I recall when I was in the Met officers working with helicopters did not have conventional metal shoulder numbers and letters on their shoulders but embroidered in silver.. so they could not fly up and be sucked into the engines of the aircraft. Those of us not directly working with them had to be aware of ours when undertaking duties of facilitating a landing and take off as well. No idea if that has changed or if the helicoptors have changed in any way since then. it was a while ago.
Was at an outdoor function in BAOR once and somebody had the bright idea of letting a chopper land on a parking area which was full of loose dirt and gravel. A few Rodneys had dust in their G&Ts.
And we all lived happily ever after, that will only be true so long as we continue to have brave Women and Men who are willing to defend us, surely it's not too much to ask that our protectors are properly prepared with the best available kit and a wage that reflects our admiration, appreciation and just how important they are in maintaining our freedom and democracy. As a U.S. citizen it's hard to get used to unarmed police as the norm. Every cop I know carries 2 guns, extra ammo, and a knife. Most police vehicles have additional weapons: shotgun, rifle, less-lethal (bean bag shooter or a nerf-like missile designed to knock a target down without injury).
Living where I do, within 3 miles of main Training area of Salisbury Plain, I disagree, Training exercises are a regular occurrence! OK London is different, they don't usually have them when it might alarm the tourists, but it's a quiet tourist time at the moment, So?

No, they needed them to clear the Horse Guard's Parade for an Air Ambulance that needed somewhere to land. You can hear one of the Armed officers standing there mention it. Horse Guard's Parade is made up of a lot of tiny pieces of shingle and stones. If an Air Ambulance landed there without a large police cordon, it'd cause a lot of people some hurt.
I heard it was crazy khan admitting he is and will always be totally honest and tell the truth. Unfortunately we didn’t see the ambulance and men in white coats take him away. British police, on the whole, are unarmed. There are civilian police armed response units. The police at Horseguards are Ministry of Defence police who protect military establishments. Nothing to do with Metropolitan Police.

In Norway, police don't carry guns, but the weapons are available (pistols are locked in the patrol car, requires supervisor permission to use). Don't for a minute imagine that the population doesn't have access to guns, but it's mostly rifles and shotguns for hunting. A lot of our home guard reserves kept their AR's at home, but I don't know if they still do that. Legal ownership of guns requires a license and gun club membership, or for other reasons (subject to approval by police).

@@peterjackhandy am I correct in that your police, historically, are unarmed? Perhaps it’s the difference culturally. Policing seems to be very different between our countries. I’m not being critical, just trying to wrap my mind around the concept of unarmed police.
British police, on the whole, are unarmed. There are civilian police armed response units.
The police at Horseguards are Ministry of Defence police who protect military establishments. Nothing to do with Metropolitan Police.
@@skipdar4396 It works, but it's only found in a few European countries. In Norway, police don't carry guns, but the weapons are available (pistols are locked in the patrol car, requires supervisor permission to use). Don't for a minute imagine that the population doesn't have access to guns, but it's mostly rifles and shotguns for hunting. A lot of our home guard reserves kept their AR's at home, but I don't know if they still do that. Legal ownership of guns requires a license and gun club membership, or for other reasons (subject to approval by police).
