This is the exact combination of film, depression and memes I look for in a video.
I was going to comment something similar but realized this spoke exactly what I wanted to say. The memes are fire.
Add squarespace to the mix and you got yourself a new personality 😂
Couldn't have said it better myself!
This video caused me to start meth because large format is too expensive
Liar. You can have a set for less than 700€, a good set for less than a really good Pentax 67II set. It's not impossible.
@@caleidoo it's the film that's expensive with expensive lenses also being hard to look past.
As for affordable film though, you could always shoot B/W or even photographic paper if shooting landscapes.
@@vikmanphotography7984 RA4 paper could be reversed as well and color corrected by filters. But it is not that beautiful as a transparent negative or a positive. Like an artificial woman. Compared to no woman at all
@@NoviSavvy multigrade glossy paper, prefpash the paper to overcome the activation energy before you head out for the day (lowers contrast), and rate at ISO 5.
@@caleidoo but if you barely can afford a pentax and it makes sense to buy that first, you think twice about investing in lf
This feels like a fever dream in the best way possible.
You must have the most peaceful fever dreams lol
why not 8 minutes and 10 seconds, seems like a missed opportunity
he needs to reupload it
Honestly it probably was rendered at 8 minutes and 10 seconds. Ive had videos shortened from youtube compression. Idk how or why but its a thing
A missed opportunity for sure
I believe this to be a missed chance
Loved the Cameo! 😉Also, I can honestly say you very much encapsulated the experience of shooting 8x10 too. 👍
I like to think this is what the greats like Alec Soth and Joel Sternfeld think of when shooting 8x10.
Alec Soth, most overrated photographers of our time
@@user-ti9zc1xv2b to each their own. I love Alec's work.
B definitely not the most amazing images but I love his portraiture and I respect him for lugging around an 8x10 camera for years
No. No one feels like this. It’s the same as shooting other formats ...
Without a doubt, the best thing I've ever watched.
Brother
Slowly repeating to myself “I will not look at large format cameras on eBay, I will not look at large format cameras on RUclips, I will not”
But I gotta man, I just gotta.......lol
Do yourself a favour and start with 5x4
moofy I’m just gonna stick with my good ole tlr and retain my ability to pay rent for a lil while longer lmao
ExoScout honestly 5x4 isn’t that bad but everything for 10x8 is at least four times the price and four times as heavy.
ExoScout, as someone who has just made the jump, all that is correct. I just made my second exposure with my 8x10, and looking at the negative....all that cost stuff went out the window, and I can’t wait to get out to shoot with it again. The view on the ground glass is worth the price alone for me. The only bad thing, it’s not like running out the door with a medium format or 35mm, gotta make sure you got everything packed away, it sucks getting some where, start setting up and discover you left x at home...
Amazing to find out that you’re not actually Walmart Ryan Gosling, but rather Costco Terrance Malick
lmfao
Booo.... I was there and I still got chills... and a semi...
This makes my medium format into the LARGE format
Bro shot this like a documentary YES man
The monster glistening in the light was so beautiful it moved me to tears , nature is so amazing
“wtf is he looking at” 😂😂
That “click, black out” was brilliant. The whole video was brilliant.
Extract from my dissertation about this video: Jason's video journey into exploring the mysteries of large format photography reveals the fundamental irony that is the subtext of the genre. It seemingly inherently evokes a sense of mystical wonderment, capturing light in a way that is uncanny to our everyday sensibilities. Yet this spiritual journey undertaken by Jason must be mitigated through supremely physical means. The very thing that leads him on this spiritual sojourn is an increasing dependence on the crass materiality of the medium. This is seen in the moment of his spiritual escape, only to be dragged back to this mortal coil by the very thing that granted him release. This Cartesian duality feeds into the sense of the liminal unreality that hallmarks the video.
Sir, this a wendys.
Holy guacamoly this dude knows how to write
You didn't mention toilet water...lost opportunity I'm afraid 😨
Such a mind can perhaps interact with a physical body, but it does not exist in the body, nor even in the same physical plane as the body especially when such a body is a camera body and physical plane is the focal plane!!!
The only way this would have been better is if all that build up was for an out of focus picture.
this is it...the only film channel ill ever need
So silly and funny until that reveal of the photos at the end, then I was a bit overcome, I admit. Really beautiful portraits of your family.
Okay, I know this is a parody and I should post something sarcastic but I CRIED literal salt tears because from an outsiders perspective you have such a SUPPORTIVE partner whom allows you to photograph her and I know I'm supposed to recognize that I only see a small blip of your relationship but damn it hurts because I feel like my photography has been hard for past partners to see as my love language for them. I hope this gets lost amongst the witty comments but I just had to share. Thanks for creating the content you do.
i feel u man when u get someone who supports u it means the world
Finally, somebody makes a film about large format that gets to the emotional heart of the matter, bravo!
I appreciate the dedication it took to make this video. I was on the edge the whole time and stunned by the quality of the pic at the end. Thanks for doing this.
The final image actually made me say awww. Very funny, very sweet.
Jason, you have a very, very dear spot in my heart.
plot twist:
He forgot the lens cap on!
Bruh
But jokes aside, that won’t affect the film right? You can still reshoot it?
Ibraheem Talha yep, just take the cap off (and I’d take the film holder out and double check your focus and composition), reload the holder and take your shot!
