- Purchased this motor from Ben Dittmar after he got it from Marv at Tomahawk. Very happy to have been able to buy this one. It turned out a great runner and these motors don't show up very often. A points cleaning, a lot of struggles with dropping the gearcase, and an impeller plate later and it is a very nice runner.

Yes, definitely. I found it a little odd that three motors of the same lineage run on the same boat on the same day and the strongest one was the one with the lowest HP rating. 🤔

Ser. I have been rebuilding a 1958 elgen 12HP the hard way,,no books or diagrams .is it possible to get the carb. setting please..working on fule pump now LOL
On these motors I usually start with both needles one full turn out from lightly seated and adjust from there. The high speed should always be dialed in first. The low speed should follow after the engine is fully warmed up and the high speed has been adjusted to its optimal setting while being run at full throttle with the load of pushing a boat. They're great little motors. One of my favorite non-OMC outboards. Thanks for watching!

One of those in Running Condition would fetch about how much do you think 🤔? A gentleman here in Northern Ohio is selling one on Facebook and he said it was his grandfather's and only ran it ONCE as he almost flipped his boat Anyway he's asking $650 I think he's half way to far over that asking price He said it's a 1970's outboard as it has a 1977 Ohio Sticker I told him those were made from 1962-64 by West Bend and was Branded COMMODORE (Great Video By The Way " Jhonny Rude " !!! )
First, I would say there is a significant difference between "running condition" and "excellent condition". Running condition and average cosmetic condition would bring less than one in running condition and near mint cosmetic condition. If thus one has only actually been used once it has VERY low hours. Cosmetic condition would depend on how and where it was stored all those years. I'd would agree that for one of these motors $650 is a lot. That said, if it is is near mint condition cosmetically, to the right person I could see the asking price as in the ballpark. As a regular runner, while these are nice motors, the parts availability is not that good so maybe not the best choice, especially for the average person that is just using the motor to go fishing. In the case of this motor, it's value is going to be completely dependent upon what someone is willing to pay and why that person wants to motor. I would love to have a motor like this is pristine original cosmetic condition, but I'm not accustomed to paying big prices for most of my motors either. I didn't accumulate so many outboards by paying high prices for them. If it was the 18hp in pristine cosmetic condition, I'd be much more likely to pay up for one of those. Thanks for watching!

Which fasteners are you needing torque specs for. I may have to look them up.
