Heavy police activity - high security prison escort convoy

  • Here is an exciting first for me and probably one of the best catches I’ve ever got, multiple police cars and armed police officers escort highly dangerous prisoners from court to jail.
    This escort was undertaken by the operational patrol unit at West Mercia Police. First, a BMW 5 series rides ahead to hold conflicting traffic in the junction and armed officers leave the vehicle and stand guard to ensure no persons or vehicles can interfere with the escort or no prisoners are escaping. The rest of the vehicle are simply to stand guard of the prison van, using their sirens and lights to make their presence known to drivers.
    The convoy consists of numerous BMW police cars carrying armed officers as well as an Iveco van which is holding the detainees. There are some very interesting vehicles in the convoy including an awesome new generation BMW X5 demonstrator vehicle which was primarily used by Cleveland Police though I’m not sure if it still belongs to them or West Mercia. At the back of the convoy, there is an unmarked X5 which was converted into a marked vehicle temporarily, probably due to legal reasons, by simply adding a small light bar and a police sign.
    Vehicles featured (in order of convoy):
    BMW 530d estate
    Operational Patrol Unit (Primarily a traffic car)
    RSG lights and siren
    BMW 530d Saloon
    Operational Patrol Unit
    Woodway/Whelen lights and siren
    BMW X5 SUV
    Demonstrator traffic car/armed response vehicle
    RSG lights and siren
    Iveco Daily
    Prison van owned by HM Prison service (presumably)
    Unknown brand lights and siren
    BMW X5 SUV
    Unmarked (converted temporarily to marked) operational patrol unit (primarily used as armed response vehicle)
    Woodway/Whelen lights and siren

    I recall that when they switched from the Fiesta to Vauxhall Vectra, when I was working with Cumbria police in the early 2000s, they had an unmarked Vectra - complete with a single light bar and the word POLICE on the front doors. It was a strange sight, seeing it flying about.

    Ah I saw this convoy on 5th May this year coming from South Worcestershire, Evesham direction, thought that odd X5 with the stickers on the side looked familiar I got it on dash cam.

      Ah interesting, I presume the convoy is going to the prison near Pebworth (HMP Long Lartin). I think the X5 with those stickers is normally an unmarked vehicle but has been temporarily converted into a marked vehicle for the convoy for some reason

      @@blue.light.fazbear Thought i recognised those markings! West Mercia use those stickers on all their marked vehicles now - presume they can borrow them from a central resource as needed. It would be a Cat A from HMP Long Lartin to Worcester Crown Court, etc. (as this clip is). Interesting on the rural roads they stick one of the X5 escorts in right turn bays to prevent the Daily being rammed by a vehicle emerging from a side road.

    That's 1st I've seen with the magnetic police sign on the X5

    • @blue.light.fazbear
      @blue.light.fazbear  3 года назад +2

      Yes, I think the vehicle with that sign was originally an unmarked but they required a marked unit but didn’t have any available so they put a police sign on it and a small light bar on the top which probably was removed after the convoy.

      @@aquanick2001 The law says they only have to be in uniform, doesn't specify that they have to wear a high vis. Although, by Home Office or Force Guidelines, officers would be required to wear some form of high-vis when standing in a hazardous place with minimal protection, except when the situation fails to allow it. The first officer that got out of the vehicle was wearing a high vis and my guess is that they were planning on only having that one officer get out to direct traffic. But the officers in the vehicle decided it was best to direct traffic in multiple places due to the junction being very busy.

      @@EastSussex999 now, are you actually a plod, or just a geek that knows far too much about things they don’t need to.
      Now like I said before directing traffic without a hiviz on……did I say it was illegal or against regulations?
      No I didn’t, I’m not interested in regulation’s, I was just pointing out that it’s not sensible.

    • @EastSussex999
      @EastSussex999 2 года назад +5

      @@aquanick2001 They did it quite sensibly. You imply that I'm sad or something for knowing too much, but really you are the sad one for sitting behind a screen criticizing everyone else, posting unnecessary comments of just pure disrespect on RUclips videos designed to entertain people, ruining their entertainment. You obviously have nothing better to do than that so have a think, who would you rather be? Someone who "knows far too much" or somebody who is so run down in their own life that they have to try and spoil other peoples'. Show some appreciation and respect for a change because that's what people deserve.
      And, I'm neither. I'm actually a student doing a Level 3 Extended BTEC in Public/Protective Services, studying to be a police officer. So that is how I know about regulations and things, and funny enough they also teach us respect; something that you either lost somewhere down the line or just never had to begin with. Come back when you've grown up a bit.

      I’m not sure of names, but I believe they are the perpetrators of an incident that happened in Blackpole outside the retain park where a police car was shot at while trying to stop a vehicle, and they then subsequently crashed into 2 other cars. They are on trial for charges relating to illegal possession of firearms and for attempted murder.