Honestly, this is the single greatest video I’ve seen in my life
Honestly, this was a really entertaining video. Well done man and those photos came out beautifully.
You need to get your hands on a Kodak Aero 178mm f2.5 lens.
You'll need to pair it with a camera with internal shutter though like a graphlex.
If someone can loan him one, please do.
This was beautiful, I laughed my a** off. Yours is by far my favourite photography channel, it's just a perfect mix of humor and film.
Kudos to your ever-so-patient models. They had to suffer for your art. The results validate their misery. Great work!
Beautiful. Awesome.
"Kodak Colour Plus 200" 😂😂
8x10 is awesome! Be careful it can hook you up fast.
its already got me
People who aren't regular viewers are gonna be confused. Great video. PLEASE, continue making ultra confusing content. I want to be confused more.
The look in her eyes is the realisation that any idea of ever buying a house just got flushed down the drain.
I honestly love this documentary and definitely want more of this ❤️
This is way moodier than i expected, i love it.
It’s content like this that makes it one of my favorite RUclips channels, this is sick dude!
Bro, you had me dying with this video. It's fantastic, thank you for putting out quality work my man.
Jokes aside, the images are incredible I almost teared up, beauty of it hit me, I been shooting 35mm for a few months but now Im seriously considering going for medium format, and maybe one day large.
I've been shooting 35mm and I'm buying a 6x6 on Monday! Do it!
Timothy Engelstad im researching cameras and prices 😁😁
There's nothing wrong with 35mm either. After all, your favourite movies were likely shot on 35mm film. Maybe even 70mm film. Yes, medium and large format films will give you much higher resolution.
All hail the Ben-Zilla! Music choice and voice is very appropriate Horne worship.
This is the best life documentary video ive ever seen! So beautiful and extravagant! Keep up with this Large onE!
Epic, man. Seriously some of your best work!
Literally every vid over the past like 3 weeks has been what I was looking into and I’m in love
You are the hero we need in these dark times. Thank you fam.
This will be fun. Looking forward to it!
Jason, hat off man. Very cool. Loved the photos, extra points for the story you strung into this.
Fun video. My parent's house is just up the street where I built my 4X5 view camera in my dad's machine shop (college days). That park is where my buddy Greg and I invented Frisbee golf back in 1972. We never got any credit for it though.
All the feels...large format photography gets me every time
the "taking a mug out of a cupboard" slow-mo at 0:55 reminds me so much of Joel Haver 😂
The "lose yourself" rhymes were not expected!! Man, you're my idol!!
Jason... this was epic🙌😆.. the photos were insane but the Oscar like performance was priceless!! Never disappoint!🤙🏼
Reminded me of Apocalypse Now. The voiceover, the opening bedroom scene, the toilet water. Man, I loved Apocalypse Now.
This is sooo good! “Tf is he looking at” 🤣
By far the funniest video I believe you've made LOL 😆
Always entertaining,
Well done!!!
Your channel is pure gold! Please never change.
This was a great watch while eating breakfast to start my day 😂
That was golf like commentary with sarcasm, and I'm here for it.
I think I just watched the last 8x10 video that ever needs to be watched! 😂😂😂
I've seen this video before, but it appeared in my feed again, so I watched again... and now I realise what a piece of videography and storytelling genius it is. Love your channel Jason
Welcome to the club! Looking forward to your next episode 👍
"Just like the faint gust of wind...." Thanks for that laugh...it's been a hard week, and I needed that (the laugh, not the log dump). Great work from two of my favorite creators.
This is pure gold!
Absolutely awesome! ;)
dude this is brilliant makes me want a large format now
Favorite youtuber ever!!!!! ❤️
Nor the tears or zoodles could be stopped from pouring out of me. This was beauty beyond compare.
We want more! Exciting!
Awesome. I love shooting 8x10 ... I'm trying to hold off because I know I'll actually go broke buying that film.
Well done! There are few things more amazing than poring over an 8x10 negative.
Wow. This was brilliant man. Just so good.
This is amazing!!! 😆
Absolutely brilliant
the intro is hilarious... love love your content and images !
Brilliant dude!
The look on Monica and Baxter’s faces says it all ;-)
dude your videos are getting better and better , cheers
Hahaha, Man you almost me in tears from laughing so hard with that intro. Fcking classic!
Man I was laughing my ass off at this, did not expect that at all. Love it
Simply amazing video dude!
Beautiful work Jason! I hope you like what you’re doing and get crazy successful with the channel.
Bro, this video is a masterpiece.
This is by far the best video you have ever made
this is stunning !
BEAUTIFUL!!
genuinely incredible work with a healthy dose of comedic value 💛✌️
loved the photo and the size & resolution is insane
You can’t see me but know that I’m standing and clapping. Slowly of course. Well done.
Jason that was epic, and photo look magic
Damn this was hilarious, suspenseful, and then inspiring, another banger of a video 😅 Caleb did a great job with the filming too 👏🏼
Seriously though, that 8x10 experience made me feel broke just watching...
That was awesome!!!
I really liked the blackout idea :). Nicely done :)
I swear, you are the best thing to ever happen to RUclips!
Greatest vid ever!
Amazing documentary :D :D
Best Video I have seen in ages! :D
Literal perfection in a video. 8x10 sounds like a dream
Jason, I have to admit that I love your videos, but this is the only one I have watched twice. Good stuff brother!
That was one of the best narrated videos I’ve ever watched
First Exposure . . . Exciting!
