’s not.
The subtle handle press by Ritsu there shows that he is contemplating what exactly he needs to say there. He lied. It was Mob who hurt him. He just wanted Mob to feel better so he lied.
@@KaruvitomskI’d argue your comment is more venturing into spoiler’s territory… the point of that scene was meant to show Ritsu was hiding something and not exactly being truthful
The dialogue from Teru talking about Mob being a vessel is referring to the fact that he was absorbing energy from all around him, and from Teru himself, and that Teru couldn't sense a limit to how much energy he could contain. It is kind of just a way to show the difference in strength between them.
I have a feeling Ritsu lied when he said it wasn't Mob who hurt him. The whole scene makes me believe that Ritsu is hesitating or even showing some fear.
The saddest part of this, is we spend the first few episodes waiting excitedly to see what Mob's explosion means, and we think we understand what he's dealing with, what he's afraid of, and why he's holding back all the time. We think it's tough on a kid like that, but the outcome is kinda cool. And then we find out that him holding his emotions back and the 100% spillover state isn't what he's truly worried about. He knows that whatever ??? is, it's so monstrous and unrestrained, that he's afraid of even his regular feelings because he doesn't know what that ??? state is, how it works, and what he might do in it.
the ???% was pure survival instinct. he was out and his subconcious took over. as for the second actual explosion i love that the explosions have different emotions attached to them, the first against dimple was rage and this one was sadness. leaves you wondering about what other emotions will surface ritsu mightve lied about mob not hurting him to calm him down, too
Ochi = fallen, Musha = warrior so Ochimusha means "fallen warrior". The word Ochimusha is usually used to speak of a samurai whose side is defeated in war, survivor of the losing side would of course be tracked down by the winners, but also by peasant regardless of affiliation (to show loyalty to the winning side, vengeance against their oppressor and also to loot the valuable equipment of the samurai). They are often depicted with the top of their head completely bald to represent their loss of status as a samurai normally have a topknot left on the otherwise shaved head top, which is what Anazawa is speaking of.
Ritsu was lying about it being the the bullies who hurt him so Mob wouldn’t feel guilty. Notice how in his flashback he was still fine when Mob exploded. The implication was that Mob was at ???% when it happened, which is why he looked so scared watching the tv
nah his brother didn't lie entirely, like Mob really didn't hurt him.. well at a physically level at least. is just that when Mob exploded, a look of an unknown being that seems to merged out of Mob's body which Ritsu saw and perceived it as not his brother, that being terrified Ritsu. so like is not a lie when Ritsu tell Mob that Mob didn't hurt him, like Ritsu wasn't physically scarred by Mob but in terms of emotional level, Ritsu was definitely scarred for life by that unknown being that Ritsu saw that came up of Mob, a being that he believes that isn't his brother Mob.
Teru's humbling was something rather unique: The sublime. Something so incomprehensibly greater than yourself, that you are humbled by your newfound understanding of how tiny and insignificant you are. Mob's 100% is something you can see, something you can understand. Something strong. ???% was... More than could be measured. Teru got thrown beyond the clouds alongside the rubble of the school. Even in his response, Mob still managed to keep Teru alive, but whatever ???% is, it decided to show Teru that there is nothing he could do, that he is nothing more than a speck of rubble when thrown past the clouds. He's had main character syndrome, rather explicitly, and the big fish in a small pond analogy sums up his character nicely. So ???% Mob shows that big fish the ocean. And Teru understood pretty fast: He's nothing in comparison to whatever ???% is. And then he understood the concept of him being nothing at all. He gained the perspective he drastically needed.
14:02 You're so observative, yes, there are two different percentage system for Mob, one of it is Mob normal singular emotion like 100% sadness, 100% gratitute, 100% anger, yet they ain't happen all together. Whereas the other one, that even Ritsu refuse to recognise that as his brother, that's something else yet to be unveiled. You will eventually get to that part in later seasons.
I like how when Mob thinks Dimple has been "killed" and is gone forever Mob's % barely change at all, showing how Mob is not naive but sees through Dimple trying to manipulate him, he is basically just like "oh, he is gone, he was annoying anyways" lol
The first time I saw Shigeo become overcome with sadness at his inability to change hit me like a freight train. I started watching this for the comedy and great fights, I wasn't prepared to go to therapy on episode 5.
In case you didn't catch it, the two times we see ???% Mob this episode, its after Mobs been knocked unconscious. You were asking the difference between 100% and ???%, the show was telling you that when he went ???% after being choked out then woke up and went 100%
It's like a ronin, whereas a ronin was a dishonored Samurai that kills innocent people, ochimusha on other hand was also a dishonored samurai in a way that they run away from fights. Japanese values their pride and what they believe was honor on even throwing life to the fight, thus Ochimusha was depicted as this bald at the top ugly guy to represent dishonor.
The sub is absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend sticking with it! The dub is good, but with this series I still prefer sub. (Please dont start dub vs sub fights its just my opinion lol) Ritsu was also not being totally honest with Mob at the end. It was Mob who did that to him. The slight twitch of the hand and looking away was a nice but maybe too subtle tell that he wasnt being honest.
Oh yeah, especially considering what they did to MOBs eng VA in s3 and the new VA doesn't really fit that well, I definitely recommend sticking to the sub as well. Although they could have fun with the dub on a rewatch because Reigens eng VA is simply glorious lol.
Yeah I love dub when it actually delivers for example Cyberpunk Edgerunners has an incredible dub and is my preferred way of watching that anime. Whereas for Mob Psycho the sub is better
This is episode is insane! A turning point on Mob, the second season is the next turning point, but the first season finale is phenomenal, the best Mob ending 🙌
DiD yOu KnOw? Mob was only able to repair the school the way he did because he has such a good understanding and love for it he knew exactly where every piece belonged. I swear it's true and not just head Canon
it absolutely is headcannon btw, he can just return stuff to its original state, no need to know about it, people have begun this headcannon because of the poem that the girl wrote
100% is mob's powers amplified by emotions while ???% is mob's powers devoid of humanity. Being unconscious is a big part of it. There is more to it than that but that would be a huge spoiler since self discovery is a big part of this series.
I think Reigen and Dimple were both necessary for Mob's development. Reigen's advice is about keeping Mob humble. Dimple's advice (in his own megalomaniacal way) is about helping Mob become more assertive and less of a doormat.
Doesnt really matter but the voice that said "I completely lost" was Teru's, not Mob's. His brother is lying when he says Mob didnt hurt him. The music and showing him grip the door handle is meant to portray that he is lying and give an ominous tone. Also, Teru wasnt hurting Mob at all except the time he said "Ow" and when mob didn't use psychic powers to defend against getting choked since Teru wasn't using powers.
And so now, you begin to see the problem here, regarding Shigeo/Mob. See, when it comes to anything by ONE (the creator of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100), one of his favorite things to play with is obviously the shonen trope of characters who believe that only the strong should be allowed to have their way, ignoring the glaring flaw in that mindset...there's ALWAYS going to be someone stronger. However, ONE also turns this trope on its head by asking a very interesting question...what if there really WAS no one stronger? Is the grass REALLY greener on the other side? In the case of One Punch Man, it's brought Saitama no happiness because he realized there was nothing left for him to achieve. And in the case of Mob Psycho 100, it's brought Shigeo no happiness because he realized his powers make him just as dangerous to the people he cares about as to whatever random threat might happen to stumble his way. This is why Shigeo is the way he is. It's why it's why he suppresses his emotions to the point where he "explodes" like this. It's why he tries to use his powers as little as possible, if he doesn't have to. And it's why he reached out to someone like Reigen (even though, deep down, even HE knows that Reigen is obviously using him), because he's desperately looking for something...ANYTHING...to anchor himself to his humanity, so he doesn't transform into the monster he's terrified of becoming. I think we're at the point where you see that now, especially after bearing witness to "The Unknown Percentage". And you're only going to see just how much harder it gets for him, going forward. ^_^;

@@santhoshj6854 Yes. I know that. I don't blame at all. I just little surprised. Because they are very sharp and always notice things.
I think its easier to understand with the english dub for english speakers. I actually prefer the dub to the sub for this anime, they did a great job.
